I honestly think Bruce has improved with age. Regardless, he is a force of nature who can still perform at the levels he was when he was in his 20s. Amazing.
@@markmm1066I wouldn’t say he’s improved or devolved. His voice has changed a lot. He still has the power and stamina. I've been an Iron Maiden fan for 30+ years. I took my 19 year son to go see them last year in DC and it was freaking epic!!! The pictures, videos, and memories we got will last for generations. They will absolutely blow your mind away!!! They ran around and played like they were 30 years old again. WOW!!!!
Been with them since Killers was released. Just took my oldest son to his first ever concert. The Priest. Now this weekend, I'm taking both my sons to see Maiden for the first time (#17 I think for me) and the first ever concert for my youngest. Good for you, friend.
Don't know if anyone already answered the question, but the singer of Maiden, Bruce Dickinson, is a real pilot and he flies the band jet. And yes, Maiden is absolutely one of the best live-bands ever. It's just not rational how they can perform!! But the most important thing I always see is that they're just having fun on stage with another, with the audience and with the music, even after almost 50 fuckin years on stage! It speaks for you that you acknowledged all that. Best reaction
I blame you for me going back and listening to loads of maiden after the last few maiden vids you've done 🤣 Honestly can't think of a better live band with such theatrics, stage presence and crowd control.
Or did, anyway. He's 65 now, and has said he won't be piloting Ed Force One anymore, due to age restrictions for airline pilots. Ed Force One was a 747 at one point, too.
Yeah he's retired from flying big commercial liners now. Not by choice I believe I think there's an age limit to how long you can fly commercially especially when carrying other souls on board. I'm pretty sure he could still pilot smaller private aircraft.
Nicko has always been my favorite drummer, but you should check out something off the first 2 albums that has Clive Burr on drums and Paul Di'anno singing. Maybe "murders in the rue morgue" or "phantom of the opera" Clive is criminally underrated.
Not to take anything away from Nicko, but the musical drum bits pre-solo that you were pointing out were written by the original drummer, the late great Clive Burr. Nicko inserts quite a bit of his own personality in Clive-era songs, but he has always played Hallowed be thy name relatively straight to Clive's original for some reason.
Came here to say much the same. As much as Nicko makes _Hallowed_ his own whenever he plays it (and he has played it an INSANE amount of times, given that it's the default concert-ender), the composition genius behind the drum part is entirely Clive's.
Agree. The faster tempo loses the feel of the song. Too much “noodling” from Dave coming into tempo. And don’t get me started on Janicks reworking of Adrian’s solo. They sound better live but 1982 is when they did.
I've seen them live several times, and they never disappoint. Once I saw them at an outdoor venue and a beach ball made it up on stage. Without missing a note they played soccer with it for a while before kicking back to the crowd. It was absolutely amazing
Welcome to the world of Iron Maiden! This live performance is from their Flight 666 DVD. I saw them last year in Gothenburg and it was so good. I think it was my 6th or 7th time. They're the reason I started playing the guitar 22 years ago. Also some facts I don't know if you know about. Bruce had two tumors back in 2015 when they were recording their album 'The Book of Souls'. One in his throat and one at the back of his tounge. He didn't wanted to do the surgery until after the album was done because he was afraid it would affect his voice too much. He wasn't even sure he could ever sing again. Also, Nicko had at the beginning of this year a mini stroke (A TIA). He got into a speedy rehab to be able to get on stage again asap. And between May 28th and October 2nd their tour 'The Future Past' has been going on. Iron Maiden are something else and very unique to music and performance. Bruce is not just an incredible singer, but also such an amazing story teller. Very theatrical band and musicians. I love these guys for so many reasons!❤
The english bands are insanely good when it comes to rock/metal music: Black Sabbath, Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, Iron Maiden, Judas Priest, just to name a few
A few years ago the Iron Maiden Fan Club asked its membership to pick the one song that if they could play to someone who had never heard Maiden, would perfectly deliver what the band was, in one song. This song won. By a landslide. That says it all, really.

3:28 I’ve been to a fair number of shows. Maiden has the best crowd energy I’ve ever seen. It’s not *always* the most energetic, but it’s both crazy and really positive/uplifting.
Great reaction , giving us your take on this great band from a drummers perspective without too many lengthy stops 👍 I grew up on this band , and their music has clearly stood the test of time , relating to their original fans from back in the day and the younger generation of today . Look in the audience at the age variation at their shows , its comical it's so diverse - From teens to Grandparents ! 😁 "Flight 666" is a Maiden documentary showing their show schedules , logistics with Ed Force One with Bruce Flying and concert footage , well worth a look at for an incite to this amazing hard working and professional outfit . You will see in this just how appreciative and committed they are to their fans , and why they have such a timeless cult following in return . The Maiden family is like a silent unofficial family , they just gather in mass to make their existence well known with continually sold out shows 😁. See you on the next one . Cheers from Melbourne 👍🇦🇺
I saw them that following summer in Montreal at the first ever Heavy Montreal and thank god because I couldn’t go to the Toronto show and my friends did and I was so jealous. This tour was probably one of the best and the whole tour was filmed by Canadian Sam Dunn. This always brings me back to being 18 and loosing my fucking mind at the barrier.
Ed Force One is a play on words for America’s Air Force One, the President personal plane. Eddie Iron Maiden is their mascot and is the skeleton dude on all their album covers. So, Ed Force One. Bruce is actually a licensed commercial pilot which he does in his spare time. Fun fact… he was also an Olympic fencing candidate back in the day.
I have been an Iron Maiden fan for almost 30 years. I managed to go to 2 concerts last year, and yep yep yep... You can feel the feelings I see from you here at a concert from beginning to end. They may not be running as much anymore, but the music and Bruce's voice are still perfect, impressive and fantastic.😊
They did this tour with Ed Force One, which was a Boeing 747, so that they could play a lot more shows than usual while still being well rested and having a great time. The fact that Bruce could graduate from a 757 to the real daddy jumbo jet certainly didn't hurt =D
I was a fair weather fan of Iron Maiden since around 1984 ish, until I saw them live about 12 years ago. Now I’m a true fan. Going to see them live, is amazing. If you get the chance, you’ve got to go.
Listening to the Number of the Beast album for the first time when it came out was an amazing experience, from the music to the album cover to the voice of Mr Vincent Price reading parts or Revelations.
The voice doing the intro for number of the beast was an actor called Barry Clayton, maiden wanted mr price but because of his fame the fee he asked for was to much.
To your questions about the live show, the band has been very vocal about not using a click track, though Nicko has said he uses some kind of device to help him start each song at the correct tempo. What happens after that is all about the organic experience of performing live. All three guitar players use in-ears, but if I remember right, Nicko and Steve do not. Can't remember about Bruce, but he has talked about the challenges of hearing the rest of the band while he sings when the drums and bass are relatively loud and the guitars relatively quiet on stage, and what he hears varies by where he is on stage.
At some point Nico started using a click at the beginning to find the right pace. In the past, it sometimes happened that he counted so quickly that his bandmates, and especially himself, couldn't keep up.
@@thomash.5505 I have a bootleg of them in 1993 where they play Can I Play With Madness and Bruce (who is no slouch when it comes to fast articulation) does not quite manage to get his chorus lines into the space his bandmates leave him. That click for starting was a good idea.
This show was the closest thing to magic. We were lucky enough to be onstage during “Heaven Can Wait” a few songs earlier in the set. I met a person that was to become one of my best friends, thanks to this show. And, to top it off, they ended the show with this song, my favorite song of all-time. Thanks for reviewing this particular live show.

I was at this show and it was outstanding. Also went to see Ed Force One arrive, when they were going to their van Nikko came over and talked to us and signed some autographs and was really a nice guy.
The first time I saw Maiden (late in life, admittedly) was during the Final Frontier tour. We were on the floor just behind the pit, and the opening chords of this started. I turned to my friends and suggested that we retreat a bit. It was a good call.

Love to see your excitement and joy ! 😄 I also really got into Iron Maiden a couple months ago and I exactly get how you're feeling ! You have to see them live. I have just seen them this year, and they are still as brilliantly mind-blowing as in this live video 2008 and Bruce still sounds amazing !
Maiden with Nicko have always had quite a dynamic tempo, especially live, but lots of recorded album songs were done this way. A few if not most of the later albums have been recorded with an almost-live style and using mostly one good take of the whole band recording the base song at the same time in the studio if i've understood it correctly. They're SO tight and they've had the same members for SO long... If they use metronomes or click-tracks, i couldn't tell you, i just know they're so tuned in to eachother as a band that it's almost magic seeing them live. Nicko is a very unique drummer, as anyone who understands anything about drumming already knows if they've heard Maiden =D
And to top it all off they sound amazing when they play live. One thing interesting is Maiden invests into their stage production and sound system. Bringing everything needed with them. Not chancing it on questionable stage gear at different venues.
I've been in three different Iron Maiden tributes. I'm a drummer. Nicko literally taught me how to play drums and I told him so when I met him. We had a long conversation. I'm probably a cross between Clive and Nicko. The older songs I play Clive.
Ronnie James Dio. I don't know if he is better than Bruce Dickenson, but they are at the very least....Equal. They are contemporary's as well. Though RJD is no longer with us (RIP), he was an absolutely impeccable singer. Dio also put on a great stage show. Bit different than Mr. Dickenson but SO VERY GOOD! Great Vid, Man! ✌
You will never get an intense show like this by any other band { bar acdc but they are hard rock band and floyd who are prog }. The irons are at another level when it comes to put a show on. You need to check out Rime of the Ancient Mariner on this tour.....Epic.
No clicks. Just feel of the music, and playing with each other every other night for 40 years, knowing what everyone is likely to do, even if they do something random or different, the whole band is right there. That's what makes them the best live band ever to exist (Queen close second).
For Maiden fans at a concert, Hallowed Be Thy Name is a religious experience. Not even being hyperbolic.
Yep, that sums it up. Heck, the whole concert practically is. For two hours, nothing else in the world exists.
Yep. Bout right. I am relatively positive the secret to life is in the last 3 minutes…
100% agree
Agreed. You know what song they are going to close with.
The energy at a Maiden show is something special. It is a positively primal connection
You have to watch Hallowed be Thy Name live in the 80s when Bruce voice was godlike
1982 at Hammersmith with Clive is the best version

Thank you for reminding me of how great this band is.
And to top it all off they sound amazing when they play live. One thing interesting is Maiden invests into their stage production and sound system. Bringing everything needed with them. Not chancing it on questionable stage gear at different venues.
probably one of my all time favorites by IM... the story telling the music and vocals
Masterpiece! 🤘🤘
Pure Energy
🤘
Ronnie James Dio when with Rainbow singing Stargazer or Gates of Babylon.
Yes! And the late, great Cozy Powell on drums! I'd love to see Andrew's reaction to Cozy's playing.
I've been in three different Iron Maiden tributes. I'm a drummer. Nicko literally taught me how to play drums and I told him so when I met him. We had a long conversation. I'm probably a cross between Clive and Nicko. The older songs I play Clive.
You don't get to be the biggest metal band in the world without being fucking awesome..🤘😁
Great video great audio. Band concert 🎶 👍
Up the irons!
Wow, they are great, never followed them much before now, and I will.
Saw them headlining Wacken Open Air this year. They're still killing it 🤘🏼!
As to your question to name a better vocalist… Bruce himself would say (& has said) Ronnie James Dio
I saw them live back in 82 I may be wrong (probably) but the band relied on the monitors back then for feedback. They were just as tight then.
Saw them two weeks ago in Vancouver. Still just as tight. Also Clive Burr was the original drummer on that song. You should check it out.
Hallowed Be Thy Name is the best metal song ever written. Fight me 🤣🤣🤣
They are coming to New Zealand next September.
Hallowed Be Thy Name is the fans anthem song 🤘
On the CD track, Steve plays harmonics during the intro. Giving it a very bell-like sound.
