It is in immaculate condition! I really appreciate all you had to say about the C5. I hope to somehow have the honor of meeting you some day and expressing my gratitude and just having the honor too of shaking your hand. I’m currently looking at possibly buying a C5. This video may have sealed the deal lol. Probably the best bang for buck out there for an all around performance car. I’ve owned many GM performance cars from the ‘70’s to date. Never bought a corvette due to children and needing those extra seats! It has been mostly Firebirds and Camaro’s thus far. I think it may be time for that first two seater😉.

    I can tell that Jay loves his C5 as much as I love mine. I bought the last production year of the C5 in 2004 and the car has been flawless. When I first drove it after it was delivered to the dealer from the factory, in April 2004, the acceleration when passing reminded me of my 2001 Suzuki GSF-1200S, The Z51 package that I ordered as an option had the faster accelerating 3.17 rear end ratio, and it was amazing. You just "think" about passing a car in front of you and you're already around it. It was and is a terrific performance car. The fit and finish are superb, and the Machine Silver paint is still beautiful. Thank You Jay for your C5 video.

    • @wavnino1
      @wavnino1 3 года назад +3

      @@Studeb I'm sure I probably wont say anything different then what Jay has said about the C5. The C6 is a fun car to drive and its nimble. I drove a '08 nothing too spectacular. Going from the C5 to C6 it gets a bit tighter, Leg room and cargo space. The C6 is slightly smaller than its predecessor but without a doubt it delivers fantastic power for the price in modern day standards if were talking BHP, even a base C6. The C7 is pretty cool. I wasn't a fan at first but it grew on me. It's the most snug outta the 3. It definitely feels more compact if you're tall like me, the cockpit can feel pretty tight and I haven't drove it on long trips for that reason. When lane changing, looking over my shoulder There was also a blindspot with the Pillar in the C7 as well. But the different driving modes are very fun and enjoyable and on the track if thats your thing. There were times when I would just be on the freeway just fooling with the different modes. Track mode sounds awesome. The interior is a huge upgrade from the C6 (sport seats), The infotainment system is pretty nice the stash compartment is real cool to have. I feel that is the last good Vette if compared to the C8. The C8 design still hasn't grown on me and even seeing it up close and personal I don't think my mind will be changed. Even tho I personally like the C6 more, even with the undesirable interior (dash, the pointless one cup holder) The C5 just has a special charm to it that people gravitate towards. Rather than the C6 and C7, I've received more attention and engaged in more conversation (plenty of times where I didn't want to lol) all when driving the C5 which is mind boggling to me. Its quick and nimble if you've add some minor suspension to it (Z51). It's reliable, gas mileage is superb as you know, especially in this day and age with gas going up. Its actually pretty comfortable with the sport seats, leg room, head space, spacious; very good cargo room as well. There were times I use to actually go grocery shopping in that car. It feels light and all around a blast to drive. All in all, It's a beauty. Theres just something majestic about those pop-up lights and the curvaceous body. The C5 is a classic but you really can't go wrong with either of the 3. It all depends what you're looking for.

      Yeah if I had to have an automatic I'd go with the C6. They had a 6 speed that was quite durable. The 4 speed the C5 got was a relic going way back to the early 80s and they were coupled with mileage friendly rear gears.
      Only way I'd do a C5 auto is if I was building a drag strip missile and even then you would need to make the 4l60 stouter.

      Yes the instrument cluster is so gorgeous and functional when you see it in person. The tach and speedo are actually slightly raised from the cluster plane so there is a 3D effect. It is striking and you don't expect that kind of attention to detail when you first enter the vehicle (maybe because you notice the corporate head unit first).

    Corvettes are an incredible bargains for the most part. Even the new C8 which isn't cheap by most peoples standards but compared to the exotic imports they are a relative bargains. You have to spend 2x or more to get anything close in performance. The beauty of a corvette is that they get good gas mileage if you aren't crazy with them, they last for hundreds of thousands of miles if you maintain them, the cost of maintenance and repairs is way less than the imports. Talk to people who have or have had Ferrari's, Lambos etc and see how reliable those are. They break all the time and cost a ton to repair. A Corvette you can drive everyday like a family sedan and have no issues. Another beautiful thing is there's pretty much a Corvette for every budget. For those with lots of money to spend you can pay $100k for a new C8 or hundreds of thousands for a super rare C2 or an L88 etc but you can get used C4,5, or 6 cars that are really good very useable cars for really good prices as long as you know a little bit about what to look for. The C4 isn't quite as refined as the C5 and later but its a really good car especially the 1992-96 cars and you can get a really nice one for 10k. If your handy you can get one for 5k and 15k buys a low mileage really good condition C4 that you could drive for decades. The C5/6 cars for 15-30K you can get an excellent car and pretty much any car is just a cool car!! That would explain why a guy like Jay that can buy any car he wants would want a C5, because they are cool and a blast to drive!! Thanks Jay, love the show!
