Beauty. I’m just put off because there’s no second hand. You have to run the chrono to see any movement. Not sure if I appreciate that they went COMPLETELY all-in on maintaining that form on the dial yet
Great video. Thanks for the honest review. I just bought the watch and I am so confident i saw this video :) I very much agree. Junghans Max Bill is abt 95% design. I too have a very small wrist. I too worry abt the thinkness. The plexis is the BIG problem. The polished metal scratches easy i heard. What made mig buy it in the end was the sapphire option that you can get. I also went with black... waiting for delivery now, hope I love it cus I have been wanting it for 2 years
@@cdb5001 can't comment on Meister but really dig the Form A. The thinness makes a huge difference on my wrist. I choose Form A because the dial layout is bit more modern than Meister which has a bit of more classical look. The con of Form A is that the lug width is 21mm vs Meister which I think is more common 20mm.
@@slimwrist hey! Thanks for getting back to me. I love both, and right now on Joma the Form A is selling for a great deal. I'm debating them in my head. The Form A is sapphire, a more reasonable size and a very nice dial. The Meister is a gorgeous dial, beautiful case back and even thinner than the Form A. But acrylic crystal and more money. Oh man, can't decide!!!
I have the 100 year anniversary chronoscope with red accents and I totally understand your point. My wrist is 17 inch, and even for that size it takes a lot of space. Especially because it has a white dial. I personally don't mind that it's a loud movement, it's the nature of the beast. And I even learned to appreciate the 'golfball' effect on the wrist. But I had the same thoughts about the fact that it's more a beauty to look at than to wear. I'm not yet selling mine, though... It's still the perfect watch when I want some variation in my daily wear.
Im 6-6.25" and pit a deposit down on the new black faced Meister chronoscope with the yellow sub dial needles. I tried ghe leather strap version in the store and it was pushing it but ok i thought. Im hoping metal bracelet and dark face work. Coming from a 34mm max bill manual!
It is said the watch movement is loud because the 7750 caliber. The eta 7750 is used in a lot of watches. Does this mean every watch that uses the 7750 is so loud?
I believe so in majority of the cases. However the noise level is very subjective but I think you will find a consensus that you definitely hear the movement. on this eta
I actually think the oval shape actually hinders the balance. Might have been better with flat where weight can be distributed throughout a bit. For some this won't be an issue.
I actually think the watch looks fine size wise on your wrist. Especially the for the oversize watch guys. 40mm x 42mm lug to lug is just not overly big in my opinion. The lack of bezel makes the dial appear bigger optically. Also agree the 14.4mm thickness is a bit much but it’s a big thick chronograph movement so the case is going to be thicker. Sometimes a watch just doesn’t work out and you have to move it along. I actually picked one of these up after watching your video. 7” wrist and it fits me just fine. Your right, people both watch nuts and regular seem to really respond positively to the Junghans MB Chronoscopes minimalist retro 50’s Space-age look
You could bring more of the strap into view to make your watch look more balanced. Try loosening the strap by one hole to achieve this, but keep in mind that the watch's weight might cause it to shift (slight shift is ok). Alternatively, consider replacing the strap with a nylon or padded leather one, which could help showcase the strap's curves better.
Got the Meister. I have a 7.75 wrist. Wears small on my wrist. But my reason for letting mine go is the sound of the rotor. Drives me crazy that it's so loud. Makes the watch seem cheap. Complete turn off. Sold after only one wear. Wish I would have seen this video before my purchase.
I bought the Junghans Form A. I don't think it replaces the max bill but for me it suits me perfectly. If you want you can checkout my video of it ruclips.net/video/uT4x4rkTT5o/видео.html
I love my limited edition with black case and sapphire and red hands. But my wrist is 7.25" I find your watch looking pretty nice on your wrist too though.
This is why you should always try a watch on before buying it if you can. But sometimes it just doesn't start being uncomfortable until you've worn it for a while.
The second part is the issue. Some watches feel good when you originally put it on. Also looking at yourself in the mirror with a dish around you wrist also gets old after a while.
Although I like this watch a lot, one of the reasons I have not bought it yet, is it's size. You mentioned thickness in this video, but diameter is also a discouraging factor for me. As I prefer below 36mm and thin watches. The other thing that has stopped me from buying it until now, is it not having any seconds hand. Junghans has a 34mm hand winding Max bill which looks nice. However that does not have Chronometer.
@@a000ab last I looked, the ‘63 was offered in three sizes, 38,40&42. Sinn, you got me curious and from what I could find, they’d smallest offering looked to be 38.5mm. Someone’s blog entry came up with a photo of one of their chronos, the text underneath referenced a 34mm case. That was misleading as the entry mentioned several Sinn watches and the 34mm in question was a woman’s watch. Not too many chronos out there under 40mm. I one issue might be the height of the movement. Even if you got the case diameter under control, the height of the case would likely appear a bit odd. The OP in this review complains about the height, it’s actually not that tall compared to typical contemporary chronos. Hanhart, they’ve had a limited edition of their 417es in about a 38-39mm. There’s a Dutch startup reviving Airain’s take on the Type XX. They are doing the same for the Lebois name. All there chronos are around 38mm. Not chronos, but Stowa has a nice Bauhaus the Antea with a small second hand at 35.5. Tudor offers some of their designs down to about 28mm, but not a chrono. It is refreshing to see more fine makers offering smaller sizes. I can wear a 44mm case, but a case size between 38-40, as an aesthetic object, that’s a sweet spot for me. Hopefully the trend continues. If you have a link to the 34mm chronos you mentioned, post them here I’d be interested to see them.
I have a similar (but somewhat different) Telemeter Chronograph black dial. The thickness on that one is not an issue since it has a modular chronograph movement (eta 2892 base). I love the dial, see-through caseback but it also doesn’t fit well. Even though its 41mm, lug to lug is basically the same as diameter of the watch, so it wears very small on my 7.25 wrist.
Agree with your assessment and thoughtful critique of this watch. I have the same size wrist as you. The watch is too thick. Period. If thin, it would be a keeper.
I have not. Have form a though and it fits perfectly. However form a much like max bill has a face that is mostly dial so it appears much larger than a 40 on your wrist (I think it is 39 actually).
That looks like an old fashioned pocket watch that has been strapped to the wrist. I have just put my Japanese automatic upto my ear and cannot hear anything.
what type of snarky comments do you get about the brew watch? can you elaborate, im a big fan of the brew and its how i stumbled on your channel, as im thinking of buying one.
It was for the teal retrograph that I got comments because it was so out there (no longer available on the site), I loved it but it was too big for my wrist. retromatic no one even cared, but i flipped that one as well because butterfly clasp never sized correctly on my 6.5 wrist.
That’s because the large chrono size isn’t really a dress watch. Let alone for your wrist size. I have a 6” wrist and would kill for a Max Bill 34. Particularly with their incredibly short lugs, it’s the optimal size for dress watch for anyone 6.5” or less. Get the 34mm version and thank me later.
I could not disagree with you. It’s a very alluring watch but should be avoided on a smaller wrist. You would think it would suit one fine at 40mm but that is all dial face.
Many of their watches do sit up on the wrist like it’s on a stand. Personally I like how it stands up. Great looking watch, is clunky and loud, but you’re the one that has to enjoy it. If you don’t, definitely part ways. Just a part of being in this hobby.
I think if you actually had a space-ship on the back of your wrist it would feel a lot worse. 🤣 Are you going to replace it with another Junghans that's thinner?
@@slimwrist Nice thin one. I know what you mean about the Max Bill dial though. Of course the standard Max Bill Automatic is just 10.4mm thick so much thinner than the Chronoscope at 13.9mm. In due course I will have to acquire one!
As chronograph go, that’s not particularly tall. It’s probably quite tall compared to a typical three hand offering from them, but not for a chrono. I give them props for continuing to offer plexi crystals as well as a sapphire option. This would not be an everyday wear for me. The plexi is a huge part of the aesthetic.
