This video shows how to perform a boost leak test on an Audi A4 1.8 Turbo. There are many ways to do the test but the concept is the same.

Love your video! Good way to check for leaks and get to the source of the Problem!!
Great video! Thank you.
@cjt74 2 3/4" pvc pipe cap end , drill a hole, put a air hose fitting in there with a nut on the other side, use a rubber washer if u want for a good seal, ur gonna want a pressure regulator with a gauge, set it to 5 psi like he says, and go for it, i did this and its not testing anything to do with my turbo, i had really nasty rotted out hoses under my intake manifold that were part of my crankcase ventilation system. this is a very good test to do and his kits are very nice
What's the name of that part you had to replace? Mines busted on my passat 1.8t as well.
So you removed the diverter valve and plug the seal in the intake where the air filter is, right? But you have to plug something together where the dv was no?? Answer me please i want to do it on my vw thx
neat video very well done. now im worried that i have a boost leak in my 1.8t GTI. lol
what size is the cap that goes into the intake hose? i want to make one of these.
This video was very informative, but is it really worth me buying a kit and compressor to test it myself? also where r u located cause I'm looking for a good mechanic for my Audi A4 1.8.Im n dc and it hard to find a good Audi mechanic..
will this work on a Mazdaspeed 3 with the stock turbo (K04) ?
hi trying you boost leas tester for the first time exactly as in the video and and I am getting nothing on the dial but not hearing any air escaping the system either. ?
Did plugin the elbow work?
Can you do a kit for a Mitsubishi Eclipse DOHC 2.0?
I really need one.
How do I know if my 99 vw pasatt turbo is working. It feels like a small 4 cyl with no turbo in my opinion. I want to upgrade it to get more power anyway. Is there something you guys suggest that can boost up my hp? what price range?
i want to go buy some stuff to test my own boost on my audi a4, and you are saying you plugged it with "a brass plug" i guess its probably a stupid question but is it just a piece of brass shoved in there with a hose clamp?
For everyone asking if this will work for their car. It will. All you are doing is pressurizing the intake piping between the turbo and the intake manifold to hear for leaks. The only thing that may need to be adapted is the size of piping you use, etc. You just adapt it to you car.
Hi
Do you have anything for a 2.0 tdi golf?
I have an a4 and the wires and the connector included, that go attatched to the sparkplug connectors., mine are all worn out, is there a way to get just the connectors.. mine have all nearly detiriated. i noticed the ones going to this cars spark plugs are like metal mine were all pretty much plastic
Great vid. How do I contact you about those kits?
Hey guys, i got a vw passat 1.8t.....how do i know if i need to check this? its it gona show up as a check engine light or will i notice the turbo lag?
Where did you buy your tester at
man i wish this was a s4 any idea on how to do it on a audi s4 2000??
The part they he removed is not the DV valve that is on the charge pipe. when testing for leaks components before the turbo do not matter because they are not under pressure hope this helps.
go on ebay and by a boost leak tester you dont need a compressor because it comes with Tyre valve so you can use a nop
would testing for a boost leak through the turbo intake pipe make the turbo spool up without oil being fed to it? resulting in a premature bearing failure?
No. He's just pressurizing the system to check for leaks. There's no exhaust moving through the hot side of the turbo to spin the wheel.
u need to tap the intake and compress after turbo
Where r u located?
Can you please email me with the details on this tester?
I just looked up ur site. im trying to order the Premium Boost leak tester kits for the same car.2002 Audi A4 1.8T. HIt me up!
@makegoHuja swap it with sr20det ;)
People, that wasn't the DV he removed, it was the PCV valve. For some Audi's it's near the firewall on the passenger side of the valve cover above the Combi (egr) valve. Question: Would this test be a bit more accurate and helpful if you removed the large intake hose at the throttle valve and plugged the hose to prevent the pressurized air from going past the throttle plate and into the combustion chambers? It seems like the air escaping the oil cap opening would distract you from hearing smaller leaks.
Prv not pcv.. Pcv is under the intake manifold.
What is the PRV? Your PCV is either on your charge piping/intake right after the MAF, near the firewall above the combi valve behind the valve cover, or on the valve cover itself (VW's).
Pressure relief valve, also called the "Pancake" valve, while, yes, it is part of the PCV system, the actual PCV valve is located under the intake manifold on the block.
Also the combi-valve is not for EGR, these cars do not have EGR, they have a SAI, or secondary air injection system.
Gotcha. That's why I ( ) EGR, becsuse some people don't know what the combi valve is, but its basically the equivalent.
Yes, the prv is the little rubber cylinder right by the oil filter (Y).
PCV is the little rubber cylinder right by the oil filter
EGR does not Equal SAI at all. lol
my buddy has '00 s4 and is having trouble building boost quickly. its set for 15psi but falls on its face around 10-12psi. is this a leak? or something more. Ive been telling him to get it leak tested. he can build boost gradually, but any sort of strong pull its cuts out at 10-12psi. any info would be helpful
Glad to get back to you so quickly!! He needs to just test for leaks. There’s no reason to buy parts. Unless you KNOW they’re bad. Like you’re sure. (This is in case someone reads later)
@@risingstar1309 cars gone but I still love b5 s4s!
That's not the BOV/Recirc valve, that's part of the PCV.
You aren't supposed to remove the recirc valve. How are you supposed to test boost leaks with components removed? You are supposed to test the system through the turbo charger with all components connected for complete and accurate results.
It doesnt matter turbo or not. Hes just checking if theres a vacuum leak..
what if you know you already have a leak or are not getting full boost? how does this help?
You would find where the leak is so you can repair it lol
Hello captain obvious.
Then what the fuck are you asking? The whole point of this test is so you can LOCATE the leak. You're a moron.
I was simply asking how does this kit help if you already know you have a leak dumb dumb. It's not a smoke device so it would be as useless as your response. Why buy a tool to tell me what I already know? I'm still going to have to find the source.
You'll be able to find it because there will be a hissing sound coming from whatever hole there is.
gloves dude. lol
Audis best car.to drive people only hate audis cuz they dont know how to work on a real car and give up #quitter
Video to dark
Audis are the greatest piece of shit every sold to the world. I REALLY HATE AUDIS.
