You need to react to "Where eagles dare" from the Piece of Mind album. That was Nicko's debut with Iron Maiden and blew everyone away. I recommend the studio version since I don't remember if there is a proper live recording of this song, others correct me if I'm mistaken.
    Edit:
I think the Live At Ullevi one is pretty good. And not to mention Bruce's vocals.. Damn!

Single kick, fast four. If you couldn't do this back in the day, you played double bass or slower music.
The studio version of this song is a perfect recording. Very rare gem of perfectly balanced aggression and style.
The pinnacle of the first album and the song they used to (maybe still do) bring Eddie out during live.

Saw a post from the magazine Metal Injection where Bruce gave an interview too and said: "We dont use backing tracks, clicktracks, play everything in the original key and live too fast due to the excitement." I think this is one of the things that separate maiden from lots of other metalbands. And yes A Iron maiden drumcover would be great to see and hear how you give your spin to it Andrew.

Eddie is more than a mascot ... I always pictured him as Iron Maiden fans. they are in the music , in the story of the characters being sung about. all of the art depicts different parts of the album or song. i find the albums built and felt almost themed. Aces High - you were a british airman at the battle of britton, The Trooper - you were cavalry at the charge of the light brigade, Somewhere in Time (the one shown in this video) you were part of that future, and so on... kind of the Iron Maiden Universe if you will, you (as Eddie) experience a truly unique view of history theater and literature and new tales and stories - through the eyes of Steve Harris and Iron Maiden,.
is how i always saw it anyways... might be the era of maiden that I got into them and my age and etc so on and so forth... i was ten, so 84ish... when World Slavery Tour is your primary introduction to the art and visual style of Iron Maiden - all of my IM exposure up to that show was dubbed cassettes and co'llege radio - heard about eddie but was not ready for the back of the damn stage to open and a giant mummy shooting fire to come out... was no going back... for ever more a maiden fan...

Single kick! Nicko only ever used a double pedal for one song in the studio, and that is it in the history of his drumming with Iron Maiden; it is a single kick all day, every day, haha! If you want your mind blown, or someone can request it for me, The Wicker Man track live from Rock In Rio is mind-blowing for his use of a single kick in the chorus and has great drum cam shots of his foot as well.

One hundred percent single pedal, with the exception of the track "Face in the Sand." And that was not a speed issue, that was a 2 minute constant bass drum pattern. Essentially, he didn't want to tire his ankle if they ever played it live. Huge Nicko and Steve fan here. Cheers from Canada.

Actually he has used it once on one song. Face in the Sand from Dance of Death is the only time he’s used it. 😊

The only time he used a double kick was while recording the song Face in the Sand from their 2003 album, Dance of Death. He said he didn't really enjoy using it, but it provided a way to keep the bass drum going through the song.
Even the great Nicko's calf muscles have limits!

@@SKR4K3N Yeah. And with good reason. I've tried playing it with one kick, damn, it's extremely exhausting.

I hate it how Nicko butchers this song in particular. you should have better watched the version from Beast Over Hammersmith 82 with Clive Burr on drums
