I am on an intermittent fasting way of eating starting at 11:00 a.m. and ending at 5:00 p.m. I also have a high-protein/low-carb diet with no sugar. I went from 145 lbs. to 130 lbs. I am a 79-year-old woman, and I am 5'8". Time-restricted eating works. In addition, I work out four days a week, including walking and weight-lifting from 5:30 a.m. to 7:15 a.m. I walk 10,000 steps a day.

@medawson01 this is fantastic to read. My mum is 77 and she’s done something similar and is now the weight she was as a teenager. She just doesn’t get the strength training part though; she’s a work in progress! So good to read this works so well for you. It’s similar to my own eating pattern, except that I fast 24-36 hours once a week to take advantage of autophagy. I lost all
My excess body fat (internal and subcutaneous) and now my skin is too big! Im working now on shrinking it tight again with longer fasting periods. And it’s working a treat! Im 56 in Jan; no meds, 5’8, 130lbs, hill walking 90 mins min each day, plus body weight resistance training, rucking and daily yoga! 😅

Isn't this intermittent fasting, yes just heard you mention it. I don't have a breakfast and have a main meal mid afternoon. I combined this with carnivore elimination diet and lost 23 pounds. I still do it but I've added other foods now and have maintained weight for 9 months now. I have more energy and healed much inflammation. It really works. I prefer it to fasting. There's a lot of healing goes on. Feel better than I've felt for many years. I'm 68.

I’ve been doing this for the past six years following a 32 pound weight loss. I’m 57 postmenopausal and this has really worked for me to maintain the weight loss within a 2 to 3 pound marker. I try to do all my eating between 6 AM and 3 o’clock in the afternoon. Now, of course there will be events or restaurant invites that may get in the way, but never go to these places or events starving. You will wind up, chewing the leg off of a piece of furniture lol Always have a protein dense snack before you go and then you can nibble lightly and still be social. I have found that this does work and I feel much better on many physical levels with sleep inflammation control and overall physical function. Once you get into the habit of it, it’s not difficult. You just have to get through the adjustment phase but once you see that scale holding steady, it will be a good incentive to stick within your time window.

I've been doing time restricted eating for past 6 months. My eating window is 11am-7pm roughly. I prioritize 3 balanced meals high in protein and fibre in this eating window as I am cognisant of getting the right amount of nutrients (I'm a Dietitian :)). I feel full and satisfied and have reduced cravings for sugary/ultra processed foods. Coupled with lifting heavier weights 3 days/week I have managed to lose 10-12 lbs, reduced waist size and hopefully has improved by blood TG levels and improve my insulin sensitivity as I am in Perimenopause age.

I started time restricted eating 6 years ago. 12 - 7 pm. 2 meals and one small snack in between, circa 1500 calories a day, lowish carb moderate protein and fat, green veg and salads. The only benefit ever since was to stop getting fatter. In fact I have put on weight when on holidays or over Christmas etc, maybe 2kgs after a week eating 3x a day and deserts etc and maybe some beer. Each of these weight gains takes 3 months of very careful eating to get rid of. And yes, I do exercise a lot.

Time-restricted eating falls under the fasting umbrella. When I first started fasting, fasting practitioners spoke about this and intermittent fasting as two distinct, different things, both being a part of fasting. Then everyone started calling time-restricted eating intermittent fasting.

My understanding of what he said the difference between IF - eg. 5:2 and an eating window is that there is no counting calories.
I would imagine if practising IF without calorie restriction/counting then that would be the same as an eating window.

    EARLY DINNER or SKIP BREAKFAST?
The only TR studies I found that question whether TR eating works had participants eat early dinner rather than skipping breakfast.
The reason skipping breakfast is likely better than early dinner is because the therapeutic hours are at the end of the fasting period (low insulin and ketosis) and burning more calories during this time demands more fat burning.
When skipping breakfast .. the therapeutic time are the few hours before lunch when we are active and likely burning calories
With early dinner (and breakfast) .. the therapeutic hours are the hours before breakfast when people may be sleeping and may fewer calories.
Also ... when we wake up our blood glucose naturally rises (along with cortisol) so DROPPING insulin may be more difficult right when we wake up.
This guy's routine works because he doesn't eat for a few hours after he wakes AND he exercises fasted in the morning before breakfast.
As such ...he has burned many calories in his therapeutic window demanding an enhanced.fat burning.
If he woke up and ate breakfast .. I doubt he would find any benefits from TR eating.

While the Mediterranean diet is highlighted as being the best to follow, I'm certain that it doesn't just mean the actual food in isolation. Think about the lifestyle, the social aspect of sitting down with people when eating and taking time over the meal. They don't just eat and run. The whole ritual of preparation, socialising and digesting is part of the 'diet'. However, it is curious that fasting is encouraged, on several online information sites, ZOE included, that eating late in the evening is not a great idea for your body, yet most dinners in Mediterranean countries are never started before 8pm :-)

Clinical experience is my test of any recommendation who since moving to the US has had a diet where the animals are kept in an unhygenic way with corn being their main source of nutrition. You always fast when you do not eat! Avoid snacking! Time restricted eating is intermittent fasting, it is just an other name. Yes, fasting is healthy - snacking makes just profit for the industries (food+healthcare). If you want more benefits, you can prolong your fasting. Over 16-17 hours starts the autophagy (healing of the body). Fasting is difficult is you eat much carbs or you snack. So the first step is to go on a low carb no snack diet. (Don't eat if you are not hungry, don't drink fruit juuces they are just sugar). Then you will not have problems not to eat for longer periods (16-17 hours). If you cause a spike in your blood sugar eating carbs or other snacks then it will fall rapidly and you will feel hungry! Go keto and you will have no problems with fasting.
