I have the questioner shuffle the cards otherwise I feel like my own intentions override theirs while asking the question. Thoughts on this?

Hi John, I'm not clear about the yes/no 3 card spread at the end of the video. I don't understand yes, "no no", no. Apart from being reversed, why is the 2nd card equal to 2x no's? I really hope my question makes sense. Thank you.

It's just the way it's set up. Upright means Yes; upside down means No; but the one in the middle counts for 2 Yeses or 2 Nos - and this is so we can get an answer that is neither Yes nor No, but Maybe. One way to think about it is that the Tarot wants to give an accurate answer - and some situations don't work out with a clear Yes or No. Counting 2 for the middle card means we can get an even number, so it's a Maybe.

8:00 Why you don’t do side to side?
I've read that you should open side to side (because otherwise the meaning go opposite).
    I wonder which is correct.
Could you tell me the ground to do upside down?

Honestly either way is fine. The most important thing is that you stay consistent

John Ballantrae's way to pick cards is not the correct way, and this video-title is quite petulant. The correct way to shuffle, pick, turn and place the cards is your own way. Find your own way by experimenting, and a particular way will become natural to you. That is your correct way. And don't ever tell anyone that their way is incorrect, if it works fine for them anyway. As long as the way is consistent, do whatever you like. 🤘

the 7 of swords in the reversed sense, is it a positive card? The 2 book I've always used to study is by Kim Huggins and the johannes Fiebig and Evelin burger books... The meanings here are in the reversed sense are...reliability, and another meaning, not paying close enough attention and having doubt, but yet it's also got being clear about one's own role/or task at hand...Kinda interchanges with the two swords in the back meaning you have doubt, but yet the group of people to left within the back under the cloud on left meaning clear about your role, so this has confused me in that card meaning...So sometimes that's why i don't like going by the books because one meaning of the picture is the opposite of another picture in the style of reversed meaning 2 completely different meanings...So how can you be clear and yet have doubt? that's what im looking for...Trying to make it as simple as possibly...

Have you solved your riddle yet?
I had the same riddle as you. So I decided to stray away from RWS Tarot (with its confusing system of some cards being positive and others negative, even if upright), and move towards TdM - Tarot de Marseille, where I myself gave all the upright cards positive meanings (following numerology), and their negative polarity in their reverse. Problem solved. Of course I had to mark all cards in the TdM deck so I would know when they are reversed, for they are symmetrical.

Do you recommend doing a Celtic Cross and then moving on to the person's specific questions?

I wanted to show a variety of spreads with ways of picking cards for each of them. With a Celtic Cross, I normally shuffle and then lay cards from the top of the deck. You can do this for any spread, but nowadays for three-card spreads, I spread the whole deck face-down and pick three cards at random, then turn them over. I do a quick shuffle between questions so I kind of have a fresh deck for a new question. I just happened to begin with a Celtic Cross. I'm not sure if this answers your question, so ask again if you wish.

Do you ever straighten out your deck..making all cards upright and in order, or refresh the deck in any other manner?

Have you memorized each card for yes or no? Or how do you go about that? I found a list I use for reference, but I don't like to refer to it all the time. I do understand that reversed are always a no, do you have any additional info on that or advice? Please and thank you
