Death on the road was more theatrical.
I love both versions Death On The Road Tour and En Vivo version alot. The Death On The Road version is more theater involved, but the En Vivo version the crowd is more intense. The South American crowd is the greatest when it comes to Heavy Metal concerts. They always make shows better by their intensity.

I am blessed to live a few blocks away from Rock N Roll Ribs. Have been able to meet Nicko there on multiple occasions. Great guy and a fun place.

This is a great one! And it is on the set list for this summer's tour. Someone mentioned Sign of the Cross from this same concert and I 2nd that as it is awesome and on the set list as well.

I am so jealous of you mate. I remember being a kid at the time. Rock in Rio was my first album that I ever bought with my own money. I remember being completely enchanted with the holographic plastic cover and bought it straight away. My most listened to album of all time, no contest.
Such a great performance. It captures perfectly a maiden concert at its best. Amazing crowd and the band in fantastic form as always. A legendary concert as you mentioned. Part Scottish here.

I was at that concert. Rio de Janeiro, January 19, 2001. The cast of the day on the main stage had, among other bands, Sepultura, Queens of the Stone Age, Rob Halford and Iron Maiden closing the night. One of the most memorable concerts I've ever had the pleasure of watching. Maiden will tour the United States this year. July and August. If you can, do not miss a chance.

Do your homework and find out what the song is about. It was out 1998, a few years before the twin towers. The world doesn't revolve around America. If you listened you can hear him say medieval Scotland. Why would America be shouting freedom? Surely every country they invade should be screaming it.

As a Scotsman it's extra special singing out "freedom" when I've seen them play this live. Great song that originally went unnoticed by me on a non Bruce album.

It is awesome...truly awesome...to see your journey together into metal and the fact that you are experiencing new bands / hearing new versions + interpretations / new songs from bands you already heard of. I've been an Maiden fan since I was 11 or so - 1980. They never disappoint and seeing them live is significantly better than seeing a recording of a live show.
A perfect example as to why Iron Maiden are the best band ever.

You will be so blown away when you see them live. It's a really unique show, especially the Legacy of the Beast tour (which is modeled after their mobile game). #RockinRiodate the concert itself took place on Januari 19th 2001. And I think it's very cool that you both love the band so much even if you were doubtful when you were younger. It's never too late to appreciate great music and great artists. OOOOOOO Love this song. Good choice. I'm glad you guys are hitting up the Maiden in concert in Ft. Lauderdale. Carrie & I saw them in 83ish. Maybe 84. It was the "Number of the Beast" tour at the Sportatorium (RIP) out by the Everglades. Saw them with QUIET RIOT. Listen Mate... listen to Uriah Heep "Stealin" or "The Wizard" sometime. They helped bands like Maiden to help shape Metal. Oh, by the by... a scoop on Bruce Dickinson. He sang to Steve Harris "Remember Tomorrow" 3 different times to get the Maiden gig. Paul Di'Anno sings the studio version. It's really good. I heard it was one of Steve Harris's fave Maiden songs. I'll put it in Hash tag form. KKEEP KISSING! Peace! :)

#RockinRIoDate January of 2001. Yeah they're smiling 'cause they got the band back together. This was the first album tour (Brave New World) that they did with Bruce and Adrian rejoining. Bruce and Steve hammered out their differences and now things are running smoothly. This version of Maiden is twice as long (1999-present) as the original run with Bruce (1982-1993). Reason being is that everybody gets to contribute now. Everyone has a stake in the success of the band. It makes for a better working environment when everybody is happy. And they're genuinely happy

a song about : Tor comes from a giant hunt east to a strait. The ferryman, who in reality is Odin in the guise of a rude old man, refuses Thor a ride across the strait. It develops into an unpleasant conversation where the ferryman responds unkindly to Tor's shouts. Tor brags about all the clans he has killed (Hrungner and Tjatse and others) while the ferryman mockingly says that the traveler is obviously neither very wise nor full of happiness.

They do play this song on this tour. Kel covered what is great about a Maiden show... everything she said... the energy, the camaraderie... they are having fun, and that makes for a GREAT experience. I always likened a Maiden show to a religious experience...
How about a reaction to WISHBONE ASH..the band that inspired iron maiden..if you like blood brothers, or rime of the ancient mariner, you will love wishbone ash...their seminal album ARGUS was voted as one of the top ten best British rock albums of all time...

I live in SoCal and my daughters and I saw Iron Maiden Legacy of the Beast 2022 World Tour. They are so full of energy and their show is fucking wild!!! If I had to pick a favorite song from that night, The Clansman and Flight of Icarus would be the top ones. One hell of a live band. You have to see them at least once.

On the other hand, I prefer the album version of Sign of the Cross, although the Rock in Rio version is also good of course.
Oh and about turning into IM fans: that just happens - myself, I was turned by my brother by hearing Sign of the Cross, and I think I managed to turn another person by playing Blood Brothers to him. It just happens - they have so many great songs to get people interested :-)
