Yea I got the digital xbox series s and it was almost like my ps4 pro was better then I had to upgrade to a full ps5 console I was missing the disc drive so so much
I agree, !! The disc version is far better than digital, if you own the games physically then all you need to do is put the disc in and away you go!!but digital, you have to buy them with certain method of payment.
I have the disc version because while streaming and downloading games is the future, I still much prefer having physical media. Plus, it's nice being able to play the older disc based PS4 games.
One thing a lot of people don't consider is that with a digital version, you're essentially giving PSN a monopoly on your games purchases and so you're forced to pay whatever price PSN is currently selling the game for. Whereas with a disc version, you have endless amounts of stores you can buy physical discs from, and so you can often find whatever game you want for sale on some store or another. In my experience physical discs are often cheaper than the digital version, so you can easily make back your $100. Don't give PSN a monopoly on your games purchases, buy a disc version.
Thats True. Physical games u can always sell after getting tired of them for digital games your money is gone for good. But sometimes digital stores has good discounts and its too attempt ing not to buy them. And digital games comes with u if u play In another console or bring your console elsewhere... discs takes too much space to carry them around.
I have PS Plus and most games I want to buy are regularly discounted the same as most in store. I only bought one physical game and that was for the steelbook
Just bought the digital version today since I'm getting less and less on buying discs. There are three main reasons for it: In my country the new game is more expensive than the digital version, and when I have to move to apartment I don't have to bring all the discs since saving up more space is a must in a tiny room. The last one is, I'm getting less and less on buying games physically - it's so easy to browse on the PS store and buy the games using my credit card.
@@chrryvrn6733 but when u get disc one its problem cause u need to clean the place where u put disc but in digital u just clean easily.and digital one looks better +u dont have to get up and change discs u just have to join a game
I’ve managed to order the disc version. The biggest pro for me is, that in some shops you have great deals on somewhat ‘older’ games though that tends to be a lot less nowadays.
@@xprods7713 unfortunately no. I haven’t received it yet and I’m heavily doubting whether I will receive it at this point. If you have any tips please share. I reside in the Netherlands so I assume that I can’t use the same sources you’re able to tap into.
Thank you for the comment, I genuinely appreciate it! It's been a great first year, but I plan to massively increase the volume of content on the channel next year whilst keeping the quality as good, ideally better... hopefully that will be enough to really push it forward.
I bought the disc version mainly because a lot of my games library is on disc, plus other disc based media, movies and TV shows. I like having the option of being able to buy games both physically and digitally, though I do agree that streaming is the future, just not for everything.
I got the disc version because there is something satisfying about owning and displaying the physical copies of games.. They become decorations like how people collect vinyls
Disc is the only option for me. Especially with increased backward compatibility coming for all PS systems, where you'll probably need your disc to confirm ownership or else buy it again.
Team disc all the way for me. Digital makes everything more convenient for users but for me, nothing beats having a physical copy of the disc. Just having it makes the experience complete for me. But I definitely understand why others prefer the digital edition more.
I got the disc version because of getting most games physically, but some I get digitally if they are out of stock. Mainly because there are more options.
I just have a huge problem with paying 70-80 for a digital copy with no possibility of trading in the game once you are finished I mean it’s cheaper for Sony as distribution and packaging costs are gone so why still full high price? I would definitely have to expand the ssd storage too without a disk drive
I bought the one that was available, a bundle of the disc version with Horizon forbidden west. To be honest I’m glad with the disc version. I like to play campaign modes and when I’m done with the game i would like to be able to sell or trade the game.
After what seemed to be an endless effort of obtaining a PS5 by signing up through PlayStation, I finally was able to purchase one today. I purchased the disc version as I have an enormous inventory of PS4 physical games, which I prefer. I enjoy just looking at the collection and the artwork on the sleeves, and keeping them alphabetized. I feel if I can’t hold it, I don’t really own it. That’s just me. The same reason I have somewhat of a gaming console museum in my home with consoles going all the way back to the 70’s right up to the present day. I also have a coin-op arcade in my home in a dedicated arcade room, complete with a pool table. I’m still unclear what the problem Sony is having in keeping up with demand in regards to the PS5. I had almost given up, but that drive to complete my collection is what kept me trying, and now I’m excited to have one headed my way.
totally agree, I have some good games on ps4 like rdr2 and cod BO3, Hitman, etc etc......And I feel like if I bought the digital version I would lose that money and it would equal out to just buying the disk version anyway, I'm also exited to buy avatar way of the water on disk to watch on a ps5, would look just as amazing as when I saw it in theatres in 3d
You end up saving more money by getting the physical model. I purchased Ratchet and Clank Rift Apart on disc for around £30 cheaper than the digital copy on PSN. Yes digital is convenient but you have to wait for sales if you want a game for cheap.
I have the digital because I was mostly digital on my ps4. It was the natural progression for me to fully switch to digital. Also, the symmetrical look of the digital edition is better in my opinion
l went and purchased the Digital Version for my next year Christmas gift, so lf l buy Tekken 8 when that comes out, how am l supposed to use it when lt doesn't have a disc drive?
@@lacountess l could do that, but for a safer bet, l'll just grab the disc drive PS5, l own some PS4 games of course, so l may wanna play them as well, cheers tho
For those that have a PS4 collection and like having physical copies of games it's definitely a no brainer. As for others what I will say is that in case you wanna sell the games you bought physically there will always be a market for that as well, when the digital ones don't really hold any reselling value, finally I feel that if somebody decides to resell their PS5 the value of the disc one and want will be far greater.
Exactly. Even if what you sell isn’t at a crazy value. You always get something back. You can’t say the same with digital copies. It’s always the case tho , there’s always gunna be a collector in the future that will pay big money for a rare game/console. It may take a lot of patience but those things do happen
I think the new PS plus structure of essential, Extra, and premium have made the digital a good option as well. I paid 100 for the extra and currently playing ghost of tsushiba, injustice, assassins creed, and uncharted at the same time.
Yeah, I'm currently musing the choice over. I have Premium on my PS4 and whilst it hasn't fully gotten rid of my reservations surrounding having a digital-only PS5, it's definitely placated them
I have the PS5 digital version cause my main console is the Series X. But even on XBox I never use any discs. Over 90% of my games are from game pass or gold. It's more like a Blueray player. It's nice to have but not essential to me.
Disc versions will always be my preference for one main reason. I don’t have WiFi where I live. So trying to download anything over 15 gigs over my hotspot would take literal days. I like having the option of just buying the disc with the 1.0 version of the game. If the future of gaming truly is entirely digital then people who live in my same situation aren’t going to fare well.
I had no option but to buy the disk version, that's what was available in the market for a reasonable price, the price difference between the disk and the digital version was almost $30 which didn't make sense to go for the minimalist version and pay twice as much as it should actually costs.
If you're happy with your purchase, that's all that matters, and it means you now have access to disk-based games if you want, so lots of opportunities to get a good deal.
I believe disc such as blu ray, UHD, etc will soon become obsolete and digital will be the way going forward for awhile until something else with tech world comes up.
@thedeer nah. There will be a ps6 or ps7. Like all the times before. He can always sqitch back if he want. Plus probably in the future they will go digital anyway. Without diak anymore with the playstation. inurtoilet4214
I went to a game store once and I was able to pick up a bundle of 5 brand new PS4 games for the equivalent of $26. Also, I bought Ni No Kuni 2 on clearance new for $4. I understand if some don't want to buy physical versions of their games but deals like the ones I got would be impossible for owners of the PS5 Digital since your only source is PSN. That's why I recommend forking the extra $100 getting the disc version.
The games are very expensive on the playstation store and I've personally grabbed a lot of games for a lot less physically than what they cost online. Demons souls & ratchet and clank was $50 the previous black Friday on the psn store but managed to get both for $60 at brand new. Disc version the way to go price-wise
You can buy cheap digital keys as cheap as outdated disc physical versions ,eneba is trustworthy in my country right now..I am not promoting maybe its not super safe but i am telling you that there are other options as well and not just getting ripped of 60 dolalrs for an 8 old game in xbox or playstation e-store
I've always preferred disc versions, when I buy a game I actually like to know I physically own something I can touch feel look at, I also like the box art and any of the other art that may come with the box version.
Feels like a small mind type of thing. You get to touch the disk? Thats the sell? Do you stare at the disk *heavy breathing* then start drooling or something?
@@christopherthomas8421 No I just like having the physical copy, the box the art on it looking and seeing I have a game collection with digital you just own a bunch of 0's and 1's. I could sale them if I want trade for them. They have more value.
Was originally going for the disc version, but I went to the digital because most of my games on my PS4 are digital download. Therefore, the digital would make sense for me.
The only reason why I bought the disc one is because games are usually cheaper in my country than they are on the official PS store and it saves me quite a bit of money. For example, I've seen that Horizon Forbidden West is for about 60$ on the PS store yet I bought the game for only 40$ in my local store. So in terms of money, I'd go for the disc one.
Same here, plus digital games are like long term leasing games and aren’t actually owned. Physical games you own and keep forever unless lost or damaged, digital games are yours until the licensing agreement is revoked or the service is down.
Disc cause say for instant you have your ps4 games and you wanna to play it on your new ps5,you can insert the ps4 game disc into the ps5 disc and it will show up on the menu
I wanted the Digital Edition originally, but I had the chance to buy the $500 version instead. I say it is worth it, especially when it is still hard to find a PS5 as of now in March of 2022.
You'd be crazy not to pick up the version you don't want, if that's the only option available. Nothing wrong with the disc version after all, I just have a preference for the digital one.
Great video and thanks for your thoughts. I bought the digital as a bundle as it was the only one I could get my hands on. Im pretty much starting from scratch as my last console was the ps3 so no physical games of the PS4.
The nice thing about that is you've got an entire generation of games to go back and play! If you sign up for PlayStation Plus, you get 20 of the best PS4 games available to download as well, stuff like the Last Of Us Remastered, God of War, Resi 7 etc. Loads to catch up on!
Hey, I'm also gonna get a PS5 in a couple of months and my last console was also a PS3, I really want to play some Ratchet from PS4 and especially Person 5 Royal which I haven't been able to play hahaha, that PS4 compatibility on the PS5 is awesome!
I have Disc version due to shops discounting games more than Ps store , also limited run games release some great collectors title. I prefer physical media to virtual
I finally, on the day of the 2 year anniversary of the ps5 debut, was finally able to place an order for one. I went with the digital version, partially because it’s cheaper, but I realized I only have one game I play on my ps4 that requires a disc. So I initially thought I’d prefer the disk version, but I realized that I’d likely never use it, so I might as well save the $100 and use it to get a couple games when it arrives
@@ItsKeysama I love it! I’ve had a ps4 since about 2015, and really only had a couple games I bought a physical copy of, and the rest were all digital, so the digital only ps5 was a no brainer for me, especially for $100 cheaper! Hope you enjoy yours!
From my personal experience while owning PS4, I never bought / sold any disc based games, and always bought digital on sale or from PS Plus / EA Play, the only game that I had as disc was the one that came with the console bundled itself (Last of Us II), that's why I decided to go with the digital version this time. But having disc version still probably good idea if you're also like me (never use disc based game) but occasionally have the need to watch certain dvd media from certain gathering events, talk, etc (yes sometimes this is their only option) and you don't have a dvd player
I have the disc version just to have the options, but I prefer downloading games. I have pretty fast internet and it actually works faster than blu-ray without all the noise associated with it. Despite all that, I feel a little guilty because I know that it’s killing the used market and we’re going to be stuck with higher prices because of that.
I have the disc version not by choice, because someone bought me it, it's a really great console, a huge upgrade from Xbox One. I've had it since February and it's running perfectly fine. I love it, I wish i had a good enough monitor for the 120Hz refresh rate.
Great video! I got a invite from PS Direct and I bought the digital version of the game thinking I prefer having everything digitally anyways and plus save $100. But I do regret that decision after researching online and seeing all the benefits of disc version vs the digital.
true but i personaly i will try to get the digital as well. I dont play so many games anyway (not so much free time) and and it just looks so much better
@@GRTakerTh well actually I got lucky with the disc recently so it’s not a issue for me anymore haha. But I get what you’re saying, I too am the same way, but sometimes physical games just have an amazing sale that the digital version would not get for ages
I recently bought a disc version bearing in mind I am 99.9% sure I will never use the drive I just think it looks a little more pleasing to the eye and less looking like a de-humidifier.
@@ZtownMicMoney yes it's still digital as well as containing a disc drive. I assumed you watched the video the man done a great job of explaining it I thought .
I would suggest getting the disc version so you have all options available but I would also suggest to buy more digital games because it's very likely that the next console won't have a disc drive anymore. Most games are bought digitally and with the digital console it's clear that many players can't play physical games anymore so the push to digital is inevitable and if you care about backward compatibility you might miss out with discs on the successor.
I own the digital version, I will say it's a good console and I enjoy it, the only con is that there will be times where you wish you got the disc version but it goes away after awhile
So far I’ve only purchased 2 disc games and have saved 85 dollars. This disc version will eventually pay for itself. I prefer digital games but some of the sales on hard copies are quite insane. Especially on the used market.
Thanks for the great content mate. Bought myself a digital edition couple weeks ago since the only game ive been actively playing is fifa. Getting the digital version is the best deal imo as i rarely purchase disc knowing the fact that i easily get bloody bored with other games. All and all lets just appreciate our beautiful ps5 regardless of the version👍🏻 ya’ve got another subscriber here
@@mambachiyengo379 Yes you can absolutely play FIFA offline. You can play career mode, 2 player vs or co-op, but obviously if you're planning to play Ultimate Team youre gonna need that internet connection. Go get your ps5, worry about whether you can get internet later!
I have the digital version of PS5 I don't really care for disc I normally buy and download my every games. I have a DVD player if I wanna watch movies unless I watch them thru Netflix or Hulu or any other site.
The disc reader can definitely become problematic over years of normal wear and tear. At least thats what happened to my PS4. Digital version PS5 it is for me.
I got the digital edition, as i don't really enjoy having a bunch of disc cases laying around. I also found the more sleek look of the digital edition. Of course this is my opinion, so the disc version is probably just as good as the digital edition.
I bought the digital edition. I only buy digital games now anyway. Lots of other reasons too but you all probably watched vids with pros and cons of each one. No need for me to state them.
A video is not needed for this question. It's quite simple buying the disc version will save the average gammer alot of money since you will easily get your extra 100 back and then some by being able to trade in your games and being able to buy used games only foolish people bought the digital version end of discussion.
@@BkBk-gy6vr I literally don't even trade games at all, I don't care about used games considering I really don't want to go the trouble of getting a game going outside just to save 10 dollars.
i want the digital because the disc drive was obviously a last minute pitch to cater to old school players. The design looks soo much more complete on the digital
Well I got my disc PS5 last October and I can honestly say I've already saved hundreds in games. Unless the game is on a huge sale in PS store 9 times outta 10 I get the disc because I found that not just PS5 but even PS4 games that came out years ago go for 60 plus dollars an and example is Mass Effect Legendary edition. I wanted to get it because I never played part 3 and in the store its 60 and I wasn't gonna pay that much for it I went to Walmart that same week and it was there for 19.99 so yeah you find out stores sometimes have the same game marked down. Thats 40 plus dallars I saved on just 1 game so imagine multiple games I've already did the same tactic for.
I'm curious. Have you thought about increasing the memory of your console? I bought the disc version and have games that I transferred over from my ps4 in my digital library, plus I bought it with Ragnorok. And I use ps4 and 5 disc games. I wonder how long before you start running out of memory. I installed a Seagate 2T SSD to make sure that I don't have any problems. They offer a 4T card, too. Be sure to get one with a heat sink if you go that route.
@TKP I always get games on sale in the store because I have PS Plus. They are never not having sales ranging from 40-80% off. I just wait until it's comparable to in store prices. The only thing I'm missing out on is resale value and blue rays, which I don't use any way.
I got the disk version and got miles Morales at 1900 INR which is HALF the price of the game on psn 3999. The game was a bit too short for my taste but really well done.
The savings you can net from physical easily makes up for the price difference. Digital is stupid considering prices tend to stay the same years later. Launch titles are still 70 on PSN, but can be had for half if you know where to look.
At first I was going for digital, but only the disc version was available when I bought it. And now I realize that disc edition is best because you get digital and disc copies of games. Although all my games are digital, I wouldn’t switch to the digital version of the console.
Awesome Review!! Now I was once a disc (about 20 games) guy but now i have children who like to go after disc....So now im a Digital Guy now, lol. Honestly I'm a day one buyer so when i want a game whether it be disc or digital going to be the same price. That wont matter though if i cant even get my hands on the ACTUAL CONSOLE,lol. Got you a sub!!!
Thanks for your comment, I appreciate you subbing! You make a good point about games being around the same price on day one. And even the PSN store has some good deals, especially if newer games aren't selling so well. I picked up Riders Republic for £40 and Deathloop for £30 recently, both of which would have cost me £70 a month or so back when they first launched.
@@ProperHonestTech once I thought one of my neighbors apartment on fire since the fire alarm was going off so I grabbed my school bookbag and dumped everything out and put my ps4 and all its games and grabbed my dog. My family didn’t really care; they just kept doing what they were doing but I seen a lot of ppl outside so I dipped. My neighbors and family laughed at me since the first thing I did wasn’t to warn my family but to grab my shit and dog lol
I recently bought a digital PlayStation 5, on a recommendation from a friend. I was looking at both versions at the beginning. The ease of digital media I own somewhat swayed me toward the digital route.
I went with the digital because I didn’t own a PS4 so I didn’t have a collection of games, but more importantly I just didn’t like the look of the Disc. I sold my disc model to my brother. Plus a lot of PS4 games go on sale, and some give you the ps5 upgrade. Either way I’m happy and if you can get a digital or disc you will be happy too.
@@redwingdog22 what does “wins in the end” even mean? Wins what? It’s not about winning, it’s about consumers choosing their preferred model. Yes, there are likely more people wanting the Disc version, but scroll through the comments here - a LOT of people would choose the Digital.
@@redwingdog22 As I explained in the video… value. People value different things. You value a disc drive. I value NOT having a disc drive. It really is that simple, I’m not sure why you’re struggling to understand that not everyone thinks the same way you do?
You'll save more money in the long run by going physical. The discs eventually depreciate in value over the years because they are tangible and you can get some killer deals. Digital media, on the other hand, isn't tangible and doesn't depreciate and you'll just have to rely on the good heart of Sony to give you discounts. That said, I DO think we are headed for an all digital realm for pretty much everything. It's a slow but sure shift. And maybe with the money that companies can save on producing the physical media, maybe they can pass on those savings to us and give us discounts on the digital media. Buuuuuut greed is unfortunately a thing.
Discs also open up the second hand resell market, which I know games developers hate (understandably, a game is technically 'sold' but they make no money from it). Digital removes the opportunity of that happening. We're definitely going all digital though. The PS6, or whatever that ends up being called, I think will either be all digital, or the last console with an optical drive.
If you don’t like your disc you can take it to the store and sell it or sell it to someone…also over the years the discount on disc games at any store will be cheaper than digital copies.
I got the disc version because a lot of the games that I play are disc copies and If I had the digital I can’t play most of those games unless I spend more money but I do agree that digital is the future and much easier to access the game rather than digging through your collection but ps6 might have that as a requirement when it comes out but I’m happy with the version I got rn
Honestly apart from being 100$ cheaper and its cleaner look, the digital version does not have much to offer. On the other hand the physical version allows you to: - truly own your games - Aka you can give it to a friend or resell it. - Buy games cheaper, especially in a few years. - keep your games on the long run, even if the PSN closes or games get erased in the future. - play physical Ps4 games that gets mostly upscale and enhanced (great for those who didn't owned a PS4 and want to get the games for cheap). - Read 4K Blu rays and so on. - And you can of course buy your games digitally if you wish. The fact that I can play enhanced PS4 games, that I can collect for cheap (15$ for Bloodborne, 13$ for horizon zero dawn, 25 for a Dragon's Crown Steelbook CIB) is a huge deal for me.
This ain’t 2004. Digital is the future.. if you buy digital games you still 100% own them, ps store will always be online. It’s way more comfortable to get a game online than going to the store & buying it. A lot of those ps4 games you mentioned are also dirty cheap online. The only pro is sharing or selling the games
@@joaomota9871 totally NOT 2000s 🤣 tons of games mentioned been on SALE and often even free ! I have ALL listed games, tried Borne, and just abandons it since, ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ PLAT Zero-Dawn more than should (☞゚ヮ゚)☞ - got my DIGITAL PS5 exactly a month ago zero regrets !! 😏
Physical all the way because you’re also getting a 4K Blu ray player for movies. Even if you mainly game digitally you have a great 4K player there too
My thoughts on both versions: Disk Version: +Being my DVD player. +Easier to play PS4 games. +Second option to go digital (if certain games are on sale) -$500 is expensive. -SSD is pretty pricey. It's gonna take a while for me to adjust (I grew up with Nintendo handhelds. 4K is pretty high.) Digital version: +Sleek design. +$400 isn't exactly cheaper, but it's a bit friendly. -Going digital is my only option. -Eventually, I'll have to upgrade my storage once I reach a high amount of games installed, which is pricey. Here's one for both of them: THEY'RE BIG. My room is small and my Switch is now my handheld console, while the PS5 became the new TV console.
Damn I’ve have a switch as my table/handheld and a ps4 as my home console. But I want a ps5 as my home console now. I never thought I see someone so similar on this app😂
As much as I’d want the disc version (would save me more money on physical games overtime possibly), my PS4’s disc drive gave out a few years back and I would absolutely dread the same thing happening again to a PS5, so I’ll probably go digital when I’m able to get one.
@@TheRealTact I’ve had my PS4 for like 5/6 years before it started randomly ejecting my discs, it still works but that’s the issue. I’m not gonna buy a PS5, invest my time into a game on disc, and then have the possibility of losing out on being able to play it because the disc drive breaks. I’m just getting rid of a future possible issue by buying the digital version.
I got Digital at launch as I mainly play PC, so I haven't bought physical media in almost a decade. Also it looks better in my setup. One thing I took into account was digital games utalise the SSD better, by the time you switch discs you would already be playing if it was digital. This is more noticeable on the new xbox with multiple games open at once.
@matt5539 except discs can break and then you're truly f'ed lol happened to me twice, had to buy it again. No such thing with digital games, no disc swapping - ever since I got ps plus premium I really don't feel the need to buy physical games. But that's just me
@@djandrealit takes 2 seconds to swap discs and how did you break the disc they aren’t that fragile, I never once broke a disc and I’ve been playing since the ps3 era
@andyortega8902 it got dirty to the point my ps4 wouldn't read it anymore. My bad of course but it wouldn't never happened if it was digital. Also..no. It doesnt take 2 seconds to swap discs haha My ps5 is in the living room and switching games from the sofa is so damn convenient lool
Personally I find there are two main factors that make the disc edition more ideal at the current time #1 Hard drive size in the PS5 is way too small most would struggle to fit more than 3-4 large marquee titles before capacity is maxed. Yes a SSD Card for the expanded storage helps the problem and since I install this I've had a much better user experience it is another cost in additional to the hardware and games etc. #2 Is more a geographic factor perhaps but where I live (New Zealand) the cost of new release games from PSN is out the gate eg: Spiderman 2 pre-order is $139.99 NZD for standard edition the majority of first party titles are in this same ball park. Whereas you can buy a retail copy for $99 for most major titles. I hate having to change the disks to switch between games but the saving on physical copies plus the 2nd hand market is worth it. Can still enjoy the sales on PSN for digital versions but if you want to play anything day one physical is the way to go unless you get free codes or can stomach the $40-$50+ incr in cost.
Haven't found one in the wild... but I've not been earnestly searching. I figure by the time I need one, the whole shortage will work itself out. I do have an XBox Series S... and am considering getting the Digital PS5, simply because I never knew if I wanted to go full digital until I played around with the Series S. Guess I'm not as much of a Luddite as I thought I was. :) After all, I still have my PS4 Pro to play physical games (and PS3 for backwards compatibility).
I hope you're correct about the shortage sorting itself out, although analysts are suggesting that things like the PS5 could be hard to find through the entirety of 2022. Hopefully retailers find better and fairer ways of making them available to more people, as stock becomes available.
I would never voluntarily cut myself off from the used game market. I like to be able to sell/trade what I don't want and save $$$ on used titles from GS, GF, fleamarkets or eBay. With the Digital Edition your money is just gone
I can absolutely understand that mindset. I'm the opposite though - I've found myself regretting selling games in the past (usually to get rid of the discs to clear up space) and then feel like playing something a year later, only to remember that I sold it. I like building a collection... even if it is a digital collection that I never truly own.
I used to be vary wary of physical media back when my only console was an Xbox one cause I found the need to insert a disc to play a game extremely inconvenient since I was the kind of guy to switch games...but when I got the Ps4 I kinda got used to it and in turn liked it cause of the little things I could do with hard discs vs streaming like if I want to play an old version of a game with an exploit, I could just install the disc and stop the update but the digital already installs the patch included. My family and friends has a lot of ps4 owners with HUGE disc collections so we kinda borrow games from each other like books. So we all can try different games without spending a lot. Speaking of disc deals, in my country, the game shops sell discs WAY CHEAPER than the psn online stores like the highest cost vs online is half of the cost. And bottomline, it is kind of a rule of thumb for me that more is better and versatility is a good trait.
I got the digital version because I knew for an absolute fact I will never ever, ever, ever buy another disc game again. When digital download became a thing in the PS3, that became a bulk of my game purchases. When I got the PS4, digital was the entirety of my purchases, so getting a disc PS5 made no sense for me.
I would have been better off with the digital version, but I got the disc version because: 1. it was the only one available and 2. I want to sell my PS4 before its value goes down too much.
Having the disk version is basically having the best of both worlds💪🏼

One thing a lot of people don't consider is that with a digital version, you're essentially giving PSN a monopoly on your games purchases and so you're forced to pay whatever price PSN is currently selling the game for. Whereas with a disc version, you have endless amounts of stores you can buy physical discs from, and so you can often find whatever game you want for sale on some store or another. In my experience physical discs are often cheaper than the digital version, so you can easily make back your $100. Don't give PSN a monopoly on your games purchases, buy a disc version.
true, didnt think about that
not a bad idea but since ive had a ps4, I've never once gotten a disc over digital or found a cheaper option.
In my country disc version of the game always costs me more than the digital, it's cheaper for me to buy digital.
Thank you. I haven’t played video games in like 10 years. I felt like I wanted the cd version and you definitely cleared that up for me
Just bought the digital version today since I'm getting less and less on buying discs.

You end up saving more money by getting the physical model. I purchased Ratchet and Clank Rift Apart on disc for around £30 cheaper than the digital copy on PSN. Yes digital is convenient but you have to wait for sales if you want a game for cheap.
Playstation usually has amazing sales. I just ordered my PS5, so I don't know how it is on there.

As for others what I will say is that in case you wanna sell the games you bought physically there will always be a market for that as well, when the digital ones don't really hold any reselling value, finally I feel that if somebody decides to resell their PS5 the value of the disc one and want will be far greater.

@TKP I always get games on sale in the store because I have PS Plus. They are never not having sales ranging from 40-80% off. I just wait until it's comparable to in store prices. The only thing I'm missing out on is resale value and blue rays, which I don't use any way.

if your house is burning down, a killer tornado is on the way, etc. You'll be glad you had the digital version.
I love that, in the face of a disaster that would destroy your home, it’s the PS5 that you’re rescuing 😂🙌🏻

My wife bought me a PS1 for our first Christmas together back in 1995 (ish). I think I'm going to have to buy her one of these for me.
With the disk version, can you still download games onto the console from playstation store?
Yes you can download digital games to the disk console no problem
I recently bought a digital PlayStation 5, on a recommendation from a friend. I was looking at both versions at the beginning. The ease of digital media I own somewhat swayed me toward the digital route.
I went with the digital because I didn’t own a PS4 so I didn’t have a collection of games, but more importantly I just didn’t like the look of the Disc. I sold my disc model to my brother. Plus a lot of PS4 games go on sale, and some give you the ps5 upgrade. Either way I’m happy and if you can get a digital or disc you will be happy too.
I agree with you about not liking the look of the disc edition.
@@ProperHonestTech Disk version wins in the end.
@@redwingdog22 what does “wins in the end” even mean? Wins what? It’s not about winning, it’s about consumers choosing their preferred model. Yes, there are likely more people wanting the Disc version, but scroll through the comments here - a LOT of people would choose the Digital.
@@ProperHonestTech Why have an inferior more expensive digital console?
You can also borrow the disc from friends, specially campaign base games
“Maybe they can pass those savings to us”
🤣 😭😭😭😭😭 do you not realize the climate of the gaming industry that we have today?
@@ProperHonestTech nothing is wrong with that....
Disc version 😊 I’ve already had mine for over a year and I’m very happy.
1 big thing to consider when converting from 4 to 5 is that you can still play all the ps4 games you already own if you get the disc version
On the other hand the physical version allows you to:
- truly own your games
- Aka you can give it to a friend or resell it.

Physical all the way because you’re also getting a 4K Blu ray player for movies. Even if you mainly game digitally you have a great 4K player there too
Agreed. One of the main advantages of the PS3, too
I thought the disc drives could only read game discs. I barely know anything about these discs
Excellent review. Answered my questions satisfactorily. Thank you!
Can you upload games digitally on the disk addition of the PS5
Physical media is the best way too go because you never know if they might take off in digital.
Sometimes, You can't even use the Physical if the game has DRM.
My thoughts on both versions:
Disk Version:
+Being my DVD player.
+Easier to play PS4 games.
+Second option to go digital (if certain games are on sale)
-$500 is expensive.
-SSD is pretty pricey.
It's gonna take a while for me to adjust (I grew up with Nintendo handhelds. 4K is pretty high.)
Digital version:
+Sleek design.
PS5 Disc is cheaper in the used market like $400 or $350.
@@dericjames2018 Better be safe than sorry.
Damn I’ve have a switch as my table/handheld and a ps4 as my home console. But I want a ps5 as my home console now. I never thought I see someone so similar on this app😂
"Which version is right for you?" Buying either seems simply impossible. So, I guess the right version is the first version I can get my hands on.
I could only get my hands on the slim version. Both digital and original PS5 were out of stock
My son is 5 and wants a ps5, he definatrly doesent need his hands on cd's we have fiber to the house so digital must be good for me.
I'm FINALLY getting a PS5 in a week, only just shy of 3 years after release.
Its only been out for 2 years
Digital games can never replicate the smell of newly bought disks 😂
I didn't even use my PS4 drive ever, why would I use now in 2023.
It's all about digital now 👍🏻
I just bought a used Red Dead 2 cd for $10,
I bought a used Assassin's creed Valhalla cd for $25.
Try and get those games down loaded at that price.
As much as I’d want the disc version (would save me more money on physical games overtime possibly), my PS4’s disc drive gave out a few years back and I would absolutely dread the same thing happening again to a PS5, so I’ll probably go digital when I’m able to get one.
Nah get the disc you’ll regret if you don’t
@@TheRealTact I’d regret it even more if the disc drive ends up breaking, $100 just down the drain.
@@ChunkySpaghetti if it breaks down that means you don’t take care of it
@@TheRealTact I’ve had my PS4 for like 5/6 years before it started randomly ejecting my discs, it still works but that’s the issue. So can you download games on the disk edition without getting the game disk
I hope you not a grown ass man with that profile pic
@matt5539 except discs can break and then you're truly f'ed lol happened to me twice, had to buy it again. No such thing with digital games, no disc swapping - ever since I got ps plus premium I really don't feel the need to buy physical games. But that's just me
@matt5539 The digital better
I got two storages running 1tb each and works fine
Im going digital cuz i never brought a disc since 2016 disk dont last long if you dont take good care of it so have your game in cloud is best
discs are almost immortal tf you on about
@zordyn they brake dude if accidently scratch it's over
Having the disc version is handy if you want to play DVDs on your system as well as games
@@firstdondiego is there any games that’s not available in digital store but it is available on disc?
Bought the disk version last year and to this date I only used 4 disks total, my library is still mostly digital. Could have saved that 100$
This will be my first EVER PlayStation product and I’m thinking about getting the digital bundle with god of war for retail price, Should I?
I would have been better off with the digital version, but I got the disc version because: 1. it was the only one available and 2. I want to sell my PS4 before its value goes down too much.
Makes sense - your less preferred option has to be better than no PS5 at all right?
