Informative: ✅ To the point: ✅ Great cinematography: ✅ You aced this video! Keep up the great work! 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼 Btw, for me personally, the Junghans Max Bill is the overall winner (since it’s the original Bauhaus watch). But kudos to Sternglas for making a well-done modern interpretation at an affordable price. 👍🏼
One of the best watch reviews I’ve ever seen. Maybe THE best, and I’ve seen thousands. The Bauhaus style watch is such a worthy subject for your talents. Awesome work, Max. Liked and subscribed.
The Sternglas Naos is my office beater since around 4-5 years. It is really a nice classic watch and fits perfectly to business or dress styles. The quality is good and the leather is very nice and soft. After probably over 500 days of wearing it, it has not a single visible scratch on the glas and only minor scratches on the body. Love it!
This is such a beautifully done presentation. I've watched this video over and over, as much as its informative it's deeply relaxing and peaceful. I hope your style is emulated by other filmmakers.
Wow…excellent video Max! Thanks for the history lesson. I’ve got a Tissot swissmatic that I picked up in Paris and I haven’t worn it in years as I got into much better quality automatic watches. Saw this vid and spent 20 minutes looking for that watch (found it), as I loved the simplicity of the design. I’d classify it under the Bauhaus design philosophy. Something I’d never heard of until two days ago. 🙄. Lastly, glad that sculpture park isn’t in So Cali as it unfortunately would be covered with graffiti. Cheers from LA.
Greatly appreciate the explanation of the motivations behind Bauhaus. I've recently gained a new appreciation of the design philosophy and enjoyed seeing it illustrated here.
My interest in Sternglas brought me to this video several months ago, and after several repeat viewings since, I've decided to instead save and purchase a Junghans Max Bill. The Naos certainly opened the door for the Bauhaus segment (which your video introduces and summarizes brilliantly) but once you've seen true refinement, it's hard to choose otherwise.
Max, today, I just purchased a Sternglas Bronze Edition 38mm in pvd bronze with a matt green dial...only 999 limited edition. I am lucky in that I managed to find it in Germany (sold out on Sternglas website)! This particular Bauhaus watch was difficult to find! Luckily I live in Italy:) I think I am going to love it!
Nice video. I order the new blue dial naos with the ronda quartz. It's thinner case seems more fitting for the Bauhaus movement. And it's much cheaper ;-)
I really appreciate the detail of this video. The comparison is detailed and unbiased. As far as the two brands are concerned, I can appreciate the more affordable Sternglas. It is a proper entry into the watch world for beginners. I am however thinking it could be dubbed as a homage piece to watches like Junghans and Nomos. The Junghans is beautiful and near flawless with the its build quality and deep rich Bauhaus history. The only flaw in my opion on the Junghans is that the earlier models have the plexi-glass cover. I know the later models have saphire crystal offering. So my verdict would be to save and purchase the more detailed refined Junghans
wow, amazing review ! great to finally watch a review with some design inspiration and history. Quality video! keep it up! one of the greatest reviews on RUclips for me. I wonder if today's max bill designed the watch on a quartz base movement with the spirit of Bauhaus ha?!
Thanks man for the video! I own a Max Bill too, and was looking at Sternglas the other day. I think it's a nice watch and it obviously is inspired by Junghans. In comparison with Junkers, Sternglas did not try to copy but rather went further and "modernised" the Bauhaus watch. However, I won't ever switch from my Max Bill to Sternglas or even to a super cool Nomos. Thanks again for your video! Well done, and looking forward to more content!
i just bought the Sternglas Naos 2 days ago, and i'll buy the Junghans because you can't say no to Bauhaus. a beautiful video and valuable info, really loved it, thank you so much!
I haven’t watched many videos about watches yet, but this one definitely has to be one of the best ones I watched. The mix of history, design, production and cinematography is just overwhelming for a “video about a watch”. Keep up the great work!
There is also a hand wound version of the Junghans. It’s bit smaller, but nice as a dress watch. Caliber ETA 2801-2 is inside. It’s around £600 at the moment. Prices seem to have gone up. Quite nice with a black dial. -While they did design sans serif typefaces at the Bauhaus, this one is reminiscent of a draughtsman’s writing on a technical drawing. The rounded stroke terminals are typical for the type of nib they used. Sans serif fonts as such appeared around 1806 and were the work of signpainters. These letters were later adopted by type designers and subsequently used in wood type printing on posters. They came in handy for that new thing called advertising.
Thanks for this informative and highly enjoyable video into the Bauhaus school of design.I have just purchased a Junghans Max Bill watch due in part to your presentation of the watch. I have been tangentially aware of Junghans for years but never fully investigated it until recently. I agree with you that it does reveal its charm to one slowly. Once it does it blossoms into a full blown love affair. At least in my case. Thanks again for your quality videos.
My favorite 2024 is the Prospex Limited Edition 1965 Recreation European Exclusive in Gradation Island Blue. The dial is stunning and the contrast when on a white strap is to die for. I will get my hands on one from MAMACOO
Excellent vid, subbed. I'm looking to buy a blue dial watch and Sternglas Naos Blue was going to be it. Then I saw the Lilienthal L1 all blue-is it any good? I am a watch collector that doesn't spend over $500 on a watch. Thank you very much.
I've been a fan of Bauhaus for many years which, like any art movement or style, has both beautiful and not-so-much applications. This includes fine art, architecture, and watches. The architexture is too stark for my taste, it lacks warmth or even much style. It's just concrete, steel and glass, nothing more. The fine art varies. Some, like Kandinsky, do it very well and create interesting, vibrant pieces while others I won't name, not-so-much. These watches are great examples of both sides. The Junghans, though basic, has some flair, particularly in the Arabic numerals, that makes it special. The Sterglas is an excellent example of not-so-much. It's too stark and just plain boring as Bauhaus can often be. If one can't afford the Max Bill, there are numerous other inexpensive Bauhaus watches far more interesting than the Sternglas.
Good video Max. Nice presentation, pleasant speaking voice. I appreciated and enjoyed the history of the Bauhaus movement / school. I already own a Junghans Max Bill, however, I see the value in the Sternglas.
I knew about Junghans but didn't know about this newer Sternglas -- glad I found this video. Great video with relevant and concise history lesson, looking forward to more of your videos!
These sternglas are made in china foshan province😂😂😂 you call them german none of them are made in germany san martin ,sternglas, alba, lorus all are made in china by foshan metals co. Ltd
On Chrono24 there are several dealers selling this watch with sapphire glass (for €900-€1000). Apparently Junghans offers a sapphire glass variant of this watch. It’s just that the plexiglass one is the one that’s shipped to retailers. The sapphire glass one needs to be custom-ordered from the Junghans factory.
Nice video. I'm obsessed with the Junghans' design and I'm trying to figure out if it's the right time to buy. It's such a beautiful, understated watch. (I'll enter! #strapme)
Hello Max. Really appreciate your channel. Thank you for making a video highlighting the Junghans Max Bill. I have at as a mechanical watch and it's truly beautiful. A real work horse.
damn i wouldnt have guessed you only had like 6k followers, im saying this cause the video is done to really good standard, its showing that you did your homework and took your time.
I really enjoyed this video. It was informative and intriguing. I’m currently on the hunt for a decent bauhaus on a budget. While the sternglas is on my radar, that Junghans MaxBill has my full attention at the moment. I subbed and am looking forward to your future videos.
Greetings from down under ! 🐨🐨. New subscriber here 😊. Thank you for such a polished presentation! I now have a better understanding of those watches. 😍
I love the design but cannot justify the price at all. It's a simple printed dial and a generic movement, how expensive can it be to produce!? How much is charged just for the Junghans brand and the design?
If you like Bauhaus design, you might have a look at Braun, too - they used to make anything from record players to electric toothbrushes and, yes, even watches, which are still available nowadays. In many aspects, Braun design is the legitimate heir of Bauhaus design and it's Braun where Apple copied their design.
Thanks for the history lesson - I learnt something new :) You're my new favourite watch channel. So glad I stumbled on it! But now I want a Max Bill, so yeah, there's that...
Thank you so much love you channel keep up the good work great great great story you even have the boys to the documentaries keep up the good work🙏🙏🙏🙏👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
Great video! Subscribed! For me, I would throw a third contender in this comparison, the Junghans Max Bill Quartz. At somewhere between $250-$500, you get much of the charm of the Max Bill (acrylic crystal, classic max bill dial, and case shape) with an even thinner case under 10mm. The Sternglas Naos definitely nails the bauhaus design, but it lacks what I appreciate the most from the Max Bill which is the beautiful acrylic domed crystal and the thin case. Love the comparison, thanks for sharing.
What an interesting, informative and intelligent video! So pleased I found your channel. I'm looking forward to seeing plenty more of your quality videos.
Loved the deep dive into the design background. Great history and well spoken. Nicely done. Definitely will sub. Love to see you go through these types of backgrounds on other watches.
Mmm, the Sternglas clearly looks like a cheaper watch. Maybe a NOMOS would be better for a comparison. In that case, I would still prefer the Max Bill model: it is the essence of the Bauhaus in a watch. Eine tolle Uhr. Thanks for the video!
Good video. I quite like Bauhaus designs but I couldn't justify the price of the Junghans. I jumped on the Naos automatik when they had the funding campaign and I couldn't be happier with my purchase.
keep the strap. got me the 100ys bauhaus junghans edition which they have done nearly right i guess. what makes me bonkers is, that on the regular no date max bill you can, mechanically, set the non existing date. sloppy. anyway, what a great watch. but if you study bill he may have objected to things like a date window.
This was such an interesting video, great job. I'm actually looking for a great dress watch cause I just started a new job and the Max Bill is on top of that list, the Polerouter is another option I was considering. What's your take on this? I think 38mm or 34mm both work fine so it's not a size issue either.

This watch feels a lot like something a doctor would wear

I've seen the Max Bill Auto with no numerals and no date. It is hard to consider another version now, especially the ones with date.
The Junghans is beautiful and has a lot of heritage, but that Sternglas is 👌👌👌
I have the quarz naos and feels so well made, it's a joy to wear it
Great watch for the price! Enjoy it 😁

Yeah I think Nomos did some extension from Bauhaus, but sternglas is more of a homage. Though their latest offerings are looking more interesting.
i just bought the Sternglas Naos 2 days ago, and i'll buy the Junghans because you can't say no to Bauhaus. a beautiful video and valuable info, really loved it, thank you so much!
Bauhaus is life ❤️
I haven’t watched many videos about watches yet, but this one definitely has to be one of the best ones I watched. The mix of history, design, production and cinematography is just overwhelming for a “video about a watch”. Keep up the great work!
Very well done video with a lot of interesting information. And it’s presented in a calm manner. Keep up the good work.
Thank you for the thoughtful comment!
Very nice show. I love it, especially because I'll have a Naos Yellow for Christmas. ;)
I’m german and didn’t know all that about Bauhaus. Well done! Also live in Seattle now 👍

Bauhaus translates to "house of building"
Love the channel bro. Clean video, straight to the point, no nonsense.

Thanks and welcome to the channel. I believe the Lilienthal is a quartz? I hate changing batteries so I prefer mechanical

This video actually inspired me to go out and purchase a max bill. Thank you for the lush and informative storytelling.
Awesome to hear Emilio, you are getting some history on your wrist!
Max Bill + Seiko Metronome Watch (If it can be found). Metronome has a plain surface like Sternglass. Not automatic but really cool metronome feature.
The day window is set to 3 to reflect it's position on the dial on the Junghans -- Really clever!
Keen eye 😉
Good video Max. Nice presentation, pleasant speaking voice. I appreciated and enjoyed the history of the Bauhaus movement / school. I already own a Junghans Max Bill, however, I see the value in the Sternglas.
Thanks Stephen! Yes, it's such a classic for a very reasonable price, I personally don't see the need to go budget further
Powerful and captivating simplicity … like Japanese ikebana…love it
I knew about Junghans but didn't know about this newer Sternglas -- glad I found this video. Great video with relevant and concise history lesson, looking forward to more of your videos!
Michael, thanks for your thoughtful comment! More deep dives into art and history coming up.
Great watches with a great coat! Would you reveal where that beautiful coat is from, you wear in the video?
I think that's a H&M I had tailored for a better fit
2:50 Fantastically synchronized!
Junghans chronoscope one of the most beautiful watches ever made in my opinion
I completely agree, it's a bit thick, but beautiful design 😍
Quality video and quite historic. Loved the content. Haven’t watch something about watch in this detail. Great job
Great video.

Retro watch yeah, I agree with you. Also, replacing the acrylic by a watchmaker costs only €40. So, I will do it (if I need to in the future).
I love love love that Junghans. I almost got enough money saved to buy one.
It's one of those watches that never gets old. Still stare at mine every time I put it on! Good luck with your search Eric.
Nice video. I'm obsessed with the Junghans' design and I'm trying to figure out if it's the right time to buy. It's such a beautiful, understated watch. (I'll enter! #strapme)
@@WatchCrunchOfficial thanks so much! I'll send you a message.
@@WatchCrunchOfficial hey, what's your insta? Edit: Nvm, found you! Message sent!
The Sternglas looks bland next to the Junghans
Yeah I ended up selling it, just didn't last for that exact reason.
Truly a great video, cheers.
really good content.
Awesome choice friend!

Last week I got Junghans Bauhaus and love it so far.

Welcome to the Channel Mate! Thanks for your comment, appreciate ya
Thanks !
Very nice video. Good historical context, good audio and content. Keep up the good work.
Excellent video! It was all I need to finally decide to buy the Max Bill.
i actually used to know the importer of junghans to the US market, he was a really nice guy and extremely knowledgeable. he sorta got me into watches
Brahms cello sonata in e in the video :)
Look at Wittgensteins house in Vienna. Breathtaking
Very good production. Love Bauhaus. Subscribed
Thanks Matt! And welcome to the channel
Only Junghans! Junghans forever!
Wow great video man...great way of giving this Bauhaus history while also reviewing two watches. Subscribed.
Much appreciated!
What a wonderful video. Thanks.
Glad you enjoyed it Kristian 👍
I love the design but cannot justify the price at all. It's a simple printed dial and a generic movement, how expensive can it be to produce!? How much is charged just for the Junghans brand and the design?
Hey Max how many channels do you have??
Where did you purchase the Max Bill from? I'm looking for that exact one but I'm not sure what website to purchase from
Nomos should have been mentioned.
Great videos, really enjoy them! Thank you for sharing
You're welcome my man, thanks for watching! 👍

Great video! Looking forward to the Max Bill Mega Solar release next month.
This is about the only watch that I would consider in quartz-solar. The modern tech is very appropriate.
Thanks for the history lesson - I learnt something new :) You're my new favourite watch channel. So glad I stumbled on it! But now I want a Max Bill, so yeah, there's that...
Thanks for the feedback! Really can't beat the Max Bill in terms of historical value for the money. Good luck on your search 😊
By chance, what is that peacoat you're wearing? I really like it!
It's a generic one, but I had it tailored. Fit is a lot more important than brand 👍
This is an absolutely brilliant video, absolutely fantastic work
Cheers! Really appreciate the feedback
Would be great to compare with stowa and nomos also👍
Yes! I have a nomos video in the works!

A thoroughly enjoyable well crafted video.
Thanks William, appreciate the feedback👍
Great narrative and story telling. Unlike other watch reviews!
Thank you! The Bauhaus story is a relevant one even today
nice work max!
The video is good but the music is too dramatic and kind of distracting from the content.
Top. Thank you.
Nicely done and well articulated!
Great production value. Surprised you don't have more subscribers! #strapme
such a nicely made documentary. this is not just a review of watches, this a celebration of bauhaus. thanks.
I really love the look of the Junghans. I'm going to buy one within the next couple of months.
You won't be disappointed Greg!
@@WatchCrunchOfficial Thanks. It's one of the most beautiful things I've ever seen. I've just inherited some money and I'm going to treat myself.
Thanks for video - hope you can keep up the standard.
Mmm, the Sternglas clearly looks like a cheaper watch. Maybe a NOMOS would be better for a comparison. In that case, I would still prefer the Max Bill model: it is the essence of the Bauhaus in a watch. Eine tolle Uhr. Thanks for the video!
Thanks Noel! Great minds think alike, Nomos video coming this weekend!
Good video. I quite like Bauhaus designs but I couldn't justify the price of the Junghans. I jumped on the Naos automatik when they had the funding campaign and I couldn't be happier with my purchase.
Good stuff. Yes the Naos is good value for money, but at some point if you get the chance, I would spend a little time with a Max Bill as well 👍
Really enjoying your thoughtful commentary. You, sir, are a talented writer & raconteur. Keep it up! Cheers ✨⏱✨
great video! Thanks for creating this
Great video. You are able to fully explain the history behind the watch. But I prefere the junghans obviously 😉
Nah - Sternglas looks flat ... no like.
keep the strap. got me the 100ys bauhaus junghans edition which they have done nearly right i guess. what makes me bonkers is, that on the regular no date max bill you can, mechanically, set the non existing date. sloppy. anyway, what a great watch. but if you study bill he may have objected to things like a date window.
Yeah, sometimes I wish Junghans can take a page out of NOMOS' playbook and develop an in house movement, but then the watch would be double the price.
I’m surprise you gravitated towards the 38 mm max bill. My opinion these were big I think you’d be more suited for a 34 mm
The lugs are so short, the 38 wears great 👍
This was such an interesting video, great job. I'm actually looking for a great dress watch cause I just started a new job and the Max Bill is on top of that list, the Polerouter is another option I was considering. What's your take on this? I think 38mm or 34mm both work fine so it's not a size issue either.
Sternglas uses Miyota 8x movements, right? Don't those have that stuttering second hand thing that they fixed with the 9x series of movements?
Hmm, I haven't noticed that, but I've overall been impressed with the 9000 series from miyota 👍
Great video man, just found your channel. New sub here brother!
Thanks! Watching yours, love your voice. Subbed 👍. You on Instagram?
