I appreciate the shout-out! I am the maker of the fork of simplemenu. It is indeed currently on v4 but I am always open to update the project with new features and fixes. Just let me know! Cheers :)
I love my v90, and I'm a big fan of the MiyooCFW project. One other big change for 2.0 is that it's fully Open Source, instead of being a mixture of open source and random binaries smashed together. This means it should be much easier to improve over time. I agree with you that the performance seems to be a step back compared to the old 1.3.3 release. I think part of that is the overhead that retroarch adds. I want to try some standalone emulators on mine and see if they get the original performance back. Oh, and while the CFW is much more resilient to random shutdowns, you still should do the proper shutdown process when possible.
Oh thanks for mentioning that about the shutdowns! I was under the impression that it was pretty much completely safe to do so, I'll have to do a bit more research on that and then hopefully pin a comment mentioning my mistake
@@GravelWare the relevant change is the switch to the btrfs file system, which uses a journal to help it recover from unexpected power loss during writes, and it keeps checksums of every file, allowing it to detect and sometimes even fix corruption. The downside is that Windows can't natively read and write it, which is why they added the USB MTP mode. (But there is an open source windows driver, or you can use Linux to manage it.)
Very nice video! i like the production of it 👏i hope in the near future we can upload a proper page/guides for 2.0, we also have plans to include all standalone apps as installer packages, so end-user can choose later which ones wants to install.
I have 3 handheld emulation consoles: powkiddy Q90 (uses same V90 firmware), R36S that comes with ArkOS but can run Amberelec and JelOS, and a Retroid Pocket 3 that runs emulators on Android. Less than US$200 to run every emulator up to some PS2 and some Gamecube, everything else under those two emulation platforms can be played flawlessly.
Great video. This looks great for playing all the 80s and early 90s consoles in a classic form. It also has some cool physical mods to do on it as well, to improve the sound and d-pad.
I was very happy with the Pocket Go Firmware Update with Rumble for Gameboy Color. The Pow Kiddy V90 has a Motor and is great for Legend of the River King 2 with Rumble. Just take the English Version of the game and run it through the Gameboy MOM Analyzer for Windows and change the cartridge type to 1EH from the selection and fix the header afterwards till it's correct. Check the header acouple of times to be sure. This will Enable Rumble that was programmed into the Japanese version and just needs to be opened on the English Version. Oops, that first M in MOM should have been an R. My bad. Hope you figure it out.
I find it strange that people are not mentioning in the comment section the fact that the turn off method has improved. Is it reliable? Can the device be turned off that easily with this software update?
Tried this one. Put the card back into my computer to add games, but there wasn't enough room to put them, even though it said during install that it extended it.
When i compile everything on Myioo CFW 1.3.3. The things i done for PlayStation were putting a real BIOS in there update manually PCSX rearmed, replacing the script for R2 and L2. Im pre render games the game is good but for the like of krash nitro Kart it Will need frame Skip Also you need to software load the BIOS then quit. There was some kinks on the stand Alone Version of PCSX rearmed, Don't know If this Will Help?
Simple theme is a mistake. It hides some of the functionality of the firmware. Now I will have to figure out how to uninstall it. This update adds some nice features but at the cost of gameplay. GBA is less functional now than it was before. I hadn't upgraded it.
I'm having trouble copying the simplemenu folder over to the mnt/apps/ directory... I can't seem to access it when plugging the sd card into my pc (even after installing the btrfs driver on my windows pc) or when plugging the entire v90 into my pc. I can see the directory when connecting it the latter way but I get an error when trying to copy the folder over. Anyone else had this issue?
I was able to copy the simplemenu folder into /main/apps/ instead and then in the file manager on the device it shows up as /mnt/apps/ but when I try to execute the deploy.sh file it says permission denied. I then tried going in though the terminal to execute the scrip from there but it wasn't set as executable so I did chmod and set it as executable and was finally able to run deploy.sh but the instillation failed halfway though.... This can't be this complicated. I must be doing something wrong or missing something. I've reinstalled the CFW 2.0 5 times now...
@@sethgermer2858 I finally was able to get it to work. After flashing my SD card again and putting the simplemenu folder in /main/apps/ I was able to execute it from explorer without error. No idea what the difference was that last time..
While installing the CFW and going through the setup, choose "Yes" when you see the "Test Device" screen. This enabled root access. You should then be able to execute the script from Commander or from Explorer. Keep in mind that there is a glitch with Commander later if you decide you don't want to use SimpleUI anymore. If you disable SimpleUI, the "Exit" option in Commander won't work, and the V90 freezes. You'll have to manually restart. If you're gonna keep using SimpleUI though, there are no issues with exiting Commander. Hope this helps you both.
Thanks for the review. Question: i have actualy miyoo firmware with everything scrapped, etc...if i instal firmware 2.0 and if i dont like it (no scrappe, etc..), will it be possible to reinsert the old sd card with miyoo firmware, and play like it is now, or will i have to re-build a sd card with older firmware? Will it work then? Thanks again
Thank you! I always also seem to finish making a video right before someone else uploads an almost identical video to mine 😂 I'll be on the lookout for yours when you upload!
Thanks for the update video. I bought mine a while ago, and was wondering if there was any development still going on for this model. It's a really nice size and the calm shell is perfect for playing rpgs one handed. But for the $30 bucks this thing goes for I was never expecting perfect gameplay, still it performs beyond expectations and is nice for quick play sessions.
Tried it on mine, but decide to switch back to cfw 1.3.3 because retroarch. It just confusing and frustating to setup for each emulator, and yet some emu are missing like FBA. Simplemenuui is good if you only have few selections of game roms, but if you have 300+ roms of each system it's terrible because you need to wait the list to load each time you swipe the emus. I don't really care about the performance improvement that retroarch may offer. As long the previous cfw can runs most of the gba, nes, genesis, gb and gbc games i think that should wrap it. I don't even bother putting psx games because how can you expect to runs psx games smoothly on this handheld that has lot of limitation. The only good thing is it can switch off the power without to worry about "unclean shutdown" So with older OS GXmenu, for me is far better. Boot up, pick the emu, pick the game file, thats it. The only downside is still you need to extra step to shutdowm but that's reasonable enough for me.
Nope i think for that one is the hardware issues not the software. There's instruction and tutorial on the net to switch the cable inside so it can be use with usb-c to usb-c.
Hi Thank you for sharing. The power off switch and data corruption was the worst thing about the v90 for me. Half the time I would remember to soft shutdown then forget the power switch and the unit goes flat or use the switch without the soft shutdown first. So that is the #1 quality of life improvement needed lol.
