The car was in a shocking state almost urecognisable from some angles! I guess its a testament to the construction of BMW's that the owner walked away from this one particularly the speed he was doing! Seems his wallet was more injured though, looks like he paid 26k for it the end of last year, nine months later its worth 2k!! The body is only fit for the crusher although plenty of parts. Would be great to see you guys do a re-shell but imagine the man hours that would take would tie you both up for ages.

A friend of my parents ordered a brand new Peugeot 405 Mi16x4 back in 1990 and spec'd every single optional extra on it. First drive and it was hit by a BMW and rolled. Because the car was so new they re-shelled it and it was nothing but trouble from then on in. I think everyone regretted the re-shelling, I think you will dodge a bullet by not going down that route! Much as it would be fun to watch!

Take in attention crash tests are done at +- 35mph and the damage is massive as the new cars are made to dissipate the energy of the impact around the shell protecting the occupants, now having that in mind imagine if that impact in what looks like an not deformable barrier at 120mph, the steering wheel will be in the boot and the driver will be mash peas

Hi lads. I'm BMW ATA senior panel beater I've worked for BMW for last 18 years. I re shelled a E46 m3 years ago and they was a ser charge on shell from BMW so the shell was about same money as the m2401 shell but the sir charge was about £1500 I'm sure the shell with chassis number stamped from BMW was only about £2600. If you did go down that route I'd phone back and ask about that because I didn't hear him say anything about that. I'm unfortunately off work this week on holiday or I'd have asked are parts department about it..😉 your right though rest of bits would probably still kill it. 😉

It'd have been good to see you go through the process of re-shelling this car, but that's the thing with you guys being so busy and successful, how do you commit to the amount of time needed to fix it. Out of interest, if you legally completely re-shell a car, what happens regarding the chassis number?.

I had a head-on accident quite a few years ago - which, like this car, resulted in EVERY SINGLE PANEL of my car twisted/damaged - the combined impact speed was 130mph. I too walked away from the accident (albeit severely bruised...) - the car was checked over by a specialist working on behalf of the local constabulary, and was told if the impact was an INCH in any direction, I wouldn't be here today.

£4000 engine with ECU and keys, gearbox £750, rear subframe and diff £650.....that'll break very quickly to 5-6k. Then send the V5 to DVLA as scrap with a covering letter. Even if you sell to a breaker, I would still write to DVLA saying the car is damaged beyond repair. At £2500, you did very nicely. Good effort!

To those saying "why did you buy that?" ....The path to profit in the motor trade follows many different directions. The best at it make money when they seemingly have no right to or where others faced with the same scenario couldn't. Rob and Chris are masters at this game, just look on and quietly learn from them.
