I’ve been watching your channel since day 1, this is the reason why; real life plumbing. A few chosen words later and all fixed. Great content again Mark, thank you.
I know you could do without the stress but disasters like that make the clips well worth a watch, plus we get to find out some top tips like soldering the hole 😀
Excellent video Mark, for the pipe repair half a copper olive solders over a hole nicely too, thank god the tilers didn't back butter, it came off too easy.
Love the videos. I’m college trained and do small jobs. Building up to try go self employed soon. Really helping me understand the real world of plumbing. Keep it up bingeing all your videos at the moment
Hi Mark, that was a good one mate, yes I have done similar in my own house. I should have known better because I had installed the 15mm pipe that I put the screw through 🤦♂️. At the time I had only been plumbing about 40 years so I suppose I was still quite new at it. When you do anything like that on a site someone always says “should we call a plumber” ? and the answer is no f#&* off 😂😂😂😂 A great film, have a great week and take care, regards Chris 👍👍👍
Learnt a new trick from you today with the brushing solder over a hole in a pipe, cheers for that. I’m 2nd year apprentice, my boss has done the exact same waste pipe problem as you, he clipped it in with CT1 instead of screws though, seemed to work 😅
That screw in the pipe was a great save. Never knew you can blob a bit solder onto the outside of the pipe. Hopefully wont ever need to try it. Enjoying your videos mate
Brilliant video! You were pretty unlucky with that pipe but demonstrated a practical solution! (I seem to remember doing something similar in the past and it held fine.) When you started fitting that toilet, I thought it was going to end up a “Spanish arrangement” (from your recent short) until you pointed out a cubicle was being fitted! 😂
Well done mate tricky job soldering over the screw hole there is always a way to get around problems good job you didnt clip the waste pipe good luck with the rest of the project
Had to do that in a block of flats, think it was inch and half rising main in copper, my mate nicked it with an angle grinder of all things! Just whipped it, old school plumbing! Take care mate
We have all been there.I did it once as I didn't trust my apprentice screwing the floorboards back at the end of a job (6pm) customer all happy downstairs talking to my apprentice, everything packed away except for driver and screws I'm upstairs and screw through central heating and gas pipe twice, water dripping through light fitting below. Then you just knew it was a late finish and try not to panic or show your frustration in front of customer but we have to sort it out regardless.....If you are like me I never remember all the jobs that were perfect,I will always remember the nightmare jobs and customers ...keep it real 👍🏽
Great video Mark . Shit happens , it’s how you deal with it that matters . I always drill what I term as a scratch hole ! In other words I drill into the plasterboard , then get my torch and a fine screwdriver to check there are no pipes , when I’m satisfied there are no pipes , I continue to drill .
the fiber washers go between the metal washer and the bolt head inside the cistern or you'll get water from in the cistern going between the metal to metal contact between the bolt head and top washer and going down the thread. schoolboy error, some manufactures don't supply em so i use a bit of ptfe under the bolt head.
We have all done it at some stage!! I note one of your subscribers mentioned a WALBOT f**king expensive piece of kit £280?? great vid mark.. I admire your honesty for not editing the video. With regards to not clipping the waste pipe, along as it's supported, and it's being boxed in anyway!. nice one mate👍👍
Bro, your showing life of a real plumbers nightmare and it not a cowboys jobs, it’s what you have to work with and do when there is nothing else you can do 👍🏾
Cheers for sharing. Maybe use a thinish flat blade screwdriver to make a hole for the rawl plug and if you hit a pipe with the screwdriver no harm done. 👍 saved my bacon a few times! 🤣
Oh ya, been there. There is a nice little gadget called a Walbot that connects to you phone and is a mega stud finder that would have shown you that there was a pipe there. Might want to give it a look.
😄😄😄 Top drawer, Mark. It's little to do with what happened, and more to do with what happens next. Take the enormity in for a few seconds, and then on your toes with a remedy. Shows it can happen to the best of us, I imagine all of us at some point. All about the reaction, superb move. And you had me 🤣🤣 when you said you don't care if anyone came at you!! You know it, another time, with more time, you'd have possibly added another screw but sod it, one screw is good, it's secured, be behind a panel, jog on!! 🖕🖕
Crikey that was awkward, good repair. 😬 I had fun this week second fixing a bog with a concealed cistern. Turns out the tiled floor is going downhill. Bogs tight to wall at bottom, can get fingers down the top of it. Site manager says get chippys frame packers under it. Gonna need a good 10mm thick bead all round it. 🙈😂.
I was fitting a kitchen cupboard once and knew there was an electrical cable in the wall so marked it and then drilled through it . Shit happens lol . Excellent video mate
Good call about getting those brass screw pipe fitted to the toilet cistern filler ... Putting a screw in the pipe we have all done that can't be helped just one of those little problems that catch us out 😯😯
Best one I’ve seen was when I was an apprentice I went to help another plumber who was a mate of my bosses , he’d 1st fixed a kitchen on the Monday & we went to 2nd fix & alter some radiators on the Friday! He measured up for the new waste hole ,marked it & told me to drill it ! U guessed it straight through te hot n cold that he’d put in on the Monday !! He’d forgotten where he’d put the pipes 😂😂
Hi Mark. Was a good for you till the screw went in the pipe. Most people would have taken that clip out. Not you real world plumbing mate. Looking forward to the sink parts being fitted. Have a good week mate 👍
I definitely would have drilled into that too. Good lesson though to put those metal plates over the pipes when going through joints, which I have never done but will do now as I would have cried if that had happened to me 😂
Sorry but I would of ripped it all out and replaced it that bit of pipe just for pice off mine I know the lead wipe thing works but I would of took over tile off and renewed the pipe for how long it would of took to do
Doesn't matter what it looks like it got you out of a hole and it's going to be boxed in so fair play to you mark take no notice of the moaning 👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
We’ve all done it, then you’ll say “should of taken pics of where they are” I hate running pipes and cables across walls because of this. Mitre bond or sticks like the clips on, leave the support pipes as well then your really covered

Each to their own, but I would of had to get a slip socket over it for me, I just wouldn’t trust it. Great video as always!

Thanks mate glad you enjoyed it

Thanks mate, yep old school hack
Good job you're a plumber Mark! We've all done it but that doesn't make it any less annoying particularly where you've got tiles too!
Yep I knew as soon as the screw went in… it’s like a sixth sense of impending doom🤣🤣
Nice bodge mate 😁 we’ve all done it.
I’ve even stuck waste pipes onto plasterboard with CT1 rather than risk screwing through it.
CT1 to the rescue 👌🏼
First class as always Mark......
Thanks as always Shaun

Two top tips in one video - nice one Mark, learned something there.

Well done in a nightmare situation. We have all been there. We are always one drill away from OH NO!😅😅😅

Proper old school 👌🏼👌🏼👍🏼👍🏼
Great video. Real life plumbing deffo lol. Hopefully chippy doesn’t screw though pipe too 👍👍
Thanks mate👍🏼👍🏼
Does anyone know why the studs on the cistern fixing plate are soo long. I’ve never fitted a cistern needing anywhere near the length they supply.
Just how they came mate
to repair screw hole try Screwfix 5962v pipe patch. I made something similar using a 15mm coupler with a slot cut out, worked a treat!
Yep that works aswell👌🏼👍🏼
Great work matey. I'd have screwed the screw back in the hole, trimmed it off, leaving it like a plug 🤪
Hahaha… I’m sure some people would🤣
I have seen it all now 🤣🤣 Good wee trick defo gonna use keep it up 👍
Thanks mate….. it’s all about passing on the tips and tricks
Well done Mark thats why your the best on hear all the best mate/kev

100% right mate….. don’t panic and just get it sorted asap
Real world plumbing I have never tired that trick before in the back of my head I would always be thinking would it hold but it is so well done mate
Thanks mate…. Old school trick 👍🏼👍🏼
Decent save. Maybe shorter screws?
Or avoid the pipes🤣
Can we see the quooker tap install? Thinking of getting one!
Coming soon mate 👍🏼👍🏼

What were the fibre washers for Mark in the pack of cistern fittings?
You can use them on the wingnuts
@@MJTiffPlumbing ahh ok, thanks for the reply 🙂

Wrap some bare copper wire over the hole a few times, flux and solder. Thinner wire of course works better.
Or blob it like this 👍🏼👍🏼

I normally cut a coupler in half and solder on the top of the hole, but your it's good idea.
Yep I’ve done that 👌🏼👍🏼
Love that problem solving! But no signature MJ van intro??
Thanks mate….. not this week buddy, this video was edited up while I’ve been away 👍🏼

Think screwfix sell pipe covers with solder in them used them a few times never had an issue with them but good repair under circumstances
Thanks mate

Ohhh I will take a look for that
That’s definitely gonna be a future leak for someone to fix
Why’s that then buddy….
It’s a common fix and one I’ve done so many times over 30years and never had an issue…. Done right and it is fine
Hmmm - is that going to last ???
Yep…. Just the same as soldering a joint👌🏼
You could use CT1 to stick the upper part of the clip
Indeed I could
isnt that wood gonna stink for ages? And how long is this gonna last?
No and forever 👍🏼👍🏼

Mark a space saver pan connector should get you a couple inches closer to the wall.

Araldite the clips on.
Sod the screws. 😂
No screws are going near this job now🤣🤣
Always have a bit of bar solder in the van for them pesky screwed pipe. Much easier than using leaded solder and doesn’t require as much heat.
Good idea 👍🏼
I’d have soldered a coupling (cut into a quarter) over the screw hole. Belt and braces like!
Great tips that
Best one I’ve seen was when I was an apprentice I went to help another plumber who was a mate of my bosses , he’d 1st fixed a kitchen on the Monday & we went to 2nd fix & alter some radiators on the Friday! Thank f you didn't get your press fit gun out to repair that hole! Yippee! Mark used his solder. 😉
You couldn’t repair a hole with a press gun😉
Press has its place…. As does solder
Brave mate. Other tile off, cut cut bosh no sleepless nights.
Would have needed 4 tiles off…..
The best one I did was tiling before I fixed the bath in, putting the bat up screwed through the pipe dispite being able to see it about 12ins below
Oh gutted mate…. We are all human
Nightmare one of those solder patches would of been ideal hopefully the blob of solder holds 😂
Yep worth having some on the van….. never had an issue with doing blobs if done right
Couldn't of you just glued a couple of wooden blocks to the wall to support the pipe?
Possibly
Real life shit hits the fan plumbing.
We’ve all done it mate. More than most will admit
Indeed mate…. 👍🏼👍🏼
nice work kiddo

CT1 a batten under the tile line and fix the clips to that, it’s what the chippy will do to fix his box section to.
