I would recommend listening to the version "Hallowed be thy name" from the awesome live album "Live After Death" Which was released much earlier on in their career (In your own time obviously because you've already reacted to this) But you'll very quickly pick up on the difference in the length of time Bruce holds on to the notes. I would like to take you up on your offer to suggest an early song from Maiden and by god if "Phantom of the Opera" doesn't show you just how much talent these guys had early on nothing will! It was on their first Album and it's still my favorite Maiden song even after all these years It's early Metal, Punk and I personally believe the very first Thrash song. React to it and tell me I'm wrong. Look forward to seeing your reaction!
Totally agree - I was lucky enough to be there that night - and I saw them a few short weeks ago here in London. Bruce and the boys haven't changed much - still veritable powerhouses!😊
Singer Bruce Dickinson (aka "the human air raid siren") was in his lare 50s when this was filmed. He was diagnosed with throat cancer in 2014. He made a full recovery and still sounds great today! Up the Irons!
I heard it live around 2008 during the somewhere back in time tour. A thunderstorm rolled in as they began playing and nobody cared. It was the was the best performance I've seen in my life.
@@haunter_1845 I've listened them on the same tour. The set-list was a killer! They have also sounded great on more recent Legacy of the Beast, but I've seen them four times now and Somewhere Back In Time tour is my favorite experience. It was an absolute joy to hear Rime of the Ancient Mariner live and to be present there and completely absorb the atmosphere of the song.
Flight 666 was filmed during their Somewhere Back in Time tour. They played in Warsaw, Poland during this tour back in 2008, 7th August. My frist concert ever. This show made me a metalhead, I started to grow my hair, bought Iron Maiden Tee. Big Iron Maiden fan since that day.
The Warsaw concert was on Bruce's 50th birthday. He flew flight 666 Bruce's Birthday Bomber trip with over 100 maiden FANS (inc me) to Warsaw. He did the gig and then DJ'd a party in Warsaw straight after the show. Then it was off too Prague the next morning for the maiden concert there.
The robot you were referring to is their "mascot" Eddie. He's on all their album covers and sometimes he appears moving and walking onstage and is usually gigantic.
The 1982 live performance of this same song is exactly what you were asking for. As good as this is Bruce takes it to a whole 'nother level on that one!
MORE MAIDEN PLEASE! Bruce is a legend. One of the most iconic voices in metal history. Check out the 1982 live version of this song. I think you will LOVE ‘Fear of the Dark’ from Flight 666 also…
They have some of THE best live shows everrrr! It's incredible how they've remained so quality for sooo long! You should definitely watch the older version of this song, it's mind-blowing!
Arguably the most iconic metal band through the years for their quality and longevity. This is a talented group of musicians and song writers beyond those qualities alone. Plus every Maiden song is an adventure, story or history lesson. I urge you to continue your Maiden journey and you will understand. Did you know Bruce Dickinson, the lead singer flies their 747 while on tour?
Made me chuckle about the Can I come to Xmas, The lead singer, Bruce, is also a commercial airline pilot. Imagine settling down to your holiday flight and "Welcome aboard ladies and gentlemen, this is your captain, Bruce................"
Anything live from Iron Maiden is gonna be full of stage theatrics. Their sets are always mind blowing. Especially their live rendition of Rhime of the Ancient Mariner. The bird mask and the creaking ship sounds were great
You said, that the lead singer has much sweat: This was the last of 21 concerts in 42 days around the world. And they had their own Boing 757 and the singer was also one of the pilots. They start at London go to India, Australia, Japan, after one concert in Los Angeles the where in many states of south america and the last concert (this one) was in Toronto (Canada). This was 2008. And 2011 they go over 100 concerts all around the world with their own Jumbo Jet (Boing 747) and Bruce also was the pilot.
Every metal band today has been inspired by iron maiden, my favourite quote from a singer came from lady gaga, at the height of her career a reporter asked her. " do you want to be the next Madonna, gaga replied NO i want to be the next iron maiden " i suggest you do the beast over hamersmith live 1982 version of this song it's bruce at his prime.
Bruce Dickinson (the vocalist) is over 50 years old here (he is born in 1958, this was shot in...uuh... 2010'ish ?). If you want to hear him at his peak, there is a live 1982 recording of this same song here on RUclips. As for "all the guitars", one of the guitarists (Adrian Smith) left the band in the 90's and was replaced by Janick Gers. When Smith later re-joined Iron Maiden, instead of getting rid of Gers, they kept all 3 guitarists going forward.
@@PlacidDragon Well, they've both worked on Dickinson's solo albums (although not at the same time) and had much respect for one another even before working together in Maiden.
Funny thing to look up, Floor gave an interview where Steve Harris from the bassist and founder maiden came up to her and proclaimed how much of a fan he was, she was totally humbled.
I live in Santa Monica California and I caught Maiden in 1985 in Long Beach at all 4 shows that were filmed and became Live After Death ! UP THE IRONS!
Iron Maiden has one of the most dedicated and long time fan base . they have been together for 50 years. P.S., the lead singer is also the pilot of their airplane.
Bruce Dickinson is an effin beast. Look at some of the early live shows, you'll see him running all over the stage like a mad man. He's old school, uses stage placed feedback monitors instead of the in-ear monitors. Put him in the same class as Rob Halford, David Draiman, and yes, Ozzy. there's a reason these guys will sing at a high level until the day they die. They know what the frack they are doing. \m/
Since you're a theatre kid you should check out their live performance of "Rime of the Ancient Mariner". It's their most theatrical song, a true metal epic based on the 18th century Samuel Taylor Coleridge poem of rhe same name. I recommend reading the poem first and then enjoy Maiden's great adaptation.
Best version of this song to see Bruce when young is live at Hammersmith Apollo - it’s flawless - Beast over Hammersmith tour - check out anything from that show to see how great he was as a young man
I actually prefer some elements of this version to the undoubtedly more powerful Hammersmith Apollo one. Although Bruce couldn't hit those high notes he used to have been able to, there's a certain pathos to this version and he's more emotional and telling the story here, and the ending is absolutely beautiful with those vibratos. Both performances have their own merit in my eyes and I like both for different reasons.
1982 Hallowed Be Thy Name is a must, there are some differences but you'll be so impressed on how his voice has carried through the decades. He was diagnosed with Throat Cancer in 2014 and made a full recovery and is still singing today. The Evil That Men Do from the 'Maiden England' show is also amazing!!
I'll throw out some recommendations for you Charis: Hallowed Be Thy Name (Hammersmith 1982) Fear of the Dark (Rock in Rio 2001) Phantom of the Opera (Ullevi 2005) Revelations (Flight 666 2008) Powerslave (Live After Death 1985) Dance of Death (En Vivo 2011) Infinite Dreams (Maiden England 1988) And many more songs that don't necessarily need to be done live (although it won't hurt) such as The Number of the Beast, Run to the Hills, Aces High, Wasted Years, The Rime of the Ancient Mariner, 2 Minutes to Midnight, The Trooper, The Evil That Men Do and Children of the Damned.
They aren't using in ears because they've been tearing up stadiums live for decades before in ears were invented. They're quite comfortable using monitors to hear what they're playing
My advice to delve into older Iron Maiden, you can't go wrong with studio versions of Number of the Beast, Trooper, or Run to the Hills... 3 of the most iconic Maiden songs . and if you want to do another live recording, check out the Live After Death album
As far as specific songs, all the best stuff is from their '80s albums. "The Trooper" is probably the most fan-beloved song, maybe "Rime of the Ancient Mariner." "Number of the Beast" if you're looking for their big "hit."
Yes! Iron Maiden! I’ve seen them 15 times over the past 32 years and Bruce actually sounds better now that he did back in the day. Not bad for a 65 year old. He was around 50 in this video. During this tour he piloted their private 747 around the world. No, that’s not a joke.
bruce dickinson is an awesome singer now, and clearly still has the style points to go along with it. i'd love to see you react to one of their live videos from around when he joined the band. he looks unrecognizable with the classic super long hair from the era
Having seen Maiden many tines over the years, I can attest that Bruce rarely, ever puts in a bad performance. He's been doing that for a long time and is also a throat cancer survivor. Ya wanna check similar type vocalists then check out Geoff Tate, ex Queensryche, and Michael Kiske of Helloween, phenomenal vocalists.
Before they really got big, Bruce was on the short list of the British Olympic Fencing Team, the band took off and he had to withdraw, but he still keeps his hand in by fighting Eddie on stage. He left the band in the 90s, apart from releasing solo albums, he made a living flying commercial passenger jets, he also founded his own company servicing passenger jets at Cardiff Airport. He re-joined the band in 99 I think. For this world tour they chartered a Boeing 727 for him to fly, and their air traffic control call sign was Air Atlantique 666, hence the flight 666 reference. For their last world tour they up graded to a Boeing 747 Jumbo jet, and Bruce had to up grade his licence from 2 to 4 engine.
The look of sheer unpretentious pleasure on Bruce's face when the fireworks go off sums up everything about Irom Maiden. There isn't a better live act around. Saw them in June this year...as awesome as ever
Bruce was a powerhouse in the 80s and still is now. One of the best voices in metal. It’s not too far of a fetch to compare with Nightiwsh as Bruce is known for being operatic in his style. If you watch and old version of this song it has to be the Hammersmith performance.
Iron Maiden are an English heavy metal band formed in Leyton, East London, in 1975 by bassist and primary songwriter Steve Harris. Although fluid in the early years of the band, the line-up for most of the band's history has consisted of Harris, lead vocalist Bruce Dickinson, drummer Nicko McBrain, and guitarists Dave Murray, Adrian Smith and Janick Gers. As pioneers of the new wave of British heavy metal movement, Iron Maiden released a series of UK and US Platinum and Gold albums, including 1980's debut album, 1981's Killers, and 1982's The Number of the Beast - its first album with Bruce Dickinson, who replaced Paul Di'Anno as lead singer. The addition of Dickinson was a turning point in their career, establishing them as one of heavy metal's most important artists.[2] The Number of the Beast is among the most popular heavy metal albums of all time, having sold almost 20 million copies worldwide
all these guys are pushing 60 plus, crazy how great they all look and sound and their energy after all these years. recommendations for old Iron maiden (bruce dickenson era) REVELATIONS, RUNNING FREE (LIVE AFTER DEATH 1985) Live Performances.. running free is an awesome live song, great crowd interaction...
also early Iron Maiden had a different singer, Paul Diano, much different voice than Bruce, Phanton of the opera is a musical genius type song, wrathchild, murders in the rue morge, these songs are off the album Killers lastly, Iron Maidens first album simply called Iron Maiden which has runnin free on it which Paul Diano sings. I do like Bruces live version better. ENJOY :)
I think the most amazing part isn't even the music, it's the fact that after 40+ years, these guys clearly still loving hitting the stage together and putting on a great show.
Hey Charis, G’day from Australia 🇦🇺 and you asked why Bruce isn’t wearing an ear monitor, it’s probably because he’s used to stage monitors which back in the day were so awesome when you had a great stage mixer, or stage tech, who is in charge of giving the band an incredible stage sound. Back in my day an excellent stage mixer and stage sound was the only way to go, 🇦🇺👏❤
Bruce posted 2 videos on Iron Maidens RUclips channel about what he does backstage during a show. Costumes, hydration all of it. I recommend watching those even if you don't do a reaction, they are very interesting and only a few minutes long.
Iron Maiden play this Year 2023 at the Wacken Open Air in Germany as Headliner and this Song is still in the Liveset and all Member are older than 65 years old
I've been listening to Maiden since 1982, probably before you were born, so I'm pretty versed on them. Bruce uses ear plugs and I don't know why Bruce doesn't use an ear monitor, my guess, Bruce is old school. Iron Maiden current are: Bruce Dickinson - Vocals Born: August 7, 1958 (age 64 years) Started with Iron Maiden in 1981, left in 1993 and rejoined in 1999 and present singer Steve Harris - Bassist and Founder Born: March 12, 1956 (age 68 years), Started the band in 1975 and has never left Dave Murray - Guitarist Born: December 23, 1956 (age 65 years), 1976-1977, 1978- present Adrian Smith - Guitarist Born: February 27, 1957 (age 66 years), 1980-1990, 1999-present Janick Gers - Guiarist Born: January 27, 1957 (age 66 years), 1990 - present Nicko McBrain - Drums Born: June 5, 1952 (age 70 years), 1982 - present The next songs I'd recommend, in no particular order, when you do Iron Maiden again, are: Phantom of the Opera (Live at Rainbow 1980) Rime of the Ancient Mariner Live Flight 666 Where Eagles Dare (Live At Ullevi, Sweden) The Longest Day (about D-Day) Revelations (lyric video) The Clansman - (Rock In Rio 2001) Dance Of Death - En Vivo! as well as any of the ones listed below. Of course there are other songs others will recommend, but since this is my list, this is the ones I recommend. One reactor on RUclips I helped through his "Maiden Voyage" as we called it, he ended up doing all the songs on their 17 studio albums and most of their cover songs. Now his favorite band. Highlight of songs and what they are about that all that I'd recommend are: From Iron Maiden album------ Phantom of the Opera - A must for live version Strange World (this one will be totally different Iron Maiden) From Killers album------ Murders in the Rue Morgue (Very loosely influenced by Edgar Allen Poe's short story, a story of a fugitive being sought for murder) Genghis Khan (an instrumental - perfect for air drumming) Innocent Exile (continues the theme of Murders in the Rue Morgue of an unjustly accused fugitive) Killers (A journey into the twisted mind of a deranged killer) Prodigal Son(about a repentant man reminiscent of the prodigal son parable found in Luke 15 of the bible) Purgatory(lyrics of song read like a poem) Drifter (focuses on the possibility of new beginnings) From The Number of the Beast album ------ Invaders (It graphically depicts the violence and horror of a defense against a Viking invasion) The Prisoner (based on the UK television series that ran briefly in the late 1960’s) 22 Acacia Avenue (The continuation of Charlotte the Harlot) The Number of the Beast (Inspired by a dream Bassist Steve Harris had after watching the movie the Omen2) Run to the Hills (about the European arrival in America told from the perspective of both the oppressed Cree and the invading white soldiers) Hallowed be Thy Name (about a man who is about to be put to death and what he goes through) From Piece of Mind album ------ Where Eagles Dare (based on an Alistair Maclean novel, (1967), and film (1968) about a WWII rescue of an American general from a Nazi stronghold in the Bavarian Alps Revelations (Starts with the Hymnal from Oh God of Earth and Alter, the next two verses on the Hindu philosophy, the third verse in Yoga a snake called Kundalini that lives at the base of your spinal cord, during meditation a spiritual entity is created symbolizing the transcendental union with God) Flight of Icarus (loosely based on the ancient Greek myth of Icarus) The Trooper (based on the Charge of the Light Brigade at the Battle of Balaclava 1854,which took place during the Crimean War) To Tame a Land (the song relays the story of Paul Atreides, Paul Muad'Dib, from the book Dune by Frank Herbert) From Powerslave album ------ Aces High (about aircraft dog fighting between the British and German fighter pilots of WWII) 2 Minutes to Midnight - About the Doomsday clock for the End of the World Back in The Village (The continuation of the song The Prisoner) Powerslave (about an arrogant pharaoh in his dying hours, he can't understand why he's about to die and fights it in vain) Rime of the Ancient Mariner - (From the poem of the same name by Samuel Taylor Coleridge (story about about an ocean voyage) From Somewhere in Time album------- Wasted Years (A song about the admonition to appreciate the present and not to take things for granted) The Loneliness of the Long Distance Runner (based on a short story of Alan Sillitoe which was made into a 1962 film Alexander the Great (About the story of Alexander the Great From 7th Son of a 7th Son album (a concept album)------ Infinite Dreams (Detailing someone who is tormented by paranormal dreams and nightmares) The Evil That Men Do (Title taken from a quote in Shakespeare Julius Caesar but the song is unrelated) The Clairvoyant (relates the reflections of the 7th Son of the 7th Son on his life and his powers) From Fear of the Dark album------ Wasting Love (About the emptiness of relationships without love. Another Maiden ballad) Fear of the Dark (About being afraid of the dark and the things in the dark that might be there - absolute a live performance for this one) From Brave New World album------ The Wicker Man (about the apathy of our modern society and our egotistic disinterest of what is happening until something happens to us) Ghost of the Navigator (The lyrics are a metaphor of life, with the ship sailing west towards the setting sun representing death) Brave New World (Loosely based on the 1932 novel by Aldous Huxley) Dream of Mirrors (Yet another song about reoccurring and maybe premonitory dreams) Out of the Silent Planet (Supposedly inspired by the 1956 science -fiction film Forbidden Planet) From Dance of Death album------ No More Lies (The lyrics deal with someone knows his time has come with the possibility of reincarnation) Dance of Death (Orinally inspired by Ingmar Bergman's 1957 film The Seventh Seal - Another one to do as a live performance) Paschendale (about the Battle of Passchendaele during WWI) From A Matter of Life and Death------ Brighter than a Thousand Suns (About the dawn of the nuclear bomb age) The Longest Day (about the WWII Normandy Invasion) Out of the Shadows (About being born)
ruclips.net/video/7vP2hFFV57E/видео.html This is the live from 1982 version of the song, you should be looking at for comparison. Fantastic vocals! Please keep in mind that the album that has this song was going to be released a couple of weeks after the performance. So, noone in the audience has heard it before. On top of that, hardly anyone knew Bruce Dickinson at the time because he had just replaced former singer Paul Dianno, who had recorded the first two Iron Maiden albums. So if the audience seems timid, it is because they are taking in this new experience.
Bruce is simply amazing! He’s been doing it for 40 yrs and still sounds tremendous! He’s always been careful about how he uses his voice. From how open he keeps his mouth. His breath control. All the way to how he stands. He does all this at the age of 64! Also having survived throat cancer!
@@RolandDeschain1 sorry but it was throat cancer. It may have spread to the tongue but it was most definitely throat cancer. And yes, he is astonishing.
I loved watching your reaction as always! When it comes to Iron Maiden, they set the bar for live metal performances and have done so for decades! They have a huge following and are absolutely one of the biggest bands in the world still to this day. To help understand and appreciate how huge and amazing. I suggest checking out the docu-movie this performance came from, 'Flight 666'. I promise you it's worth it. I would say even more so for someone like yourself who is currently exploring the most important metal bands of our time. It's a 101 lesson in Maiden and also just how huge of an influence metal music like Maiden still has on people all over the world. The lead singer, Bruce Dickerson definitely has an amazing voice as you witnessed. And, he is also known for delivering a very over the top, demonstrative performerance for every show. I would also bet this is why he was wearing those crazy pants, and did so for every show on that tour. It's just another way to help be more easily noticed by the fans all the way in the back! Dickerson is someone who believes in huge hand and arm gestures. Making himself as big as he can be on stage in his performance to ensure every fan, even the very last fans all the way in the last row will experiences the best live show possible!
There are a million-and-one things I can say about Maiden because they're my favorite band but I'll try to keep it short 😂. First off, they have been around for over 40 years and have a vast catalog that rarely falters imo (many will not agree.) This performance is from 2008 and is fantastic but I highly recommend that you do the same song from the 1982 Hammersmith show. This is my personal favorite song ever and is often considered their greatest track. They have plenty of great, professionally recorded live concerts beginning from 1980. I may be biased but I do consider them the single greatest live-act in history and I think you can at least understand why. I don't think you'll be disappointed if you continue your Maiden journey. Up the Irons!
Iron maiden is not my favorite band but i do love them, i'm adding to say...Yes, they have the best live show i have ever seen and i have seen alot of shows. They put on the best show.
Keep in mind in the early 2000, Bruce had a battle with throat cancer. Also Bruce did all the piloting on Ed Force One, a 777. I May be wrong on that, but it was a big ass plane😋
When it comes to Iron Maiden and Nightwish. Well, Finland and Iron Maiden have a _long_ history. Before the Iron Curtain collapsed Finland was at the ass end of the European tour stages and a small country. Most big bands never bothered to come at all. But young Iron Maiden did, and was met with such enthusiasm that they promised right on the stage to come to Finland on every European tour they'll ever do. And they kept that promise. So when Finland transformed from a country of tons of dedicated metal fans to a country of tons and tons of metal _bands_, Iron Maiden was a strong influence, because it's one of the masters everyone had seen and ended up imitating. For decades it was almost impossible to find a Finnish guitarist who would not have been able to play the Iron Maiden classics right from memory. They've also always been a band that can put up a _show_, with gigantic backdrops for every song in the set to Bruce changing costumes to play the characters to the huge zombie-like mascot Eddie walking the stage. So yes, practically every metal band in Finland founded in the 20th century was more or less influenced by them. And Bruce is like a walking breath support. He's one of the Unholy Trinity with Rob Halford and Ronnie James Dio, the defining voices of the New Wave of British Heavy Metal, usually nowadays called just heavy metal and dubbed an air raid siren in the early years. All three are extremely gifted and skilled singers, setting the standard for melodic metal vocals pretty high.
Iron Maiden is a New Wave Of British Heavy Metal band originally formed in the late 1970's and released their first album in 1980 and their later albums can be considered Power Metal because their music sounds similar to the Power Metal style
Your thought about asking to come to Christmas is one I know well. My stepmoms cousin is Steve "The Colonel" Cropper who was one of the guitar players in The Blues Brother band and co wrote "Sitting on the Dock of the Bay" with Otis Redding. I am always saying he needs to be invited to any and all family gatherings!
If you can find it, Powerslave live 1985 long beach was shot during the live after death live album recording. I think the only Iron Maiden member that's shirtless will be Eddie.
Not going to bother with scanning through other comments because I'm sure there are many that say this isn't even close to the best live version of the song. Hammersmith 1982 for the best. That said, I saw this song performed by the band in Fall 2022 and the vocals were better than this 2008 performance. Saw them again a few weeks back in Prague, where they didn't play this one, but the vocals were a notch better than what I saw in 2022. A few months shy of 65, and he's the youngest in the band. A complete thrill to see them still doing this at a level that bands half their age would kill to achieve.
Hey! I have a a fantastic one for everyone and you! First, you gotta hear it live, it's TESLA - Live in Minnesota, 2008. "Song and Emotion" or "Private Ledbetter" as a real emotion tugger. The whole concert is just one of Tesla's best.
More Iron Maiden please! To compare this performance to a very early performance of this song then react to the video from the show in 1982 at the Hammersmith Odeon in London.
Iron Maiden, Live After Death from 1984 in Long Beach Arena is a great one to watch and compare that version of Hallowed Be Thy Name to the one you just watched.

If you're keen for a comparison I would strongly suggest the 1982 performance from Hammersmith Odeon in London. Vocally, it's astonishing.

Yes do it much better performance.
You have to do fear of the dark live in rio
agree with Grim wholeheartedly...the Hammersmith live version is just amazing.

with the best vibrato ever

None of them wear in-ears - It's all stage monitors. They're old-school because, well, they're old and that's what they've always done!
Janick and Adrian use IEMs.
I think it's just to give Bruce something to stand on and Steve to have one leg on, to be honest :P.
Bruce also wears IEM...The orange thing in his ear the end of the video...

Going to an Iron Maiden concert is like going to a full theater production. You would be very impressed. They still tour 50 years on.
Yes if you want to hear the best version of this song definitely check out the 82 live.
And Adrian actually insisted that he would not come back to Maiden if it meant that Janick would be out.
@@Urizen777 Very interesting, i didn't know that part :)
@@PlacidDragon Well, they've both worked on Dickinson's solo albums (although not at the same time) and had much respect for one another even before working together in Maiden.
I actually prefer this version to the '82 recording.
Funny thing to look up, Floor gave an interview where Steve Harris from the bassist and founder maiden came up to her and proclaimed how much of a fan he was, she was totally humbled.
What is even more impressive is this is the last song of a 2+ hour high energy set.
This is even more impressive when you realise this is the last song of the set on the last show of the tour.
It's fantastic to see someone who has been doing this for decades, still enjoying it SO much ❤
Bruce Dickinson is an effin beast. \m/
Do not forget the absolute best, Ronnie James Dio
Absolutely 👍
You should love them they are the most theatrical band until Nightwish so your brilliant analysis was on point !!!❤❤❤
I'll throw out some recommendations for you Charis:
Hallowed Be Thy Name (Hammersmith 1982)
Fear of the Dark (Rock in Rio 2001)
Phantom of the Opera (Ullevi 2005)
Revelations (Flight 666 2008)
Powerslave (Live After Death 1985)
Dance of Death (En Vivo 2011)
Infinite Dreams (Maiden England 1988)
And many more songs that don't necessarily need to be done live (although it won't hurt) such as The Number of the Beast, Run to the Hills, Aces High, Wasted Years, The Rime of the Ancient Mariner, 2 Minutes to Midnight, The Trooper, The Evil That Men Do and Children of the Damned.
They aren't using in ears because they've been tearing up stadiums live for decades before in ears were invented. They're quite comfortable using monitors to hear what they're playing
Saw them in 1983 in Toronto and to hear Bruce say “Thank you Toronto” in this, it gave me shivers!!!
My advice to delve into older Iron Maiden, you can't go wrong with studio versions of
Number of the Beast, Trooper, or Run to the Hills... 3 of the most iconic Maiden songs . and if you want to do another live recording, check out the Live After Death album
Remember he started singing this song in 1982, this recording was from 2009 and he still sounds good today. Also beat throat cancer in 2014
As far as specific songs, all the best stuff is from their '80s albums. "The Trooper" is probably the most fan-beloved song, maybe "Rime of the Ancient Mariner." "Number of the Beast" if you're looking for their big "hit."
They were my history teachers growing up. Metal gods here on earth. Up the irons. You could spend months and just scratch the surface
From Icarus to Empire they were always our history teachers. They always had just the right amount.
Yes! Iron Maiden! I’ve seen them 15 times over the past 32 years and Bruce actually sounds better now that he did back in the day. Not bad for a 65 year old. He was around 50 in this video. During this tour he piloted their private 747 around the world. No, that’s not a joke.
Bruce is known for his wonderful pants/trousers. - Rumour has it, when the tailor asked "what kind of trousers do you want?" Bruce just said "Yes".
The 1982 hammersmith version shows Bruce in his prime singing this and its incredible. They are beyond icons
bruce dickinson is an awesome singer now, and clearly still has the style points to go along with it. i'd love to see you react to one of their live videos from around when he joined the band. he looks unrecognizable with the classic super long hair from the era
As a theater kid you would probably love The Trooper by Iron Maiden, live they usually have a flag a la Les Miserables 😝
A union Jack?
Grew up with these guys in the 80's. Amazing is an understatement.
No inears, because when he gets back to England, he wants the ear doctor to tell him that Long Beach fucked up his hearing.
So good seeing Bruce back in action after his throat cancer. He's a legend.
Iron maiden is considered one of the godfathers of power metal, so yes Nightwish would absolutely be considered in the same genre.
I am excited see them every year so sure quite excited.
I can’t wait to see these guys in September
Rule #1 of seeing Maiden live: When Steve Harris "machine guns" the audience with his bass, you must act like you've been SHOT BY ROCK!
These guys are all 60+ years old but still killing it every night.
That was their encore at that Toronto show. Imagine trying to maintain that stamina for 3+hrs in your mid-late 50's. These guys are the tightest ever!
Go sew Iron Maiden. They will NEVER disappoint. 🤘😎🤘
all these guys are pushing 60 plus, crazy how great they all look and sound and their energy after all these years. recommendations for old Iron maiden (bruce dickenson era) REVELATIONS, RUNNING FREE (LIVE AFTER DEATH 1985) Live Performances.. running free is an awesome live song, great crowd interaction...
also early Iron Maiden had a different singer, Paul Diano, much different voice than Bruce, Phanton of the opera is a musical genius type song, wrathchild, murders in the rue morge, these songs are off the album Killers lastly, Iron Maidens first album simply called Iron Maiden which has runnin free on it which Paul Diano sings. I do like Bruces live version better. ENJOY :)
I think the most amazing part isn't even the music, it's the fact that after 40+ years, these guys clearly still loving hitting the stage together and putting on a great show.
Great reaction thanks greetings from Costa Rica 🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉
You're impressed they've been kicking ass for well over forty years.
Iron Maiden play this Year 2023 at the Wacken Open Air in Germany as Headliner and this Song is still in the Liveset and all Member are older than 65 years old
You have Earned a, "RAISE THE IRONS"!
I was at this show! One of the best concerts of my life.
I've been listening to Maiden since 1982, probably before you were born, so I'm pretty versed on them. Bruce uses ear plugs and I don't know why Bruce doesn't use an ear monitor, my guess, Bruce is old school.

Where Eagles Dare (Live At Ullevi, Sweden)
The Longest Day (about D-Day)
Revelations (lyric video)
The Clansman - (Rock In Rio 2001)
Dance Of Death - En Vivo!
as well as any of the ones listed below. Of course there are other songs others will recommend, but since this is my list, this is the ones I recommend. One reactor on RUclips I helped through his "Maiden Voyage" as we called it, he ended up doing all the songs on their 17 studio albums and most of their cover songs. Now his favorite band.
Highlight of songs and what they are about that all that I'd recommend are:
From Iron Maiden album------
Phantom of the Opera - A must for live version
Strange World (this one will be totally different Iron Maiden)
From Killers album------
Murders in the Rue Morgue (Very loosely influenced by Edgar Allen Poe's short story, a story of a fugitive being sought for murder)
Genghis Khan (an instrumental - perfect for air drumming)
Innocent Exile (continues the theme of Murders in the Rue Morgue of an unjustly accused fugitive)
Killers (A journey into the twisted mind of a deranged killer)
Prodigal Son(about a repentant man reminiscent of the prodigal son parable found in Luke 15 of the bible)
Purgatory(lyrics of song read like a poem)
Drifter (focuses on the possibility of new beginnings)
From The Number of the Beast album ------
Invaders (It graphically depicts the violence and horror of a defense against a Viking invasion)
The Prisoner (based on the UK television series that ran briefly in the late 1960’s)
22 Acacia Avenue (The continuation of Charlotte the Harlot)
The Number of the Beast (Inspired by a dream Bassist Steve Harris had after watching the movie the Omen2)
Run to the Hills (about the European arrival in America told from the perspective of both the oppressed Cree and the invading white soldiers)
Hallowed be Thy Name (about a man who is about to be put to death and what he goes through)
From Piece of Mind album ------
Where Eagles Dare (based on an Alistair Maclean novel, (1967), and film (1968) about a WWII rescue of an American general from a Nazi stronghold in the Bavarian Alps
Revelations (Starts with the Hymnal from Oh God of Earth and Alter, the next two verses on the Hindu philosophy, the third verse in Yoga a snake called Kundalini that lives at the base of your spinal cord, during meditation a spiritual entity is created symbolizing the transcendental union with God)
Flight of Icarus (loosely based on the ancient Greek myth of Icarus)
The Trooper (based on the Charge of the Light Brigade at the Battle of Balaclava 1854,which took place during the Crimean War)
To Tame a Land (the song relays the story of Paul Atreides, Paul Muad'Dib, from the book Dune by Frank Herbert)
From Powerslave album ------
Aces High (about aircraft dog fighting between the British and German fighter pilots of WWII)
2 Minutes to Midnight - About the Doomsday clock for the End of the World
Back in The Village (The continuation of the song The Prisoner)
Powerslave (about an arrogant pharaoh in his dying hours, he can't understand why he's about to die and fights it in vain)
Rime of the Ancient Mariner - (From the poem of the same name by Samuel Taylor Coleridge (story about about an ocean voyage)
From Somewhere in Time album-------
Wasted Years (A song about the admonition to appreciate the present and not to take things for granted)
The Loneliness of the Long Distance Runner (based on a short story of Alan Sillitoe which was made into a 1962 film
Alexander the Great (About the story of Alexander the Great
From 7th Son of a 7th Son album (a concept album)------
Infinite Dreams (Detailing someone who is tormented by paranormal dreams and nightmares)
The Evil That Men Do (Title taken from a quote in Shakespeare Julius Caesar but the song is unrelated)
The Clairvoyant (relates the reflections of the 7th Son of the 7th Son on his life and his powers)
From Fear of the Dark album------
Wasting Love (About the emptiness of relationships without love. Another Maiden ballad)
Fear of the Dark (About being afraid of the dark and the things in the dark that might be there - absolute a live performance for this one)
From Brave New World album------
The Wicker Man (about the apathy of our modern society and our egotistic disinterest of what is happening until something happens to us)
Ghost of the Navigator (The lyrics are a metaphor of life, with the ship sailing west towards the setting sun representing death)
Brave New World (Loosely based on the 1932 novel by Aldous Huxley)
Dream of Mirrors (Yet another song about reoccurring and maybe premonitory dreams)
Out of the Silent Planet (Supposedly inspired by the 1956 science -fiction film Forbidden Planet)
From Dance of Death album------
No More Lies (The lyrics deal with someone knows his time has come with the possibility of reincarnation)
Dance of Death (Orinally inspired by Ingmar Bergman's 1957 film The Seventh Seal - Another one to do as a live performance)
Paschendale (about the Battle of Passchendaele during WWI)
From A Matter of Life and Death------
Brighter than a Thousand Suns (About the dawn of the nuclear bomb age)
The Longest Day (about the WWII Normandy Invasion)
Out of the Shadows (About being born)
Don't forget. These guys are in their late 60's and have done a whole gig before hand and part of a tour.
some classic maiden favs of mine are the wicker man, the trooper, can i play with madness, run to the hills
ruclips.net/video/7vP2hFFV57E/видео.html This is the live from 1982 version of the song, you should be looking at for comparison.
I think they still use on stage monitors so no need for in ear ones, or at least a couple of them do.
Saw Maiden last October, & they seem to even get better with age. An amazing show, & I definitely recommend 👍🏼🤘🏼
That was the last song during a 2 hour concert.
And to think that he is doing this well up there in years. Bruce Dickinson's vocals in the 80's and 90's were even more insane.
Fear Of The Dark Live in Argentina is Fantastic..they are really passionate about there Rock n Roll.
Bruce is simply amazing! He’s been doing it for 40 yrs and still sounds tremendous! He’s always been careful about how he uses his voice. From how open he keeps his mouth. His breath control. All the way to how he stands. He does all this at the age of 64! Also having survived throat cancer!
Tongue cancer. But he is still astonishing.
Bruce suffered throat cancer years ago and still he delivers
They put on the best show.
this guy made my eardrums pop live lol
Keep in mind in the early 2000, Bruce had a battle with throat cancer. Also Bruce did all the piloting on Ed Force One, a 777. I May be wrong on that, but it was a big ass plane😋
“Fear of the Dark” Live in Rio. That is a good one to review.
A Monday reaction!?! Well this bodes well for the rest of the week
Your preoccupation with his pants was hilarious
And this was actually a short version. He normally holds that note of "low" for 15 seconds!
There's a version of this song from 1982 where you can see them in all their youthful power.
I really love your vibes, you're such a funny girl! Keep making videos like this, i love iron maiden🤍
Rime of the ancient mariner flight 666 live.....te recomiendo saludos desde Chile.
And yes, you did see a robot. He's named Eddie.
Hi Eddie!
You are the second reactor I have seen wandering what his pants are made of.
He's never used a in ear. They use the monitors at the front of the stage always.
Hahahah funny you mention it :) I feel the same with Floor and him
IRON MAIDEN is metal.. Probably the most loved and respected band on earth.
