    Yes totally agree, I was fitted for Mizuno 923 only bought 7-PW but use as 6-9 iron & added 48 deg wedge. I already had Ping 4&5 hybrids and 5 wood (set as 4W) and 7 wood, works great covering everything from 160-220 yards with great descent angles. So easy to hit and great for recovering my botched drives.

    Never had a real modern fairway wood, until my STZ 230 started to outperform my previous driver. Decided to go for a 5 wood st max because I felt really insecure whether I could hit it properly. Well, to all other potential buyers: do not worry, this thing has you covered. Dialed it back 1 degree to 17 for a better ball flight and to encourage me to fade it. So far it's the tee shots that were really impressive

      Going somewhere to get honestly fitted with an unbiased golfers first approach not sales is difficult to say the least. Try to go somewhere where there is a paid for fitting and preferably non refundable if any sales are made it at least gives hope that the sales made isn't profit driven and is more likely to be golfer driven. We live in hope that the money from the fitting paid goes to the fitters wages rather than the fitter being incentivised from commission on the sale also.
      Money is a terrible thing sometimes 👍🏻

      @The-OC I used to do only that, full time Coaching and Custom Fitting, but have stepped back since moving to RUclips full time. Also I need a facility (where I was previously has since closed due to housing development) where they value choice and give as many options as possible for the golfer to try.
      I have thought about trying to vet places around the UK to give the many requests I get for fitting, places to go that will look after them the right way..... Unfortunately shall I say its seemingly extremely difficult to find places which don't confuse fitting with profit 😕👍🏻

    Great content once again Jay. With your swing and ball striking ability I think you could still play a 2 iron!! I’ve settled on a 3w at 14.5 a 7w at 20.5 and 3 hybrid turned down 1 degree to 18 ( guess the manufacture!?). The hybrid is a fairway chaser in dry/windy conditions and my go to on dodgy lies which I get plenty of. I also love it having a shorter shaft. Some decisions at the top end of the bag are better made out on the course on grass and different lies I believe. It’s a confidence thing more than anything else. Mizuno are knocking out some great fairway woods no doubt. Keep up the great work mate!

    I play a 7 wood instead of a lower lofted hybrid. Works super well onto greens. Only downside is the distance loss in the wind.

  • @Pud56
    @Pud56 5 месяцев назад

    Great video, i carry a 3 hybrid and a 7 wood turned down 1.5 effectively to a 6 wood. They play the same distance but completely different flight, as i play a windy and hilly downland golf course, uphill 7 wood is fantastic, into the wind, 3 hybrid works great, as i have the space in my bag, both clubs serve a purpose. Lies in the rough and semi, both give me different options, so dependent on lie, and ground to be covered determines my club choice. Know your limitations with the clubs you carry, duplicated distance isn’t the full story.

    • @AskGolfNut
      @AskGolfNut  5 месяцев назад +1

      If you trust the fitting then I would wait til your clubs come in. Then go for a session where you hit your driver full warmed up so you can get a baseline distance, then hit your longest iron to see how large the gap is to fill, as always you are looking to fill the gap with as little clubs as possible for sensible and useful loft/distance gaps.... Remember that distance gaps can be bigger at the top of the bag and slightly less in the irons to wedges as you'll want much more distance control in the scoring side of the bag 👍🏻👍🏻

    I'm testing out an old school 7w, 9w, 11w just to see if there's a possibility of changing over. But straight away I'm loving the height and the stopping power. Much better for us old timers than anything more than a 6i. I'm thinking there might be a reason to stop selling sets of 4/5i to W in the future and order 7 to GW as standard makeup.

      With the 7wd, have you played around with ball position to counteract the draw flight?

    • @AskGolfNut
      @AskGolfNut  5 месяцев назад +1

      The X is designed to be slightly draw biased or atleast add a little draw curvature (tilt axis) to mainly help the guys that fade their woods. I would say that moving to the Max Woods, they are much more neutral in the bias and more forgiving as well. If you like to play 7 woods and you find the draw biased X going too far left, then the Max will be a much better fit 👍

    • @AskGolfNut
      @AskGolfNut  5 месяцев назад +1

      I would absolutely suggest going to a Mizuno Fitter that utilises the Swing DNA Analyser, its a wonderful tool that cuts down the optimal shaft selection time hugely. All golfers load in transition differently so will need different bend profiles to maximise flight and consistency 👍

  • @trebledawson
    @trebledawson 5 месяцев назад

    I'm surprised you didn't note that your (mild) lefts were likely caused by the face being closed. You said that you increased the lofts to as high as they can go, which will shut the face by as many degrees. So if you add 2 degrees of loft then you will be draw biased.

    • @AskGolfNut
      @AskGolfNut  5 месяцев назад

      The mild lefts were predictable and also as you say quite mild for the distance, easily overcome with a touch of aim difference.
      Generally a miss with my current woods means a right miss which is bigger than the left miss with these, so on balance I'd be gaining 👍🏻

      Personally indifferent, but these are designed to run along side them to give the golfer who is looking for forgiveness as their primary reasoning, a different option that just going straight to a Ping who have always been known as the kings of forgiveness due to their heavier head design and counterbalanced shafts to offset the design 👍

    • @AskGolfNut
      @AskGolfNut  5 месяцев назад

      Transition earlier with higher lofted hybrids and fairway woods. For every golfer its only a matter or time before the transition has to happen, generally for all golfers they leave it too late. I don;t use a 4 iron and use a 4 hybrid so most golfers could quite easily transition earlier for a much more functional flight 👍

      The Max was always going to be a 1 year life cycle club as it was released to fill a hole in the range of the 2 year life cycle ST230 series.
      Commonly with only 6 months now left some pro shops and accounts are concerned that with the coming months of darkness and less playing time what autum/winter brings, it's time to slim down the stock holding of a lot of items.
      Summer sales are quite usual, although this is normally only for shop stock and not for Custom orders... Shop stock is wallpaper so should stay on the shelf for as long as possible before being moved on at a discount. 👍🏻
