You already answered this in the premiere for me, but it might be worth having in the video for others: I've struggled to find a good chalk pen/pencil, making my pieces get lost in translation a bit from the difficulty marking and the lack of precision. (What kind were you using on the nose minky, if you don't mind sharing?) Since you were using just a black sharpie for the most part, does that mean those are safe to use and won't seep though the fur over time? (Which I had assumed would happen when using markers on fur backing?)
When i use my tape pattern and make the fur, the tape goes on and fits perfectly as it should. However, anytime I sew the fur and stick it on, the fur doesn't fit! It's always too small or at a weird angle even though the pieces line up perfectly with the tape. Why is this, and what can I do?
I have two questions if you don't mind. do you find your glue gun doesn't leak a lot of glue cuz I have a hard time finding one that doesn't 😕 As far as sticking down the fur have you ever used as spray adhesive?
Same, I would really like to make one but I don't know anybody who is doing this and who could help me. Would be so much easier if two people are doing their head next to each other, so they can help each other
no need to be nervous!! As long as you follow directions and do as Sky directs, and make sure to do what works for you, I’m sure it’ll be fine! And remember: practice makes perfect
This is simultaneously making me more scared and less scared to make my fursuit. More scared because it's more complicated than I thought, but less scared because this tutorial is really detailed and I'm able to follow it.
I cannot thank you enough for providing us with these detailed tutorials! You really have a knack for breaking things down and providing great angles to properly see what is going on. Your narration further emphasizes what you are doing and makes things a LOT clearer. I won't be making a suit anytime soon, as I need a dedicated craft room to make things this large, but You are easily the first person I recommend when people ask for fursuit help. You are a treasure and U can't wait to see your next vid!
I’m very late here, but I like how she has headphones on the entire time, weather listening to music or a podcast of some sort I find it interesting that I am not the only one who does so.
Currently following this tutorial for my first fursuit, which is of my fursona Bluemoon, and I'm proud of the way she's turning out. I'm actually almost done with the furring. Thank you for this.
Do you have any tips on making the head lighter? When I made mine it was pretty heavy, could I be using too much glue? Not sure if that makes a difference to the weight.
What mainly makes the difference is the density of the foam~ or the size of the head itself, glue by itself wouldn’t make it overly heavy unless you’re using it excessively
I am not making a fursuit head but I am making dino masks (personal suits) but this video is still very helpful for when I start furring a neck the ears and so on. you're tutorials are very helpful and I watch all of them so I hopefully will become a fursuit maker later in the future.
I just wanted to say this here cause I’m not gonna get hate. I am working on my head right now! I am furring it, so, I get my fur, and realize, “I don’t have a razor” and so I am now hand shaving my fur with some old scissors
I have 2 questions ! 1st is about safety gear, are anti-dust "paper" mask used in woodworking to protect against fine wood dust also ok for shaving ? I see you have a very big boi mask so I wanted to make sure I was using the appropriate equipement XD 2nd, how would you go about gluing the fur of a head featuring a moving jaw ? would sewing like you did to the jaws work as well for a toony moving jaw base ? great tutorial ! I'll be sure to watch it again !
The anti dust masks will be fine :3 I have never personally furred a moving jaw head properly, but I know you have to position the jaw open as you fur so that the fur can sit inside the hinge when it closes provided that’s how it’s patterned, I’m sure the rest of the technique would be fine!
This tutorial is very helpful, thank you! I tried out your technique sewing the lips inside out and it worked perfectly. It looks a little scary and bulky but it tends to de-bulk once everything's sewn into place, glued and shaved :3
Hi!! I'm Dox and I have been studying and taking notes on how to make a fursuit head for more than a few months now. All of this is SO SO helpful for me and I am very thankful for all of this helpful information I have access to. Thank you Skye!
im making a giant long dragon art doll (poseable plushie) and its gonna cost around $500 for making it because its the length of 2 CHILDREN so this is gonna help alot :D
What type of thread should I use? I know that some seams will pop and it's normal, but I don't want the fur to not stay together. I knew a person where they didn't use the right thread, and the back of the ear came off and had exposed foam, and I'm terrified that will happen to me.
Are you using scissors? Because thats probably the issue. You should get an exacto knife and cut the backing of the fur so you dont make it choppy. If you can't get an exacto knife then just be very careful and slow with the scissors, making sure to only cut the backing and avoiding the fur.
Hi skye,I was thinking about making a playlist out of all the fursuit tutorials in this series,so that i can look at em and also that other people get to see em Would ya like that:3
I think I might take the lazy route and avoid trimming mine as much as possible. I’m still in the foam base phase, just looking ahead to see what I can do.
Hey skye! Do you maybe have some tips if someone would be furring a 3D printed hinged jaw fursuit head? I have been looking for a good tutorial so I can fur the head I'm gonna get from Fuzzbutt Fursuits
Hey Girl! You are absolutely genious! I studied fashion design but THIS is something else! Thank you for sharing your knowledge! Is er way to make the inside washable? Im worried about hygieen. Just ordered a head to be able to work on! That was not on your list! 17 euros added so to the costen. It is much more difficult to giving a form to the face area than body forms and you do it so goed. You are the first one i tik on abonomeren! :)
Were do you get your fabric from?? I recently moved to NSW and have no clue where to buy! Love your vids! Ill be making my first suit soon because of you!
Idk if I should be extremely nervous or really excited for this 😭😭 I’m turning a Dino mask into a fursuit head with foam and such and I am really scared to do so 😭😭 wish me luck! 🤞🏻
Ok so I have this fox mask from Walmart I took of the fur and put foam where everything needs to be is it better to sew the seems or glue fur over the seems
i was confused on the part of hand sewing where you attached the mouth area. Were you sewing the jowls onto the foam or back onto the other parts of the fur? You moved so quickly and didn't explain that very well, so i'm lost on what you did there. Other than that, amazing tutorials!
It's likely in the previous part of this tutorial video playlist, but as far as I can tell what happened is that she sewed it onto the inner lining of the mouth that was glued onto the foam in a previous step :>
What confuses me the most is when I’m trying to sew the pieces together with the sewing machine because when i see you do it the final thing comes out rounded but when i do it the final thing comes out flat then it wont go on the base properly so i tried watching a sewing machine tutorial on that but it did not help :/
Hello sky!! I have some questions, I’m making a fursuit head, and I don’t think I can sow anywhere on my base because it’s gonna probably be like a hard base, not a foam base. What else do I do so the fur doesn’t fall off??
Don't know alot of machine types but make sure to get sturdy needles! Leather or denim type needles are usually good for fur since it's made for dense materials! It works with regular needles too but they'll break more often
Will this furring method work for a Kemono/Japanese furry head? I just want to make sure, since the heads are different from the furry head you're using!
I’m making my first fursuit and I need to know when tracing your pattern pieces on to the fur (for the head) should I trace around the pieces exactly or add a little border? (I’m not good with wording sorry if that doesn’t make sense😂)
i want to make paws, is there any good way to make patterned paws, like tabby cat or stripes, i was also wondering hoe to make scars and stuff i wanna do customs
I know you probably won't see this since this video is a little older but I have a question what direction is the fur facing in the bead? Is it facing down or sideways?

What kind of razor do you recommend for shaving the fur..? And how much would a proper one be?
You already answered this in the premiere for me, but it might be worth having in the video for others:

Such a underrated channel! I learnt all my things as a fursuit maker from them, AMAZING.
this is the best furring a fursuit head tutorial i’ve seen! thank you ^w^
Terrified to glue down the fur today 😭 thank you for the videos, they have been so helpful!
im making a giant long dragon art doll (poseable plushie) and its gonna cost around $500 for making it because its the length of 2 CHILDREN so this is gonna help alot :D
Thank god for this, I needed to fur my head since I finished with everything except the attachment of the fur to the foam

nice! i always like seeing your tutorials, furring has always intimidated me
are there any more tips on not cutting the fur accidentally when cutting the pattern? i cut my fur and it looks SO choppy im very sad about it 😭

I will follow your tutorials when i will make my very own fursuit

thank you just what i have been looking for
Love it! Great video Skye! :))
Tysm I needed this! I love when you make tutorials
Also, whats the difference between project and upholstery foam
because project foam is kinda soft...
Upholstery foam is too xD
What about memory foam?

sewing makes it last longer and look better
where can I go to commission a fursuit from you because I am 10 and I want to go to a convention with my friend

About cutting: can you use scissors to cut the fur?
I always use scissors, you just gotta do it carefully and with correct technique

Honestly that sounds like a patterning issue rather than a sewing machine issue
Hm could be, thanks for the feedback!
hi, just wondering-- what is the motivation for using a long, straight stitch? what are the consequences of using this stitch over others?
That head is staring in my soul
This looks SO HARD! I'm starting right now, so wish me luck everybody... I'll edit this once I've Furred the head, and tell y'all how it went.

I think i can do this but the tape patterning makes me scared

i have a question. Does the head heavy?
Hey, im in the process of making a fursuit head myself but im still at the head base but can u hot glue fur together without sewing?? 🤔
Yes, but it will not look good or stay together very well. The seams will be chunky and messy and it will not hold together for long.
What about fabric glue?
Yes, but I HIGHLY recommend not too
The mess/cleanup process is putting me off trying to make one of these.. does anyone have any tips ?

Can i use a helmet as a base 🤔 👀
