    Nicko has gone through a lot this year.... a stroke, partial paralysis, extensive therapy to recover, and then hitting the road again while still recovering. Long may he continue! It's impossible to imagine Iron Maiden ever going on without him.

      HEAR! HEAR!
      when the time comes that Nicko can't go on the road I hope and prey that maiden then call it a day as far as touring goes , I'd hate to see any one of the six replaced on stage , it wouldn't feel right .

    This is from Chile; the footage from Dortmund is also a great, very different stage show as it was filmed on their tour in support of the album "Dance Of Death." You may be aware yet, Andrew, but Iron Maiden is coming to Auckland in 2024!

    Maiden is great live, of course. But you should listen to the studio version of Where Eagles Dare (probably transcribed on Drumeo) It was the fan’s introduction to Nicko when he replaced Clive Burr. As the first track on Piece of Mind, it loudly said, “Hello, I’m Nicko, the new drummer. You’re gonna love me!”

    11:24 they do incorporate some Celtic Folk elements in their more modern tracks. I think Janick may have brought that influence to their music, I don’t recall much, if any, Celtic influence before Janick joined, and he wrote Dance Of Death too. And then of course there’s The Clansman (which you’ve already reacted to) and Death Of The Celts, which are both very much Celtic all the way through, not just musically but lyrically too.

    • @matthewpoburyny5147
      @matthewpoburyny5147 11 месяцев назад +2

      You're right. Janick is the one who brought a lot of those elements to the band and wrote the songs that have that vibe in them; I love Janick!

    • @tay13666
      @tay13666 11 месяцев назад +1

      Totally on the nose. Janick loves that stuff. Just look at the way he does his own jig while playing it. And the crowd eats it up!
      Some of the purists turn their nose up at Janick's playing. But the dude can shred, and he is really entertaining. I always set up on his side of the stage when I am up close for a show. It's just more fun over there. Plus he comes up to the front of the stage and interacts a lot with the people there.

    Spot on about no click track. Most of the guys don't even wear in-ears, just regular earplugs.
    And yeah, they sometimes play too fast, but that is just because they get so pumped from the crowds. And as you said, it is a good thing. It's organic. It adds to the excitement of the show.

    This song's DNA is based very firmly in the poem of Rabbie Burns - Tam O'Shanter... a tale of a drunk that catch's sight of a witches Covent and is then chased by said witches. He escapes by jumping over a fallen down bridge... at which moment the witches almost have Tam and manage to pull off the horses tail.
    This song is 100% a modern, Maiden equivalent.
    This is also why the "Irish" jig style music is in there, the Traditional Scottish folk music that would accompany such a tale as Tam O'Shanter.
    One of Maiden's all time greats.

    Saw Maiden when I was about 15...I'm now 56 and saw them again, in July. My head was blown! They're as good now, as they were in the '80s. I know that Nicko's drumming isn't as technical, as it was before his stroke...but he's still a super solid backbone for the band.

    you must check a drum cam style of Where Eagled Dare. And keep in mind, that song was the introduction of Nicko right as he joined the band.

  • @GeFeldz
    @GeFeldz 11 месяцев назад

    Yeah, Iron Maiden is SUCH a live band. Nicko listens to Steve's bass and all of the guitars. He's always been such a "responsive" drummer, even in the early days (the early 80s =), following Steve's aweome bass rhythm and the basic rhythm of all the guitars.
    Since Bruce and Adrian re-joined in late 1998 (iirc) the whole band has just come together more and more with every album, even though they've naturally had individual struggles and what-not (ffs it's been 25 years and they've made awesome album after awesome album) and the last few albums have been that they just share their songs with eachother and then they come together in the studio and main-take the recordings simultaneously and then there are fine-tunings and extras recorded.

    • @GeFeldz
      @GeFeldz 11 месяцев назад

      I boldly predict there will never be such a band ever again in living memory, unless people start appreciating them more for what they are =)
      There certainly won't be a similar band in the next 30 years, there simply ISN'T the environment for an actual instrument-playing band to gain the live experience of nearly 40 years of playing gigantic stadium audiences on tour and honing their craft to this level.
      Please remember i'm saying this with sadness, also remember i hope i get to see THIS band live for many years to come =)
      Nicko is 71 years old, he's had a stroke but he's 90-95 percent back, so i SINCERELY hope i get to see Maiden live at least once more! My confidence is about 99%!
      Up the FUCKING Irons!

    The easiest way to sort the guitarists - Janick does the prancing and leg up on the amp/speaker, Dave the chunkier one and was the one that got patted on the head and does the interaction with Janick on most of the songs and Adrian is the one that stays around his part of the stage centre right looking outwards

    Iron Maiden is the greatest metal band of all time, and I don't care about any other opinions 😅. That being said, Judas Priest walked so Iron Maiden could run.

    I want to think that bands that don't use click tracks are better. I recall (I think it was) Adrian Smith being referred to as a human metronome. Practiced players don't need them (in my opinion).

      this is en vivo in some others he comes out in a long black hooded cape. you may like part 1 and 2 backstage with bruce showing all his preparations through a show, lay out tissues he gets snotty singing, water warm only coffee to sniff. wardrobe changes. etc all told with humor

    awe best live version of this is from Death on the Road DVD/Blue ray. This one from en Vivo isn't as good to me.

    Clicks are helpful in the studio , but for me they have no place when playing live .
