Feeling anxious all the time, sometimes Shakey, Dr changed my thyroid medications from 75 mg to 50 mg..been taking it for about 4 weeks but I still feel awful..😢😢😢
This made so much sense to me and was exactly what was happening to me. Losing my hair, hot flashes, insomnia, palpitations, fatigue and weakness. My doctor finally listened when I told her that just because the lab numbers were right did't mean the medicine was right. She lowered my dose and a lot of those symptoms are gone. Hurray!
Im on that medication they lowered it higher it can't keep it under control first 100mg then 100mg plus 5mg then 125mg now Dr saying I'm in danger zone
I was sick for 3 years after my thyroid was radiated for Grave's Disease. I had many of these classic signs that my dose of Synthroid was too high but my endocrinologist failed to recognize it because my TSH was in the normal range. I was waking up at 3 to 4 in the morning with my heart racing 140-160 beats a minute. My endocrinologist said this was anxiety. Like I schedule my anxiety for 3 in the morning! I would leave his office in tears. I looked like a prison camp survivor. I knew I was sick and he made me feel this was all in my head. I went to an awesome acupuncturist who told me I needed to go to a cardiologist. I went to a cardiologist who specializes in women and she said it is not uncommon for woman to have a TSH in the normal range but still have a thyroid issue. She put me in a heart monitor for a month and when she told me this wasn't in my head and she thought my thyroid replacement medication was too high, I hugged her and started crying. She called my endocrinologist, he lowered the dose, and I was "well" within 3 weeks after being sick for 3 years. I "fired" him on the spot and haven't been back to an endocrinologist since. The sad thing is I saw several endocrinologists for a 2nd opinoion while I was sick and not a single one of them identified the problem!
Overdose symptoms may include headache, leg cramps, tremors, feeling nervous or irritable, chest pain, shortness of breath, and fast or pounding heartbeats.👍
I definitely think my dose of Levothyroxin was too high, and I finally decided to take myself off of it altogether. I am now just taking thyroid support supplements and I feel so much better. Thank you for giving all the clarification about Thyroid and meds. I haven't felt like this in 20 years. Think 🤔 I was misdiagnosed from the outset. Thank you so much.
I have Hashi’s & they put me on thyroid meds. Then I changed my diet & now I feel all these symptoms 😢 I think I need to ween off. I feel so much anxiety for no reason. It’s aweful!! And I’m tired, heart feels weird & I don’t sleep well anymore.
Wow. Thank you so much for this! I have 7 out of 10 of these symptoms and I've been telling my doctor I'm being over medicated. He just keeps telling me I'm fine. I demanded my dosage be reduced. He took me from 112 to 75. I pray it helps. This is so frustrating because we can't go around getting our blood tested every month to make sure it's in line.
I wish we could check our levels the way that diabetes patients check their blood glucose level with a glucose meter. Imagine what a difference it would make in our lives.
You can blood test if you want. Labs like labcorp, Quest, etc do walk ins and you pay your own money not insurance. You request a test and you dont need a Dr order- maybe an appt. google it

I had heart palpitations with too high dose and you described what it feels like perfectly. Reduced dose but now I have flushing in my cheeks 2 weeks into reducing dose, although hair falling out has improved. My thyroid will feel tightness depending on what i eat and knees will ache and feel tightness when i bend or kneel down and difficult to get up BUT I have found walking to improve the knee side effects UPDATE: A MONTH LATER AND FEELING WAY BETTER. WAS ON 3 X 50MCG = 150MCG AND NOW DOWN TO 1 X 50MCG DAILY I have not gained any weight, my appetite is reduced, I watch what I eat. Knees feel better, I go for a brisk walk 2 miles minimum a day this helps quite a bit. Throat no tightness only first few days then subsided. I'm hoping to get off this medication and obviously after a month of continuous improvement, I'm happy with results. My TSH was too low, T4 in normal range, antibodies below normal range. I was put on medication after partial thyroidectomy surgery 12 years ago and haven't felt the same since.
After my scalp was beginning to show through my hair I asked my doctor if I was getting too high a dose of levothyroxine. 4 times too high a dose ! No wonder I was so shorts tempered !!! I should have known sooner.
I had synthroid overdose and my high blood pressure was high and my kidney got hurt , I had nocturia , for 6 months I couldn’t sleep , it looked like I got hyperthyroidism, they related my hot flashes to menopause , I stopped synthroid and all my symptoms ran away . OMG I suffered for almost one year . I’m on low carb diet for three years and I’m cooking all of my meals with grass fed meat , wild fish , organic chicken and butter , I have slot of energy 😊
I am bouncing around like a rubber ball adjusting to the dose. Tired then wired then both at the same time. I have extreme symptoms it seems. I can feel all the changes when they happen. And yes I have palpitations almost daily. I feel them both if levels are a little high or low, but they feel different with each and both uncomfortable in their own way. When I have no palpitations I feel more normal. I had a hot face when the rest of me was either normal or cool long before I was dx with thyroid problems. Had no idea why and it drove me nuts! Very uncomfortable. Some days I have to use a cool cloth and fan for hrs to be comfortable. Other days I am bundling up, even wearing a knit hat when it's 73 inside. Ugh. I want balance. Bless you all for dealing with these things.
Thank Dr.! You're such a big help! I've had all these troubles! I got tested and my Dr. lowered my dose and changed it to a different type of levothyroxine (sodium capsules)and I'm feeling better. I thought it was low. I had most of these side effects. Also, adding menopause to the situation can be very confusing. I feel like a Guinea pig!
@@EvgeniiaDolinenko After today , the dr. Is changing me AGAIN as my insurance will no longer pay.. Great. 😡 It was called Tirosint sodium... but it was still levothyroxine. At this point I'm totally confused. It came in little capsules that looked like vitamin E, if you poked it oil could come out. My best description. I'm so mad, I was beginning to feel a little better. Now I have to start again on ?? 🤷♀️
❤They removed my thyroid completely.. I have every 1 of those side effects. And then some. You can live without it. Don't do it. This guy is totally correct in all his videos so far.
If you have no thyroid you can't live without taking Any medication you would slowly die pls look it up or ask your doctor Wishing you good health and a long happy life
Yeah, my thyroid gland was removed in 2003. Over the years I have needed less hormone and my symptoms usually include palpitations. I have them right now and am clueless as to what dose I currently need. It is hard to contact an endocrinologist because they may be overwhelmed with diabetic clients.
The palpitations are very unnerving, I agree. Thanks for this video it was very helpful. I am experiencing all of these symptoms with a change in dose due to Hashimoto's. My tsh jumped from 3 to 13 and my tpo 1300+. It really is annoying that the only treatment I was given was levothyroxine and now I have all these symptoms. :(
My doc has told me I've been overtreated. I suspected, and I've had most of those symptoms you've mentioned. I'm now taking 100 one day,and 75 the next. Waiting a few weeks to get bloods reassessed. Thanks for the info, all of it made sense.😊
After my daughter was born my menses stopped and i was always cold. My Dr sent me for tests because he knew what was probably the cause. My thyroid levels were low. He continued to increase them until i was feeling well and was at a safe level. It was a year long process. I was sent to an endocrinologist who recommended 1/4 of the dose. I stayed where my Dr put me. Over the years i saw various Dr who stayed with the recommended numbers and my fatigue worsened. I still get cold easily but I'm sensitive to heat as well. Im taking a statin. When that was lowered my thyroid levels lowered and the Dr increaded the levothyroxin. Crazy 11:34
I take beef thyroid from ancestral supplements and I am starting to feel most of those symptoms, please do a video about beef thyroid to talk about its benefits. many of us don't have access to a functional medicine doctor to prescribe us T3 and or T4. Most conventional doctors don't care about symptoms.
I was working with a naturopath for other issues on one of those computer bio type programs and obviously something we were doing helped correct my thyroid as I went thru a period where I was very hot all the time... had palpitations, horrible insomnia....like I was lying awake most nights and anxious... I stopped the Synthroid and felt much better... It's been almost 2 years and things are much more normal... I was only on 75 mcg.... the weird thing is w/o the thyroid meds my heart rate improved, my body temperature became more normal... yet my tsh is 4
Heat intolerance is my problem. I’m used to a resting 32 C so when my temp went to normal I freaked out. For 40 years I’ve had hashimotos and new endo took me off t3 tertroxin and put me on levothyroxin . Ever since then I’ve been hot
My symptoms when I'm on a low dose are: anxiety, depression, palpitations (oh I hate it), total weakness, inability to get out of bed, feeling tired of just simple waking. So yes. And the hair loss is just the routine now. 🤣🙈
I was severely overmedicated on Armour. It's been a month off of it. I'm still suffering from that, just slightly less. It's been just awful beyond words.
A couple of months ago I started with severe symptoms I was on armor 90. I was not tested last year mostly because of the whole cv19 thing. Everything became unbearably loud Spinning and nausea(would seem to reset overnight) Palpitations Higher blood pressure Dizziness/unsteady on my feet Tightness in chedt(magnesium helped) Cold sweats/ hot flashes After testing found out I was high. It’s been a really tough journey. Halved my thyroid. But after a month would forget to take it for a few days and if I took it (dose 60) most symptona would return with a vengeance within 4-5 hours. I am off any for now and have my functional dr watching Me along with the VA. I am afraid to take armour
@@wholehealthvisions8798 Everything became unbearably loud? Super interesting because I developed a ringing on the left side of my head. It felt like traveled around left side of my head and recently I'll hear two tones. Docs forq hearing tests and took MRI's and they all came out normal meaning there was no permanent reason I'd have it. Good news. An endro told me it was a less common reaction to T3 overmedication. From combing Reddit and they internet, it seems NDT's can mess with your auditory stuff. Ask a doc about levo or tirosent and cytomel? I'm doing better on levo. It's been two months since stopping the meds, just started levo. I'm still having issues, but they're noticeably subsiding. Maybe it was the t3 but also some people just have wacky reactions to NDT's even if they're tests are normal so it might be been other stuff doing it to you.
@@psychicmediumkellyelson4505 I'm so sorry you went thru that ❤️❤️😃😃 I'm so glad you said something. The morning I woke up in Feb of last year, I knew deep inside me I was going to die if I didn't figure it out that day. It was a deep knowledge. My husband rushed me to a different ER than we'd been going to and that's when I found out. So glad you made it.
Tks doctor. I’ve been suffering from lack of sleep because of hot flushes Heart palpitations Been to the heart specialist. He said my heart functions well I am on 100. Doctor said my blood test is good Right now I’m listening to my body I’m on 75 mg I’m sleeping better Might gradually go to 50 See how I feel It’s been years since I have slept well Everyone is an individual
This is DEAD ON! I am currently struggling with all of these symptoms. I have mold toxicity, so I use an infrared sauna and typically eat an AIP diet. This summer, I have decided to do some intermittent fasting and cut a few carbs (like my morning fruit smoothie). This has caused fluctuations in my levoxyl dosage. These symptoms are scary. I am often debilitated until the next day, when I cut my dose by 25%. The odd thing is that I have to experience these wacky sensations before I know I have to cut back for a day. I wish I could prick my finger and do at home test daily. Do you have any suggestions? I just got my blood drawn this morning to get a new reading. My functional medicine doctor is not a big believer in intermittent fasting for 58 year old women, but I’m so sick of the additional 20-30 pounds. I’d love to hear from you.
I can thyroid cancer 2015, thyroid removed. I have been part of the clinical trials for 9 yesrs. I am feeling well , no palpitations, good energy levels, sleep like a baby. Regular blood checks.,I am 77 yesrs young. Something must be going in the right direction.
I have been on 200 micrograms for the last 10 years and have always felt unwell I was recently was referred back to a specialist who told me it was way too much I am now on 150 hopefully there has been no damage done I understand an overdose can cause osteoporosis in some people
I never knew about the talking too much ! It happened to me and I didn't understand myself as to what was going on ! Thyroid has caused me so many problems and how is one to know if what's going on is related to thyroid ????? Has caused many problems in my life.
My Tsh was 16.270 in 2019. Provider started me on 50 mcg of generic levothyroxin. Two months later it was 6.560. My only symptom was that I was always cold. (and overweight but that’s because I eat too much/poorly). I could not tolerate 50 mcg though. I was so irritable and sweaty all the time. I had to poo at least four times before even leaving the house every morning! Provider said I could break tablets in half and my levels have been great ever since. 3.020 in April.
Oh my gosh when I was on Levo I had rapid heart rate, terrible heat flashes that’s why I switched to compound T4 and T3 SR I sent my endo to hell. He said my lab numbers were perfect meanwhile I was suffering. Endos only look at the lab numbers that’s it!
@@subarnasubba2069 you need to find an internist who specializes in hormones and who is willing to work with you to find your right dose. Endos won’t listen they only read labs, you maybe be able to find one who well deal with compounds but most can’t be bothered it’s sad I know but don’t give up it took me four doctors only one was an endo! I would never go back to one.
This I can say because I experienced it, I was on a high dose of T4T3 90 mcg. I was losing hair but as my Dr increased the T3 within six months my hair started to break off, it was breaking off in various places but particularly on the top of my hair. I was devastated, I was also irritable, couldn’t sleep, and had a resting heart rate of over 80. It all happens quite slowly you don’t realize it all at once. My TSH was completely surpressed but my T3,was 4.0 so in my case T3 was too high too most Drs say T3 should be 3.5 to the upper part of the range.T3 4.0 completely suppressed my TSH. At this point I had two inches of hair on the top of my head and some of the sides and back of my hair just broke off. My Dr immediately reduced the dose of T3, now I am trying to work my way back up so my hair can start growing back it’s been only 4 weeks I went from TSH 0.01 to 0.52 I still need a way to go. I am on 75 levothyroxine my T4 is 1.3, and my T3 is now 2.7 still a bit on the lower side. I went from hypothyroid to hyperthyroid that was not a good trip but now I know the difference. My nails have finally stopped lifting from the nail bed but still not growing. My hair is now white and growing back very slowly. I will see my Dr next week we will go over the numbers of my. May labs. It’s hard to understand the opposite of hypo to hyper but trust me once you are there you will know. I now keep a journal and Tara know my heart resting rate. It went from 80s to low 70s and I no longer have insomnia, I am a bit constipated but not as bad as I was when I was first diagnosed. Be very aware of hypo symptoms and hyper symptoms as Dr Childs says it’s really the extreme opposite. What a trip. I hope this helps someone T4 and T3 combinations have to be monitored and symptoms journaled in my experience. To have your hair break off is devastating and caused me great anxiety and depression. Take your time as Dr Childs says go slow when increasing T3 doses.
I jus found out yesterday i was taking to much i was on 125 and my cycle missed two months, plus these symptoms im on 100 now i cant wait to feel better
I have been taking synthroid for 20 years after I had a goiter the Dr. gave me the radiation pill. Once they got the medication down to 50 mcg that’s what I’ve bee taking all this time. I’m 71 with gray hair which is thin at the back of the crown, my hands do hurt and have for years and I do have hot flashes. Otherwise I feel good still work, walk everyday I’m able. I have a lot energy most of the time. I’ve never asked the Dr if I could lower my dose because I felt like it would mess things up. 😊
I had all those symptoms. My daughters friends think I'm a cranky person. My pulse was 100. Normally 70. Heat intolerance. Diarrhoea +++ each day, I'm the whole list. Palpitations galore . My dose is reduced now. I feel different and better.
Problem is stress can have a big impact on the thyroxine levels in your body and that in turn can multiple your difficulties tremendously. I find stress a real difficulty in today's society, you just have to try and find strategies for coping with it better in order to minimise the damage to your physical health.
Problem is, that stress and how much your body is feeling it, isn't always in your own hands - infections, big changes in life and crisis aren't a matter of choice. For everything else a good stress management is gold ❤️
Been taking 75mg Levo since August, but lately been noticing heat sensitivity, jittery anxious feelings, and increased heart rate. Maybe I’ll go 50mg for a month or so... love your videos 🙏🏼
I think that it’s perfectly reasonable to adjust the dose by 25mcg either way and see how you feel. Another test that is helpful is to measure your temperature first thing in the morning at the same time as doing the resting heart rate. If it is below normal and the heart rate is in the fifties, it’s fairly obvious that you need a little more.
I know this "nervous energy". It feels like you're a car on the highway, driving in first gear. Everything in your body seems to be working too fast and preparing for a marathon - despite you're doing nothing but sitting. Really stressful and tiring! In addition to the symptoms mentioned in the video, my hands become shaky. And the heatintolerance is so big, I can't sit and lean against the backrest, because the heat at my back is dammed to a point, I can't bear it any longer. But I only get these symptoms certain days in a row, despite I take a constant dosage of L-Thyroxin. Everything can be fine for months - until something happens, an infection or something like that, and I feel heavily overdosed. As I read, there is something called "Hashitoxicosis", where a lot of thyroid tissue is destroyed and therefore a lot of hormones are released. And because this can be triggered by infections, I think that this is exactly, what is causing my symptoms. Unfortunately, this never shows in my TSH-levels :( And my only remedy is, to reduce my intake of L-Thyroxin, which is giving me relief after 48h. Then I can breathe normal again without the feeling of having a heavy stone on my chest and I can sleep for more than 5 hours. What else can I do to avoid those "hyperthyroid phases"? Or if this isn't possible, what can I do to manage the symptoms? edit: I only take 25 ug of L-Thyroxin.
It might sound paradoxical, but I use to experience weightGAIN when overdosed. As a matter of fact, the overdrive makes me eat more - out of nervosity, boredom, hoping it will calm me down ...). When I am underdosed, I tend to be so depressed that I won't have the drive to decide what to eat, go shoppping, prepare meals a.s.o, so I often loose weight (but don't recommend as a method for weight loss ;-). When it comes to heartrate, training should also be factored in - as an athlete, mine has recently come up from 43 to 51 (thanks to an increased dose of T4 ). Even though this might still be low in your books, I otherwise feel like at the high end of an adequate dose and would certainly not want to increase it further. (I am 64 now, on T4 since I am 18, so quite some experience). P.S. It seems that athletic training might require an increased dose, so it can be tricky to find the goldylock level when cycling through different training loads and rest periods - perhaps you want to make a video on the subject?
thank you. i am atheltic and my resting heart rate so so low, my dose increased to 50mc twice a week and i am currently gaining becaus not sure ,i am so so dizzy lightheaded, starving the past 3 days, scary , i feel maybe i need to get bloodwork done again good news my tsh went from 2.5 to 1.6 and finally for first time my t3 came to exactly normal at 2.0 but not feeling strong , feel weak past 2 wees because so dizzy cant workout and over hungry
I was put on thyroid medication over 30 years ago. I quit taking my thyroid medication on October 20, I feel like a different person. That thyroid pill destroyed my life. I am 63 years old and never been in a relationship. I blame my impotency for that, but after quitting my thyroid medication, I have gained some of my sexual function back. No one liked me, I was irritable all the time. I had a very hard time smiling. I had very stiff muscles. I trusted doctors, now I would not trust a doctor if my life depended on it. After getting off thyroid medication, I have found that my body is much calmer and the anziety is gone. I am actually shocked that my body survived it, someone up there likes me. I do have a story to tell. You know what the strange thing is, I do not have any of the symptoms of hypothyroidism.
@@Maple-Key Yes, I did quit cold turkey. All the symptoms vanished. The doctor started me out on a lower dose. The symptoms returned, but less severe. Not sure yet if I even need thyroid. I will ask the doctor to lower more.
Hello Dr I was so happy to see this. I have been over medicated taking Levothyroxine 112mg. It started a few months after having Covid. My hair started falling out, dry skin very fatigued. I chalked it up as having Covid. But about a week ago I woke up sweating, anxiety, sick to my stomach. I went to the doctor and sure enough my TSH levels were high. I was diagnosed years ago with Graves they burned out my thyroid. The doctor took me off the higher dose for 4 days then I started my lower dose I'm on my second day. How long does it take for you to be able to sleep? And feel better? I never thought I would feel this way again.
It can take at least 5 days to start feeling better and that was with me stopping the medication completely. Then I took half doses for several days and then started on my new lower dose which took a couple of weeks to start feeling better. Levothyroxine builds up in your system and it's not a quick thing. Unfortunately!
when i had covid in 2020 before it was being tested for . i know i had covid cos i had pretty much every symptom . Then i got a goiter and my specialist said that the viral infection could have caused the thyroid gland to attack itself. it was really swollen on the one side. and my thyroid meds had to be regulated but i still don't feel well. I have gained at least 10 pounds.
Too much Tirosint ratio to piothyronine is Insomnia, loose stools & a little bit of anxiety. There is MO readon for mevnot to get to sleep, as I watch the sunrise & UVA, so my circadian rhythm is set & I watch my diet seriously, and take enough magnesium. My doc let's me take T3 but I need to convince him to lower Tirosint w/ having raised my T3 which has helped alot
My doctor recently adjusted my Levothyroxine I was on a 25 MCG dose and she upped it to 50 MCG dose and I had awful effects from it my chest has been tight from it I ended up going to the ER they did an EKG they did all these tests they didn't realize that it might be the thyroid medicine and I brought it up to the cardiologist I saw and he wasn't sure but I'm almost positive it has to do with the Levothyroxine because I think I was at that borderline level whether I needed medicine to begin with and when she upped it to 50 I've had really bad effects and I'm trying to wean myself off levothyroxine and I was wondering what your suggestion is to to gradually get off of Levothyroxine and how to take care of the symptoms I'm having tightness in my left arm tightness in my chest when I walk I get really dizzy and lightheaded it's just really bad I would appreciate if you can comment on that
I don’t know what to do. I have had all the symptoms of hypothyroidism and my doctor, who initially performed only the TSH test in response to my request to test me for it had his secretary call me and say it was fine, didn’t seem to be interested in why I had symptoms with a normal test. After reading that this is common I eventually asked if he would refer me to an endocrinologist. It was only then that he did another test involving T3 and T4 and that he finally scheduled a follow up meeting, presumably to discuss the results. In fact, he just wanted to petulantly point out how right he was while refusing to discuss symptoms and referring me at the same time. Naturally I was refused by the specialist as well, and now I’m left with zero follow-up at all. I finally realized that my diet was probably deficient in iodine so I tried supplementing, and after a couple weeks some of the symptoms lessened. But I’m still not sure where to go from here. I’m seriously considering firing my doctor.
On levo for approx 10 years 50 micro grams daily. Have had regular and unsettling palpitations, intolerance of heat/sweating, and irritability. Thorough heart checks reveal no issues.
I'm on Armour Thyroid. I am experiencing most of these symptoms. My doctor is lowering my medication. After seeing this video. I still feel it is way to high.
Make sure you get your T3 checked cuz Armour has way more T3 than T4. I had to go off it for that reason. It made me absolutely sick. I developed a lesser known side effect of humming in my head, I hear it kinda in my left side. It's been really scary. I'm six weeks off of Armour and went back on levo (which I was always fine with) and I'm so glad. But I'm still having pretty terrible side effects from armour because it takes the body so long to adjust.
And don't prescribe the dosage yourself. If 75 makes you feel better don't take 150 all week. Actually I did get back to normal for about a week and fast. No need for daily naps or sweaters indoors but I went the opposite direction a week later. Only sleeping 3 hours a day and sweating in air-conditioning and blood pressure went through the roof. Don't do what I did. Increase slowly with a doctor's permission.
I think my LEVOTHYROXIN is to high my thinking is off as well I see my doctor in November. I feel like I am being starved some days when I lay down for bed and wake up I feel like I lost weight at night.
Thank you very much for your vídeos. I'm a hypothyroidism victim. -) that's how I feel myself. Yes, some months ago I had overdoses of levothyroxine, and I end up in hospital. Doctors said it could be a virus though they didn't understand what was wrong with me. Then soon we discovered it was overdoses of levothyroxine. In that period I was eating a los of pancakes, lake a crazy, eating sweats, all those bad carbohydrates. I didn't feel week but I felt shortage of breath. The main problem was the shortage of breath. As if I couldn't breath with my lungs 100%. It was wierd, I could not breath as a normal person. And it was not COVID, they checked it, it was negative. So we lowered the doses and soon I felt better.
Just feel tight around neck. ThyroidNP okay. Levo had me feeling slug with hair loss. Ended up in ER highest BP ever. Did all cardio test & CT. I stick with zero or natural!
Thank you for this channel…I’m learning so much. I was just diagnosed with Hashimoto’s and started taking levothyroxine 50mcg and liothyronine 5mcg a week ago. I’m 73, 110 lbs. I started having loose stools a few days ago (but I also have IBS) and then for the past two days have been having hot flashes, nervousness and mood swings. I’ve never had a panic attack before but this feels close. When I was tested, my thyroid antibodies are extremely high, but my TSH is 5.52 and t4 and t3 are still right in the middle of the normal range. My functional Dr told me to stop taking t3 right now, but I’m wondering if i should also drop the t4 dosage, because I’m really uncomfortable, and I’m having trouble working and keeping myself together. Is it possible my system is overreacting because my free t3 and t4 are still in the normal range? Thank you
I told my endocrinologist that for the past month I have had trouble sleeping, I lost weight and I have loose stool. I was thinking that my dose is too high (I cut gluten and dairy out of my diet about 1.5 months ago, maybe my gut is healing and I started absorbing more of the medication, that’s my theory. I eat the same amount as before if not more because I am trying to gain weight) At the appointment she looked at my latest labs (before the diet change) and she said my TSH levels were in the right range but still a little high for my age group (38) and that she wanted to INCREASE my dose but since I didn’t want to lose weight she left it at 50mcg. I feel that 50mcg is too high despite the labs, I am about to make an executive decision and cutting my pills or not waiting 30 minutes to eat food..
I am hot all the time, jittery and feeling a lot of nervous energy. I have started cutting my meds two days per week. My mosi recent TSH reading was 0.6. My PCP is happy with my numbers but I don't feel right.
I wish you my Dr in real life. Wow ok I have to call my dr tomorrow to do blood work. I have had a few palpitations. Thank you for all the information ❤, ps my menstrual cycle is wack, only a 2 week break, on it 2x a month and I havent took a solid poop in 4ever
Hi Dr. I have hypothyroidism on 50mg for a long time. Now as I listen to your talk these are the symptoms I identified with me. 1. Hair loss 2. Insomnia 3. Muscles weakness 4. Pulpatation 5. Diarrhoea 6. Heat intolerance 7. Numbness on the left side 8. Pricking of the eyes 9. Back pain
Depending on what else is going on with brain & body, the same test results may not mean the same results from person to person. When i first needed thyroid medication after radiation treatments, my TSH was only somewhat elevated but i was falling on the floor walking from my bedroom to the kitchen. Years out from that, i don't need so much.
My lab results say my levo dose is too high but I have none of those symptoms on your list. I have exactly the opposite as if my dose is too low, if I try to lower my dose I can't stay awake, gain weight and have brain fog. My endo won't consider treating me differently and says he will lower my dose without trying to find out why I'm this way. I'm from the UK .
I feel my thyroid medication does it too high, i have the feeling of being hot all the time. I have pernicious anemia, Hashimoto's, hypo thyroid. I have has lifelong struggle with my bowels, and at one point had brain fog because of extreme low b12 levels. I have lowered my dosage from 185 to 175 and am waiting for a test. I am about 250 lbs and 6ft 3inches, 36 inch waist exercise daily.
My t4 came to 11.5 ans lab said see doctor. I am having sleep issue , palpitations irritability, anxiety. He would not listent stating tsh is in range sontake same dose
My dose was just reduced from 112 to 100. Recent weight loss of 30 pounds doing keto and intermittent fasting. Flushing, trembling, twitchy feeling, achy weak legs. Not sleeping! Hashimotos. Synthroid.
Read the actual package insert! I had the side effects as a Thyroidectomy patient my Endo had me on 150mcg for years. I almost had a heart attack and defined had hypercalcuria both are known side effects listed in the insert. I went off Synthroid and am now on Armour. By the 3rd week I turned a corner and felt the best I had since my surgery 8 yrs ago. A friend of my husband’s had an actual heart attack at 175mcg. People should pay attention to the palps. I’m seeing a cardiologist now because of being overdosed. Fckn pisses me off.
levy never worked for me it comes from different manufactures. I take Synthroid....but why in the world can't they make the exact amount . There are HUGE gaps in the number of levo like100,125, 165 there should be some marked that is closer so that it is not always either too high or too low ..it is always changing ...I have had had Hashimotos for 28 years... I agree with some of these statements...it feels like no one can help us ...we are screwed:(.....
My thyroid dose was too high recently. I had another symptom you didn’t mention and I’m curious about it. I had a scalloped tongue! And as soon as my levels regulated the scallops went away. Any insight on this? My TSH sweet spot is around 1.0 and stayed there for about a year. I then saw it declining over a few months and I noticed I had a scalloped tongue first. Then a couple months later my hair started getting brittle and falling out. The test results showed I was hyperthyroid and had to adjust my dose. What stinks is that it took almost two months for my thyroid to stabilize again.
I thought I was reading my post! Same happened to me went from hypo to hyper and hair just broke off mainly on the top and sides of my head! It was crazy!
Is 112 mcg to high? My sister was is having severe panic that is constant and we don't know why. She was on 137 mcg. It was lowered to 112 once a day. She is still having the severe panic and brain agitation but her primary care doctor says that the med is fine. My sister goes to the emergency room almost everyday in a state of terror and confusion begging for help. What is a more normal dose for someone who had the iodine over 20 years ago. Thank you.
well, everyone is different. I have Hashimoto's and my thyroid goes up and down....ALOT. Especially have to up the dosage during winter months, I have no idea why. I can tell when I need to lower, I get shaky mostly. But if my does is too low for me, I get easily fatgued, joint pain and muscle weakness and no energy. Just going up the stiars causes me to lose my breath, hypotension and th elist goes one. It's been a crazxy balancing act since I was finally diagnosed in 08. Prior to that, I could fall out any time any place, just collapse and had to lay on the floor before I would fall and blackout. ER trips countless....
Nearly all the symptoms I had before I started Levo ( expet for hair loss).Since I lowered the dose to only onet third of what I had before.I still get most of the symptoms except for rapid heartbeat. I'm still losing hair but less than before. There is no clear cut answer for me, and my blood test results have always been in a similar range. when I was on maximum dose T3 varied bewteen 12.5- 17, now is betweem 14-15.
I have Hashimoto’s, again, after taking antibiotics in Dec for a UTI. My cycles used to be every 5 weeks. Started taking iodine in 2019, and my cycle jumped to 30 days. Stopped taking levothyroxine in March 2021. Started taking Dr Scheussler’s miners cell salts, last month, and my cycle jumped to 28 days; still taking the iodine. I’ve gotten off all my meds, last month. I feel fine, but still have Hashimoto’s.
I'm a caregiver for a woman who has just about every side effect possible from anything; she wonders what "it" is that makes her feel so weak. However, I don't believe it's an "it;" it may be all the effects of meds she takes. Currently, since major surgery for shoulder replacement last fall, she has felt worse and has nausea, vomiting, constipation and diarrhea, etc. But she still has to get off the oxycodene, now 15 mg, 1 to 2 daily. She is addicted to this; tried stopping it suddenly and had withdrawal symptoms immediately, so we have to wean this away. Her diabetic numbers are low enough that her doctor told her stop the Trulicity. She has 23 stents; she stopped taking the statin last week. Recently, PC suggested new med, an injection, to bring her cholesterol to zero. I wanted to use so many ! Marks here! Anyway, as you can tell from just this, she deals with a lot. She recently stopped some kind of infusion; she experienced such bad side effects the last few times. She is a cancer and covid (2×!) Survivor at 70 years old. Unless she could get off all these meds, how do we know what contributes to her daily symptoms which prevent her from getting needed nutirion???
I have a question- what are some of the causes of “swings” in too high then too low when taking levothyroxine? I have a drawer full of this med because The blood test show too high/ too low TSH and my doc changes the med. I experience all of the symptoms. 20 years in and I still struggle every day.
Usually when I don’t take any medication my body seems to clean itself out. It feels like my thyroid medicine is to high and I’ve been getting headaches
My thyroid was removed 35 years ago. Actually don't know if they did a complete or not but most of it was removed. I have been on thyroid meds for 35 years. From the initial start of the meds. I have been unable to control the heat in my body. I am miserable even in the winter I get so hot. Does anyone else have this problem? Ok after seeing this heat intolerance is a side effect of the Levothyroxine. I mean my heat intolerance is unbearable year around. Doctors don't seem to care or know why this happens. I take 75mg Levothyroxine. Would love to try your supplements. I definitely think my dosage is too high. Also have had to have parathyroid removed. Just always tolerated the way I feel but have always been miserable. I am seventy-seven and tired of this feeling.
I have been taking thyroid meds since my youngest daughter was born almost 26 years ago, recently my thyroid meds have been too high according to my new PA that has been testing she lowered me from 100 to .88 and still tested too high after 3 months and now she lowered it again to .75. I am 58 years old had alot of the symptoms you stated above recently. We are going to test again in 3 months. I took Iodine sea kelp liquid years ago and thought about taking it again. but don't want to mess anything up until we get it regulated when I did take it I lost alot of weight went from 168- to about 118 in about 6 months. and that was over 7 years ago, I weigh around 145 now and would like to be around 125. What is your thoughts on Iodine and I have always taken Synthroid not the generic equilivant but each time they try to give me the generic at my pharmacy, I have heard stories how that sometimes it will mess up your thyroid do you recommend the generic after being on Synthroid for over 26 years. thanks for this video and reading this and I would love your opinion.
hi Hi Doc, I watch your favorite show I live in St. Kitts and Nevis. Can you please tell me where is your clinic in the US that I could come and visit you
Idk but I was finally feeling somewhat normal today and I took my thyroid medicine today and I was fine until now which is a few hours ago. Now my leg muscles are burning. I am getting ready to shower and am soooo not wanting to because of my legs. At least I’m not shaking though like before! I’m confused on whether or not I’m on too much or too little
Hello, thanks for the video. My thyroid was treated with an iodine pill on November 2021 to cancel my thyroid, because it was to high. Now , the doctor say is normal. However, I am only 4'11", I was 115Lb. Now I am 128 Lb, my feet hurt so bad, I cant walk long distance any more, and I am very frustrated because I eat a very healthy diet. Do not drink, do not smoke, do not eat fast foods, or sweets. I eat about 1200 calories a day or 1500. and walk about 15000 steps. that's it, I can't walk any longer any more , my feet hurt so much at the end of the day. This weight gaining happened in the pats 3 months and I started taking levoxyl 0.075 MG for the past 2 months. My doctor do not want to increase my dose. I am afraid I am going to continue gaining 4 Lb's a month; and it will be very difficult for me to loos it, not to mention my feet are killing me. What should I do?. Thanks for your time.
Basically as thyroid patients we’re screwed either way
Lol yes it sounds like that lol damn
Yup, it’s time the medical profession did a complete overhaul of the research and development of medicine for the thyroid
😅 my t4 is high 15.02
So what does that mean ? I am taking too much ? I take 75 mcg should i get to 50 mcg ?
Seriously! Can't find a Dr who really knows about thyroid!
Hurray!
I have completely stopped taking mine for 6 weeks! I was soooo sick. Feel better now but stupid GP didn’t test my T3 just my T4
@@kinjo5416 I'm glad your going better I'm trying my best to find different doctor ever time I walk now my heart racing fast I'm not even walking fast

So glad you fired that doctor and finally got resolution to your health issue.
Overdose symptoms may include headache, leg cramps, tremors, feeling nervous or irritable, chest pain, shortness of breath, and fast or pounding heartbeats.👍
I went to a cardiologist because my bpm would just go up it is horrible. It’s really important to have a Dr who will listen to you!
@@sunflower8599 I think if you look at thru some of Dr Child’s Videos he has one that speaks on this issue up and downs I saw it recently too, check
The leg burning is awful!
Terrible pounding headaches, where the rhythm of the pounding was the same as my heart was pounding.
When I take too little as my doctor recommends I get brain fog and cannot string a sentence together. When I increase it I get my vocabulary back.
Totally agreed!
Here too.
Same!!
I know brain fog from both - hyper- and hypothyroid phases. As if my thoughts would fly out of the window, impossible to catch them.
Vivian webb can you please share the names of your thyroid support supplements, it will be a great help for me. Plz.
Me too!!
What about losing your brows?
When my dose s too high my face starts looking weird. Eyesgiht is not too good. Scalp feels sort of weird too. Eyebrows dont grow
@@apocalypse_frau Yes! I've been saying this for so long
You can blood test if you want. Labs like labcorp, Quest, etc do walk ins and you pay your own money not insurance. You request a test and you dont need a Dr order- maybe an appt. google it

From 112 to 75 mcg seems like a big jump in dose.
I had heart palpitations with too high dose and you described what it feels like perfectly.
Reduced dose but now I have flushing in my cheeks 2 weeks into reducing dose, although hair falling out has improved.
My thyroid will feel tightness depending on what i eat and knees will ache and feel tightness when i bend or kneel down and difficult to get up BUT I have found walking to improve the knee side effects
UPDATE: A MONTH LATER AND FEELING WAY BETTER.
WAS ON 3 X 50MCG = 150MCG AND NOW DOWN TO 1 X 50MCG DAILY
I have not gained any weight, my appetite is reduced, I watch what I eat.
Sadly us without thyroid need medication 😢its hell
I didn't knew there were sodium version of the pills. Will research.
@@EvgeniiaDolinenko After today , the dr. Is changing me AGAIN as my insurance will no longer pay.. Great. 😡
It was called Tirosint sodium... but it was still levothyroxine.
@@phydarielyes omg I wait months for my regular checkup

The palpitations are very unnerving, I agree. Thanks for this video it was very helpful. I am experiencing all of these symptoms with a change in dose due to Hashimoto's. My tsh jumped from 3 to 13 and my tpo 1300+. It really is annoying that the only treatment I was given was levothyroxine and now I have all these symptoms. :(
Yikes, U need a decent endocrine
I have only the first three symptons: anxiety, depression and insomnia
I wish I had a doc like you where I live...I've really struggled with this. My thyroid was irradiated 12 years ago...
Crazy 11:34
@@wandamarkle2642I’d say you don’t need that statin.
I never heard about that?
So is beef thyroid making you feel better or worse
I was working with a naturopath for other issues on one of those computer bio type programs and obviously something we were doing helped correct my thyroid as I went thru a period where I was very hot all the time... had palpitations, horrible insomnia....like I was lying awake most nights and anxious... I stopped the Synthroid and felt much better... It's been almost 2 years and things are much more normal... I was only on 75 mcg.... the weird thing is w/o the thyroid meds my heart rate improved, my body temperature became more normal... yet my tsh is 4
How did you go about getting off synthroid
A couple of months ago I started with severe symptoms
I was on armor 90.
I was not tested last year mostly because of the whole cv19 thing.
Everything became unbearably loud
Spinning and nausea(would seem to reset overnight)
Palpitations
Higher blood pressure
Dizziness/unsteady on my feet
Tightness in chedt(magnesium helped)
Cold sweats/ hot flashes
After testing found out I was high.

What do you do if have both symptoms? Hypo and hyper.
The same in my case. I can feel bad but the analysis is Ok. It's horrible. The doctor ignores my complaints and just sticks to the lab analysis.
So whom to consult endo or physician?

There is a big 75 mg/day and 50mg/day ! Always look at the blood work ! Then it is possible to alternate 75 and 50. 5 and 2 ....
Good for you! 👍
Mcg folks…mcg…😂 lol
I think that it’s perfectly reasonable to adjust the dose by 25mcg either way and see how you feel.
Another test that is helpful is to measure your temperature first thing in the morning at the same time as doing the resting heart rate.
If it is below normal and the heart rate is in the fifties, it’s fairly obvious that you need a little more.
Good information.Thank you.
I subscribed! Added you to my favorite RUclips doctors. Thank you!
I will be in Atlanta Macdona on 20 June. Anyway I could make appointment to see you Ipa happy.
I don't use the synthetic thyroid medication. I believe it makes things worse over time. I use the dessicated Thyroid medication.
Where do you get that?
Agree about overeating when overdosed. Especially sweets, cakes, muffins, all that sugary stuff.
Yes me too! I thought I'd lose weight but I gained and now that my dose is lowered I actually was able to lose a little weight
thank you. i am atheltic and my resting heart rate so so low, my dose increased to 50mc twice a week and i am currently gaining becaus not sure ,i am so so dizzy lightheaded, starving the past 3 days, scary , i feel maybe i need to get bloodwork done again good news my tsh went from 2.5 to 1.6 and finally for first time my t3 came to exactly normal at 2.0 but not feeling strong , feel weak past 2 wees because so dizzy cant workout and over hungry
What was the process to discontinue?
I just quit taking it and things started to improve about 6 weeks after I stopped taking it.@@ccalero100
Did you just quit cold turkey? Did you take anything else?
@@Maple-Key Yes, I did quit cold turkey. All the symptoms vanished. The doctor started me out on a lower dose. The symptoms returned, but less severe. Not sure yet if I even need thyroid. I will ask the doctor to lower more.
Did you go RAI process?
I’m in the same exact position as you right now. Lowered my dose and waiting to feel better
I hope you feel better soon! This is very frustrating. 😊
I hope you mean 112mcg not mg 😳
Too much Tirosint ratio to piothyronine is Insomnia, loose stools & a little bit of anxiety. There is MO readon for mevnot to get to sleep, as I watch the sunrise & UVA, so my circadian rhythm is set & I watch my diet seriously, and take enough magnesium. My doc let's me take T3 but I need to convince him to lower Tirosint w/ having raised my T3 which has helped alot
My doctor recently adjusted my Levothyroxine I was on a 25 MCG dose and she upped it to 50 MCG dose and I had awful effects from it my chest has been tight from it I ended up going to the ER they did an EKG they did all these tests they didn't realize that it might be the thyroid medicine and I brought it up to the cardiologist I saw and he wasn't sure but I'm almost positive it has to do with the Levothyroxine because I think I was at that borderline level whether I needed medicine to begin with and when she upped it to 50 I've had really bad effects and I'm trying to wean myself off levothyroxine and I was wondering what your suggestion is to to gradually get off of Levothyroxine and how to take care of the symptoms I'm having tightness in my left arm tightness in my chest when I walk I get really dizzy and lightheaded it's just really bad I would appreciate if you can comment on that
Oh my goodness! That was a mess! EVERY single one was the same for too low.
Exactly....I think he truly confuses the issues rather than helps😢
Struggled with this for a very very long time 25 years
I have had about 60% of all those symptoms.
It certainly may be, just make sure to get your labs checked.
@@hbinfinity This is incorrect. Armour Thyroid is 80% T4 and 20% T3.
It’s uncanny all symptoms that are listed here are the same as perimenopause 😢 it’s FFs 🤦🏼♀️
Thank you
Took my first pill at 11 pm so I'll let you know how my body handles it the more I take it.
I feel that 50mcg is too high despite the labs, I am about to make an executive decision and cutting my pills or not waiting 30 minutes to eat food..
my mood goes very bad if the dose is high, i need to excercise to become normal
Me too!
Horrific ,I get so nervous
Good information!
Very interesting -thank you!
I am hot all the time, jittery and feeling a lot of nervous energy. I have started cutting my meds two days per week. My mosi recent TSH reading was 0.6. My PCP is happy with my numbers but I don't feel right.
TSH 0,6 is very low but my doctor insisted its fine for me 😢
Other than weight gain, symptoms are similar wether it’s to high or to low.
Great video. Thank you.
All 10 of them
I wish you my Dr in real life.
1. Hair loss
2. Insomnia
3. Muscles weakness
4. Pulpatation
5. Diarrhoea
6. Heat intolerance
7. Numbness on the left side
8. Pricking of the eyes
9. Back pain
I have been experiencing some of these symptoms, especially palpitations and anxiety. I am taking levo and Armour and I may be taking too much.
Yes. I have all of these symptoms!!
Hashimotos. Synthroid.
Sounds like overmedication. Are you ok now?
You were over medicate, when you lose weight you HAVE TO lower dosage
I have that too
An endocrinologist told me it takes minimum of 2-3 months to see how hormones react to a change in meds. Hard to be patient.
Thank you.
Absolutely the best is 1.0
well, everyone is different.
My hair did break off and when I went to the doctors, my t thyroid was too high and I take Synthroid so she lowered the dose
I have all of the symptoms mentioned but my Dr. says my levels are good. 😫
This is the same symptoms basically for being hypothyroid!!
Usually when I don’t take any medication my body seems to clean itself out. It feels like my thyroid medicine is to high and I’ve been getting headaches
It's possible your dose may be too high for your body!
How do you know if those symptoms are from too much Levothyroxine, or instead from too much Liothyronine?
Whats your weight ,If you lost weight you need lower dosage ,thats what I heard
You refer to taking the ‘exact’ amount but tablets come in 25mgm sizes.
What is your thoughts on Iodine and I have always taken Synthroid not the generic equilivant but each time they try to give me the generic at my pharmacy, I have heard stories how that sometimes it will mess up your thyroid do you recommend the generic after being on Synthroid for over 26 years. thanks for this video and reading this and I would love your opinion.
what about pulsatile tinitis, anyone get that from too much Levothyroxine?
hi Hi Doc, I watch your favorite show I live in St.
I’m confused on whether or not I’m on too much or too little
Been taking this for years, and am the first man in my family to go bald, now I find out it's probably from the levothyroxine.
