- Let's take a look at the yard on our 1970's Brooklyn- Queens based HO Scale layout. We're in the process of planning a rip-track area, engine house and street scene in and around the yard.
Thanks for watching. Please check out our site to see some of the kits featured in the video as well as over 100 HO Scale kits: fosscalemodels...

Great HO scale modeling videos, Doug!
Excellent, NYC, urban neighborhood railroad scenes!
Doug, great update, thank you for sharing your vision, and philosophy on how the layout is planned, and proceeding.
Cheers, and stay safe, Michael
Thanks Mike
Every time Yu update , I start playing " hello brooklyn " in my head... Love the work
Thx Michael, yeah it all makes me very nostalgic.
Another great video! I absolutely love seeing your layout. I also really like how high the bench work is, it really puts the viewer in the scene.
Hope you get the cast off soon.
Thx Jason - It's a nice height to view, but working on requires a step ladder!
Sorry about your cast, hope it's off soon. Great tour. Your layout is believable and interesting. You do great work. The kits you sell are also really nice. Thank you for helping keep model railroading alive.
Hey what do you know. After all my model train videos I find a person from NYC. I grew up in Brooklyn. We always played on a frieght line running alongside the "N" train from 8th Ave to 15th Ave. I am now 57 yrs old. But as a kid my friends used to surf on top of the N train. Luckily they are all still here. Although one passed away last week of natural cause. (Heart Attack) 54yrs old.
Nice to see someone modeling local trains.
incredible detail... yours and JJT are my inspiration. Tell Diesel I said hi.
Thanks Doug.
Looking great.
Thx!
Great video.
Thanks Robert!
Great video Doug. Love all of the great NYC (Queens) scenes. Brings back great memories.
Thx Frank!
Ah yes, Iron Eyes Cody who was mostly Sicilian and not so much American Indian. Anyway, I love the layout and your creativity. Thanks for sharing.
Dear Doug, very interesting how you’ve shown your different design contemplations. Love the way you will change the former engine facility into a rip track. A gantry crane with a stock of wheels and bogies, plus tank welding projects and compressors waiting for maintenance, will definitely make a very interesting scene.
On the raised plywood section; definitely think the added streets will add realism to this part of the yard. Considering the ‘island’ is rather narrow in width an angled placement of the access road would make sense. Which also will allow for the buildings to show more depth. Very cool how you play around with the mock ups.
Even though another overpass road may seem to busy, either a pipeline or elevated subway overpass will provide three dimensional ‘framing’ of the ground level vignettes. It will also provide opportunity to further increase the depth of field illusion beyond the backdrop.
Love these intricate vids on the several aspects of putting such a layout together. Definitely adds to the curiosity, creativity and inspiration. Cheerio
Thx Vincent, I just have to push myself to get to it!
great video and a very nice layout. I was lucky to have the possibility to visit the sunny side yard in the early 1980s and i especially liked the area around the sanding facility where the gg1s were services. in that area some switching also was done. Your layout captures that quite a bit. Nicely weathered equipment, but to my recollection only the subway cars was heavily painted with graffiti , most of the freightcars still were untouched. Lots of fallen flags there, just like you have. You sure have lots of possibilities there. Looking toward your next video. Thanks for a very inspiring video.
Great tour , thanks for share,is looking awesome.
Cesar
Another great look at your work Doug, hope you get that cast off soon, im sure thats no fun. A bridge over the yard would look so cool, maybe too busy like you said but it is a city. What ever you decide will look awesome, I have no doubt. Thanks for sharing. Cheers Rob. Love that hat too.
Thanks Rob!
hello for scale models- mode its is randy i like yours video is cool thanks friends randy
Just found your channel. Looks very interesting and informative. Thanks
Stai facendo un grande lavoro 👏👏🚂
Hey Doug, just " Subscribed " and found your RUclips videos. Awesome thanks for posting! I put casts on for a living I can say now crappy cast. Anyway, I'm sure you wrist is better and cast long gone
Thanks for subscribing, yeah that was last year...forgot all about it!
Hey Doug, thanks for showing your beautiful layout. By the way: what happened to your left arm?
If it modeling the Brooklyn water front some way to represent Bush Terminal would be awesome
I might use it in part of the photo backdrop somewhere.
That is a nice little yard scene, I think a little height will look good in that’s street scene, at least a couple of buildings with 3 or 4 stories. (What happened to your wrist?)
Thanks for watching - WRIST: I took a few unplanned steps backwards down some steps, carrying too many bags of groceries...
@@FosScaleModels ouch. Hope it heals soon.
GREAT VIDEO! MAKE THE PEDESTRIAN BRIDGE OVER THE TRACKS FROM THE STREET SECTION! I don't think it'd be as "busy" as you think; but actually, a nice focal point and a way to break the linear lines of the layout!!! What do you think?
Pedestrian bridge... hadn't thought of that, interesting idea, thx!
Model railroading can be hazardous to your heath! I've cut many fingers with x-acto blades, and I even got a cast on my wrist once from taking pictures of the layout (long story). What happened to you? Was Diesel in a stubborn mood?
UH OH!!!! Were you being bad with “Diesel” and ‘fall down go boom’??? LOL😂 Hope Ya left wrist heals well and fast!! 3:34
Thx Cesar
@@FosScaleModels 😇😅
Thanks for the update…question…what track did you use for your layout ?
Yeah I should have mentioned, it's all Code 83 Peco
Why is it that once you build your layout do you want to hide it? Putting those huge buildings will hide the layout where having small industry's you can still see your operation.
Yes the 70's just seemed to be so grimy, smogy, and just dirty from what I remember growing up in Southern Michigan around allot of automobile industries.
Soon to have a first hand look..... busted forearm, or wrist?
Wrist, broken or fractured, they're still not sure , waiting on MRI results.
