That’s not a”heavily modified”truck. That tank and pump is available at any farm store… it’s used to fuel tractors and such while in the fields(so you don’t have to bring your farm equipment to the gas station!

Most of us construction pu have 200 gallon fuel tanks. Lol hell hot shot trucks put in 100 gallon fuel tank just for longer driving..
When I ride through a few states I'd love to have a vehicle that has a huge tank so I don't have to stop as often.
I could then choose to pick a cheaper gas option off the beaten path and save some more.
Not sure if there is a safe way to travel with 200 gallons in let's say a Camry or (laughing) a Corolla.

You know what concerns me more than the thieves themselves? This “Fuel Manipulator” Thingy they used. Here’s why I’m concerned: it sounds like a gas station owner could use this device to defraud customers by making it look like more fuel is going in. I bet you some owners do that and that’s where the device came from in the first place.

There are people who spot check gas stations for this type of thing... I don't remember who it was, but I saw a video on that. Although if that was a state based system, it might not be all states who implement that.
On the video I saw, it was a small group (maybe 3 people) who were responsible for spot checking all the gas stations in whatever ever area they covered.

@@desiv1170 is it maybe a federal commission that checks the pumps? I know sometimes there’s a sticker with a state seal and signature on the pumps like they get checked BUT I don’t know if owners are forewarned of upcoming inspections or if they are spontaneous.

None of that theft comes from oil companies lol. The station has to buy that fuel at their cost, so if it’s stolen, that profit is taken from the station, which might be a family run operation. The oil company still gets paid

This happened in Colorado Springs last week, cops caught 3 guys in a uhaul van stealing gas down the street from me. One guy ran and one of the cops sprained his ankle or something chasing him.

Many trucking companies are struggling right now so he could possibly be selling it at a discount to multiple trucking companies without their knowledge of it being stolen.
Just a 10-20 cent discount per gallon can save truckers hundreds of dollars a week on fuel.

its measure flow. they stick the thing in to alter the flow. so lets say if 1/10th of the fuel is being measured by the flow switch, you'll get 90% more gas while it counts only up to 10. so they pay with 5$ and they block the meter at 4$ but, remember that a computer has to measure 100% of your paid value before it shuts off the relay allowing you to pump your gas after it turns on when you pay
the nozzle doesn't stop because that is a mechanical device inside the handle that disengages the lever when you hear the click. Air pressure builds up and eventually pushes a plunger that disengages the lever and that's the 'click' you hear.

The criminals are probably trained by a college graduate or got an education in prison. Hendersonville police won't require a college degree from its applicants for another twenty years. The gas station probably collected the evidence themselves after being dismissed by these same police officers

I went to an oddball middle of nowhere gas station a couple years ago prepaid $20.00 in gas. Was paying no attention until I realized id been waiting a while I drive a suburban with a 40 gallon tank it was full and I had change left. She had accidentally set the pumps at 30 cents a gallon. I told her and tried to pay the correct price, but she insisted me being honest was payment enough was just thankful she had only sold me fuel after resetting prices.
This happens a lot more often than you would think. A lot of systems have to have the 9/10 of a cent punched in after punching in the new price, and that’s easy to forget to do - so let’s say you want to change the price of gas to 3.09- you have to type in 3099 to get it to ring correctly- if you forget the last digit then the system thinks you set gas at .309, AKA 31 cents per gallon

Happened to me too, except i would have drove off but my daughter was with me and noticed they left the dollar amount off, so i got gas for $0.39 a gal instead of $3.39. I had to be honest for her and notified the cashier and paid the correct amount. Made me realize i need to be better at life and more the good guy my daughter sees me as.

Exactly same here but prob not as bad as you in NYC. Im a carpenter who works at the military base that has pure gas stations (no ethanol) that is cheap. I filled up my car along w/ 4 10-gal legal containers... 60 gals total. Got stopped at the exit and searched... detained for 4 hours repeatedly telling them its for my personal use as gas is expensive and they have the best. They almost revoked my badge, but i had to agree to not re-sell the gas... which i wasnt.. just stored it for my personal use which lasted a month ($350 vs $450 a month).

Also set an upper limit for gas dispensed. I’d assume there are very few vehicles that need more than 35 gallons max to run for the day or get a significant distance. If you have multiple vehicles to fill up, do them one at a time or work it out with the station

There was another one that beats this some years ago. This guy had a hole in his van and one or more tanks and would go and tap right into the station's underground storage tanks. No gas pump involved.

Gas stations make little to nothing on fuel. They work with fuel suppliers to get people in the door to buy food, drinks, lottery and tobacco.

This guy is nothing compared to what others have been doing. Ive heard numerous stories which in fact are true of guys going into gas stations at night that were closed with box trucks with the floors cut out and park over the actual tanks and pumping out the tanks dry.
