Red Fox Release - May 2024

Late last Thursday afternoon, residents in Thornton were shocked to find a fox wedged precariously between the end posts of their backyard fence. To make matters worse, his fluffy tail was tangled up in some wire. Despite this predicament, the young fox made it abundantly clear that he was not going to make this rescue easy on the humans!
Fortunately, for the rescuers, our front desk staff is on duty seven days a week for wildlife emergencies. Our team advised them to call for assistance to capture and we would take care of the rehabilitation.
Our friends at Thornton Animal Control responded to the call with Animal Control Officers and freed the fox from the fence. Once safely in a transport carrier, he was taken to Greenwood. After he was sedated and muzzled for safety, our team carefully removed the wire from all the fluff. They were relieved to find only minor abrasions and no damage to the tail. He was dewormed, vaccinated, and given medication for pain management. Then he was off to his comfy enclosure for a nutritious meal and some time to rest and decompress from the ordeal.
The next day, this adult fox was feeling better and ready to go! Our team transported and released him safely back into his natural home. Collaboration and support from the community make happy endings like these possible. Thank you to everyone involved in this rescue!
