Our(Edmund's)2018 Honda Accord EX-L stickered for $30,865, including destination. Over the course of a year, we added 13,302 miles to our odometer. In this condition, the Edmunds TMV Calculator valued the Accord at $23,815 based on a private-party sale.
That works out to 22.8% depreciation, which is slightly worse than the fleet average of 22% average. The depreciation level is even worse when you consider that the majority of our cars pass the 20,000-mile mark. Edmund's longterm Accord

I think the Accord has a really nice look to it. They always catch my eye in traffic, especially because I'm always checking to see if it's a 2.0 lol. But what helped make the move to a GLI instead of an accord is also the fact that more people have Accords, owning a car and being the only one of it's kind sitting at a red light makes it feel more special, oppose to being at a red light and having the same car as an elderly couple and a stressed out mom with 2 crying kids in the back seat.

@Steven Soco actually "piped in" is the incorrect term here. I don't think most people would have an issue with cabin design that facilitates hearing the true engine and exhaust notes (and some way of controlling the volume of that). This is not that, though. The VAG Soudaktor is essentially a speaker that creates its own frequencies independent from the engine and exhaust directly within the cabin itself.
While this sounds ridiculous on the surface, it's really not as bad as it's been made out to be, and as pointed out, can be user controlled. Hardly the end of days.

I have the same model/color combination. The still night pearl paint gets lots of compliments. I've had it for over a year(11k problem free miles) and I love it. I agree that it has enough power to get into trouble. But I was curious and found a used flashpro on ebay for $400 so I have been running a hondata tune for the last 6k without any issues. I ran stage 1 for 3k, and currently run stage 2 with tc(so fun), but i leave it in eco(stock tune) 95% of the time. Stage 2 is definitely overkill when i'm hauling my kids around city streets. Because I find it relatively easy to break the tires loose, a will get some more aggressive tires in the future.

So I have had my 35th Anniversary GLI for three months now and it has been brilliant. Wonderful driver's car that is affordable enough to still be able to gas her up and yes at over 6000 miles on the odometer I am also getting about 31 mpg. However I do feel the DCC or adaptive dampeners on my version really dose improve the handling a shocking amount. Yes that fake engine and overly quiet exhaust sound is very disappointing so much so that I had a local muffler shop hack off my resonator and the two small mufflers and had them replaced with a single glasspack in the resonator location. Now she sounds about perfect, just a wee bit more than a stock GTI or Golf R in open mode. Plus considering the $1600 lower price than a GTI at all trim levels this was the much more affordable performance option for me. I do plan to start posting ownership and autocross videos very soon. Now that I have been leasing an S trim for 16 months and also have been enjoying my new GLI so much I think VW might have a lifetime customer here. Great review as always guys! Thank you...

A loud engine and exhaust is actually a sign of inefficiency, sound escaping loss of power.
But if you think about it, manufacturers want to present a quality quiet cabin. All the harmonic testing, wind tunnel and sound proofing is to reduce external noise. I get it some people like to hear this but most buyers are going to shy away from vehicles that when they make a phone call they have to yell for the other person to hear them.

Really like the GLI. Test drive both the manual and DSG last weekend and honestly it would be a hard choice between the 2. I do like the wheels that come on the 35th anniversary edition as I think they give they car a more aggressive look but I just wonder if in 5 years they would look dated. Also like the pure gray color. Very Audi Nardo gray like. Hard to pass on the price as well. I can get the autobahn trim for around 29k US. To get a GTI with similar features it would run around 35-36k. At that point you might as well pony up and get the Golf R.

Its a big comfy daily that just happens to have some quickness around town and back roads. I typically find VW's way more fun to drive. Here's the last thing..... Reliability for me has been much better with Honda's i've owned vs VW's, if you plan on keeping your car for a while go Honda if you want more fun go VW, and maybe you will get lucky and not have any issues.
