I’ve listened to a bunch of these now and even when Norm does some of the same material in his sets he tells it a little differently each time and it doesn’t get old.
In norms last special, Nothing Special, Dave Letterman asks if he had ever done that material before, and I was thinking Yes! Don't you ever go on the RUclipsr? Somebody get Dave a computer and get him on the ww . RUclips .whatever
He had the most oblique sense of humor, no boundaries and no ego. He was brilliant but abided by his theory that Imany comedians try to come off smarter as the audience. He could find humor in some of the most mundane subjects and drive you into hysterious laughter.
this is one of my favorite sets he ever did & it takes on way more meaning now, more than ever. I’ve thought about how much I/I’ll miss his genius comedy every day since he’s left us/me
“I don’t remember Norm having three eyeballs. But I guess none of us really knew him.” This line falls flat in most of the recordings I’ve heard. So underrated, I think it’s genius.
It's one of my favorite lines. I often find, even when the audience doesn't pick it up....well, Norm said that an audience not finding a routine funny, was funny. And I've come to find a lot of joy in that idea.
I have a theory that is completely unproven but it might have merit. If bubbyberry was Norm's opening act, then there is a good chance he is Stephen Fromstein. Anyway, we'll done recording and collecting all of these bootlegs. I love the way Norm makes all these variations in his performances. New Year's Eve is coming up and I'm still fascinated. What a collection!
Norm mentioned Matlock A LOT. Whenever he needed a TV show to throw into a joke it was always Matlock. I can probably find 20 instances of Norm talking/joking about Matlock.
@@bubbyberry Hi bubby. I used to gloss over these bootlegs but they are really the best of Norm, especially when you compare them to each other. You see how he mixes things up all the time. It remubds me of how i used to listen to Bill Cosby albums in the 60s as a boy. They never got old, like a favorite movie, or tv series like Star Trek or F Troop. But when you become an adult, an older adult, you don't listen to things over and over. But here are these recordings you are presenting, and i know the routines but i still keep coming back. I can't really explain why, other than Norm MacDonald, a guy who was cut down before his time, had something, a soul.
The beginning of this show, where he is talking about Tony. Brings back memories of when he worked with Tony at the old spaghetti restaurant. See I was Tony's brother. We were tight since he made that call...RIP professor.
I love his comedy style .it’s so relaxed it’ll catch you by surprise when he says something insane for a punch line lol . Comics like Kevin heart are annoying every joke he has includes screaming and laughing at his own screaming joke
Not to get too deep but In hindsight, so much of his material the last few years was him working things out with own mortality…and wondering what Seth Meyers would do.
