It’s like your phone has become your enemy when anyone with access to this type of software decides to target you. Where is Apple and Google with their supposed dedication to privacy, especially Apple with CEO Cook always telling us how Apple makes personal privacy on their devices a number one priority!
@deniskhafizov6827 so apparently you haven't heard of cell tower triangulation. Here's a brief explanation. Your cell phone is constantly "pinging" every tower within range, and each tower records the time, ID, and strength of each ping. If three or more towers record a ping from your phone at about the same time, general physics says that you are somewhere in between those three towers. So they have your general location at that time right there. But they can also get the strength of your signal, and the tower that records the strongest signal is the one you are closest to. Obviously over time if you're moving they can see where you're going. That's the gist, it doesn't require GPS, and it works with any cell phone that connects with towers, whether a smartphone, or an old flip phone. And just to make it even creepier, there are things called "stingrays", which are portable cell "towers" that fit easily in cars, and are used by law enforcement. So if they're looking for you, they get your general location from the towers, and then they drive the streets of that area with a stingray, which your phone will ping to when it's in range. (There's no way to control this other than turning the cell radio on your phone off.) Working on the strength of your signal, they can narrow your location down to which room in a specific house you are, all without you ever being able to tell. Again, NO GPS REQUIRED. This is the general information that's publicly available, but there are some people that say they can track you even when you're phone is off, as long as it has power. This may be because sometimes they can actually turn your phone on remotely, WITHOUT lighting up the screen or signaling you in any way. They can also fly over with a stingray to collect pings from phones on the ground. This is one way they find and target known terrorists. Hope this is helpful.
HBO needs to make this doc free to the public as a public service alert.

Aren’t there any privacy laws we can use to win this?
I am a victim of phone hacking and I a not able to stop people who are doing this by changing my SIM card over and over again. Due to the perpetual sim changing, I have no old data or numbers that I must have to have. My life is affected by it in many ways, since ever conversation and moves that I have also being discussed by those people and most of the time I see their reaction vividly, whether it is positive or negative. In a world where privacy right is dodged only an act of violence and aggression will keep thriving. Not every crime is a real crime. Some murders and crimes happen as a result of not getting justice. Maybe….the only thing you can do is to give them a lesson in a mysterious way, so that they know there is justice called … ‘ An eye for an eye!’
This is Orwell's Big Brother, the only difference is that Orwell did not predict that the public would enthusiastically purchase the equipment used to watch them.

I can think of several more that were missed off the list, Orwell's 1984 (he only got the date wrong), and the story line to the film Soylent Green. What is it about society that drives it to the dark side? Maybe it's entropy related, there are far more ways for the future to go bad than be good.

Those of you dissing Ronan that we already knew this, sure, but he is talking about higher level spying via particular Spyware infection that takes it to a high level of data swiping. Getting grocery ads when you talk spaghetti is one thing; obtaining info to affect governments or commit murder is another.
But we also already know about, the usa was found spying on their allies for example , we know about pegasus and who knows what is out there
I agree that happened in Spain during the crisis with Catalonia that they wanted to separate from Spain. I am from there, there were false propaganda also in Google manipulating people obviously they didn’t know very well the language and local slang and were obvious they were foreigners. Few years ago.
If you talk about something with another, you will see ads. Put it to the test, think about something you normally NEVER talk about. Weed, Wheelchairs, Travel Insurance. Talk about it next to your phone, you will see adds.

We’re all being surveilled. Have been for many years now.
Everything changed after 9/11 and the patriot act was passed, allowing this to happen.
As soon as they started putting cameras everywhere, I knew that we lost all of our privacy. We need laws to protect us.
Edward Snowden told us that years ago. My iPhone turns on by itself at night.

It is good to see Ronan Farrow again.
Considering the sea change in power that is about to occur, this information is salient and relevant to this moment.
Our side need to recognize the scope and scale of this new risk and take corrective action to mitigate it.

Do you guys know the Murdaugh case? The father killed his son and wife and the phone proof he was there. Minutes before killed the his son was with his friend dog that got hurt on his tail and was sending his friend a snap chat with the image and the father voice got recorded. The father didn’t know his son was recording. Because of bad coverage the message was sent but not received. So his friend couldn’t answer. The father then killed then right away and checked his sons phone but they were nothing because bad coverage. Not answer . The father said he was not there but the son accidentally recorded his father on the snap chat and that’s how he got caught.
“Could be?” It already is! If I have a discussion about something, the next day I start getting advertising related to that subject. I recently was talking to a woman who had an apparent stalker and we talked about her getting a weapon for security. The next day, I had ads for a local gun range.

I knew this years ago. To think what we do on or near our phone is private is naive.
This is been the norm for long years. 3 years ago, I was living in a new area. I never talk about allergies, never. That morning I made a comment, with cell in jean pocket….that evening Google sold me comment to all allergy meds available in the US. BTW, I had been in the US for less than 3 months after being gone 18 years.
Wait what? That thing I always carry with 3 camera, a mic , a gps and access to all my e-data can spy on me . 🤯
It’s like your phone has become your enemy when anyone with access to this type of software decides to target you. Where is Apple and Google with their supposed dedication to privacy, especially Apple with CEO Cook always telling us how Apple makes personal privacy on their devices a number one priority!
Just revert to the old Nokia if all you need is to make calls.
Those can still be tracked and record you.
@itsROMPERS... tracked without even a GPS module onboard? well, good luck trying
(There's no way to control this other than turning the cell radio on your phone off.)
Working on the strength of your signal, they can narrow your location down to which room in a specific house you are, all without you ever being able to tell.
