UPDATE: Twitch has stated they are changing their brand guidelines and removed Section 2 that I covered in this video. HOWEVER, they have not walked back exclusivity or simulcasting exclusivity. I tweet about this here: twitter.com/DevinNash/status/1666563595897847810 . Thus nearly everything in this video is STILL relevant and we should not take Twitch at face value until they update their Terms of Service and walk back simulcasting changes for all streamers. I believe this video outlines the true intentions and executive thinking at Twitch so I'm going to keep it running. I've received a ton of support for this video and it means the world. I can't thank you enough for being here.
They did quick because they just wanted to test the "level of inteligence" of actual streamers... they will keep doing it in the future, at the end of the day its their owon company, not ours, im glad people like you didnt stayed silence and fougth... although its more than sure people like you is already blacklisted for them, anyways, thank you bro.
Thanks to someone else I just noticed the "no simulcasting for y'all" update. What f*ckfaces. I'll just won't give a f*ck, don't let Louis Rossmann hear this.😂
I listened to you years ago and voted with my feet. Best decision I ever made for my career as a content creator. Life changing for me even. And I'm just getting started.
This setup Twitch wants to have reminds me of how Ticketmaster and LiveNation have basically monopolized concerts and other live events. Where they are the "one stop shop" for anything that happens on Twitch and if you want to stream they're get a cut. Only problem is that, unlike big events that have to book a stadium, it's internet streaming where content creators and agencies can just go somewhere else.
20 minutes. You're a legend in this industry. As someone who used to work in the advertising industry I love how you solidify my view on what's happening but also expand my understanding as well!
With the streaming exclusivity to only twitch, ad incentive contracts for hours and now the control over sponsoring. Twitch must be really careful to not become an actual employer for those streamers, especially in Europe they run the risk that streamers could be declared de-facto employees with all the protection that comes with that.
The plan is to not focus on streamers. The plan is to sign more TV. WWE was signed 24 hours before the new rules were made. Streaming is done on Twitch.
This video was just shotgun blast after shotgun blast of truth. Even though this is a public video, it's stuff like this that makes me happy to be a patron
thank you, man. i walked from twitch about a year ago after seeing a couple of your videos and am now trying to start things up on youtube. i appreciate you and your work for saving me from bs that would have sapped any and all energy i had. i still have friends on twitch and i worry about them constantly. they're small creators who deserve better than what twitch could ever deign to put down for them. i can only hope my friends realise their worth sooner rather than later.
Admission: My frustration surrounding Twitch was removed, then replaced by an even bigger frustration :) I'm only at the 20 minute mark, and feel like punchiong a monitor, as most of the things mentioned in this video directly pertain to me. I'm not just a streamer, but a professional content and marketing creator. Have multiple irons in the fire for creating custom built-in burnt-in ads Sheesh Tri-fecta of things going bad. [40:00] I've now replaced the 20 minute mark frustration with the 40 minute mark frustration. Here's a summary as to why: A) Affiliate streamer just coming back after a few years away due to pandemic. B) Professional Multimedia content creator built in ads etc are my thing :) C) Twitch has always been the worst site to build brand recognition, but only reason for being there is the recent Diablo Launch. D) . . . .too many to list here
37:18 I'd love to see you do more interviews with people. The Amouranth livestream here was really good. Discussions about these topics are exciting and adding new voices into the conversation helps us maintain a clearer picture of the trash heap in front of us.
Question: Does this concern, like the multistreaming topic, only affiliates and partners? And: I want to thank you for all your advice in the past. Helped me growing a lot, especially: 1. Don't sell out for pocket money (being affiliate/partner) and 2. do multistreaming/rech out for different platforms. Helped me grow a lot! And also corresponds with my personal annoyance to advertising and don't want to people bother with it. Concerning Twitch and the ads: Despite that I despise ads, I think if you use a service it's the providers right to demand a share of the revenue you make. Simply because: They have cost, they make your success on their platform possible. Without their ecosystem you'd make less or even nothing at all. I always wondered why a platform tolerates burned in ads, because it's just a way to cut out the service provider. And spam viewers with ads they could not consent to. My personal opinion about the crying creators: Like before the majority of them will complain - and continue. Like so many times before. Because, like you described, they always wait for it to come, but never prepare to make the move. Therefore not making the move and just giving in.
@@Raletia I just wanted to ask: "Why?", but googled myself that Twitch indeed slipped below the radar since 5-31-2023 into its ToS that it forbids multistreaming (or how Twitch likes to call it: simulcasting) on Twitch-like platforms. Just lol.
Devin, I think it has to be said that you're an incredible beacon for the industry. Talking about change is one thing, but your actions line up and far excede the message. It's great to see.
20 Min - OG & also a Small streamer that has already been struggling to survive for 9 years just to keep my stream going. Even tougher when your partially disabled like I am. Thanks for clearing this up, its like every other day its making it a tougher mountain to climb just to break even. ❤🤘
Became a RUclips Partner 2 weeks ago after leaving Twitch in September 2022. Glad to have listened your advice to migrate to a more "stable" platform for the long-haul.
Ayo 20 min mark! Real talk it hurts when you see that twitch still has a really strong community focus in smaller circles compared to other platforms. But I think it would be rad to see someone like yourself take over the platform. It would be a monumental task and mountain of money, but to have a creator who’s passionate about the content and platform would be amazing!
As a small ex-Twitch Streamer now moving to YT, I'm glad I've made my decision to quit Twitch and move over to YT. This just helps to explain what's going on beyond just "TOS is screwed for everyone sans Twitch staff". Thanks for making this!
I'm going to pull the plug on Twitch. Was multi-streaming on there and other platforms. Thinking always was, well if I build a good community then I can go exclusive on Twitch. But now, even if I ended up drawing an audience, I don't know if I would want to bank on Twitch. Could I go full time with confidence on Twitch? No. So any way you slice it, it's a waste of my time to continue to try on that platform. Thank you as always for your insight and clarity!
The termination fee used to be for inactive accounts that were booted from the Affiliate program for inactivity, but the new language allows it to be applied when either party terminates the agreement, which would mean they take the money if you get banned or demonetized. All they need now is a right to monetize ala RUclips and slap uncontrollable prerolls and midrolls on non-Affiliate streams and they now have a reason to demonetize smaller creators. I interpret all of these changes as setting the stage for a shakeout. Twitch will be up against shakeout forces in the market so crap rolls downhill. They'll take it out on smaller streamers with less ROI in the hopes that smaller streamers quit and their resources can support the remaining big streamers. By the way, all these negative changes are pointed at creators. Twitch doesn't have a problem at all from a viewer perspective. C'est La Vie with this online media crap. 🙂
20 minutes on my pc at work. I love your deep indepth content. I got an ad for Tiktok and remember how much I hate short form content and Basketball was right. Peoples attention span has shrunk to below a gnat... off topic sorry. Thanks for the video!
20 minute mark: I love this type of content. Shame that the only way to make content is to act as a digital advertising board, content has to be tied to a product or service or it’s not gonna occur longterm or to a high standard.
Not true, some people are happy to just put out stuff and get paid by fans directly, maybe with one or two middlemen like patreon or a merch store, but money is too tempting
20:00 You continue to have the best videos breaking down these things with Twitch, eSports, etc. Always nice to get great insight from someone who knows the business.
20 minutes mark. I watch your videos to know what there terms are on Twitch. I did try reading them bud I get confused and have no clue. So you are educating me.

20 min. and I was there till the very end of the video. As a small streamer, this was important for me to know so I was genuinely interested in hearing everything about this topic! Good job covering it all, Devin!
I was waiting for this! I recently made the decision to start multi streaming and did my first one across RUclips / Twitch / Kick / Facebook. Devin’s “hot dog stand” analogy in an earlier video inspired me. Thank you as always for your insight Devin. Glad someone like you exists in the space. Btw 20 mins
“Hey what’s your opinion on the recent Twitch changes?” “Oh I’m just waiting on Devin Nash to do a video on it so I can be well informed without having to research it myself, ask me again tomorrow.”
20 min mark reaches. Thanks for this, makes a lot of sense. I found myself wondering what the big deal was, but i don't tend to watch streamers who have these kind of sponsorships. I also wondered what Twitch's end goal is, and it seems so obvious now that they just want advertisers to go to them, and not the streamers. EDIT: The termination fee used to be $40. So yeah, nothing new.
Twitch's track record for shady changes for the last few years is the main thing that is making Twitch unviable as a place to do buisniss. RUclips has it's downsides but it has been improving the streaming scene and the burn in ads thing google allows you to use them if the video is of your own making not given to you by a sponsor. (If Twitch wants to be competitive they should copy that and not ban outright)
I feel this is so dumb at first my whole reason for not being an affiliate was because I dual steam writing sprints. I'm so glad I'm not monetarily tied to them at all and going to work even more on my streaming channel here.
Thanks Devon, Waa apart of 20 gang and got to the end granted 2x speed was my friend. I've been trying to grow my brand elsewhere since I first started watching you years ago and been struggling and in the interim the twitch stream continues to get better. Maybe I'm doing something wrong?
I thought the Simulcast thing deserves Antitrust/competition law regulator attention maybe from the EU over the Digital Markets Act; as much as I don't like government getting involved. They did when Apple tried to say that app businesses can't link up with customers off platform.. Now you have Twitch as an app developer trying to say businesses can't distribute through other platforms to list on their site. Even Amazon's 3rd party sellers program is not able to pass that kind of thing legally
not just twitch either, its everywhere. youtube, facebook, twitter, just all social media right now is doing their best to control us and make us watch what THEY want us to watch.
really appreciate these videos, glad I found you Mr. Masaru. Even if Twitch goes down because they can't make a profit you still make great informational content on other stuff.
Bro, my first time seeing your vids and I’m glad I watched past the 20 minutes. Thanks for breaking it down as well as I was hoping. Thanks again for looking out.
Twitch needs to help all the small streamers that average 0 viewers which they haven’t done and all they been doing is just trying to make them money but they clearly don’t care about their streamers working there a** off for x amount of hours and Thank you for making this video and making all the changes they did more understanding . 20:14 still here
retracted already. Another case of massive overreach and immediate backtrack. i hate american e-corporations. " Here is how platforms die: first, they are good to their users; then they abuse their users to make things better for their business customers; finally, they abuse those business customers to claw back all the value for themselves. Then, they die. ... This is enshittification: surpluses are first directed to users; then, once they're locked in, surpluses go to suppliers; then once they're locked in, the surplus is handed to shareholders and the platform becomes a useless pile of shit. From mobile app stores to Steam, from Facebook to Twitter, this is the enshittification lifecycle." I've been forced to watch my favorite streamers on odysee for ages now thanks to post-2014 TDR and leftie censorship - i'm ready for twitch to die. Great video, even if it was longer than 20 minutes
I think this just convinced me to vote with my feet. I am not a big or even good content creator yet, but having Witch's decisions put in this light made me realize it was foolish to stay to begin with.
20 min here. BTW Streamers can still put ads in their room ( in the background) that isn't added on your streaming software directly like pillow of Logitech etc. which is funny. Creativity ftw.

Even Amazon's 3rd party sellers program is not able to pass that kind of thing legally
20 mins in. Great job keeping us all informed!! Legend!
I don't always watch Devin Nash videos, but when I do, they're extremely informative. Thank you once again, Devin.
i love to see how passionate you are about how much twitch doesn't care abt the creators. people cant get it thru their heads
Watched every second of this video including the 20 min mark. Devin the GOAT
20 min mark - thank you for breaking down all this very helpful.
20 minute mark Andy for me! Great video man!
20:14 still here on the second playthrough!! Thank you for giving a breakdown of events :)
we need another "Future of Livestreaming" video! Seems like the landscape is shifting constantly (or at least trying to shift)
not just twitch either, its everywhere. youtube, facebook, twitter, just all social media right now is doing their best to control us and make us watch what THEY want us to watch.
really appreciate these videos, glad I found you Mr. Masaru. Even if Twitch goes down because they can't make a profit you still make great informational content on other stuff.
Bro, my first time seeing your vids and I’m glad I watched past the 20 minutes. Thanks for breaking it down as well as I was hoping. Thanks again for looking out.
20 minutes still here. I saw this come up on Twitch yesterday. I though I am not reading this, will just wait for the Devin video on it. Thanks!
Vote with your feet and watching/listening to this video for the full 41:10 ! Thanks for sharing your knowledge as always!
Wow, there's a lot more to this than what most creators were talking about. Thanks for the insight!
20 minutes in and learning so much!! cheerz Dev my dude!!!
Twitch needs to help all the small streamers that average 0 viewers which they haven’t done and all they been doing is just trying to make them money but they clearly don’t care about their streamers working there a** off for x amount of hours and Thank you for making this video and making all the changes they did more understanding . 20:14 still here
20:00 I'm still here! Thanks for the dope video dude.
20: very insightful video boss
I'm so excited I've been waiting for your video on this
20 minutes, still here. I also swapped my streaming software to stream here this morning.
As soon as I saw Twitch's announcement, I thought, "wow, can't wait for minute 20:00 of the Devin Nash video."
20 mins. Thanks for the upload devin. 👏
20:00 been refreshing RUclips all day to see if you published
20 minutes, still here and definitely glad to see the breakdown of what's happening even more
retracted already.
From mobile app stores to Steam, from Facebook to Twitter, this is the enshittification lifecycle."
I've been forced to watch my favorite streamers on odysee for ages now thanks to post-2014 TDR and leftie censorship - i'm ready for twitch to die.
Great video, even if it was longer than 20 minutes
20:10 still here baby, great work as always
Another great video Devin, thanks.
20 minutes still here. Really helpful breakdown of the subject.
20min gang! :) LOVE the content man! Keep it up!
Still here at the 20 min mark and always appreciate your approach to these things
so if you watch a YT video with stream (like this one) and the quick ad before video shows. Tech that's a no no?
I think this just convinced me to vote with my feet. I am not a big or even good content creator yet, but having Witch's decisions put in this light made me realize it was foolish to stay to begin with.
20 min here. BTW Streamers can still put ads in their room ( in the background) that isn't added on your streaming software directly like pillow of Logitech etc. which is funny. Creativity ftw.
20 mins, still here. Thank you.
20 min mark, Thank you for doing these videos!
20 mins, I'm still here ^^ " Thanks for the content, buddy. You're the best!
20 minute mark, as always love how clear you make all these things!
my first thought when this news broke - the Devin Nash video on this is gonna go hard
20 min love when you post wish there were videos from you more often
20:00 The moment I heard this happened, I was waiting for the Devin vid to drop!
