PS Home was amazing! I loved that PS3 had free online. Also the PS Vita was so ahead of the game. It’s crazy that the PSVR sold 5M units and the PS Vita sold 15M units, yet they still made a PSVR2…
Honestly hoping they do some kind of reboot/redo of the PS Vita, it really was ahead of its time! Launched before the ps4 even came out... if it would've launched with the ps4 or even alongside the ps5 I think it would've done numbers easily❗️ just my opinion though

The playstation pocket station wasn't only playstation's idea, it was actually inspired by the VMU which came out along side the Dreamcast in Japan. It was both brands banking on the tomagatchi phase Japan was going through. Both are memory cards that connect directly to the system. The main difference was for unsupported games on PS1 it did basically nothing, while on Dreamcast it displayed information of the game or little gags as it's on the controller making it easier to send secret messages and stuff to the player with one.

Most people had already written off the Dreamcast as the PS2 was known to be coming, was faster, and the PS1 was already the best selling system of its generation. Plus why put your faith in Sega after the Saturn was left to rot? No matter what Sega did, there was nothing they could do to save them from the pit they dug. Still kinda wish the hall effect sticks at least carried over to everyone else though...
The meaning of the "cross" and "circle" buttons were actually the opposite of the "western" ideal. The original Japanese design was intended to be circle as confirm and cross as deny. Certain PS1 games even have the singular option of swapping just those two buttons in the control options. I remember Final Fantasy VII was definitely one of those games but I can't remember what others did the same
I remember playing games on PS1 during childhood, Japanese games usually have O as confirm and X as cancel, while western games usually have X as confirm, while having O and sometimes triangle as the cancel button
my PS4 pro was manufactured in japan and the factoory settings actually came with circle being confirm and cross as deny and the option to make circle the confirm button in the settings menu is replaced with the cross instead
My first Sony console was the PSP and I still have it, it’s a bit busted but I think it was an amazing handheld system. It was definitely a much different experience than my GameBoy Advanced SP that’s for sure.

You can still use it for remote play, I played gang beasts on my friends PS4 with it. He didn't have a spare controller so it came in clutch. Gosh I love the Vita!
The vita had the potential to be something great, its such a shame that sony decided to abandon it as quickly as they did. After installing CFW on my vita its still one of my favorite handhelds ever made and I've owned consoles from the OG gameboy to the steam deck.

Great video Arun! I've been a playstation fan my entire life and have all the consoles. It pains me to say this but the future is highly uncertain for Sony's playstation series. With Microsoft's studio acquisition spree and game pass's insane value proposition, I have not been able to get away from my Xbox Series X, it's a very easy recommendation for anyone playing more than 2 games a year

You made me remember a game called "vib ribbon". That was a music game in which you pressed the buttons acording to the wave form. It had a mode in which you could put your own music cd for it to play. It was so incredible that the hole gameplay and graphics would just fit in the 2MB of RAM memory.

0:18 That one is a half myth. The problem with the ps1 wasn't in the reading mechanism, but insted in the lid. When you close the console, the lid pushes a switch, that tells the console the lid is closed and it can star reading the game. Overtime, switches can get oxidized or dirty and then stop sending the signal that the lid was closed, and then you can flip the console upsidedown to the lid pushes harder, or simply put some weight in it, like a book. Now, the proper way to correct that was opening the console and using some isopropyl alcohol in the switch.

That was a music game in which you pressed the buttons acording to the wave form.
It had a mode in which you could put your own music cd for it to play. It was so incredible that the hole gameplay and graphics would just fit in the 2MB of RAM memory.

That one is a half myth. The problem with the ps1 wasn't in the reading mechanism, but insted in the lid. When you close the console, the lid pushes a switch, that tells the console the lid is closed and it can star reading the game. Overtime, switches can get oxidized or dirty and then stop sending the signal that the lid was closed, and then you can flip the console upsidedown to the lid pushes harder, or simply put some weight in it, like a book. Now, the proper way to correct that was opening the console and using some isopropyl alcohol in the switch.
