Brilliant video Tom funny how your tone changed when you said “ And now it’s leaking that way” totally priceless, your tone conveyed your frustration superbly. Wow! Really enjoyed the soap box race fantastic effort fair play Tom.
Crikey that bath waste looked a bit tricky Tom. It allways amazes me why people have there baths fully tiled in and taps at the back of the wall. Anything goes wrong under that bath then it's usually a case of tile carnage. Everything seems to be form over function these days. Love your vids Tom, you are such refreshingly down to earth guy with no pretentious whatsoever. The cart racing looked great it'll be Red Bull soap race next! Keep up the great work 😊
Thanks for the support Rob, I'm so pleased you enjoy the videos, I would love to Red bull, I reckon the one where they fly off the pier would be a good laugh
Because they have no concept of the maintenance issues and hurdles that have to be overcome when something as simple as a deformed washer needs to be replaced.
You can have form and function. You just silicone one of the tiles in with a silicone that matches the grout, then you have an access panel without destroying anything.
Very neat and tidy work you did all those years ago. It was so tidy it certainly looked more as if it was just a recent job. That race also looked a lot of fun Tom. 👍
Thanks for the support as always mate, I was trying to think back exactly when I did it but it must be at least 8 years ago, time flies by to be honest, I don't think the building gets much use so that's why it still looks new
Hi Tom, some fiddly jobs on there, yep any call back can be a pain, especially if it was not your work in the first place. The soapbox racing looked great fun, well done, have a great week. 👍👍👍
Thanks for the support as always Chris, the soap box race was great fun, it would have been nice to finish a bit higher up but we will be back next year
Unlucky with the call back, fingers crossed 🤞 you’ve got this time sorted , soapbox looked brilliant , you have to do an experiment with the wheel sizes , looks like you all had a great time , and that’s what God said, come forth. 😂😂😂😂👍👍👍🙋♂️
Thanks for the support as always mate, we are going to re-design it completely and spend more than a day on it, I think bigger wheels and a lighter car will go better
Thanks for the support mate, we are looking at doing it again next year, it was a great day and we raised a fair bit of money for the air ambulance which is always nice
Have the same Issue one pinhole after the other every couple of month or years. Do you think its caused by the direct exposure of copper to the concrete?
You get this with copper sometimes , repair it in one place then another pinhole appears out of the blue not far away soon after Remove as much as possible but not that easy when the whole floor needs ripping up 😫
The majority of the time, these leaks are caused by flux residue. It's just pure laziness. The pipe wasn't embedded in screed and was wrapped pretty well. I'd say it wasn't cleaned properly on installation. I've seen flux eat through flex pipe connections before, especially laco. When we have youngsters working with us, you have to drill em on cleaning their soldering work when finished. The rothenberger hose trigger torch is a beast for sweating awkward joints like that, bud.
Nice work on the soap box , it's about having a good day rather than worrying about what place you come. That bath waste was poor , a shallow trap and a flexy pipe . Usual Diy or bodgit and scarper job
True mate, I maybe should have changed the flexi but sometimes is knowing where to stop, you don't always get thanked and some customers just see it as adding to the bill, thanks for the support as always
flux has worn it through. why my old teacher always said "clean ur pipes and make them shinny like u using brasso then u dont get call backs" my original thought was corrosion from cement but looks like its flux dmg as its gone green and oxidised.
I think it was flux, I was always taught like you, make sure all flux is wiped off, I know some fluxes were more prone than others, thanks for watching mate
Sods law dictates that there will always be a time when you will get called back to fix something other than a repair you did. Plumbing is one of those types of jobs that a leak on a pipe you repaired means, in the customer's eyes, you are responsible even if the repair you did is still good Just remember The customer is always right!! Even when they are wrong I've found your reputation relies on how you deal with call backs,
Jobs like this are time and material, I was on site around an hour and there was less than £10 in material, one thing I would say it's not just the material you see, there is flux, solder, blue roll, cutting blades as well, I know you don't charge them individually on every job, but they still get used up and need replacing. Once you have your hourly rate, it's just add that to the materials and you have your price
There was branches off to feed the utility and cloakroom, it may need re-piping but the customer just opted to have this leaked fixed, they are going to leave the hole open for a while now to monitor, thanks for watching
Most plumbers wouldn't warranty it since it occurred at a different location than the original repair, so as you said not your fault. But I would just to make the customer happy, and then explain to them again it's possible this might happen in multiple places, but we are only warranting the area we WORKED on, not the whole pipe with different leaks that appear every couple months. If you want to avoid that possibility, go for a recipe - then we'll warranty the whole pipe. Strange situation indeed but good work!
Thanks for the support mate, I have now explained to the customer that the pipe may need replacing, they opted to leave it for now but at least they can budget for it. It always a tricky one because you don't won't to replace something for no reason but sometimes there is no other option
Well another 6 months then you will be back 😯.bound to leak again.. Don't you just love the call backs . And when you get there its nothing you have done anyway 😦.. have had that a few times.. Looks like you all had a good time at the kart race 👍👍👍👍 Missed it as away 😦
Out of curiosity, you mentioned you "only have solder ring couplers". I just used a bunch on a DIY job as they made the whole thing much less intimidating, but... are they bad? Or just a bit less reliable than end-feed soldering?
The pre soldered fittings are more expensive and plumbers are cheap skates . End feed fittings are as easy as pre soldered . With end feed you know you have the whole fitting hot enough to melt the solder all round by applying the heat to one side and solder to the other. Pre soldered can melt where the flame is applied but not the other side giving a poor joint and leaks .
I have just done my 3rd Keith, I wasn't that impressed with some of the questions though as they were outdated, I did email the exam board but they haven't bothered replying
Just saw the comments about Yorkshire fittings and i would say that they are 'premium' fittings. Years ago when stuff was specified for any NHS job or council or university it was always Yorkshire fittings with brass munsuns or 2 piece clips. Tackled some 3" ones once. They are a completely different beast to a normal Yorkshire fiitting.
You are right, I used to do a lot of school work as an apprentice and the specs was always Yorkshire fittings and brass clips, thanks for watching as always Paul 👍
It probably is mate, it's one of them where you just have to say to the customer it may leak again, they are leaving the area open to monitor, thanks for the support as always Andrew
@@PlumbLikeTom works wonders mate. Ideally you need to really workout what leg has the leak, its usually the rad that always gets air in it, so just isolate all other rads and force the sealer to that leg.
What a horrible floor system who designs this mess? My brother in law has a floor like this. One of his C/H pipes was leaking for years. He kept topping up the radiators.
Not in same spot means not your fault and there pipes are crap. People think you touch there toilet you own the pipes in a kitchen. Broken toilet seat a little duck or gaff tape
From the customers perspective, a £100 plumbing job turns out to need another £200 for the other materials and other trades involved..Then (if they have it) their house insurance has fine print that excludes a large amount no plumbing work...I know because I was caught on that...

Good job👍🏼Pretty short-sighted of the customer not to want the whole line replaced, but at least it will give you or another plumber future work.
I did give them the option, I haven't been back yet so hopefully it holds for them, thanks for the support as always
Hi Tom who needs two hands mate🤣🤣 run of the mill jobs 🙊 Ps i loved how the sparky and the trainee are expendable 🤣🤣
It was quite a nice day, nothing too stressful, thanks for watching as always mate 👍
Great video Tom...love the soap box race 😎😎😎 The leak you had on that copper pipe is generally impurities in the copper 👍👍👍
Thanks for the support as always pb, glad you enjoyed the soap box part
Great video Tom. Soap box race looked like a brilliant fun day out!
Thanks for the support as always Steve, it was a great day
My mate was there, he was Del Boy in 'Team Cushty' looked like a great day 👍 and I think your channel is really good, keep the vids coming 👍
Thanks for the support Warren, I think there cart was the best looking, hopefully they hold the event again next year as it was a really great day

I think we might need to up our game
Nice work as always. Heating up the waste pipe is a good get out of jail fix.
Thanks for the support as always mate, I think we have all done it at some point to get us out the muck
That soap box race was fantastic, great sports so well done, hope everyone enjoyed it. Take care 👍🚽
Thanks for the support as always Peter, it was a great day out
I’ve had a few of those recalls
Congratulations Tom on your soap box race, next year guaranteed first place winners.
Hopefully Steve, we might spend more than a day building it, thanks for watching as always mate
Brilliant well done on the race 👏👏👏👏👏

Almost certainly another call back when the pipe leaks again. Appreciate you can only do what customer wants but the whole pipe needed replacing!
True, I did give them the option, at least now they know and can budget for potential replacement, thanks for watching Dave
You will be ready for the Redbull race next year Tom 😂,
Two blow lamps on the back and you will be first place 🥇
Brilliant video 😂
😎👍🤜
Thanks for the support as always Tony, I did suggest setting fire to it on the last run, it would have made the lads more a bit quicker
Cracking video fella. If you do that next year let me know and I will get my company to sponsor you.👍

Concrete certainly doesn't help, sometimes pipes just get old and thin
nice bit screwdriver chisel action 🤣🤣👍 was that an expensive shiny stainless wera screwdriver i spied?
Thanks for the support as always Pete, it is out last years wera advent calendar, quite a nice little set
Should put Denzo waxed tape around copper pipes which are cemented over
Thanks for watching mate, I left these open for the time being, the pipes were wrapped and protected
You’ve got a tractor? Loving that from a Wiltshire fella 😀
It's my dads tractor, thanks for watching as always Andrew 👍
