The next-gen version is the deluxe version which comes with the extra characters and outfits. It costs no more than the last-gen version if you went with the deluxe edition. My upgrade was free because I actually care about the Tony Hawk games.
It's actually 2 different games. I think the original versions played better since the newer mechanics kinda break the difficulty of the game. The dreamcast versions of both Tony Hawk 1 and 2 are still the definitive versions of the original Game. This is a great collection though, but Xbox really screwed their fans by making anyone who bought a physical copy of this have to buy the game again digitally at full price just to get the next gen upgrade.

I recently got a LG CX 55'(Costco just dropped the price on these another $100) and it's hard to explain how amazing 120fps feels on this game. Some games just need it, and this is one that feels so much smoother and snappier which is pretty important. I would take a double frame rate jump every time especially on a good TV because it's really hard to notice the slight drop in quality but the frame rate increase makes the experience so much better. Still pissed over the whole upgrade situation but they nailed this remake and you've got to experience the performance mode.
It runs at 1440p on 4k screens ofcourse and the 120hz mode is 1440p but I agree it should support 1440p native screens I hope Sony is looking into this.
I luckily enough have a Lg CX5 and Tony Hawk sooo smooth in 120hz. After an hour I switched to fidelity mode and couldn't stop noticing the tiny judder from 60hz, that I never saw pre update. Funny how your eyes get used to the higher framerate.
I had the same experience lol. I never played a 120fps game before and after I played this game in that mode for a few hours, going back to 60fps looked like a slideshow which I wouldn't believe was possible lol. The controls felt sluggish in 60fps afterwards as well.
Thanks for the warning, I was going to hook the PS5 to a 165hz monitor and test out this performance mode but seeing as you both can’t go back to the fidelity option because it feels slow, I’ll just keep it hooked to the 4K big screen as not to sour that experience
I personally prefer native 4K @min60hz or native 8K @30hz for gaming, i already feel, see and played games at 144hz, 240hz via PC..its really damn smooth but the res for my eyes still blurry, yeap i used big screen display if played on small screen doesnt matter below native 4K :D..hopes PS9 or Xbox Series XXXX can do 8K native res @min120hz with ultra/extreem/insane setting
Great video as always. But, Alex, pls consider using compressor on your voice. Sometimes when you're exited the volume levels are quite inconsistent. Just a tip. Keep up good work.
Such a good setup, basically perfect. thats pretty good marketing too, saying PS5 is 1440p without actually supporting 1440p natives support is kind of weird so I get it. they need to step up with the updates as 1440p is becoming popular and the logical resolution upgrade along monitor gamers, even though it really doesnt matter for those that have a setup that supports the higher bandwidth signal it would be best for everyone

The difference in dynamic range is much more likely a difference in the consoles (and their apis) themselves handling of color, rather than anything the game did. You should always be calibrating every game's brightness and HDR settings, which would make this stuff irrelevant.
Not exactly bud. You are correct in some games and applications, but you can follow the calibrations tools to an exact match on the same game across two consoles, and get different results. 1, HDR is calibrated at the System AND game levels. 2, you yourself JUST said that consoles handles color differently, and the not something the game did. By that logic, you are admitting that the same game can look different on two different consoles. I have both current Gen, had both last Gen, had always had every console. Color depths and processing in the ps5 vs XSX can result in pretty different HDR levels b

I think changes like this are great to have in last-gen games being supported by next-gen consoles. I think one feature that would be great to adopt from the PC space for games like this one, would be to allow a player to adjust the game's resolution and frame-rate cap. While both 4k 60 and 1440p 120 are great options, it would be great to have a middle ground or maybe play at 4k and enjoy the overhead into higher frame-rates when it happens, or set an automatic resolution scale to between say 1600p and 1800p and enjoy 90fps or so. I feel that this option would be pleasing to many people, as the difference between 60fps and 90fps or even up to 120fps is not as visually jarring as the differences between 30fps and 60fps. Especially with the growing support of VRR (*ahem* Sony).
Across all platforms it seems like the performance and fidelity is close enough to where you can choose a version based on what controller you like best. For extreme sports games, the Ps5 is where it’s at for me
@@Andre217 any game running on PS5 that supports 1440p will downsample the image to 1080p and it still looks fantastic, almost better in some cases where DRS isn’t involved - 13:13 as evidence pointed out in the video we’re commenting on.
I'm normally one of those annoying "pcmr" types. The tldr of my arguments is that at msrp you can save a ton of money over time by playing on PC. I never advocate for piracy, so that isn't accounted for in my arguments, but good luck getting a PC at msrp right now. However the PS5 and XBSX are seriously good hardware for the price right now, and the aforementioned issues getting PC parts at msrp make the consoles even more appealing. TLDR: If you can get one, do it.
For anyone wanting to upgrade(DIGITAL ONLY) to the Series console version: Go to the store page for the last gen version, then scroll down to the "add-ons for this game" section and the first option should be the next gen upgrade.
I miss being able to cap frame rates like on PC. I wish there was a system wide frame rate limiter on XSX and PS5. That way if a game is poorly optimised (especially preview/beta games) you could reduce the frame rate a little. There were a few games I ran at 50fps because my pc was too old to do 60fps.
Your TV's settings are messed up. Don't blame the game. In this video clearly it's all fine with it. If you are experiencing issues with the image that's because the issue is your TV.

For real, I had been holding off on this and when I saw they had an upgrade just as I got my series s, I was interested, but not anymore that I have to pay an extra $10 than the last gen version. Especially makes no sense when you consider that Crash 4 got a free next gen upgrade and is at like $40 now.
But, but, but it supports the devs!
Should read the nonsense THQ is writing on Twitter to justify their $10 upgrade for their games.

This game is so underrated it's legit one of the greatest games ever made.
I have no idea what "underrated" is supposed to mean in this context. Highly anticipated remake that reviewed well and gave everyone what they wanted with minimal things to nitpick.
Calm down
Yet another example of people not knowing what “underrated” means. Tony Hawk’s pro skater games were huge and beloved back in the days.
This early in the generation, the news would be if it ran poorly. Both platforms are powerful enough that we won't hit their cap for a while. Nice to see 120fps though!
and at 1440p!
I'd be perfectly fine playing this game on either platform. All the consoles are running the game very well. I just hope I can get a 120Hz TV this fall for a good price.
Here in the UK, the cheapest TV I've found, which has HDMI 2.1, which allows for 120 fps is £770.
You guys should see the reviews for the upgrade on the Xbox store. 😂

Damn rip
Still a legend
Wow same thing happened to me
To upgrade from Xbox One to Xbox Series X I had to go to the game page in the Xbox store, go to the DLC section, buy the cross-gen upgrade patch (which does nothing to the actual game), I could then switch my version inside the store to "Xbox Series X-version".. and THEN choose download... (and then delete the old version). They have to make this easier to do.
If someone two years ago told me that DF would be making videos about console games that rarely dip below 120fps I'd probably shook my head at them.
I won't pay another 10,60 Eur for the update, sorry... Almost everybody is giving nextgen away for free (there aren't as many "nextgen" out there anyway), but Activision Blizzard thinks otherwise...
I hadn't played the game yet so i've bought it and I'm enjoying it, but i felt so scammed paying an extra £10! ridiculous! There isn't any major work gone into this update, it should be free/the same price as last gen.
@@afroducc well, I wouldn't say it wasn't a lot of work, but there are plenty of titles released several months or even longer before PS5 "launch" (as difficult it is to get your hands on one), which presumably had to do more to benefit from the new architecture, provide the patch for free and don't run such unfriendly strategies like "only free with digital deluxe". Well, in the end you may charge for it and may get some money out of it, but you also have to accept that not everybody is happy about such a decision so alien to the rest of the market/publishers.
@@SmashDde I didn't mean to say not alot of work had gone into, maybe that's me just feeling a annoyed lol, but still, it is only a resolution/frame rate update (essentially just the PC version). @@afroducc You're right. As much as I'm a fan of the remake (hopefully they are working on at least THPS3 as well), I'm none of paying extra for an next gen update. 10+ Euro. @@afroducc I know what you mean. There have been more extensive upgrades on other games that have been free over the last several months. Refuse to pay for Activision's greedy tactics.
For me to pay for an upgrade here the differences would have to be drastic. Like they overhauled the game from the bottom up for next gen consoles and added extra content. Just don't think it's worth it considering I've had the game for a while now there isn't enough incentive for me to cough up extra money and hand it to Activision.

I recently got a LG CX 55'(Costco just dropped the price on these another $100) and it's hard to explain how amazing 120fps feels on this game. Some games just need it, and this is one that feels so much smoother and snappier which is pretty important.

(Although it's kinda' boringly locked to 60, the extra temporal res + Insomniac's TI 1440p->4K treatment looks GREAT).
It's sad digital foundry had to make a disclaimer and call out people making stuff up about them.
