Was always a ptfe guy, use liquid thread sealant in my day job(factory machinery) and sold. Loctite at work but used rapid blue on all my house rads and was great.
great video Mark and love the craic you have with the rest of them I have old think its 10mm copper or maybe 8mm pipes should have got them changed before the flooring went down slipped up there
Floorboards in my middle bedroom got painted yellow, not all very similar to what you showed, probably 80's too. Carpets downstairs were 80s judging by newspapers underneath
From plumber to plumber buddy...quick way to measure so rad falls above skirting correct...measure bottom of rad to bottom of bracket then measure off the top of skirting and add and inch or 2 so it suites the others in the house 🤜 craking job btw mate
@@MJTiffPlumbing your certainly right there mate...you never stop learning in plumbing so atleast our days fly by haha good content pal keep up the good graft!!
When you were connecting the newly cut pipes to the existing ones, what was that tool that you used that looked like a pair of pliers which made like a grinding sound? Is it like a soldering/torque/crimping kind of tool to hold the pipes in place?
Great video, as usual. That thick walled copper looks pretty old - surprised it wasn’t imperial. Do you know if there are any issues pressing old imperial pipe?
Hi Mark, I have been following your channel for a few months now and really enjoying your content. I'm wondering why you had to hook a new pipe and do a new T junction for the tubing to the left side of the radiator rather than just shortening the edge of the tube which was already there. Thank you
I tried using loctite liquid on a towel radiator.. had to use a chrome tee on one side due to having a heating element.. left it overnight and was still spinning the next day .. ptfe tape is a physical barrier that creates a decent seal . Not convinced with liquid loctite...
Yes, 1970’s thick gauge copper always had that blue “Yorkshire” sticker on it. That would be old 1/2” imperial. I had to rip some blue stickered 1 1/4” copper out about 6 months ago from a 1970’s plantroom.
Hey mate, nothing to do with this vid but where did u get the foldable buckets to catch the rad water? And is that wat its properly called ? Cheers bud
Blue seal is fab for 25 years never even used PTFE and never had an issue but I find it's the quality of the products nowadays is not as good as I just started using the blue seal and again never had an issue
Hi Mark you mentioned copper shortage during the 70s never used stainless steel here in west wales but was supplied with copper but you could not bend it it was so hard it would split if you tried so we had to use loads of fittings Cheers
Hi Mark, a nice job with the press and that pipe work, nice to see some of the old thicker walled copper pipe. The radiator job for the carpenter is it all 10mm pipe on every rad? The little cloak room is looking great now, that’s another one in the bag. Have a great week, take care, regards Chris. 👍👍👍
Ime the same as you mate dont know why but just don't trust that rapid blue. I am a convert to the 55 though. Just old school i think. Top content mate keep it coming
Hi Mark I think the “ stainless steel “ pipe you referred to early on in the video was a silver coloured type of zinc based stuff used as an alternative to copper in the 1970s I remember it well we used to come across loads of it here It was fuckin shite too , used to leak everywhere on the joints if you so much as looked at it 😂 Nice finish to that job there mate 👍
@@MJTiffPlumbing vaguely remember this from common processes in college last year. Isnt that copper pipe thats like a threaded steel rod and all the fittings screw onto it. Meant to be rare as hens teeth now. German I think?

Nice couple of easy jobs this week, makes a change. Great video 👍
Certainly does Keith….👍🏼👌🏼
Great video, as usual.
That thick walled copper looks pretty old - surprised it wasn’t imperial. Do you know if there are any issues pressing old imperial pipe?
Yep would have been 60’s/70’s I think…..
Not too sure about pressing onto imperial
Great video mate, loving the banter with the other fellas 😂😂
Thanks mate
They were some fair old swept tees on that rad job Mark.
Never seen any like that before on copper pipework

Was just easier to be honest mate…. As the original pipework was the “wrong” side of the floor joist….

I've found the liquid PTFE no good on shiny chrome fittings 💦
How are you finding the Erbauer 20v range? Recently bought a couple of their tools myself and for the money I can't complain.
Can’t fault them at all for the money…. I have an SDS, angle grinder, multitool and jigsaw….. never had an issue

I’ve come across it twice now it’s a threaded copper tube you can get adapters for it no idea why it was used though
20 thread was used in the late 1920s , early 30s all half inch pipe
So sad to see press fit being used so much over traditional soldering, gonna be a lost skill some day
I think soldering will never do away as it’s traditional…. But evolution of any trade happens.
