Crysis 3 really was a next gen game before the generation even started, was crazy impressive.
It was multiple gens ahead of it's time. It STILL looks better on PC.
@@SpurnOfHumanity we get it it looks better on PC
@@SpurnOfHumanity it should look better on PC considering there are no true ps5/Xbox series versions. It's just the last gen versions with a 60fps patch
I'm playing the xbox one version and it still looks pretty good. A few framerate issues but the game is still functional which is crazy.

I love seeing Digital Foundry covering Crysis 3 again. I'm nostalgic of when Richard used to test the original Crysis 3 all the time.
Like legit I've never played any crisis games ever until two days ago and it's all because of digital Foundry an their coverage on the game. I bought the switch version of the trilogy and I've been loving every minute of it it leaves me speechless because I can't really believe that a game of this quality even runs remotely well on the switch it blows my mind. Especially because it runs it very good and I definitely wouldn't have bought them if it wasn't for digital Foundry going through and explaining why crisis has such a technical Marvel
Crysis is a real gem and it sucks that more people haven't had the opportunity to enjoy it. It's a joy to see reports from players like yourself, demonstrating that this more accessible release was worth it!
It sometimes makes me think that the games we consoder visually ‘stunning’ on Switch don’t even hold a candle to what this trilogy did a decade ago.
Holy heck lol 32 likes I've never had a comment get this many likes lol
This comment makes me feel old.

I am so grateful for the amount of love DF shows Crysis. Seriously. No one else covers these games like you do. I love these games ALOT. And love that this channel promotes them.
Can you imagine the Wolf-of-Wall-Street-levels of insanity at the DF headquarters if a new Crysys gets announced? Champagne bottles popping, people running in underwear, cats and dogs living together, MASS HYSTERIA!
I would literally shit my pants from excitement
... Cwoke and Hwookers
I can't wait for the DF Tech Review when Crysis 4 is out!
I played this in stereoscopic 3D on PS3. It was a bloodbath.
Same here….. from Today’s View it was terrible😵💫
Bloodbath? What does that mean?
@@mindrover777 Probably his eyes due to the fact that 3D glasses are evil.
Same but on the xbox 360, it looked absolutely awful! I've still got my Panasonic 50" Plasma 3d TV.
@@WH250398 😂, the cinematic 3d experience on PS3. Can't imagine.
Just wanted to say I love the work you guys do! Thanks DF
Real talk, Ryse with a properly configured Reshade preset with some good DoF still looks absolutely PHENOMENAL on PC. Like to the point of still putting many other modern games to shame. Really wish there were an open world game with the brutality and variety of finishers as Ryse.
That was a cool tech demo! I beat the game!
Crysis 3 is a masterpiece, the graphics were stunning, loved how immersive New York felt, with overgrown vegetation, the soundtrack was amazing , super fun gameplay, so many memories with the game
I got Crysis 3 on Switch as well and I'm blown away by how good it looks in portable mode. I do have an OLED but this game would look good on any switch. Crazy how such a demanding game is running so smoothly on Switch while also looking amazing. It pretty much looks like the PS5 version with much lower res and 30 fps, which are big differences but when the core game already looks andp lays so good, it's a marvel on the handheld.
Yeah I did try out Crysis 3 this year on PC after hearing DF talk about it for 8 years. Pretty fun! Looks great, as mentioned.
I agree with John, even a somewhat poor port of Crysis 3 to the PS4/XBO in 2013 would have been jaw dropping.
I do agree with Rich, however. We might (who knows) have had that uneven frame pacing achieved with cryengine and, perhaps, even lower res. But hey, MAXIMUM COVERAGE by DF as always!
Thank god a game with a good drs implementation.
Watching this makes me wonder how CD Project Red ever thought they could get Cyberpunk to run well on last gen consoles
Back almost 10 years ago, DF made a video using PC with specs that would be similar to PS4 and Xbox One and made It run Crysis. If I remember well, It was a good guess jugding by the Port we have today.
Yeah, they were getting solid mid 40s in both console's frame rates back then in the test. I think Crytek lost an opportunity with this game. One they couldn't miss.
I played all 3 of them on ps3 and loved it. Can't imagine playing them at such higher quality on PC in 2013
I loved crysis 3 when it launched and thought it got a bad rap. It was a look at next-gen visuals on PC with a really fun campy 80s action movie story and vibe to it. BRB gonna go play it again...
it just had bad rep. because ppl dont want good gameplay, they want shit boring gameplay and a "good" story.
I finished crysis 3 back in 2013 and thought it was an excellent game. I couldn't understand why people didn't like it that much. Now I am not surprised at all. Because in general people don't have a good taste in gaming. The fact that Fortnite, COD and sports games like fifa, madden are some of the top selling games every year with a huge player base is proof of my theory.

As well as Denuvo getting removed
Rise of the Tomb Raider had terrible antialiasing. It would be interesting to see how much it can improve with DLSS.
Well once the patch comes back, for Rise, since they reverted back to the previous due to bugs appearing.

Looking back it's hard to believe I played through Crysis 2 and 3 at those low framerates on 360.
Loved that you covered the last gen too thank you 👍
A patch for Ryse would be the reason to buy it, although I've played it via game pass. It's not masterpiece by any means but it's so beautiful and fun.
I've always been interested in it
@@greengamerguy623 it's a decent game. Gets a little repetitive at the end but worth a playthrough for decent gameplay and amazing graphics.
Played Crysis 3 on a 7970 back in the day. One play through at 60fps 1080p second I did 1080p 30fps with a controller to enjoy the scenery. I played Crysis 1 on an 8800gt at 30fps at 1680x1050 so it was a nostalgic moment.
Sub-optimal was almost all games from the end of that console gen and we didn’t have Pro versions. I remember slumming it through this on 360. This looks so much more satisfying. All three of them.
I remember the game running so poorly on 360 that, playing multiplayer, you had to fight the framerate as much as the other players.
Far cry 3 ( 22- 30 fps)
Borderlands 2 (25 to 30 fps)
Bioshock infinite ( 25 to 30 fps)
Metro last light (22-30)
Few examples of how that generation was struggling by the end.

That train sequence is so funny - the fact you guys can use it as a comparison just by not interacting and survive anyway.
The multiplayer on this game back on 360 was insanely fun. I hope the remaster has multiplayer.
Does this mean DF will be switching to Crysis 3: Remastered for their benchmarks? 🤔
Literally my first thought when it was revealed
@@bim8498 haha why not c3 remaster is faster now in cpu bound scenario compare to og c3 but it is more heavy when you are gpu bound which you will be even low medium setting something like RTX 2060 even at 720p lmao
Bring back the train sequence!
When Rich dine in a restaurant he always make sure to analyze the food if it has better texture and higher framerate when he chew the food.
Thanks for covering the old generation DF
You can tell John is truly excited about a game when his voice cracks.
It feels good to see a proper remaster that doesn’t take too many liberties with character designs and runs this well. It’s a shame about the checkpoint stutter on PS, but that nitpick pales in comparison to all the great work done here!
This is a port, not a remaster. It's all the same as the original game except for very small changes.
I love Crysis, been there for every game day one and was waiting for the complete trilogy to be remastered to re visit ❤️
I played this back in 2013 on a i7 2600K in combination with a GTX 680 on a mixture of medium to high settings and yes it was giving my pc a difficult time! Fps wise it wasn't a locked 60 but overall it wasnt too bad.
The game itself was something I looked forward to simply because I was hooked on Crysis from the first game, thoroughly enjoyed playing all 3 games.
Really wish they bring MP back in a future update or something. I loved playing the MP so much in this game, Hunter was amazing
I doubt it will happen given that a lot of other remasters that have been released over the years often cut out the multiplayer. Assassin's Creed ezio collection, uncharted Nathan Drake collection, Kingdom hearts birth by sleep final mix are just a handful of examples of games that got remastered and had their multiplayer components removed.
It's a crime that *Warhead* got lost in the remaster mix! Those who know it, know how much its absence is missed.
It's basically a better optimized, arguably tighter level design and pacing, progression of the original Crysis M.O., supported by excellent encounter set-ups that fully exploit all the suit powers in meaningful ways - and great physics set ups too.
Plus, *Warhead* explores the action taking place across the other side of the island and nearby locations, kinda' "completing" the Crysis 1 premise and narrative, and taking it a little further in the process.
This makes it pretty damn essential to experience right after Crysis 1.
Or any time for that matter.
It's a very entertaining campaign, and Psycho is an amusing off-kilter protagonist with a completely new take on reactions for similar 'big reveal' moments - compared to Nomad.
"Crytek lost the original code for Warhead so they can't remaster it" seems like an unbelievably irresponsible gaffe if it's true.
I agree. It was my favourite Crysis game after 3. But I do think they lost the source code. That, or they simply thought that remastering Warhead would take as much time and resources as Crysis 1, yet won't lead to any prophet (see what I did there?) since it's not as famous as the other games in the franchise.
@@rtxmeatlug3149 At least it's still playable on PC... with a little effort.
@@griffgames9538 True.
Legends! Thank you for your insight BROTHER
Cool vid, as per. But I wonder if you could have done one video for all three games?
Sometimes I struggle to see the point of remasters like this as a PC player - but then I look at that side by side X vs 360 footage and just wish I could be a console player finally getting to play a game they remember from their younger years with that improvement.
On the console side I find this to be a scam to be frank. PC players get one copy from Day One which they can scale according to their hardware for no additional cost, but console players are expected to pay twice for the same game.
PC player only paid once. Console player will pay separately for PS3 and PS4 version.
Same with GTA V. PC players paid once and can run the game at 4k, but console players are being sold another "remaster" to unlock 4k else they are stuck with PS4 version which caps out at 1080p 30fps. So, PC player can use the same copy at any settings while console users are expected to buy the same game thrice on PS3 (720p), PS4 (1080p 30fps) and PS5 (4k 60fps?).
It's a scam, these updates should be free or at minimal costs, especially moving from PS4 to PS5 generation since they're basically PC. Rockstar will just change resolution to 4k, move frame rate cap to 60fps and charge another $40 for it.
@@youtindia when you put it like that every remaster can feel like a total scam. I mean imagine if you bought a game on your Samsung Galaxy S9 and then bought a Samsung Galaxy S10 and had to pay for that same game again even though you already have it on your Play store account. That being said as a console player I'm very much used to having to buy a game a second time for another platform and I find being able to get a new version of a game for free through smart delivery or backwards compatibility on PS5 and Xbox series s and x a bit underwhelming since historically next generation versions of some games were often completely different games entirely or they featured all the DLC and some other changes that weren't just related to frame rate or resolution.
@@GenerationZ313 Paid updates made sense when going from PS3 to PS4 because they were different architectures. But charging from PS4 to PS5 when the only real change is resolution and framerate cap and maybe a few change settings, it just feels wrong and a simple cash grab.
@@youtindia oh yeah I completely understand that when you consider just how difficult it is to port a PlayStation 3 game. In fact I always found it amazing whatever you could get a PlayStation 3 game or its contents for free on next-gen consoles but that was smart delivery and backwards compatibility it just makes the transition feel so underwhelming
@@youtindia yeah some 3rd party console publishers like EA(owner of crytek at that time), 2k etc really use console users trust on their eco-system to scam kids and casual users, problem is sony and microsoft are not doing good a job to regulate their marketplaces, apple is much better in this regard..

I really love the Crysis trilogy. I wish they still made creative linear FPS campaigns like this.

And it's still not the final Crysis video? That the next one be the last.

The multiplayer for this game was really fun too. It's kind of a shame they didn't implement it again but I understand why.
4 player splitscreen at xbox 360 graphics wouldve been just fine to keep some multiplayer
Good to see the consoles finally have a version of this game that runs well. Probably would've done much better as a PS4/Xbox One launch title back then.
Curious how a PC version will be handled, if this version is graphically identical to the original PC release. I hope it's not a minor re-release over a patch because for years now the original either runs well or or is basically unplayable on modern PCs with the low GPU utilisation and stuck framerate issues.
The video is so intensive that my mobile internet couldn't play the video above 360p :))
It's crazy no one mentions how good or bad the HDR is in the game. I thought it looked better with it off.
It's tone mapped. Which always is hit or miss.
I play with HDR off. It looks way better to me...
It’s just crazy how this game beats so many ‘next gen’ titles visually in several aspects. Nearly 10 years later and this game still stands up and even excels through its art and technology combined.
Seeing this game run on Switch and looking so good is just mind blowing.

I’ll be honest, I don’t think these games quite hold up in terms of gameplay in the way I was hoping. It actually reminds of the heavy feeling of the Killzone series that just sort of bogs it down. Visually great, but I’d still easily prefer going back to something like Resistance or even Far Cry 3 which I think nailed exactly what the original Crysis was trying to do but was better in pretty much every way except graphical fidelity.
