This is one of the best interviews I’ve heard, tip of the hat to the interviewer for letting Norm roll, and keeping the conversation flowing. Glorious!
It’s Ron Bennington from the best radio show ever Ron & Fez. If you’re a fan of Norm you’d love Ron and his take on comedy, which is similar to Norm’s in the way of them both being masters of timing.
Most genuine people you don’t hear from, because they go about their life and take care of their family and friends. Majority of public persona people are in it for themselves so are not very genuine
5 big cheers for the moth joke. I would love to pass the joke on to others, but no one else can deliver the twists and turns that Norm MacDonald did. Haven't seen it? It's on Conan's show, on RUclips.
Right around 39:49 Norm talks about his hope to score Jay Leno for the second season. So sad to hear him muse on a follow up season that would never be. It would have been so good.
@@bubbyberry I know. But he's talking about Norm MacDonald Has a Show, on Netflix, which ended up no being renewed because of the Louis/retard kerfuffle. Damned shame.
What an absolutely extraordinary human being! Great interview, very interesting and more insightful perhaps into the “real” Norm (for lack of a better word)
29:00 Remember, standup is not an art. So when you watch the joe rogan episode where he’s talking to comedian Jimmy Carr and it gets to the point where they discuss creating classes to “teach” people “how to do” standup”, understand that that would be a disservice to comedy as a whole. Like norm said, you’re either funny or you’re not. If joe and jimmy decide to push the agenda of creating classes to “teach” people standup, it will basically allow people who should not be on a stage doing standup, to be on a stage “doing standup”. & by doing that you diminish the quality of comedy over time
And seeing Joe rogan say that on his podcast, proves to me that he was NEVER a comedian and he Never deserved those Netflix specials. Because really, when you just look at him, he’s not telling jokes. He’s just saying commentary in a way that makes him look like he’s enlightening your mind. That’s not what a standup comedian is about

Only 5 minutes in and thinking about turning the channel. Norm seems tired and guarded and like he doesn't want to be there. Hoping it gets better because he's a very talented comic
After I wept off and on for some time, inconsolable, the thought occurred to me; Was THIS (what I believed) to be the latest attempt at cancelling a comedian, what pushed Norm into a depressed stated and possibly accidental overdose? Rob Schneider said he saw evidence in "Norm's sink of...uhh, things he was up to..." Shortly before his death. Norm was a gentle spirit. He was speaking up for two friends who he felt had been unfairly marked by the METOO psychopaths. Norm's standing up for Louie and Roseanne, I think, made Norm a target himself. And I feel, purely my own feelings, that Norm saw the METOO tornado starting to slowly swirl, and if they're going after what is my sacrament, then I really don't have the PUSH to wage a fight where there should be NONE. I think Norm just decided it was enough. I don't know if his body gave out or not. But I do know I hear a man who doesn't sound on death's door. But, I do hear a depressed man, and as sick as Norm was, no telling what effect this had on his fragile system. To whatever is left of METOO: You need to END this little party you've been having. You aimed your filthy sights on Norm because he DEFENDED two DEAR friends who he thought were not being treated fairly. I'll end with something he said on The View (or something like them) "When you take a person's ability to earn a living, it's like taking that person's life."
