    I've always been physical over digital especially for the bigger releases hence why I bought the disc version at Launch, however the fact that more than half my library are on PS Plus Extra/Premium anyway and will bound to be more in time has convinced me to gradually switch over. Its only a matter of time before all new consoles will have no physical media IMO whether we like it or not.

    Been a strict physical disc collector since Ps3 until Ps4...but during the pandemic I realized how convenient digital purchases are (tends to be way cheaper than physical copies in my country)...now 80% of my purchases are digital. I'm considering going full digital for the Ps5 to save shelf space. I got enough clutter for my other hobbies so better not add more. Remember nothing in this world is permanent, physical or digital. That's something I realized during the pandemic too :)

    These are the considerations that led me to a PS5 Digital Edition purchase over the disc version:
    1. I haven't owned a Sony console since the original PlayStation, so I don't have a library of PS4 discs coming over with me to the PS5.
    2. I prefer the convenience of digital ownership. The games I want to play are right there on my console.
    3. Storage expansions for PS5 are a lot cheaper than the ones for Xbox Series consoles. I bought a 2 TB SSD with a heatsink for just $150. (That same price will get you a 1 TB card for Xbox.)
    4. The PS5 Digital Edition is sleek and symmetrical. It doesn't have that unsightly disc drive bulge on one side.

    • @chadbear8759
      @chadbear8759 Год назад +2

      You don’t actually own any of your digital games tho. You do actually own your physical games tho.

    • @InJeffable
      @InJeffable Год назад +3

      @@chadbear8759 I see what you're getting at, and I think laws need to change to make digital ownership more ironclad. For instance, I would like to see a law that forces companies to issue a full refund if a customer is ever denied access to a digital purchase for longer than, say, 30 total days each year (which would more than cover any unplanned outages).
      But really, the games that are most in danger of being lost over time are the ones that completely rely on a server for you to even play them. That's one big reason Stadia was never going to work. With my PS5, I can store my games on the internal SSD and the add-on SSD I purchased. If the servers were to go down tomorrow, I would still be able to play God of War Ragnarok like nothing had happened.
      Owning physical copies is more foolproof than what I just mentioned, but it doesn't account for patches and expansions. If the storage inside someone's disc PS5 fails at some point down the line, they'll be able to install their games from disc onto a new (or maybe just reformatted) SSD. But if all support for those games has been discontinued by that point, then any patches and expansions will be out of reach, leaving the player with the unpatched vanilla version of the game.

      @@InJeffable Your last paragraph also indicates why we need games to be finished before release (like in the days before the internet took over consoles). As too many game-developers/publishers nowadays, knowlingly put out a buggy mess of a game and "We'll fix it down the road". Bugs can always happen, but not to a degree that you end up having a game that isn't releaseworthy.

    My main reason for going with the disk version is because one day the PlayStation network may remove a game, it could no longer become available. the same thing Nintendo did with the DS and the Wii U they closed the store down but still allowed people to download their games, but they could not purchase anything from the store anymore, Told consumers that they were doing maintenance but really they are discontinuing the service for those systems so I’m going to stick to the disc version by a disc folder and keep my disc games clean. only irresponsible people let their disc get scratched up and become completely unusable and they are lazy as hell to not want to get up and change their games so I like being able to play both digital and physical because trust me Having the best of both world is everything!

    If you can afford a digital one, then i assume you can wait just a little more and get the physical one. Unless you maybe aren't planning to get many games for it, i'd always rather have options. At least with the Series S you have gamepass and other benefits but you really aren't saving money with the digital PS5 most of the time. To me, it just seems very dumb not to spend that extra 100 and at least give yourself the option, but the Slim is looking promising so far.

      Or wait for the Pro. What's another year?! Especially since 'current gen' isn't really getting off the ground just yet. Opinions may differ ofcourse, but I haven't seen nothing yet that I NEED to jump on to current gen. But then again, my priorities have changed over the decades.
      I had the same with the PS4. When I was finally able to buy one, word of a Playstation 'Neo' began to arise, together with Project Morpheus (aka PSVR). It was then still a year away, but it was a wait worthwhile. As I'm into VR, the Pro was a good choice, as I didn't come accross troubles with VR that PS4 OG/Slim users had.
      And even if you don't go for the Pro, when that arrives, the prices of the PS5 OG/Slim will go down.
