  • Reversed cards are an on-going difficulty for many people so let's become comfortable with them and see how they add to a reading, giving more information. We'll see too that it's not difficult to use them.

    I have benefitted sooo much from learning from John. Love his approach and has taken me to a place where i am confident that appropriate interpritations can be given in any situation for any question, whilst at the same time, enabling the sitter to relate to what is being said, without being afraid. I had the 10 of swords, in the final position the other day, but it was fine. I also agree regarding reverse cards. Making use of rhem in a reading brings a depth of information/knowing, that would be otherwise lost. Look 4ward to joining your membership site John. Cheers

    I find them invaluably useful; shading and tonality, and flagging up any red zones.

    Well, i recently purchased the wild unknown tarot, which is a fantastic deck by the way, and it actually says there are purposely no reversal meanings for the cards, as the creator of the deck feels that the upright meanings, and endless combinations of the cards, doesn't merit a reversal meaning. So.... There are some cards out there that do not have reversal meanings, and there is no need for them.

    • @johnballantrae001

      Dear Anthony: I know it's quite popular to ignore reversed cards, and that card combinations can be revealing. I still wonder how you read that there will be a delay or a glitch from combinations of cards. Delays happen in life; with a reversed card, it can be easy to see it and incorporate that possibility into the reading - and a questioner with no experience of the Tarot can see the sense of it and appreciate it.

      Right. In addition, it is just not needed. You literally can shuffle your deck to the point where more than 85% of your deck is reversed. Lol. How well can you read like that?

    Reversed cards mean simple that you especially need to focus upon the issue connected to that particular card. It could also mean that the energy around that particular card's meaning is beginning lessen! That's from Angel Lady Doreen Virtue and it is true . Take that way and you will have less headache! So actually there is no any reverse or something negative about the card as you may think but rather that you need to pay more attention to that situation!

    • @jacob777jacob
      @jacob777jacob 4 года назад +3

      Lol. You do realize you can shuffle your deck and more than 85% of the deck if reversed? That's not a good "interpretation". Also, who cares about what Doreen Virture says, she's a Christian now and said to throw out her cards as well, bad energy.

    Good stuff... Personally I don't use reverse cards unless one pops out and hits the table while shuffling... Sometime I allow a few to become reversed over time before I do a cleansing ritual to bring them all back into order which includes a few days of fasting and magick. The method I subscibe to more is the HOTGD dignified and ill-dignified according to the elements...

    John, thank you for a lovely discussion and class again. I was wondering if you would make a video/class about a love reading. Like my daughter wants to know who, where, how, when .. with "the one." Is there some help with actually getting an answer for those type of questions when the page of swords doesn't swoop in to make an appearance?
    Please advise! Thank you again

    In your 2 of Cups example, the same interpretation about one member of a couple against the idea could also be shown by 2 of Cups upright, and 2 of Swords as the next card? Or any of the 2's could suggest a conflict with a couple involved in the question. With the cards all upright I think the cards can still show the problems by the card combinations.
    Plus I do not like the look of upside down cards in a spread and I don't think clients like it either.

    • @egee273
      @egee273 2 года назад +1

      Who cares what the clients want? You do because they are paying or friends, but would you really want to know the truth or a sugarcoated version of it. I am a person who would rather hear the truth, because to make choices based on anything else, is asking for it. As for how it looks, if a client doesn't get the value of having a reverse card and they are enjoying the aesthetics of it, then ask yourself if they are really valuing the tarot or are they doing it for novelty or entertainment value, or even worse avoiding making real decisions in their life by asking someone else. Advice is as good as the advisor, in this case for them, who cares?

    • @egee273
      @egee273 2 года назад

      I hope I didn't give the impression of who cares about your issue here. I'm saying that preferences of clients and catering to them are like the mafia coming in and saying "you are gonna give us a good reading", only wanting to hear what they want to hear. In that case telling them a lie and having them come back because it didn't go their way could put you in danger. Now by using that example or in any case, this could be so.

    We should cast aside traditional and age old card meanings at our peril. For by doing so the whole Tarot scene will descend into an intellectually void hobby telling nothing but 'dream world fairy tales' lacking in cohesion and evidence. The 10 of Swords traditionally touches upon "ruin, betrayal, feelings of loss or worthlessness, or feeling cold and unloved." A low point in any body's fortune. INVERTED, it's meaning is straightforward, "A troubled period of life with all the negativity of the upright card which will go on for a while." I could discuss with a querent all the open routes and subsequent improvements in positivity etc without once having to 'invent' some extra meaning of the card for our own benefit. The Tarot tells simple, 'bare boned truths' from which discussions and solutions can and should be discussed, often with difficulty and sadness. We are indeed on a downward spiral if we start believing our own pseudo intellectual fairy tales of cosmic enlightenment and higher self protocols at the expense of hard hitting truths in a language we can all understand. Perhaps we feel our complex astral jargon sufficiently cloaks what we 'read' so nothing so cloudy or fuzzy headed can ever be proved or disproved

      Dear Philip: I read your comment, but I'm not sure if you are agreeing with me or if you are you are saying I should stick with the old meanings? If you can tell me that, I can reply to your comment. Yours, John Ballantrae

    • @philipslater4142
      @philipslater4142 9 лет назад +1

      John, I believe the Tarot is at it's best when it carries a predominant load of 'the old' meanings which can be brought into modernity by dipping into modernity. I would never be so insulting as to suggest I am right, it's just my view. I generally think modernity and Tarot are not comfortable bed mates and the views of anyone else have equal rights to be stated, even thought they will be wrong!!! (Joking of course)
      Thanks for your replies

      Philip Slater This is why I love the Tarot Philip. I have had the pleasure of seeing amazing readers who use a range of disciplines, ranging from purely traditional to purely intuitive in action. I also know a woman who reads ordinary playing cards with unerring accuracy - which is just pure witchcraft to me!! : )
      I've come to learn that there is no single 'right' way - whatever works best for you is the 'right' way. Dan Inosanto, a well respected martial artist and student of Bruce Lee, wrote a book many years ago called 'Absorb What is Useful'. I apply the same principle to my Tarot journey.

    • @corriecrazy

      Philip Slater: I share your views in this matter. The Tarot cards were created many, many years ago. To me, it seems odd and inappropriate to try to modernize or update the meanings. Life is life and people are people. Neither have really changed all that much over the centuries. Our problems are basically the same, as are our emotions and our ways of thinking. Only the "stage settings" have changed. Surely we have the mental and spiritual capacity to be able to adapt to whatever conditions the world throws at us. BTW, I'm writing this response on May 11, 2020, smack-dab in the middle of the COVID-19 world-wide pandemic, and guess what? We're already beginning to adapt (at least, after a fashion). I'm sure the adaptation will soon be adequate enough for us to continue on and survive in the changed world. I'll bet, too, that the same Tarot card meanings that worked 100 years ago will still be applicable. Stay safe. Godspeed.
