Have had 2 tires fail in 40 years of driving. One was a sidewall issue. May have been cut. The other was a blown tire. 2,000 mile old steel belted radial blew a hole in the tread. Steel Belt was blown inward. Goodyear denied road hazard warranty. But were so perplexed that they virtually comped me a new tire. Looking at her tire she obviously drove on that tire for a while seriously under inflated.

Even being unemployed, I've spent money on new brand name tires in the past. I don't compromise my safety to save a few bucks. No way. Your tires are the only things connecting you to the road.
So a Person buys tires but are in SHOCK when they have a blow out. Just because you install new tires doesn't guarantee you will not get a flat or blow out.
I've had far more failures and blow-outs on bought-new tires than I have on top-grade inspected used tires that are a correct fitment for the car. If the used tires have 5-10k miles on them and are in great shape, they are quite unlikely to fail for the remainder of the casing life! One important thing to watch for is "DIRECTIONAL" tires - they are designed for front-to-rear rotation ONLY. If you rotate side-to-side, REVERSING the direction of rotation, they are guaranteed to come apart like the ones in this video did. Running ANY tire with low tire pressure will cause a failure like the one in the video as well - far more so than an out-of-balance tire will. Just sayin'
Most people get blow outs cause they dont do periodic air checks or balancing/rotations. So they tire gets so low on air or out of balance/worn down eventually it just blows out .
Imagine buying used tires and expecting a better outcome. You heard "duh duh duh duh duh duh" and then a pop? Impossible. Duh duh duh duh means the tires were ALREADY flat. How TF it pop again?
I find it hilarious that that tire blowout is usually caused by contact with a curb considering it's the side wall that blew out and not the tread separating
Most likely what happened is a nail or something got stuck in the tread of the tire which caused the tire to go flat. When the whole side of the tire is shredded like that it means that after the tire was driven when very low or flat for some distance.
@@joelgingerich9633 Plus, she drives daily on US-183. That's always been a crappy road. I've bought used tires before with no issues. I just inspect them before they are mounted and ensure that the mechanic balances them.
a lot of the problem is tires are not marked as far as what their rotation was from the vehicle they came off of so when you mount a tire and it rolls in the opposite direction it causes material separation
I remember the tire place I used to go to hooked me up with 4 used BF Goodrich tires from a totaled car that he claimed had less than 10k miles on it for $200, luckily those tires lasted me almost another 40k miles. Been buying new tires ever since.
as soon as I pull up , MY ASS , she drove on that tire a long way , I know because I am a mechanic with 40 years experience , a tire blows out it doesn't rip all the way around unless you are driving on it Flat for a long distance , did you hear her ? I buy used stuff all the time , she bargain hunts everything and treats it like brand new , then when it doesn't perform brand new she complains , why did she have to get tires in the first place , because she drove the last set of tires until they looked like bologna rinds , ask her the last time her oil was changed and her reply would be ,What oil ?
sometimes the tires make more road noise than the owner likes so they get a different brand that is quieter,. sometimes putting cheap brand new tires on a sporty handling or a fast vehicle produces worse results than putting used performance tires with very little wear to them. Those cheap tires work really great for Grandma's Ford Focus that she only drives to the store once a week, and she didn't have to scrape up $500 to replace her old tires with no treads to get them. Sometimes you buy a set of new tires that suck on wet surfaces and you didn't know before purchasing and having them installed and you live where it rains almost daily. You are right there's a reason the last owner didn't want them, doesn't mean they are always truly faulty or bad tires.
I work in the bodyshop industry. What most people dont know is insurance companies actually buy used salvaged parts all the time. The used parts are called LKQ. It is perfectly legal. To me that is a huge prooblem. In Texas they tried to pass a law to make it illegal but the insurance companies lobby and money killed the bill.
This is why you gotta learn to fix as much as you can yourself I do most of my own basic repairs cause I don’t trust anyone as far as I can throw them. Now the not replacing parts and billing for them is pretty widespread. There are lots of smaller shops that will do that despite it being a bad thing. Another thing I can tell you is this, a shop has the opportunity to fix their mistake at least one time. My friend was a victim of this, he had his tires rotated by a local tire place that bragged free rotations. His dad made him take the car in and they failed to tighten his lug nuts fully. His tire broke off and snapped off the studs. Same shop reinstalled new studs and put the tire back on, a week later the upper ball joint failed on him at highway speed. They took it back to the same shop. I told him at that point he should have taken photos and called a defective product or services attorney. As they had tried and clearly failed to properly repair a car. I told him if he had brought it to me I would have replaced the studs and the upper ball joint at the same time to prevent the failure. His dad insists I charge too much, but what can I do I’m a 1 man operation with a pole building behind my house and I gotta make something with the pandemic around
I'm surprised the shop didn't sue the news casters for slander. That was a hatchet report. "We feel they were wrong, hur when the cops searched the property, they found nothing, but we still feel we are right." I work for a reputable dealership that has 4.7 stars on google, and I've had the cops called 2 times in 3 months to the dealership by customers who feel we ripped them off when they were the ones who wanted cheap aftermarket parts instead of parts that were factory that came with 2 years of warranty
Used tires are not always a bad thing but they have to be in decent shape to be reused and they also have to be balanced what kind of tire shop doesn't even balance the tires they're selling and putting on for their customers.
That's how a shop works if you authorize the work and decide you don't wanna pay for it then you don't get the car back until it's paid for plain and simple
Not if you a suv. Used tires are fine if you know what to look for. Pay a little extra and have them balanced etc..get all 4 for 250 even with my surburban
The reporter should have shown the date code on the sidewall of the tire. There should be a regulation on selling tires that are sold past the expiration date. Tires are only good for so many years. Tires age over time and begin to DRY ROT. It doesn't matter if the tire has never been used, the tire will still DRY ROT. DRY ROT usually happens in the sidewall area. Sometimes it can be seen but other times it cannot, but it can still be rotted. Tires in the old days would last longer than tires made withing the last 10 to 20 years. The rubber does not last as long because its made out of cheap material. Note: All tire manufacturers do not use the same compounds or procedure to make their tires, so the quality, durability, and longevity will vary. This is why the sale of used tires must be regulated.
Give me a break, its a used tire there are no guarantees when you put on a used tire, i would think anyone with at least half a brain would realize that.

I am from WNY where people swap out all season & snow tires. You can buy good used tires & some people find themselves in a situation where they have to buy used tires because they are in a temporary tight financial situation. If you are not shown the tires up front before purchase then do not buy/agree to have them put on. It is better to replace 2 at a time & not wait till all get bald at the same time.
Rosa need to sue this News Station for putting his life on tv that has nothing to do with the tire. And if you buy a used tire look at it first for any signs of dry rot, uneven wear, holes, previous repair, patches etc. and decline to buy it if it does, no one is making you buy the used tire. Its impossible to guess if a tire is going to blow up that can happen with new or used. Also small 13" to 18" tires can be bought even new for as low as $30 each if its not a popular name brand. People use common sense.
No company sells brand new tires (15 to 18 inch for sure, 13 and 14 inch are outdated and rarely used) for $30. Even the cheap Chinese made 15, and 16 inch tires are at least $50 with 17s and 18s being a decent amount more.
I live in Canada, businesses are not allowed to sell used tires…specifically for this reason. I would be curious how a used tire is inspected, if at all.

This is why I don't sell used tires! Auto repair shops have a hard time as it is being trusted, selling junk like this only makes it worse for the honest shops. I have a harder time dealing with untrusting customers than I do fixing their cars!

Seriously you are big enought to read the date on you tires and inspect them. Also an unbalanced tire is not life thretining. And I've hada a tire poop when i was driving it is not that bad or life threatening. But it can be if you are doing 100+
I have bought used tires my entire life from shops like this with no problems whatsoever because I fully inspect each tire I buy and I watch them balance them to make sure that they do it properly. It's unfortunate somebody would take advantage of her like that and being a woman most mechanics and tire shop operators know that they're usually much less knowledgeable about cars which leads to a higher incident percentage than you would see with men. They should shut that shop down.

Looking to blame someone for her choices buy used tires what do you expect.
USED tires? Did I hear that correct? That's like buying a used condom. Some things your not supposed to buy used.
Gotta love reporters who believe they have the right to interview you if you like it or not.
Look out for oil change places to rip you off also in fact you can expect to be ripped off
Find a local old mechanic to help you
I remember the tire place I used to go to hooked me up with 4 used BF Goodrich tires from a totaled car that he claimed had less than 10k miles on it for $200, luckily those tires lasted me almost another 40k miles.
Used tires on a Daewoo. That just made my day.
Dude the tires are used.. but he's still not balancing them or anything seems shady giving the mexican llanteros a bad name
She overpaid for used tires
Hellyeah... I live close to Chicago n a used tire cost arnd $25 to $35...depending on how much "meat" they have.
NEVER buy 'used' tires. There a reason the owner stopped using them.
sometimes the tires make more road noise than the owner likes so they get a different brand that is quieter,.
sometimes putting cheap brand new tires on a sporty handling or a fast vehicle produces worse results than putting used performance tires with very little wear to them.
Imagine expecting a used item to be like new. You cheaped out on tires, you paid the price. Let it be a lesson.
$200 for used tires, cheap knew ones cost that much. Got $48 Walmart tires. Used tires are $25
Mine go for $50 new, its on a small car though
I got 4 new tired for my 2015 Kia for only 250 installed.
“As soon as I pulled up, it(the tire)said spew!!”
She’s not the sharpest crayon in the box.
I'm surprised the shop didn't sue the news casters for slander. That was a hatchet report. "We feel they were wrong, hur when the cops searched the property, they found nothing, but we still feel we are right."
I work for a reputable dealership that has 4.7 stars on google, and I've had the cops called 2 times in 3 months to the dealership by customers who feel we ripped them off when they were the ones who wanted cheap aftermarket parts instead of parts that were factory that came with 2 years of warranty
Bingo
And NEARLY COSTED HER LIFE. Ooookey.
lol
Used tires are not always a bad thing but they have to be in decent shape to be reused and they also have to be balanced what kind of tire shop doesn't even balance the tires they're selling and putting on for their customers.
Don't Buy Shit Used Tires Duh.... If You Can't Afford To Properly Register Insure, And Properly Maintain A Safe Vec You Shouldn't Be Driving
That's how a shop works if you authorize the work and decide you don't wanna pay for it then you don't get the car back until it's paid for plain and simple
This place is still in business btw
Brand New, Basic Tires start at around $400
New, Dependable, High Quality, Top of the line tires; Expect to pay $800-1,000+
The new tires on my truck cost around 1,000 but I get a discount at the shop I work at so I only paid a little over 500.
Not if you a suv. Used tires are fine if you know what to look for. Pay a little extra and have them balanced etc..get all 4 for 250 even with my surburban
The first line in this - "You trust your mechanic to be honest and up-front with you..." Wha!?! Since when?
And it doesn't say mechanic shop they only do tires and rims
“Other complaints accuse Rosa of holding on to a customers vehichle until they pay up”!? Yeah it’s called a garagemans lien
Help help I'm really cheap!! Give me brand new parts for the price of used ones or go to jail!
Used tires are awesome when you need them but just know what you are buying. Not just the tread depth but the actual date of manufacture.
My left ear liked this video..
First Amendment Louisville on occasion my right one enjoyed it as well
Switching back and forth drove me nuts while using Bluetooth to my hearing aids! May sound OK to those with normal hearing but really ticks off those of us who need a little help hearing.... News stations should just try to tell the news instead of trying to entertain.
When I buy used tires for my truck I always check the date on the tire
Tires expire after five years always check the dates when you buy used tires
They dont "expire" lol.the oils in the tire start to break down around the 7 year mark which can lead to dry-rotting.5 years is way too soon, even when you buy new tires theyre typically about a year old.
I always tells people never use tier or any use always buy it new because you've 30 warranty even you can't afford it it's better to be safe then sorry!
I got used tires they lasted for a good 5 years
so you got like new tires
P Se not exactly like around 50 percent tread it's just it was a work Truck that gets used a couple times a week at the most
I buy used tires for my car all the time they awalys last me for a long time i go with the tire shop that we know that person for 5 years....
I own almost 60 cars, all of them have used tires because no way in hell i can afford that many new. A hobbys a hobby, just inspect the tires before having someone mount them. Half my tires come from junkyard cars, the other half are people upgrading and switching, doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure that one out
Victor Y. This is why you check dot numbers and don't buy them if they arent already aired up. I get "used" tires from the wrecking yard for my blazer. A lot of dodge Durangos with full size spared thst were never used. Check the DOT number and don't get anything over 6 years old. Shops won't even touch tires more than 6 years old.
I run a shop and this is exactly why I don’t deal with used questionable parts
Yes,that's what you say,but who really knows what you do.I do not trust ANY mechanic.
Pay for what you get, if you take use tires over a new then it's your own risk, but rebuild parts over new parts it's your money your choice
MrBrenman21 how? Used shit has wear and tear,
Super T, so do used CARS but that doesn't mean that we should send them all to the crusher before their time. INSPECT used tires and used tires - sell the good ones to someone who can't afford new. Good business for everyone and reduces the toxic waste we bury or dump into the air we breathe. Recycle everything we can and our world won't die so quickly.....
$200 for replacing 4 tires? What did she expect?
For those of you making accusations about "you get what you pay for don't buy used tires". a dealer take off is considered a used tire and some don't even have 10km. Once a tire is mounted and removed it is considered used.
That's not what these were, and 99% of them won't be.
@KXAN please sticky..
According to the DOT code they are
Petroshina Joint Stock Co., St. Petersburg, Russia - 3D Tires
the 3 Letter code after the TIN indicates is was made before 2000
1997/87/77 I believe since it has a 7 in the last part of the 3 digit..
Honestly the shop should be fully liable for selling her 17,27,37 year old tires (or 1997 or 1987 or 1977 )
at the minimum they were 17 years old
Agreed. These commenters are scary. I see how big companies get away with predatory lending and the like. People just assume anyone can take extreme advantage of others and it's, "Oh well. Should've known better." Until it happens to them. His reviews are not normal in any way. It's the lowest in the whole Austin Metro area for used tires with more than five reviews. He's in the 1's! This guy's just unethical plain and simple.
Everyone needs to stfu about used tires ive been buying used for $25 each for years with multiple cars and NEVER HAD A PROBLEM it all depends if the installer is shit and doesn't balance them right
TheGuy not balancing a tire is not going to cause it to blow out. It will wear faster. I work for a company with the largest fleet of vehicles in the country and they don't balance a single tire.
TheGuy then you are also either very poor or very cheap. Many people have problems with used tires because thats what they are. Where do you think they came from? From people replacing those tires with new ones because those are worn out and need replacing. You cheap ass bitch.
THE BOSS as long as they are a good brand and pass the penny test i dont see a problem
TheGuy This lady didnt see a problem either. You cheap fuck.
R35PECT, your screen name is 180 degrees from your personality. You show no respect for others in your conversations. PI$$ANT might suit you much better. Hurry and grab it before someone else does. No RESPECT for you, but I'll still wish you a happy day!
$200 for used tires? And i you look at the receipt she also paid for the install so 200 wasn't the total. I paid $250 for 4 new tires for my old Toyota.
you cant complain and worry about safety when you get used tires 💀
Even the cheap Chinese made 15, and 16 inch tires are at least $50 with 17s and 18s being a decent amount more.
spray painted parts are USED parts and USED tires aren’t meant to be bought in full sets.
You get what you pay for!
I live in Canada, businesses are not allowed to sell used tires…specifically for this reason. I would be curious how a used tire is inspected, if at all.
I guess when it's a blow out they all show up, all the police and the lawyers....Used tires are used tires. Don't expect them to be new because it's not what you paid for, but there may be legitimate complaints here. I can understand that. So it's all about the facts.
This is why I don't sell used tires! Auto repair shops have a hard time as it is being trusted, selling junk like this only makes it worse for the honest shops. I have a harder time dealing with untrusting customers than I do fixing their cars!
Why TF would you buy used tires!? 🤦🏻♂️
Tires are very important for your vehicle people shouldn't sell used tires or even buy used tires that is totally unsafe to do if people care for there own safety dont buy any used tires
True, but if they're not balancing the tires and charging for balancing, that's flat out illegal.
Tires are one of many things you don’t cheap out on
My favorite place to go in Colorado Springs is John Senter Tires, or unfortunately, the dealer when certain parts are required exclusively.
They're probably not even torqued correctly neither
My alignment got bad and really jacked up my tires. The wire was exposed on 3 tires! My mechanic sold me 4 used tires for $75, the next day I bought new tires from Good Year with a 3 year alignment check and got it with finance so I had payments. $75 was a good price, but I'm not testing it more than 1 trip.
IMO do not buy used tires because many of today's used tires were made in China and were not very good when new !
jiffy lube u can trust..? or big o tires..and you must check out the tires first before, they install
I dont see a problem, not on this video, buyer beware, you get what you pay for. DWI has nothing to do with his business practices. Good luck Josh .
You get what you pay for you people want cheap you get cheap
What did it sound like again?
$200 for 4 tires ? Lol well let’s start with that first . To good to be true so don’t be surprised for cheap products or use.
How the frig can you tell if it's been balanced once a tire blows the weights blow off.selling used tires and only get a complaint a year that's pretty good
1:52 what kinda a quality service you get Answer Horrible And you still paid them $200 🙄
🤦🏻♂️🤦🏻♂️your buying used tires what can you expect
That's people fault, if I find out the the place I take my car do all of this, I simply take my business to someone else.
This is what hurt business like this, stood going there.
Key word USED tires
For anyone buying used tires there is a 4 digit expiration code on every tire it goes by the weekof the year it will expire and the actual year it expires for example 2015 thats the 20th week of 2015 the tire expires always look for this expiration date on any used tire.
