These drops happen on a PC with a 3080, 5800x, and pcie gen4 ssd. There's definitely an issue with the engine in this game.

That was to get rating low enough that it sold 20 million units lol. It is annoying though hey :)

@@WKSnacks Definitely. I'm going to sit tight on a few games now in the hope they get updates.

I plat’d this game on PS5 last week. Great game with great graphics. I was curious, so afterward I loaded the PS4 Pro version and it felt like they look and perform very similarly. I was shocked how good the PS4 version looks on PS5. I dunno if it’s just a great looking game no matter what.
Kinda... I mean I wish Sony had more games updated with FPS increases like Xbox do with FPS Boost with a tonne of titles
My high end PC has the exact frame time loading stutters. That's unreal engine for you lol
Really now? You should know it's likely more to do with the devs than the engine. There are games that are well optimised that use unreal engine.
@@_Chad_ThunderCock There's no reason the engine couldn't include automatically adjusting tools for setting streaming parameters. If it's a common problem with one engine and not most, it's an engine problem.
Sounds like unreal doesn't know to utilize the new storage APIs. Cuz on consoles the storage has custom sillicon worth multiple cores of processing power dealing with streaming assets. But on PC everything is done by the general purpose CPU. They haven't adapted the code, like Morales can load anything anywhere without drops.
@@_Chad_ThunderCock If it is the devs then there are a lot of stupid devs out there. Most of my UE4 titles are stutter fests. Not unplayable by any means but it can be really annoying. I am fairly confident that UE5 will be just as stuttery as UE4.
Good thing EA didn’t use the Frostbite engine 😅
Loading stutters in the Unreal engine? Why I never!
I thought it runs on a modified source engine just like all of Respawns games. It’s impressively not source enginey looking, if it is.
@@itsd0nk It's Unreal Engine 4
@@prich0382 Yep. EA tried to force Respawn to use Frostbite but that studio is so good they have been allowed to use whatever engines they want, including source and UE rather to have their stuff shoehorned into Frostbite which is great for some genres but terrible for others.
@@zybch Still, Frosbite would have saved this game from most stutter, if not all of it, UE4 if not used properly will end up causing this stuff.
@@itsd0nk No, it's UE4, only UE4 has major asset streaming issues.

So true... that would be a awesome thing to at least get it to 60 on the ps5 and SX! Maybe one day!

This is one of my favorite games from the last couple of years. Nice to see it supported, hopefully more players takes the chance ro enjoy it now.
Was waiting for this video!! Thanks!!
Really excited to see what Respawn does with the sequel. Considering how different this game was from their previous work, it's very impressive how well it turned out. If they can tighten up a few spots, improve the boss fights, and add just a little more customization, I think the sequel could make a run for the best SW game of all time.
To take that title from kotor in my pov they would really have to make an impressive history! you know something that blow our minds big time!
Agreed. For instance, I mostly like the traversal, but I feel like it could definitely be made to feel more smooth/fluid, and sometimes even when locked on in combat, Cal will rarely attack in a wrong direction.
I think there's a ton of potential though as the game was really fun, I just hope we don't have to relearn all of the powers and skills we unlocked in tbe first game.
@@apictureoffunction we have to, i think 😢
@@MohdAsif-Alpha no we don't. The developers have said that Cal will start with all the force powers he had by the end of the first game
You were right. Barring the offensively poor performance it was a fantastic game and some of the best Star Wars media ever.
Man, if I wasn't such a big Star Wars nerd it would have paid to wait a year and a half and play this now, as this did not run brilliantly on a base PS4 back in November 2019 I can tell ya! Gonna have to replay this at some point along with Ghost of Tsushima, as replaying God of War recently in all its glory was a real joy. Then there's Control, Metro Exodus and Last of Us Part II still to play for the first time! In terms of graphical and performance fidelity and the sheer scope of experiences, I don't think there's been a better time to be a console gamer primarily.
Sure, everything is better on PC (when it works) but for the price and convenience, these are really great machines - here's hoping though that full next-gen games can continue to deliver high benchmarks for most of the generation, as set by the likes of Demon's Souls and Ratchet and Clank as examples.
i just played God Of war for first time, in PS5. and it has been mind blowing for me. i didn't had the fortune to have a PS4 and I have tons of games to play, been in a buy spree of used games lol.
@@ivanleon6164 same here, man. I completely skipped the PS4/XB1 generation (late PS3/XB360 gen as well), it's amazing always having something new to play, and economical as hell with how cheap last gen games tend to get.
I think control is very lame on the ps5. It's very blurry on 60fps mode.
Yeah I played this game on PC no regrets, I've been slacking on PS4 and Xbox One games since around 2016 because I hated the idea of buying the console again to play at higher resolution (PS4 Pro / One X), and it just felt like a spit in the face for the base model owners. I upgraded my PC instead and played this game, Detroit Become Human and Horizon Zero Dawn. I have picked up a PS5 and Series X though so I'm glad I waited to get to play all of the great games like Ratchet & Clank 2016, God of War, Ghost of Tsushima, The Last of Us Part 2, and about a dozen more games lol. This year has been honestly great for games, but still people have done nothing but complain it feels like. So many people convinced themselves not to bother with a next gen console. I wonder how long that will last though.
It's your choice at the end of the day if you want to play the game again on next gen system, personally I don't really like re-playing games I already completed after I'm done with them.
I actually agree as well with the ps5 and Xbox u basically getting an optimised super fastpc for 500 bucks better deal anyday !!!
Crazy that you posted this. I just started replaying this badass game on my PS5 and it is beautiful
thank you so much for the detailed inspection
Excellent video. I would have liked some commentary on the tradeoffs for which mode we should play on, like how you did with the Ratchet and Clank video. That was helpful
I played the game on PS5 when it was updated. Pretty glad I didn’t wait (though I assumed they wouldn’t do a proper version after already doing a next gen update) considering the small hitches are still there. I remember loading times being bad though, so that’s probably the best upgrade overall.
Performance mode on One X was much better than playing 30fps. Could barely notice the loss in resolution but in combat you could really feel the increased frame rate. I found parrying a lot easier at the higher fps. Never finished the game, so nice that it got another upgrade upgrade SX
love this game so much! thanks you for your work! you guys are awesome!
for ps5 resolution mode, does the game hit native 4k almost or all the time here? or what resolution does it mostly hit with Dynamic Resolution Scaling (DRS)? Thanks!
Replaying this on both my XSX and PS5, and both fantastic experiences!
Do you have a preference buddy? Which one performs better? And is it better with the DualSense controller? Thank you.
@@sugarray1345 I've been playing both on performance mode, and they look and perform virtually identical. I'm on an LG CX, so freesync does help ensure buttery smooth gameplay on the XSX version, since it's compatible. Unfortunately, PS5 does not support that feature yet. The PS5 version does support haptic feedback, though, through the DualSense...like having a more gentle vibration when landing from a jump, and feeling tiny taps in tandem with Cal's footsteps when sprinting.
@@digitalgehnThanks for the info dude. I’m grateful. I’m edging towards the PS5 after seeing the latest Ratchet and Clank game and the Horizon Forbidden West reveal. Amazing! It's been a little bit but the sequel is here, did you get survivor ?
I’ve found the 30fps 4K a bit jittery. Performance mode is King here.
Performance mode is always king.30fps just doesn't get the job done for me.4k 60 is the way to go
Yeah I felt the same way. It’s like the refresh rate is brought down to 30hz along with the framerate when not in performance mode. I also noticed input lag when not using the Performance Mode, making combat even more rage inducing.
@@69metersbelow25 games like ratchet and clank and spiderman has one of the best 30fps available.
Whereas games like control and fallen order 's combat is better at higher framerate.
Great video Mr Morgan. Insightful and balanced.
Is this an official PS5/XSX upgrade? Does it take advantage of the hepatic/adaptive triggers? Or anything else?
The audio being out of sync in cutscenes is still rampant on the ps5. Really detracts from the cinematic experience
It's the game engine because that shit happens on my series s as well
To be fair, the PC version also stutters at the transition points when the game loads new assets for the next area. I even had a hard 10 second hang on Kashyyyk when heading down to the lower level of the map on my playthrough. My guess is Respawn was just getting used to working with Unreal.
Truth I think that might just be an unreal thing. Many unreal games in the past have had huge stutter issues, games like the arkham series and even something like bioshock infinite. Definitely could also be a case of Respawn getting used to unreal, but yeah it's been an unreal issue for a while now. One thing that definitely helps on PC is having it on an SSD. That helped for me anyway.
Wasn't Apex Legends made on Unreal?
@@ea-sk8er_775 I run everything on SSDs. Granted they were SATA at the time.
@@Speeff No it was made on Valve's source engine just like Titanfall 2.
Edit** Also Titanfall 1 was also made on Valve's source engine.
@@Speeff If it's anything like Titanfall, it's made with a highly modified Source Engine.
what settings do they use compared to the PC?
I was hoping for a screenshot comparison, as the series s version seems slightly blurry compared to other versions, it maybe a upscaling issue as other games have it as well when rendered at 1080p
I wonder why so many last gen games that use DRS have a maximum resolution. DRS, by definition, can allow for potentially unlimited resolutions as performance increases. Why cap that? There was all this talk in the past about how games could automatically adapt to better hardware with tools like this, but that's not the case when they stupidly cap it.
Sure it's nice to see a more complete upgrade, but if they had done DRS right, it might not have been as necessary.
It's probably capped to keep the resolution from fluctuating like crazy.
@@JudeTheRUclipsPoopersubscribe why not let it? If it goes above screen resolution you'd probably never notice it, but it would allow future systems to run it at better quality.
@@AndyGilleand I suppose that's true. A lot of games are 100% locked to 60fps with a max resolution that is being hit most of the time so they do have a lot of headroom. But my console is a series S so on that machine the Drs values usually make a lot of sense
It's less taxing on the hardware and less visually jarring to drop from say 1440p to 1080p than 4k to 1080.
It is somewhat strange that the SSDs couldn’t be fully utilized to provide smooth data streaming between areas.
All they did was use the new SDK, Though obviously not the newest integration , They didn't re-write it for Series X :) .
It wasnt made for the series x and ps5 ssd’s. Hopefully the new fallen order game will be

Yes, this area traversal lag happens in the pc version too. I also installed it on a really high speed ssd, but still has the issue. This is a game engine issue the developers have not implemented the best methods to stream assets in background.

It’s jus a native update, the game wasn’t designed for the ps5 hardware in mind, take the new ratchet and clank for example built from the ground up for ps5, there isn’t any loading at all, that game is blazing fast

@@samuelcunningham7045 yeah RE:VII too the loading is like a blink of an eye.
Great video.
Love the improvements visually….audio wise I’m still disappointed in that there’s still lip sync issues in certain cutscenes…PLUS switching the audio from stereo to headphone to 5.1 to 7.1 doesn’t seem to make any difference and its unclear whether this takes use of PS5’s tempest 3D audio for headphones or Xbox’s Dolby Atmos for headphones.
Back ground streaming is a UE4 issue, its a problem in almost every UE4 game across PC and console. And this is a persistent legacy issue thats never been fully addressed from UE3
Presumably it'll be a focus for UE5, so hopefully, it will be fixed for future games forever
I just wish that the texture streaming was fixed.

Every time I play the first two levels I think that a linear, super streamlined uncharted type star wars game would be a perfect fit, I really like fallen order and how it is structured but I would like to see what they could do if they go the cinematic uncharted route

glad this game has been continually updated as it ran so bad on last gen enhanced consoles.
Popped this game in today on my Xbox One S and boy was there more issues than I remember. Huge frame dips, textures popping in during cutscenes, whole parts of the map not rendered, snail speed loading times. Fun game just not as fun with last gen hardware so it’s good to see this update

ps3 games had to be 'remastered' for ps4 because the inherent differences between the hardwares.. the ps3 architecture required a completely different code base and couldn't run on a ps4, thats really the only reason.. because ps4 and ps5s are the same architecture, it's much easier to cross gen these older games.. but i agree 💯 its a treat this gen to get all these free updates

Hope you guys test Control again. Apparently the latest updates fixed the majority of the heavier frame drops on all platforms and even got rid of those IO stutters on Xbox consoles.
Doesn't really surprise me. The game visuals and perfs have been upgraded, but they didn't the underlying streaming and loading tech just for a remaster.
As Insomniac dev explained in a previous interview about the tech behind Ratchet & Clank, just using the PS5 storage architecture wasn't enough and they now had problems processing the huge amont of data retrieve from the SSD. Be it because the loading tech isn't multi-threaded enough, or just not made to process so much data in such a short time (even if assisted with dedicated chipsets, it's sometime faster to have data less compressed to load faster XD), some structuring changes are sometimes required to take advantage of the new features and its not always profitable to do that much work (which requires lot of QA too) "just" for a remaster which probably won't increase sales.
The game needs a Halo-styled "Loading... Done!" message with a firmer pause - I honestly think those hitches (which appear on all platforms) would go over more easily.
what? no. Those messages are annoying

@@ArthaxtaDaVince777 yeah I'm playing it as we speak. I'm talking about a next gen game on that is on both consoles that isn't also on last gen. Just about every third party game is running cross gen or we get upscaled versions like metro or last Jedi. I can't compare demon souls because it's an exclusive
@@sablemae8853 Doom Eternal next gen update shows Series X playing at 1800p 120fps while PS5 barely gets 1560p. The difference shouldn't be that big, but maybe it will be more apparent in the future.
@@ArthaxtaDaVince777 I don't care about a next gen update. Those aren't full utilization of everything that these consoles can do. I'm talking about a game that's not an update that's not on last gen and only on the new generation. All I want is a full this gen game to compare.
@@ArthaxtaDaVince777 don't get me wrong it's nice to have these updates but it doesn't show how fast next gen games can load and we're only getting a makeup job on these updated games.
Having a 1080p monitor I’m glad the resolution and frame rate on the series s is 1080 60
I also have a series x so I might play it on the 4K tv but it’s like a full hallway away so who knows
That's the 'nice' thing about the new consoles/GPUs! As long as I don't upgrade my 'perfectly fine looking' 1080p ~60hz display then I don't really need to upgrade any hardware!
I can STILL manage 1080p 60fps with MAX settings in most new games, and at worst I can lower settings, or 'settle' for 1080p @ 30fps...
@@stanlee5465 1080p is fine until you see it on a good 4k display
funny thing is I get frame hitches with the new update installed on SSD Series X. Like its loading something for a second.
I've been waiting for this!
