Another example of using the ramps on the tow vehicle and a standard 16 foot car trailer. Same lowered C5 Corvette. ruclips.net/video/f_NaN9ISSak/видео.html
Good tip with the ramps on the truck. That really helps. One thing, when driving the car up the ramps, always put blocks under the rear frame of the trailer, that way your trailer won't flip up if the hitch slips off the ball. Cheers.
Thank you Pete. A good quality car trailer should have a coupler that is rated for loading or lifting loads unlike a standard coupler you would find on a utility trailer or most RVs. I do occasionally see a car trailer that has crank down jacks each side at the rear by the ramps. No where in the U Haul instructions does it say to shore up the rear of the trailer. Which if needed would be a huge liability for them. I get what you are saying though and if the situation warranted it by all means.
I would have never guessed using the ramps. We ended up chocking the trailer wheels with concrete blocks and the hitch as high as we could get it. Of course it moved around some. I had to then use cut fence boards that were on the metal ramps for clearance. Your way is the best!
Thank you JD. The ramps are the way to go when you need maximum break over clearance. Getting ready to load a car on my buddies regular car trailer this morning. Thankfully it won't be as much of a pain as a Corvette.
About to haul my C5 on a uhaul trailer down to Florida soon. You have some great tips here! I didnt think about the ramps under the back of the truck. Will be using that tip for sure! Thanks!
Just loaded a lowered Z06 and the car ramps worked amazing. I removed the 2 bolts on each tire flaps during loading the put the back on after it was loaded. Did the same when unloading.
I know you had to drop that drivers side guard to get out great video & my c5 sits lower then yours I have to do this tomorrow for a car show thanks 💯😎✌️
Hopefully all went well? I now have my own car trailer that has a dovetailed deck and custom fenders that are so low even the corvette door can open without having to do anything extra.
You are very welcome Marlo. Man, I just watched this video again and I am reminded why I switched over to real video editing software. This video should have been 4 minutes long lol. Thanks for the view and I hope your trip goes as well as ours did. I wouldn't hesitate again to use the uhaul with this car and another 250 mile trip.
MRBLACK947 Finally got around to loading up my Cobra, thanks to a refreshment watch of this video, your techniques worked/helped like a charm! Thanks again! I built similar wood blocks like yours and used some at the front of the trailer as well to clear the lower chin spoiler my car has up front. Zero rubbing issues!!
Thank you for the video! I will be hauling my Audi on a U-Hual for the first time and was worried about getting it up there. Just went and picked up some ramps to pull the rear of my suburban onto!
Dyno is done. More videos to come. She goes without saying runs and drives so much better. The uhaul car trailer in and of itself is a fantastic design but I couldn't imagine spending what they want for a 35 year old trailer. If I win the lottery I barely play I will buy and all aluminum car trailer with a low deck and a dovetail at that.
Back at the time I filmed this is was just under 100 bucks per day at Uhaul. There is also a fee for returning trailer to a different location or one way trip but I do NOT know what that costs. Good luck!
Can you help me. I'm trying to decide between an open and closed trailer. Other Porsche owners are telling me an open trailer will lead to tons of rock chips and damage to the paint. Are they over-reacting? Putting the truck up on ramps REALLY impressed me. So I'm guessing you have all kinds of knowledge. Isn't it a lot hard to drive a car into an enclosed trailer too?
Depending on the open trailer that can be the case with rock chips. They do make open trailers with a wall at the front for both aerodynamics and to protect the car. Enclosed can be a pain the ass. Usually end up climbing out the window if there's no hatch out the back. They do now make enclosed trailers that have a door built in the drivers side wall of the trailer. That type of enclosed trailer is very expensive though.
That might be true for the current day but there are older trailers that are out there for sale on auction sites. What year cutoff that might be I don't know. Most I see for sale are from the 90s.
This may be a dumb question, but how'd you get out of the car? I just loaded mine and climbed through the window. But can't close the window now obviously
Antonio on the uhaul trailers the left hand fender folds out giving enough clearance to open and close the door. If using a standard car trailer with a fixed fender a lot of people go through the hatch. Depending on the model of car though that may not work.
@@PNW_Car_Mods wow I feel dumb now lol. You are a life saver sir! I was able to fold it down and roll up my window. Thank you so much for the quick reply!

U Haul trailers have a fold down left fender and it works very well. On a standard car trailer you have almost no choice but to climb through the hatch or an open window.
@@scottknight1301 I can't think of any reason why not. Check this one out as well. A much simpler load on a standard trailer I did earlier this year. ruclips.net/video/f_NaN9ISSak/видео.html

No problem at all. I think the surge brakes work fine. To be fair though I was pulling with an 8600 pound F 350 Diesel. I would have no concerns with pulling it with our Jeep Gladiator.

Extremely helpful video guys. I just loaded my neighbors c5 and I used this video as a reference....Thanks again....worked like a charm😊

Meblack947. How was it getting it on the trailer from that pitch did you have to raise the rear of the truck like he did with the ramps?
Awesome video, very helpful. Picking up my C5 Z06 tomorrow. Your car sounds and looks amazing.

That should do the trick Chad. Watch your front valance as you get to the front tire stops. :)
Thanks for taking the time making this
Glad it was helpful! I'm surprised at how many people have watched it.
Thanks for posting. I guess those ramps are rated to support the back of the truck and the tongue weight?
Good idea to always double check capacites. Those old ramps were rated at 3 tons. Not a problem in this case.
I almost bought as used uhaul trailer....kinda glad I didn't now, lol. In for the dyno numbers brother.

UHaul doesn’t sell used trailers. They use them for parts and scrap them. So if you see one for sale its stolen
