Bruce gave up flying the plane for the current tour because legally he is close to mandatory retirement as a commercial airline pilot. Once a commercial airline pilot reaches 65, he or she must retire. Bruce said that he decided to retire early due to the riggers of the road. He can still pilot his planes but he can no longer do so for pay.

Bruce is a commercial pilot and flew for Astraeus Airlines & he also pilots "Ed Force One" their passenger jet.
This song came out in 1982 and is the last track on the the "The Number of the Beast." album. Steve Harris, the bassist & song writer, created the band in 1975. We have all been wanting Bruce to turn his mic up since forever, lol. My second concert ever (First was Kiss) was Iron Maiden, we drove up to Seattle (Portland had/has a ban on pyrotechnics so a lot of bands did not play there) to seem them in 1884 I think. I have seen them quite a few times since then.

I went to see them in 1984 at the Philadelphia spectrum. Twister sister opened for them. It was the craziest concert I ever went to. I went with to the concert with my friends Joe B. Jerry P. who just passed away last month, Frank C. and my cousin Todd I. Joe brought a 1/2 pound of weed and rolled a join every minute or so and lit it then passed it down the row. We had a blast. Dee Snider from Twister Sister got the crowd going wild. It's a night I will never forget.

Iron Maiden has been around since 1975. Hallowed be thy Name was on an album released in March 1982. The Flight 666 concert DVD was filmed at concerts between Feb and March 2008 (the Toronto show here was on 16 March 2008). In reference to the time between the release of the song and this live performance, it is a period of almost exactly 26 years (a period that Iron Maiden was continually active, touring and releasing new material). So I'm betting a significant number of fans in that Toronto crowd were listening to a song released before they were actually born. Iron Maiden and the quality of their live performances is justifiably legendary; they are hugely influential for setting the benchmark (rarely achieved) for what is expected of a live heavy metal band in a concert performance.

It's really worth to listen close to all theyr albums and all these great songs. For me personally there was a gap in the whole 90's when blaze bayley was the singer, until bruce dickinson returns to the band in 1999. It wasn't really good, but brave new world (2000) was a great slbum again.

Iron Maiden was one of my first bands to listen when I was introduced to rock and metal...It was 2003 and I was just a kid to become a teenager. They just released Dance of Death, my first album from them and my third one in general (The Golden Age of Grotesque from Marilyn Manson first, and then Fallen from Evanescence) and it marked an important moment in my life, my golden age of discovery of rock and metal music, what a time to be a teenager, lots of bands in their prime, Maiden, Manson, HIM, Nightwish, Slipknot, Rammstein, Stratovarius, Muse, gosh, I miss the 2000-2010's...But Maiden is always going to have an special place in my heart, and if you have the opportunity, go to a show from them! It's absolutely worth it, it what you said, the energy, they have great and amazing music, of course, but it's all about the vibes, the feeling of being surrounded by various generations of fans. Unique. :D Last year I saw them for the second time, and WOW, you can't say that all of them have more than 60 years (the drummer passes the 70's) they sound like always, even better! Ah! and by the way, the singer, Bruce Dickinson, have a solo project that it's very worth to listen at! I suggest Tattooed Millionaire, Shoot at the clowns, tears of the dragon, killing floor, Inertia, Man of sorrows and abduction!

It's why they are the greatest. Check out Hallowed Be Thy Name (Live) Hammersmith for a better vocal performance. It's the best version in my opinion and many others. Bruce Dickinson is one of the most talented guys around. He has done so much in his life. One of his skills/jobs in the 'off-season' is professional pilot. He flies for a small company in Europe and when he asked if he could use one of their planes for their tour, his bosses agreed and even let the livery be added, so yeah, they have their own plane, piloted by their lead singer. and, in one case in the US, when he heard there were fans in a nearby city that could not get to their concert, he flew over to pick them up and flew them back to enjoy the concert. AMAZING guy, not just an awesome singer.

Although Iron Maiden was formed in 1975, Steve Harris (bass) is the only member (being the band leader + primary songwriter) from that original pub band from the West End of London... From the current Iron Maiden, Dave Murray (guitar) joined in 1976 and became a permanent member in 1977 (after some changes involving an early vocalist)... Murray was friends (and bandmates) w/ Adrian Smith (guitar) who had his own band Urchin; Smith declined to join Iron Maiden, but finally joined in late 1980 as Urchin folded.
Bruce Dickinson (vocals) was in a band called Samson in the late 70's/ early 80's and had done shows w/ Iron Maiden (when Paul Di'Anno was the vocalist)... When Di'Anno parted ways w/ Iron Maiden in the fall of 1981... Bruce Dickinson joined Maiden and made his debut on their 3rd album 'The number of the beast' in 1982 (which 'Hallowed be thy name' is on)
In 1989, Adrian Smith left Iron Maiden, burned out by a decade of touring... Janick Gers (guitar) played on Bruce Dickinson's first solo album in 1990 ('Tattooed millionaire') and Gers replaced Smith in Iron Maiden that year.
Bruce Dickinson left Iron Maiden in 1993 for a solo career... he was replaced by Blaze Bayley (vocals) for 2 albums. However, Maiden did poorly w/ Blaze as the singer... Dickinson's solo career also tanked... So, when the offer was made to reunite both Bruce Dickinson and Adrian Smith to Iron Maiden in 1999, they both accepted... Murray, Gers and Smith became a triple-guitar team in Maiden.
This video was from their 2008 tour ('Flight 666') which revisited their 1984/ '85 tour for their 5th album 'Powerslave'.

You failed to mention the late, great Clive Burr, who played on the first three albums, replaced by Nicko McBrain in 1982, and who is still with the band.

I saw Maiden for the first time when I was 13 - I saw them for the 6th time last year - almost 38 years to the day from the first time (I,m 52). They are incredible live even after decades and they give 110% to their fans every time - they thrive as a live band on stage more than anything. They are starting a new tour in the next week or so and will be back on the road just a few months after finishing a super long tour that was interupted by the pandemic. PS - love your shirt - saw the Phantom performance at the Pantages Theatre in Toronto in the early 80's and a few more times since. Iron Maiden also has a song called Phantom of the Opera - nothing like the Lloyd-Webber version tho. You should check it out!!

FYI...Bruce (Lead Singer) was flying the plane....all the members were in their late 60's early 70's when this video was shot. Pretty sure the drummer is either 70 or 71 at the time of this tour.

The story of how they got their “own” plane stemmed from planning this particular tour (Somewhere Back In Time Tour 2008/09).
Bruce worked as a pilot and marketing director for a now defunct airline called Astraeus. While the band were discussing the logistics of touring certain countries, they were on the verge of abandoning a world tour due to costs and travel, he pitched an idea to them along the lines of “I can ask my boss to lease us a plane, and we can use it to get the band, the gear, the crew and everything else from A to B in one go. We’d be able to do a world tour on a European tour itinerary and budget.”, and they said “yeah go for it”. So he spoke to his boss and he said “yes, but it’s coming out of your wages.”
So for that tour they leased a Boeing 757, converted to carry the additional cargo of the stage gear along with the band, crew, management, and a couple of film maker fans from Toronto (Scot McFadyen and Sam Dunn) who filmed a documentary for the first leg of the tour (Flight 666), and occasionally Bruce would even fly the plane himself, as long as he wasn’t performing within 12 hours of that flight.
The first leg of the tour finished in Toronto, so Scot and Sam were able to get straight into editing for the documentary. It’s definitely worth a watch if you get a chance, even just to see how big a following the band has worldwide… the first show was in Mumbai, they had never played in India before, but you wouldn’t know it by how the fans reacted. It’s when they get to the Latin Americas that it gets crazy though (Fear Of The Dark in Buenos Aires, Argentina and Wasted Years in Monterrey, Mexico are great examples of how crazy the fans can get).

Go back to a video recorded live in the 80's for this song with a much better audio quality. This band has been my favorite since the late 70's.

Not only do they have their own plane (callsign: Ed Force One), but until recently, the vocalist Bruce Dickinson used to pilot it.
