I have so much respect for Pat Benatar not only for her music, but because she married her guitarist and has remained married for decades. She kept her family out of the spotlight, stayed low key & scandal free.
Live? On her first four national tours there was excellent song selection for the setlist. After each song, the audience was hungry for the next song, except for "In The Heat of the Night." Because the song was slow and very long, she received a lukewarm response from the audience, which drew a confused look from her.
Her performance on this song won her a second Grammy for Best Rock Vocal Performance - Female. When Neil (her husband) first started arranging the track, Benatar was a little taken back with how high she had to sing on the chorus, but she trusted him and gave a phenomenal performance.
Iveseen Pat Benatar in concert 3 times. She is so incredible, and her husband's guitar solos are so excellent! The last time I saw her was about 6 years ago. She was 65 then. She blew me away at how great her voice still is!
She's an Itty bitty little thing (under 5ft tall), but her voice is 10ft tall! I was fortunate enough to get 3rd row seats for her concert and was blown away by her power and presence. You could hear her sing without the speakers. No autotune for her. She is absolutely as pure and powerful as she sounds in the videos.
Pat is amazing. It's amazing to think that we took this for granted back when she seemed to be releasing these hits one after another. Absolutely love Pat Benatar.
Amber & Jay, here are some other good Pat Benatar songs to react to: "Promises In The Dark, "No You Don't", "I Need A Lover", "If You Think You Know How to Love Me", "In The Heat Of The Night", and "I'm Gonna Follow You".
I had the pleasure of seeing Pat in concert 3 times in the 80’s, not only did she sound amazing, but her looks were fierce! Many women in the audiences were dressed like her & had her hairstyle! She set a lot of trends back then! Slim jeans into high heeled boots, the sharp makeup, short spikey hair that could go from from aerobics workout class to going out dancing, they were fun times!
Listening to Pat Benatar shoots me back to the 80's and my teenage years, the great music, the drama, the love and the heartaches you experience in your teens and early 20's. Her powerful voice and amazing music were incredible and like many others young women at that time, I idolized her!!
Absolute banger tune. When Patty belts out those lines "So you think you've got it all figured out etc" in the middle eight, that's all time greatness right there. Patty and Ann Wilson - daylight second.
One of my rock women crushes. Pat is a powerhouse vocally and such a talent. Hit after hit by this incredible woman & band! Others have mentioned it, "Promises in the Dark" is a must reaction. What is amazing is that Pat is not an artist that needs a lot of dancing or theatrics to mesmerize an audience like so many artists do for their shows. Very few could just stand up there, walk around a little and sing and but have you entranced in the performance. She is iconic because she is not only vocally talented and the band has written some amazing songs but SHE is a force on her own who you need to watch. There is something about her - her beauty, her attitude, her style and everything else is just entrancing. While others need a show behind them to make them interesting, few like Pat (Stevie, Linda and handful of others) need all of that to draw our attention.
A friend of mine, a keyboardist, was offered a touring job with Ms. Benatar, before her stardom, early 70’s. He also had another offer to perform locally. He turned DOWN the touring offer from Benatar…he never recovered from that decision! Here she is 50 years later, with a new generation of listeners and fans! Yikes!
Anytime she is from Virginia,, Richmond,, still has a house here too the news reports on her when she is in town,,, thanks for keeping the old music alive,,,,,💖💕💞💞💞💕💖 I love your stuff on the wall behind you
"Promises in the dark" is a must if you love Pat and Pat Benatar and Martina McBride doing ( Martinas ) " Independence day " is amazing , love your reactions 😊 😊😊😊
pat benetar and her husband (her guitarist) are one of the greatest duos ever in music and they dont get the credit they are due. this and hell is for children are my favorite i could care less if i ever hear hit me with your best shot ever again.
PAt is one of the great female rockers no one can replace her but we need more female rockers like her today in 2024 this lady is tuff.. im crazy bout her we need new music from pat
Promises in the Dark in Fire 🔥🔥🔥 there best by far but Neil the guitarist who is her husband steals the show with one of the greatest solos EVER from the most underrated guitarist EVER for sure.
Pat's voice is a high end soprano that's why she can sing very high notes and the guitar over laying it makes it fun and interesting sound! She's only 5' 0" tall. She's the queen of rock from the 80s, definitely! 👌👌👌😎
All hail Queen Pat Benatar!!!!! One of the best rock vocalists of my generation, along with Ann Wilson, Stevie Nicks, Chrissy Hynde, Debby Harry and Tina Turner. Hit me with your Best Shot and Hell is for Children should be next on your Pat Benatar listening list.
You can't go wrong with Pat Benatar. Songs you could review. 1. All fired up 2. Little Paradise 3. Out of touch 4. Wuthering Heights 5. Rated X 6. Little too late Realistically I could put down about 20+ more songs. Been a Pat Benatar fan since her first appearance on American Bandstand. Yeah, I'm that old.
Pat Benatar is pure🔥so the name of the song is almost perfect. Benatar is probably my favorite female rock star ever. I’m talking “rock” music, not bubbly pop (which I like too). She may be the greatest female rock star ever! I’ve loved this woman’s music for decades! Great song! 🔥❤️
My fav Pat Benatar song from my fav album of hers-"Precious Time". "Fire & Ice" peaked at #17 on the charts in 1981. U gotta check out "Promises In the Dark" from the same album.
Lady Benatar is one of my Mom's favourite singers. She is always (trying to) sing along to this song when it comes on the radio. It's awesome! Love you Mom❤
Robsquad, try Pats song We Live For Love. One of her earliest hits. Not the gritty style of her peak. And not Love Is A Battlefield either. This song was a late 70s early 1980 song about love and the passage of youth after high school. A really good time piece from the era. She was a new artist at the time. It was a sign of her rising star. A great high school tune.
Pat Benatar, Joan Jett, Lita Ford, Kim Carnes, Heart, Wendy O Williams, Lee Aaron, Suzy Quatro, Patti Smith... the end of the 70s and the beginning of the 80s had some of the best female rockers ever. In your face, sexy, talented, ain't takin' none, a mix of vulnerability and hardness, raw voices of gold. True rock sirens.
My first rock concert when I was 13 when this album came out - she wore that outfit!!! Love Pat & love her husband Neil on guitar and the entire band!!! 🔥
With hindsight, I can say this: we were lucky back in the 80's with all these talented female singers: Pat Benatar, of course, Lita Ford, Joan Jett, Belinda Carlisle, Cyndi Lauper, Annie Lennox, Kate Bush, Ann Wilson, Chrissie Hynde, Bonnie Tyler, Aimee Mann (from Til Tuesday), Martha Davis (from The Motels), Juice Newton, Siouxsie Sioux, Doro Pesch (from the German Metal band Warlock), Dale Bozzio (from Missing Persons), Anita Baker, Tracy Chapman, Melissa Etheridge, Alannah Myles, Robin Beck, Mari Hamada, Sandi Saraya. Even female singers from the 60's/70's had their moments during this era: Carly Simon, Tina Turner, Bonnie Raitt, Aretha Franklin. Can also be mentioned all-female bands like Vixen, Girlschool, The Bangles, The Go-Go's, Phantom Blue, Rock Goddess, Indigo Girls, The Judds.
Back in the day, MTV used to have the weekly concert. This video was from the concert Pat Benatar did. She and her husband still perform and she hasn’t lost a beat.
From that same album you MUST do Promises in the Dark. Others...In The Heat of the Night, I'm Gonna Follow You, We Live for Love, Hit Me with Your Best Shot, Looking for a Stranger, and Precious Time.
Three suggestions, Promises In The Dark, I'm Gonna Follow You and Precious Time. Pat just blew us away when she came out when I was in high-school. Great reaction. The jump suit? Yes that wad fire.
Some people don't know it but Pat Benatar was a classically trained Opera Singer (Mezzo Soprano) but she loved rock and pop and dropped Opera and created her music group . Her mother was also an Opera singer until she quit to raise the kids.
Pat Benatar and her husband/lead guitarist (Neil Geraldo) pretty much, singlehandedly took on the Record industry and kicked the door open for women to lead their own show/business model and record production.
Thanks for welcoming me to the RSR Family!! Great reaction to Pat Benetar! Thanks for sharing your love with me too. I'm new to your channel and I loved the kind and caring vibes I experienced! May God bless you and your family and thanks again for your great reactions! 🫶🫶🫶😘💞!!
I worked at the Erwin Center in Austin when I was in HS. Most of the performers showed up in limos that pulled right into the building. Pat took a cab walked in with jeans and a bag over her shoulder. She walked by my friend and I and said "how's it going guys?". Chatted with us for a couple of minutes and went to her dressing room. Super nice and cool as hell!!!
One of the best duo's in rock history (because it really is a duo = Benatar/ Giraldo)!!!! Been a fan since their first album. Seen them in concert about half a dozen times and they were awesome each time. Next hard rock reaction suggestion would definitely be "Promises in the Dark." Reaction for different versions of a song would be her amazing cover of Kate Bush's "Wuthering Heights." Reaction for a sleeper awesome song that wasn't a hit, but I think you would appreciate as teachers and parents would be "Evil Genius." Best reaction to reflect their diversity would be either "I feel Lucky" or "True Love" from their blues/ big band/ swing influenced album called "True Love."
While not the first Pat Benatar song I heard, this is the one that turned me into a huge fan of hers. When she was finally inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame (which took far too long), she insisted her husband, Neil Giraldo, go in with her as he in the lead guitarist in her band and the two of them have been musical partners for almost all of both their careers.
I've been a fan of Ms. Benatar since '83 and she's always amazing! I just think her husband Neil Geraldo (guitarist in the black vest in this vid) is one of the best underrated guitarists in rock!
I echo everyone else's comments - Promises in the Dark is a must hear next, she has range and attitude for days on that track. Following that, you should check out "We Live For Love."
It still would be wonderful to get Pat and Neil on your channel for some of their songs. I'd really love to hear their side of the impact of playing "Hell is For Children" all these years!
I'm gonna say Promises In The Dark too! Emotional rockin rollercoaster telling a great story. Studio version though - Spider's recent live guitar solos aren't a patch on his studio recordings. Or try her cover of The Beatle's Helter Skelter - just wowowoweeewah!
Pat was one of my favorite female artists of her era. amd a true rock Icon. She had an amazing voice and was instantly noticeable and on MTV constantly. Was a treat to see you both fall in love with it
Pat Benatar is one the best vocalists ever.
her & Stevie are equals to me
She definitely ruled the 80s rock. I was still digging Ronstadt, but Benatar turned it up a few notches!😎👍👍
@@MarkRichter-j2lwhat about the no. 1 Karen Carpenter?!!😮😮😮
@@christineobrien7707what about the no. 1 Karen Carpenter?!!!!

Promises in the Dark, Is their best live video, in my humble opinion!!!!!! Please check it out !!!!!
Yes!!
Yes, not sure if they've done it yet or not...can't remember, but been watching them since the beginning.
" promises in the dark " 🙃
Absolutely! Vocally, she just kills it 💥
Fully agree.
I have so much respect for Pat Benatar not only for her music, but because she married her guitarist and has remained married for decades. She kept her family out of the spotlight, stayed low key & scandal free.
Her and her husband Neil put on a great show. They tour a lot, you should go to a live show, you will have a great time!
PPPP& Neil seem to be decent peoople who have knoooon how teepppptheir ivate lives h
🔥That’s her husband Neil Giraldo on lead guitar 🎸
Neil 'Spyder' Giraldo: probably the best rock guitarist that most non-guitarists have never heard of
@@RhiannonFan true
Extremely underrated guitarist.
He's so good, never gets the credit.
Neil and Pat are still married and have been for a very long time. They have two daughters . Who are now adults.
Great choice….deserving of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. One of their best is “ Promises in the Dark”.How was this song for live?
yes, she held out till they put her husband/guitarist in the Hall with her!!! Good for her!!
Live? On her first four national tours there was excellent song selection for the setlist. After each song, the audience was hungry for the next song, except for "In The Heat of the Night." Pat Benatar was the best female vocalist of the 80s. She can still do it at like 70 years old. VERY impressive!
She’s baaaaad 💯 classically trained opera singer turned rocker 🤘🏻🎼🔥
Did not know she was classically trained.
@@nozzlechief36 absolutely 👍🏼
I saw Pat Benatar is 1981 at the forum in Los Angeles! its 2024 and I'll never forget this woman! Pat is simply amazing! #1
"Heartbreaker", her first release established her as a true rocker. Her magnum opus "Promises In The Dark" without a doubt. 👍😎❤

We live for Love
and "Le Bel Age" and "Sex As A Weapon"
Several of my favorites in this group. I'd argue that ANY song from Pat Benatar's first 5 albums are worth reacting to!
