I just now almost finished the first level on ps5. I will have to put it down till it’s patched. The LOD is atrocious, pop in… there was some fire in the level and it honestly looked like ps2/ps3 level of detail. Hopefully, in the next month it’ll get fixed.

The game apparently is only really utilizing 2 cores if the PC review is anything to go by. So turning off RT would probably have a negligible performance improvement.
The game already looks graphically outdated compared to current PS5 exclusives. It will look even more outdated when Wolverine and Spiderman 2 releases

@@crestofhonor2349 In any game its not worth it in my opinion, I have a 3080ti and will always perfer a higher framerate to ray tracing. Ray tracing titles such as portal RTX and minecraft are impressive though.
IMO Planar reflections can look just as good as Ray Traced Reflections (I'm not talking full path tracing), yet, the Planar technique is fully rasterized just like SSR, so it'll be faster than RT and compatible for those without RT hardware. It avoids the SSR pitfalls by still reflecting that which is out of player view. They should have gone this route instead of RT or SSR, maybe.

A low internal resolution would be fine with a proper DLSS or good FSR integration. Sadly DLSS is exclusive to Nvidia cards and the consoles run on AMD cards. And even on PC EA didn't include DLSS, probably because AMD paid them. Plus, you know, Nvidia fucking suck so they've locked frame generation behind the 40 series even if it works on the older RTX cards as well.

Yeah the RT in this game is really not worth the poor image quality and poor performance on the consoles. The image quality in particular is staggeringly poor.

I feel like you were way too kind with this review and undersold just how bad the artifacting, resolution and motion blur issues are. I'm playing it on PS5 and it's a mess no matter what mode and effects are on.
It's not that, there using performance or balanced mode of fsr for upscaling, not quality or ultra quality. Fsr 2.2 looks like a blurry mess on performance mode.
@khaled my mistake, I mean ultra performance. I'm using dlss so don't know much about fsr but I'm pretty sure consoles are using performance or ultra performance. Hopefully switch 2 will have dlss 2 and maybe dlss 3 implementation.
Wish there was an option to disable RT on console. The ps5 and sx cpus just can't handle this much RT while maintaining 60 fps. Even with brutal upscaling this just doesn't cut it.
Yeah, I'm surprised this isn't a toggle option. Overly ambitious to try and be "the best looking console game so far" it seems. Would gladly turn off those features for a smooth experience.
Man, I played performance on the Series X and I had a worse experience than what you showed. Any open world environment dropped frames like they were hot. Massive dips and stutters. Really hope they can fix it because the core gameplay is really fun.
ive just been playing on quality mode. its surprisingly playable, at this point i barely think about the 30 fps. and it looks absolutely stunning, the best graphics of any video game like this ive played to date

I was a PC gamer but left the platform after the terrible launch of Arkham Knight. Since then nothing has changed, every time a AAA game comes out it's a nightmare.

Not sure why this needed a whole video versus a few thoughts added to the previous PS5 video. We got a lot of details on certain aspects but then almost nothing at the core of what the video is titled, comparisons. Very few details "they're about the same." Then with the S its like "I'm surprised it doesn't do x,y, and z" Why are you surprised?
I think it’s because they didn’t get review copies of the game before release, leaving less time to review the game (remember they need to release a video as early as possible or they’ll lose views). If you take that into account, the work they did is actually impressive.
This is a non-starter for me. Neither mode looks to be a good option. Not letting you turn off RT is a very poor choice. It's never worth the performance cost.

DF is being far too soft on this game's problems in my opinion because they are obsessed with RT and want to praise any game that uses it. I completely disagree with that mentality, smooth performance with decent image quality should be the main priority, fancy graphical features are far less important.

Would love for you guys to talk about HDR more in your reviews. Did such a great job a while ago with RDR2 for example. Curious why that coverage hasnt been happening, especially with how buggy the HDR is in Jedi Survivor specifically.
HDR has been the best advancement lately not Ray tracing, fake frames or higher resolution monitors/tvs. Imo. Heck even 4080 can't lock Hogwarts legacy to 60fps mins @ 4k ultra when raytracing slows things down lol. Just a pathetic guise to get people to overspend on way more hardware than they really need. Raytracing is still an entire console generation away for most gamers unless they like PS4 performance on their modern gaming PC.
In terms of visuals, animation, and optimisation, this title is a joke. Just look at what Insomniac got out of the current gen at launch compared to this. There's no excuse, and Respawn should be ashamed.
Not just Insomniac but also SM with GoWR and Guerilla with HBS. 1st party games will always take full advantage of the hardware. Multiplats otoh are not easy given the great variability in hardware

It's wild that Rift Apart released 2 years ago now, and still nobody else (to my knowledge) has achieved anything close to the same level of RT performance. We're still stuck with games like this, that want all the pretties but don't have the optimization needed for it.
Insomniac are just godlike programmers, unfair to compare any other studio with them. I have zero doubts they'll even raise the bar way more with Spider-Man 2.

I'm really enjoying the game. Other than a few low frame rate spots here and there, it's an absolute blast to play. It's a shame that quality mode is more stable than performance mode.
648p to 864p upscaled to 1440p. Yikes. And still having massive performance dips down to 30 in that performance mode. Looks like that 30fps gen starts now that next gen has officially started. At least if you want above 1440p resolution ;p I'll play this in a few years after 20 patches, or perhaps get it at 15 bucks when the Ps6/XboxNew is out.

Just NO games run at 4k/120, or even 4k/60. It's 4k/30, most of the time. Or 1080-1440 at 100-120FPS And raytracing tanks performance AND resolution
One of the few times I disagree with DF. I think the animations are janky, awkward and generally poor, and the vegetation looks like mediocre last gen fare. Ghost of Tsushima is still the gold standard of mind blowingly epic vegetation and the stuff on offer here just can’t compare. But, in the end, gameplay is what counts. I’ll be picking this one up eventually, after patches or a decent sale.
I didn’t know Forbidden West had a 40hz mode, that’s dope! 40hz is great on the steam deck and I hope we start seeing quality modes hit 40fps rather than 30fps soon
@@AntiBellum Forbidden West is the first Sony game that doesn't automatically enter the 40fps mode when you're using a 120hz display. Instead you have to go into the settings and toggle the Visual mode to "Balanced." Other games like God of War Ragnarok, Spider-man, Ratchet, etc. all automatically toggle the 40fps mode when the game is set to Quality mode and the output display supports 120hz. Insomniac's games have a separate 120hz toggle that you can disable to toggle back to 30fps.

It's baffling to have games that perform this bad alongside with games like Horizon Forbidden West that look stunning and perform many times better on the same platform.

To be fair, FSR generally looks much better at higher framerates. at 30fps is kind of atrocious, but if you are at 60fps (or preferably above. like 90-120fps), the temporal resolve is much quicker and is able to salvage much more of the intended detail. Honestly it's the same with DLSS... upscaling isn't very good at 33.33ms... there's just too much space between frames.
It's sad that I'm seeing countless people standing up for the game online, saying things like "who cares about performance and FPS drops, nobody needs more than 30 FPS".
The saddest thing about this debacle is that at its core Jedi: Survivor is a great game that may even be GOTY contender but it's marred by the god awful performance and optimisation.

I feel like DF has been missing some obvious issues lately. RE4 Remake has major texture streaming issues especially on XSX, but it was never addressed. Also I feel like this video wasted a lot of time just gushing about the lighting... Didn't really help me to decide which console to buy this game on at all.
I'm really surprised that the results for the 30fps resolution mode came in as stable as they did; playing it on PS5 I feel like resolution mode is prone to constant stuttering, particularly when moving the camera (i.e. all the time)

Ray tracing is funamentally better than SSR. It has a ton of advantages over traditional rasterization techniques. The only issue is that it's expensive but it's very cool tech and can do many things rasterization cannot do or is far more efficient at doing.
And they said these new Consoles would be able to offer 60fps with rtx and all the other bells and whistles. It's the last time I purchase a game console. I'll be getting a PC next time.

If RT was stripped from performance mode on consoles entirely, user reception would have been very, very different with an easy game to recommend to anyone. As it stands, this game is not a recommendation.
IMO, RTGI is the best aspect and most impactful of the 4 common RT features - global illumination, shadows, reflections, and ambient occlusion. I wonder if it's the most expensive as well as it's the one most often not included in the RT features of any given game.
Honestly, the Series S version is the most impressive to me. Not the best, but the most impressive. Considering Series X and PS5 are struggling to hit 720p at 30fps, it's remarkably close.
@@kraenk12 the “all digital” ain’t the selling point of the series s. It’s the smallest xbox to date and yet is incredibly more powerful than any last gen console. It’s also the cheapest and is always in stock unlike Series X and Ps5. I’d much prefer a Series X for a more seamless experience but I’m perfectly fine with a series S until the X is more available.
Series S might have been a good idea early on, but now it's just a waste of devs time/money/etc - time and money that could have gone into the main builds/systems.
You can not go to 1080p console in 2013 to 4K console in 2020. Well, we got games on Xbox 360 running at 600p, 640p resolution when it was a 720p console

Respectfully, I think you guys are being a bit too kind to Jedi: Survivor on consoles. The drops in frame rate in Performance Mode are more atrocious than you suggest here. For proof, keep running around the open areas of Koboh. One especially egregious example is Fort Kah'lin. Just run around there, fight enemies, etc., and you'll see that the game struggles mightily to stay even above 30 FPS (again, in Performance Mode). Screen tearing and pop-in are abundant. This game is in such a shoddy technical state, I'm amazed it was released this way. What a mess. Serious work needs to be done to get this game looking and running well.
The saddest part of all is that’s all it would take. Hurt the shareholders and the companies start shaping up. Just hold onto your $70 for even just six months after launch and you’ll see wonders.
What does pre ordering got to do with them completing and finishing a game properly? If anything pre-ordering will give them more money to finish the game. The problem is they're releasing these games before they're finished.

The "60fps" still just feels better to play even with the issues imo. I jumped back and forth multiple times and the 30fps camera panning just kills it for me. I'm hoping we get a locked 60, no RT and FSR 2.2 in a month or so.
Going back and forth will definitely play better in the 60fps modes favor but if you stick with the 30fps mode for a while it becomes less "jarring". It's that switch that makes it seem so much worse then it actually is

I believed that when FSR2 would start being used on consoles it would be always at the Quality present just to give a little boost to performance to help developers optimize. I was wrong.
Series S getting sloppy seconds most of the time just reminds me of the Switch with semi-recent ports. Sometimes, you just go, why even bother when it is the worst of both worlds.

Why are we chasing RayTracing so hard, that our games need to run at 720p to get decent performance? The industry needs to re-evaluate.
A low internal resolution would be fine with a proper DLSS or good FSR integration. Sadly DLSS is exclusive to Nvidia cards and the consoles run on AMD cards. And even on PC EA didn't include DLSS, probably because AMD paid them. Plus, you know, Nvidia fucking suck so they've locked frame generation behind the 40 series even if it works on the older RTX cards as well.

Seeing 5 shots in a row where I couldn’t even tell the difference between RT GI on and off with a narration saying how gamechanging the difference is was wild.
Some GI implementions are good enough without RT. I feel like it's not worth the performance hit on mid-tier systems.

I tried playing this for the 2nd time today and had to put it down again. The frame rate was still awful on ps5. Such a shame.

Ray tracing is the most overhyped "technology" I've ever seen or better yet barely can see without it being pointed out by these tech videos.

The issue with the upscaling is that they are still using FSR2.0, instead of FSR 2.2
It's not that, there using performance or balanced mode of fsr for upscaling, not quality or ultra quality. Fsr 2.2 looks like a blurry mess on performance mode.

Wish there was an option to disable RT on console. The ps5 and sx cpus just can't handle this much RT while maintaining 60 fps. Even with brutal upscaling this just doesn't cut it.

Man, I played performance on the Series X and I had a worse experience than what you showed. Any open world environment dropped frames like they were hot. Massive dips and stutters. Really hope they can fix it because the core gameplay is really fun.

Not sure why this needed a whole video versus a few thoughts added to the previous PS5 video. We got a lot of details on certain aspects but then almost nothing at the core of what the video is titled, comparisons. Very few details "they're about the same." DF is being far too soft on this game's problems in my opinion because they are obsessed with RT and want to praise any game that uses it. I completely disagree with that mentality, smooth performance with decent image quality should be the main priority, fancy graphical features are far less important.

Would love for you guys to talk about HDR more in your reviews. Did such a great job a while ago with RDR2 for example. Curious why that coverage hasnt been happening, especially with how buggy the HDR is in Jedi Survivor specifically.

HDR for me turns the image almost entirely black with a few highlights.
HDR has been the best advancement lately not Ray tracing, fake frames or higher resolution monitors/tvs. Imo. Heck even 4080 can't lock Hogwarts legacy to 60fps mins @ 4k ultra when raytracing slows things down lol. Just a pathetic guise to get people to overspend on way more hardware than they really need. Raytracing is still an entire console generation away for most gamers unless they like PS4 performance on their modern gaming PC.
HDR is not even noticeable compared to SDR. The colors look identical just the whites are brighter but thats about it. Not sure all this hype for HDR

In terms of visuals, animation, and optimisation, this title is a joke. Just look at what Insomniac got out of the current gen at launch compared to this. There's no excuse, and Respawn should be ashamed.

It's wild that Rift Apart released 2 years ago now, and still nobody else (to my knowledge) has achieved anything close to the same level of RT performance. We're still stuck with games like this, that want all the pretties but don't have the optimization needed for it.

I'm really enjoying the game. Other than a few low frame rate spots here and there, it's an absolute blast to play. It's a shame that quality mode is more stable than performance mode.
648p to 864p upscaled to 1440p. Yikes. And still having massive performance dips down to 30 in that performance mode. Looks like that 30fps gen starts now that next gen has officially started. At least if you want above 1440p resolution ;p I'll play this in a few years after 20 patches, or perhaps get it at 15 bucks when the Ps6/XboxNew is out.

One of the few times I disagree with DF. I think the animations are janky, awkward and generally poor, and the vegetation looks like mediocre last gen fare. Ghost of Tsushima is still the gold standard of mind blowingly epic vegetation and the stuff on offer here just can’t compare. But, in the end, gameplay is what counts. I’ll be picking this one up eventually, after patches or a decent sale.

@@AntiBellum Forbidden West is the first Sony game that doesn't automatically enter the 40fps mode when you're using a 120hz display. Instead you have to go into the settings and toggle the Visual mode to "Balanced." Other games like God of War Ragnarok, Spider-man, Ratchet, etc. all automatically toggle the 40fps mode when the game is set to Quality mode and the output display supports 120hz. Insomniac's games have a separate 120hz toggle that you can disable to toggle back to 30fps.

Consoles have their limitations but damn, games are so extremely unoptimized nowadays. Nothing done in order to run better.
And unlike the last generation, the performance gap between the consoles and PC isn't enough for the PC to brute force past the performance issues.
To be fair, FSR generally looks much better at higher framerates. at 30fps is kind of atrocious, but if you are at 60fps (or preferably above. like 90-120fps), the temporal resolve is much quicker and is able to salvage much more of the intended detail. Honestly it's the same with DLSS... upscaling isn't very good at 33.33ms... there's just too much space between frames.

I feel like DF has been missing some obvious issues lately. RE4 Remake has major texture streaming issues especially on XSX, but it was never addressed. Also I feel like this video wasted a lot of time just gushing about the lighting... Didn't really help me to decide which console to buy this game on at all.

I'm really surprised that the results for the 30fps resolution mode came in as stable as they did; playing it on PS5 I feel like resolution mode is prone to constant stuttering, particularly when moving the camera (i.e. all the time)

Ray tracing is funamentally better than SSR. It has a ton of advantages over traditional rasterization techniques. The only issue is that it's expensive but it's very cool tech and can do many things rasterization cannot do or is far more efficient at doing.

ON PC you can switch it on and off as you please.
If RT was stripped from performance mode on consoles entirely, user reception would have been very, very different with an easy game to recommend to anyone. As it stands, this game is not a recommendation.

IMO, RTGI is the best aspect and most impactful of the 4 common RT features - global illumination, shadows, reflections, and ambient occlusion. I wonder if it's the most expensive as well as it's the one most often not included in the RT features of any given game.

Respectfully, I think you guys are being a bit too kind to Jedi: Survivor on consoles. The drops in frame rate in Performance Mode are more atrocious than you suggest here. For proof, keep running around the open areas of Koboh. One especially egregious example is Fort Kah'lin. Just run around there, fight enemies, etc., and you'll see that the game struggles mightily to stay even above 30 FPS (again, in Performance Mode). Screen tearing and pop-in are abundant. This game is in such a shoddy technical state, I'm amazed it was released this way. What a mess. Serious work needs to be done to get this game looking and running well.

Even Nintendo got lazy after 15 years of people tolerating this crap, and they were a company with highly polished game up to the late WiiU.
I really think the 30fps mode should hold a locked 30. That's a very low bar, and yet the game doesn't always manage it right now
The "60fps" still just feels better to play even with the issues imo. I jumped back and forth multiple times and the 30fps camera panning just kills it for me. I'm hoping we get a locked 60, no RT and FSR 2.2 in a month or so.
Going back and forth will definitely play better in the 60fps modes favor but if you stick with the 30fps mode for a while it becomes less "jarring". It's that switch that makes it seem so much worse then it actually is
OLED tv's feel super jarring at 30 fps, that might have something to say. 30 fps felt okay on my old plasma tv.
If it was locked 30 I wouldn’t mind , but feels like it is not , so u will have tearing if u don’t have vrr no matter what.

@@Narkissos_1 You'd have tearing no matter what, since 30 fps is outside of the VRR range (48 fps for ps5 and 40 for Xbox).

I believed that when FSR2 would start being used on consoles it would be always at the Quality present just to give a little boost to performance to help developers optimize.
I was wrong.
Series S getting sloppy seconds most of the time just reminds me of the Switch with semi-recent ports. Sometimes, you just go, why even bother when it is the worst of both worlds.
What's wrong with the Series S beside that it doesn't have a performance mode?
@@crestofhonor2349 I'd say Series S feels like getting the last gen version of a game that doesn't even have last gen version. You'll still pay 70 bucks though.
@@crestofhonor2349 It's not quite as bad as Switch but you are still not getting any of the big graphical or performance options of its bigger brother. it is a case by case basis but it really does feel like you are getting leftovers.
Well if you want the best graphics pay the extra for the Series X or PS5. The Series S is a budget console and a great one at that to run the latest games while to me Nintendo is irrelevant in modern gaming.
@@stevenbaksh5545 Budget yes. Great no. Whatever you save in the original purchase will come to bite you back in the lack of features, graphics and performance. Series S was a good thing in the chip shortage era but that's about it.

I agree about 3 mins of the video is series X and then they show bugs using series X footage only. Not the first time I’ve noticed this with DF.
I wonder if the Series S settings could play at a consistent 60fps on Series X/PS5. If so that could be a preferred method of play for some.
Or just a proformance mode without ray tracing.
