Hi everyone - so recently, it has been taking RUclips much longer than usual to process 4K videos and actually give you 4K viewing options. By extension, when 4K video does become available on RUclips, a much, *much* better version of 1080p is presented too. Until the encoding completes, you get a very basic 1080p60 version that can look rough. And that presents a problem for Dirt 5, which is very difficult to compress and looks very heavily compressed on RUclips - more so with the basic encode. All we can really say here is that we waited a while before publishing this because we wanted the best quality presentation and to at least give the game a fair shake - but we have no visibility here on when the higher quality version will arrive.
Thanks for the info. RUclips compression has really been hammering the footage of games, they need to catch up with the hardware especially now where 4k60 captures will be a lot of people's default.

Moore's Law Is Dead or maybe NX Gamer Listen to either of them and they will give you the facts about these consoles and their capabilities. They will also be the first to tell to dev kit quality is key as well, and right now (according to devs) Sony is ahead of MS in that dept. MS has issue with it's new dev kits designed to make games for 4 different platforms. It's ambitious but needs work.
Except they basically are within the same architecture. See PC. The 6800XT is kicking ass and already puts consoles to shame because its capable of processing more at 20TFlops. Even across architectures the PS5 and Xbox Series X lose to a 2060S when raytracing is turned on because the 2060S can do more RTFLops than the consoles can.
@Markus Müller You didn't watch their video on the Series X Raytracing. Both consoles cheat and render raytracing passes at a fraction of the raster resolution. Watch Dogs Legion on Series X rendered RT at 1080p (1/4th) when it was set to 4k mode, and when the 2060S used the same settings as the Series X, the 2060S maintained over 30FPS at 4k, while the Series X struggled and had to use dynamic resolution to dip resolution below 4k.
Not only is the XBox detail like a whole generation behind the PS5, the XBox cannot maintain even that level of detail smoothly, but it keeps flickering the grass for example making the scene look restless. I find the comforting tone, that Digital Foundry gives to XBox quite worrying, as they do seem to find excuses for downplaying XBoxes performance hickups, and also emphasize whatever negative aspects they can find about PS5 performance. All the while trying to keep a gallant ”unbiased” face.
@@connora9 I obviously mean the actual detail. The headlights are round in PS5, in the XBox version they are octagonal. I mean, octagonal like it was PS2. The grass in XBox version is also similarly poor. And it still flickers like even that was too much to handle.
Well we can't really say if the console is the problem or the software. ps5 and series x have different versions of the game and different development environments. Time will tell when we get more comparisons, anything right now is just speculation.
For this game the difference in texture details was shocking lol. It was not a fucking slight difference. It was like x360 graphics vs PS5. RIP XSX 12 TFarts...
@@daydreamer8373 Just viewing by the actual specs. XSX is a bit more powerful with it's GPU. However, that slight advantage isn't gonna do much when PS5's SSD can load assets and geometry a lot faster than Xbox's. Despite popular belief, Storage speed is a factor in performance. A very slight factor, but still relevant.
Well when both consoles are using the same exact architecture it does absolutely make sense to look at TF in combo with Clock speed. PS5 and Series X are both RDNA 2. I can't explain what's happening here but something fishy afoot. I don't know if it's the devs just optimizing and porting from the ps5 (which is likely) or if the probably is on MS's end but something is def up. The fact the the settings like the texture filtering aren't even the same between the versions leads to me to think it's the developers doing quick and dirty ports it just doesn't make sense. Two years on I still keep coming back to Dirt 5 for arcade racing thrills, it's feels old school, like Sega Rally, while looking amazing - beautiful weather effects etc. I wasn't so keen on the One X version - definitely needed the framerate mode for a smoother experience. On PC and Series X I'm happy to play in higher resolution mode. Will I still play it in 25 years, like I do Sega Rally? Probably not, but for this generation I can see me returning for years to come - unless Dirt 6 knocks it out the park!
And yet again, the “12 TF Monster that eats other monsters for breakfast” is nowhere to be seen. Looks and runs better on PS5. Nothing like real life to dismantle marketing claims.
Devs have already stated that they got their kits from Microsoft much later then ps5 and they also stated there is a lot more in the series x (that is from a dirt 5 developer on a recent podcast) but the xbox uses a lot of new technology while ps5 has old architecture along with new so it is a little easier to code for at the moment. Xbox also doesn’t have any exclusive titles to start with the next-gen. Cant believe people still okay with all the false hopes that Xbox provided for hyping their products.
I think these are mostly software issue right now with this game as neither version seems quite right. The textures on Xbox could make sense with the split memory but all settings down, that doesn't seem right.

It sucks because as a gamer I would be bummed if my favorite system couldn't perform the exclusive well.
@Cryer24597 Actually no. The title on the Xbox side has to be developed with the lowest common denominator in mind, that being the Series S. Its a scalable engine, I'm guessing MS has some sort of parity clause within their own platform ecosystem.

I wish some engineers from these devs could give an actual explanation. Like, I have some ideas like maybe these cross gen games can't depend/balance workload on the more numerous CU's of the Series X yet so gain a lot from having high clock speeds to individual CU's on PS5, but I don't know if that's actually a thing (kind of like how some older games don't take advantage well of CPU's with more threads now). PS5 also has an internal monitor that analyses and balances the CPU/GPU workload, maybe these games have a bunch of CPU overhead (since they must also run on last gen) so PS5 boosts GPU clocks, but the moment a game really pushes the CPU, it would not have such an advantage on the Series X. There's probably more possibilities I'm not thinking of or it's really a matter of what devs actually need is the better balances of performance that's in the PS5 or something. We'll see.

@Ertugrul Ghazi that's not the whole story, the logic may be similar, but every change made to the game needs to be tested across so many platforms that it really can slow development iteration. Especially in the case that one of those changes breaks/negatively impacts perf and more investigation or programming is required. Sure, if you have n consoles, development doesnt take n times as long because much of the logic is the same, but it increases it more than you think because of all the additional testing that needs to happen throughout the project
@Ertugrul Ghazi Yeah like you said, it shouldn't be much of a problem over the PC and new consoles but it can be problematic for developers if they are supporting older gen consoles. On the PC and new gen consoles, they can just scale the visuals, frame rates and resolution to what each platform can do and that's quite easy to do but with the older gen consoles, they are much harder to deal with because of the much faster cpu and storage speeds on the PC and new consoles. The quicker games stop supporting the old gen of consoles, the better but I suspect that's not going to happen for at least a year or 2.
@Ertugrul Ghazi of course it's true itll take more time to make a game natively for all platforms but that's just not the way cross platform development is done. All of these games have abstraction layers so that actual game and engine logic can be written independently of platform, save some ifdefs when required to do things differently for one platform or another. There are not different codebases per platform, even in the ps4/ps5 case, because the developers themselves will write abstractions
@Pyotoru Yup it really is. I remember people saying this is the console to get because you get the same framerates but it will run in 1440p. Now we're seeing lower framerates and lower resolutions from the console.

Did you finish the video and notice the PS5 version drops frames by like 20+% over the Xbox version? The game is pretty messy from an engine and support standpoint. @@Coops92 It all comes down to clock rates. Xbox is running at standard clock and Ps5 is running at max clock. Seriously this launch is very bad for Microsoft I expected so much more. The One X is my favorite console, I love the backward compatibility with X enhancements, most games looked better than ps4 pro, 4k HDR blu ray, Atmos etc it was incredible, the One X basically became my main console for multi plateformes games. I was very confident with the Series X but those results are crazy. Almost every games runs and looks better on Ps5 since launch wtf happened to the most powerfull console ? There is absolutely no reasons for any Xbox One X owners to buy a Series X instead of a Ps5 right now. It is a huge disappointment.
Big-time mistake, I understand why they want a cheap console but they severely gimped it. They could have kept the CPU the exact same frequency from X to the S and given it at minium 12Gb's of RAM with 10 reserved for games rather then 8Gb's but if they were going to have a gimped GPU with only 20 compute units again had the frequency been the same as the Xbox Series X I'm confident it could have done better to match Microsoft's 1440p marketing claim vs what we've seen so far with games going as low as 720p.
Microsoft is the worst company, even their best selling software doesn't work properly do you really think they can archive something worthwhile with consoles!!? Lmao
@@yab3146 Honestly having two differently priced SKUs with the same exact power makes much more sense. They lose money upfront but make it back through digital purchases. The Series S isn’t the console for true next generation gaming. Microsoft’s claimed resolution of 1440p but this console is too weak to even do that without constraints elsewhere. They should not have under clocked the CPU and GPU and more then 8Gb’s of Ram for games is needed because this is only the start of this generation. As it stands it will only get worse for Xbox Series S owners. I know Microsoft’s plan is to switch in Xbox Series X consoles into Game Pass servers and at that point I’m anticipating that Microsoft will offer game streaming via cloud on consoles. The great thing about that is you will be able to play at resolutions that they Xbox Series S can’t due to its internal specs. I wish Microsoft would have bumped the specs appropriately to reach their advertised resolutions of 1440p and doing everything its big brother does just at a lower resolution or instead say this is a 1080p console. At the very least there was no reason to down clock the CPU since it drops fps more then any other “next gen” console as well.

@Foaad Hisham 4K allows for better bitrate and it DOES look better on a 1080p screen compared to regular 1080p.

You have a game that has a 120FPS mode but your skimping on texture filtering? The detail level stuff? Even if it performed worse than the ps5 it would make no sense to turn that down vs the PS5 version.

@@marcosvaldez8510 yes there was a diffrence in games. but xbox one was significantly weaker than ps4. 768 cores on xbox one while ps4 had 1152. tfps was pretty close to each other with xbox having 1.23 and ps4 1.84. ps4's memory was also superior to xbox by a good amount and system memory bandwith of ps4 was almost thrice as much as xbox's system memory bandwith. PS4 was superior to xbox one in every component and with a good diffrence while only component series x has over ps5 is GPU and that's just on TFPS and teraflops are just one part of the GPU.
@@EfecanYSL Incorrect. Xbox Series X has also higher CPU clock speeds, on top of the 52 CUs vs 36 CUs. PS5 does have higher GPU clocks, though, faster SSD and better IO controller. The latter being here probably the culprit for better performance than X.
@Efecan YSL PS4 wasn't just better in raw power but also better ALU utilization due to vastly superior asynchronous compute, and better cpu overhead.
@@MadViking82 The PS5's CPU seems to have a more efficient memory/cache for it's CPU cores (8-core CCX, unified L3, full unified 16GB in one cycle), even though the clock is 100 mhz slower it's overall better IPC.
@@MadViking82 while you are right about the CPU speed i didn't mention that as a component better than PS5 because 0.3 GHz won't make a difference when they can't utilize their other components properly and even if they did it would give them little boost is all. If you want to take the ''higher clock speeds'' argument then i would argue PS5's GPU is faster than xbox's GPU. and you are doing the same thing with that CU count like people do with TFlops. Sony went with an efficiency path this generation and they are squeezing every bit of power that there is on their console with optimization, efficiency and custom built chip that makes every component work in sync while xbox took the raw power path. again compared to last gen these consoles have almost no power difference between them other than the GPU's tfops numbers. both consoles have the same 8 core zen 2 CPU with the difference being a 0.3 GHz advantage on Xbox's side which is just a tiny bit of an advantage and is nowhere near close to the gap between xbox one and ps4 which was always my point from the start of this comment. Xbox has a better ''raw power'' in GPU but is slower than PS5's GPU. I never said xbox didn't have better hardware on paper what i've been saying is the difference between ps5 and series x is NOWHERE near the difference between xbox one and ps4. get that in your head or believe what you want.

Do some research then. Dev's have had the ps5 dev kits for over a year and have had the series x for just a few months. PS5 is doing better with every multi-plat so far. What the hell's going on here?
We'll see.
It is simple. The machine is better made and though out.
It's early days. As devs come to know these consoles better and better then we'll see what each is truly capable of.
The xbox devkits where given late so i guess

Most new budget TVs support vrr but you are right these issues should not be here in the first place.

But here we are, PS5 is the most stable one ... Ironic
Right?
I believe you don't know some things. PS5 technologies and programing are very similar to the PS4 Pro. The PS5 Dev kits were almost the final build. Series X dev kits in the other hand, were very incomplete, due to an embargo from AMD. So you don't have VRR, Mesh Primitive happening in the first bunch of games for Series X. Pretty much, the first bunch of games were programed with less technologies than the Series X is capable of, with a lot of "guessing" from the developers part. It's like PS5 has a edge now, because Series X still didn't show all his cards, while PS5 hand is totally open right now.

Its most probably because of how the development kits of the ps5 is very very similar to the ps4. While the series x is pretty different to the one x or the one. Which could take time to fully master.
Besides, alot of modern games (pc games) utilize higher clock speeds. Which could give ps5 an unseen advantage.
supporting last gen, current-gen, and pc systems are insane... i feel bad for devs
I have a feeling the PS4 and XB1 especially the Pro and X are gonna see more support than any past gen I’ve seen because of the capabilities and similarities in architecture.
They are all PCs, no weird custom architecture like the PS3 Cell

I was very confident with the Series X but those results are crazy. Almost every games runs and looks better on Ps5 since launch wtf happened to the most powerfull console ? @@vale_recca lol bugs don't have that much of a difference
Series S is starting to look like a mistake. An all digital Series X may have been the way to go. The S is in a wierd spot.
Even it’s GamePass push is hurt by its hardware. It means it’s gonna run the low frame rate, low resolution One S ports of GamePass games.

That is why i told Xbox fanboy Xbox series S Will HOLDBACK series X. Because the series S is base console and as base console series S is too weak.
"xbox is the most powerful console" says their marketing, yet every game reviewed the ps5 comes out on top. I don't think you can call that a bug.
It is the most powerful, first RDNA2 dev kits werent ready until summer and we are just getting used to the new tools. I am developing on PC and still am waiting for driver updates for our SDKs from AMD. It takes time to curate, PS5 devkits is more RDNA vanilla, and they used the same tools that have been around for a while. Just wait until we read all the white papers and learn to use RDNA2 properly, then this bird can sing proper. all next gen consoles are beautifully crafted, including the Series S
Lol you're in denial
@@LiquidSpartan117 Can't be a very good dev if you think marketing buzzwords like more teraflops means better, just look at stadia. More powerful yet all their games are nowhere near as good as the console versions.
@@bloodredroses88 teraflops are comparable here, because they are both based on RDNA tech. I am down for a bet if you want. By summer all comparisons will favor Series X. How about a thousand dollars?
@@LiquidSpartan117 You'll just delete the comment if you lose (which you will) because at the end of the life of the ps4 and xbox not even all games favoured the xbox. It's about optimisation, not power. Doesn't matter if stadia had a billion tflops, they games would still look like shit.
Maybe xbox should have delayed the console if they weren't ready. And just look at the game of the year list, there's no microsoft games on it.
*Series S is really going to hold this gen back isn't it?*
holding back Series X : D
Not really. The SSD and CPU are up to spec, so lower res graphical output shouldn't cause any issues at all.
@@YourPalHDee the experience on the console seems subpart
@XavierM XSS isn't cross gen. It just has a much slower RDNA2 gpu. Other than that, everything is upto spec.
Series X is going to hold it back
Can we just appreciate how much of a genius Mark Cerny is
Genius con artist, sure.
@@Greedygoblingames you're talking about Philly right?
How is this even possible
Almost like twice the speed ssd actually helps render better textures in instantly wow
@@Tony-yn5rr
well he explained that developers would be able to use the new ssd architecture as vram in a way, since they can unload major texture assets, basically freeing up the gpu for more tasks. That's why mark cernys idea of getting rid of all the bottlenecks between a typical ssd and I/o were very much on point, and needed.
Too bad xbox fanboys didn't understand how revolutionary that idea was. Otherwise they would've seen this big L coming their way.

WHAT? HOW IS THAT A “SLIGHT” DIFFERENCE?
Digital Foundry is so deep into Microsoft’s ass it’s just hilarious, what the hell happened to the “power of the Series X”?
Lol
10:15 bro lmao!
They are deep troughting Microsoft
