    I have two pieces of advice, if you don't mind, the first one: you'd better not to use a long extension with the torque wrench, that's could affect on the accuracy negatively; use as short as possible. Secondly, you should not use an RTV with this kind of gasket (the rubber one) you have to put a small amount of it ONLY in two spots where the engine head meets the timing cover. Thank you for your time to read my comment and special thanks for you video.

    It was easier for to take off the left hose from the bottom and just keep it on the cover!

    Great Video! Few suggestions
    1. Use magnetic socket driver so you don't drop screws!(experience speaks :) )
    2. Old plastic clips on coil packs break easy. If it happens make sure you reconnect them firmly.
    3. Same with coil pack bolts don't try to force them lose. One on my car snapped causing big headache to fix it :)
    4. RTV only needs to be applied in two spots near chain cover side joint.
    5. ignition wire harness as well as wire harness on chain side can be pulled back out of the way with elastic ties so you can remove / install cover by yourself.
    6. torque 10 ft lbs on two center bolts, 8 ft lbs on peripheral bolts and two nuts,
    7. in some cases two Wire harness on chain side has plastic clips that slide off from their mounts this saves time and makes removal/ installation easier.

    • @NativelyBornAmerican
      @NativelyBornAmerican 3 года назад

      Great comments, especially about the RTV! What's the point of the gasket if you're just going to paint the whole with with RTV? Only need a dab at the chain area, if any at all.
      I would also add that you should not torque the bolts all the way at once, but work your way out at 5-6 ft-lbs and then go back to finish them to spec.

    Well to be perfectly honest, in my humble opinion, of course without offending anyone who thinks differently from my point of view, but also by looking into this matter in a different perspective and without being condemning of one's view's and by trying to make it objectified, and by considering each and every one's valid opinion, I honestly believe that I completely forgot what I was going to say.

    6:24 the hose on my '08 started to crumble just from me coming near it with a screwdriver. so i instead used a 22mm (or 7/8") wrench to remove the PCV from the rocker cover with the hose still attached. easy. pinch the hose lightly with some pliers to stop it from twising off since it's likely "frozen" to the PCV output stem.

    Part number for my 2003 Camry is FelPro VS50530R. I replaced the original after 16 years and 202k miles. The wiring harnesses on both ends really get in the way. The gasket around the plugs had hardened and stuck to the head. If you squeeze each round part with small channel locks it easily shatters, and the pieces are sharp enough to cut you. The left end had failed and was squirting oil on the alternator. Good for another 200k.

    Recently my car started smoking somewhere from the Engine, I dont know where it is coming from but I have noticed the oil leaking from the gasket cover just like in the video? The smoke is white and it happens after driving a bit. I left my car running but no smoke it seems to happen after driving and it is coming from the hood of the car. Is it the gasket cover that needs to be replaced?

    • @BeeHind
      @BeeHind 3 года назад

      If it smokes while driving but not while parked, that signifies a gasket that needs to be replaced. When your car is parked, oil isn't able to be splashed around inside of that valve cover, and thus leak out and onto the manifold which would cause the smoking. Hope you got this resolved.

      It should fix the problem. If the spark plug well is half engine head and half valve cover then the gasket in between might have failed.
      Thank you so much for you appreciation.
      Note: If engine oil is changed after a long time, then the gasket hardens up and starts leaking. That was the reason for this valve cover gasket to fail.

      the PCV valve is located on the left side back. in this video at around 6mins they start taking the hose off of the PCV. that hose connects to the PCV valve. the valve is about 22mm so get a long socket. if oil is being consumed too quickly in this 2.4L then definitely should replace the PCV valve and the gasket together.

    My 08 camry got oil in two of the spark plug wells. Its the ones on the drivers side. My question is can it just be a gasket problem or do I need to change the actual valve cover itself. It looks like one of the wells might have a hole in the metal that's above my spark plug. So I'm wondering if I should order a new valve cover ( not just the gasket). They cost around $50 on ebay. 2.2 liter 2001 Camry valve cover gaskets in my humbling experience can use a good bead around the head..that finally stopped the leaks after the second installation. the design is faulty in my opinion because of the cam towers and leak areas prone to no silicone.
