  • Could the Junghans Max Bill Automatic or Mega Solar affordable dress watch? I took it for a very thorough review with my own experiences.
    I was wearing my Junghans Max Bill in a previous video. And one very observant viewer saw this. He asked me, can you review that watch someday? Well, of course!
    Not a lot of watches can say they’re part of the permanent collection of the Museum of Modern Art in New York. The Junghans Max Bill is over 60 years old and a real design icon of Bauhaus thinking. But is it any good as a watch? See and judge!
    The Max Bill collection consists of an automatic, an handwound and even a solar powered edition, which I also review in this video.
    And to start of, a few FAQs answered:
    Is Junghans Max Bill a dress watch?
    Yes, it definitely is. This watch still embodies an humble attitude. For me it has become the antidote to big, money screaming designs.
    How much is this Junghans watch?
    The price is 850 EUR
    What movement does Junghans use?
    ETA cal. 2824
    What is the case material and size?
    Steel, 38mm
    TIP: see my visit to the Junghans Factory in Germany: • SPECIAL: 160 years of ...
    Editor's note:
    The latest Max Bill models (all versions from 2020) may be backfitted to a domed sapphire-crystal glass and vice versa.

    I wish someone would compare the plexiglass crystal next to the sapphire so we could see the difference. Does one give a different look to the dial then the other.

    • @WatchTheFreshFaces
      @WatchTheFreshFaces  2 года назад +4

      Good question. I honestly stick to the plexi. Yes, it is more vulnerable, but it is also the real thing. In terms of looks, it’s not much difference. Given the fact that you can get a sapphire now at the same costs, it all comes down to this: do you want it more durable or the real thing?

      @@ibnunadzir223plexi can be easely scratched but can be polished.
      Sapphire is hard to be scratched although there are materials that can scratch it, it can shatter and is hard to polish.
      I prefer hesalite as it gives a vintage look as well as I prefer manuals as opposed to automatics.

      @@fpostolache Junghans has their own special coating for the plexi crystal. It makes them more resistant to light scratches but also means if they are scratched, you can't polish the crystal without ruining the coating. It makes them less maintainable than normal plastic crystals. If scratched they have to be replaced.

    • @WatchTheFreshFaces
      @WatchTheFreshFaces  3 года назад +3

      That love is well spent ;) I must say I've never experienced any trouble with the water resistance. For everyday use, including occasionally going to to beach or even swimming in the Amsterdam Canals (yes, we actually do that here) it has never had any condensation.
      I honestly don't think they will make a 100m version of it, because of the case construction...
      I think comparable models from MeisterSinger or Nomos are also 5 bar...

    • @WatchTheFreshFaces
      @WatchTheFreshFaces  Год назад +1

      Now, that's a good one! Quite incidentally, I actually bought the 38mm for my girlfriend and I do think it fits her very well. She's not the tallest, so large watches don't fit her, but as the case shape is very sleek and elegant, it fits pretty much every setting. Having said that, 36 would be a great addition as well.

    My favorite watch in the world is the Ruri Blue Credor Eichi ll. Unfortunately, it's too rich for my blood. What's the alternative? A Rolex or, perhaps, a Patek? Nah, too showy and expected. The Junghans Max Bill 27/4002.46 is far more discreet. It's a watch where "form follows function" meets severe elegance. In fact, the Junghans Max Bill is so severe that, when wearing it, you'll iron your underwear.

    • @WatchTheFreshFaces
      @WatchTheFreshFaces  2 года назад +1

      Oooh yes the Credor Eichi is ab-so-lu-te-ly stunning!! I really love it, except for the actual name Credor... Anyhow, its too expensive for me as well so that name is not a daily issue for me 😉

    • @davidhunternyc1
      @davidhunternyc1 2 года назад

      @@WatchTheFreshFaces It would be great if you reviewed the Credor Eichi ll on your show. The reviews I've seen focus on the face but it would be great if someone focused on the movement too. What makes the movement special? I agree with you about the name. "Credor" sounds like toilet bowl cleaner. I keep thinking they could spell it "Cred'or" but that would be fake, like Haagen Dazs. Instead, I think Credor should re-brand their name into something purely and unapologetically Japanese.

    I owned two Junghans automatic dress wristwatches. It is a well-designed wristwatch. One is gaining minutes and the other is losing minutes. When people reviewed this watch they never talked about how accurate the timekeeping of this watch was. It is the worst watch I have ever purchased. The timekeeping of both eyes was never accurate. I would not advise anyone to buy such an expensive wristwatch that is not accurate. The hand-wound version might be different in terms of timekeeping and accuracy. I am using this medium to tell the world that Junghans is producing a wristwatch that is not fit for purpose.
