all these people saying "ps5 has better shadows" 1)please go outside and actually see how shadows are supposed to look, u perhaps forgot 2)the highest PC shadow settings are very similar to series X's, more diffused
This isn't ray tracing goofball. If it was you'd have a point. In this case blurrier means worse...that's why he pointed out Xbox Series S having lower quality shadows compared to PS5 and Series X but Series S had the blurriest shadow. Also there is no PC version to compare so you're just throwing shit at the wall trying to damage control. This isn't the first or the last game where PS5 will have higher graphical settings than Xbox Series X so you might as well get used to it.
Honestly I just played a few hours of it on PS5 just now and I gotta say… I am impressed by the level of polish here.. which is such a rare thing these days sooo kudos to the devs for that! wow. this game looks awesome. the resolution and framerate target are spot on. overall the best release of 2023 so far. even the older consoles are playing it very nice.
I honestly can’t believe there are people in the comments complaining that the devs are lazy because the game is ‘only’ 1800p 60. This is why games are going to launch at 30 fps the further into the gen we go. The average casual console player only cares about graphics and do not want to sacrifice even a little bit of visuals for 60 fps. No wonder devs can’t make up their minds as to whether they want to push higher resolution and better visuals or if they want to push 60 fps. Even players can’t make up their minds and in the console space, they can’t have both.
I'm playing on my One S, and i'm quite shocked how well the game is holding up on it! Was expecting something awful with how low powered it is compared to everything else, and have just ended up enjoying it overall!
Cant praise this game enough for being a game that just runs good and stable. Day one. I’d rather have this than any next gen bells and whistles. Who cares about ambition, I’ll take smooth all day. The ambition came in the flesh engine.
Great tech comparison video as always. Would love however for there to be some sort of insight on the features of the dualsense and 3d audio for ps5 owners. Just some flesh for thought

Almost 3 years into the next gen & the last gen goes strong.. Kudos for making it playable and enjoyable on the last gen consoles as well. It deserves it!
I'm loving the game and the fact its stable, not buggy and a complete experience day 1 is something the devs deserve praise for. rewarding things like that are what's gonna set a good standard for games in the future, kind of bummed there's no sort of ray tracing on the current gen but that feels sort of nitpicky when dambuster really brought us a very solid game. that is not only one of my favorite games i've played on current generation so far but the only game i can think of that has been stuck in development hell for nearly a decade and came out as a very polished and incredibly awesome game
I love how Digital Foundry talks about Xbox versions as a footnote in these comparison videos /s. Didn't even mention the load times on the Series consoles. Been noticing this of late.
Holy shit. Thats 2 miracles for the studio. 1st, they resurrected Dead Island and did not suck, 2 they even managed to that while being so optimized that DF has the approvql of "optimized". A seal so valuable and quite rare in todays state of launches.
Playing the game on PS5 definitely feels like a last-gen game: the stiffness in gameplay, the way shadows artifact, and physics which were lauded by reviews leave much to be desired. Still happy it's finally out and available on so many systems, but with so much time in the oven one has to wonder, why not just make it current-gen only and show what the developer can do instead of making this feel like an over priced indie game with detailed world environment.
it really is. Cross-Gen is bad for everyone and leads to broken launches and buggy mediocre games that do nothing new and just rehash the same shit over and over.
I bought it today on PC on a whim because I fancied a nice open world escape after a shitty week at work... and it is incredibly well optimised! On an i712700, 32gb, rtx3070ti, gsync laptop it runs at a perfect 60fps with no framepacing issues on all high settings. I think it will run at up to 90fps without stutter too but I couldn't get Reshade running with it to display fps to gauge my fps threshold with it. I could set it to 120fps in the settings but that saw a little stutter, hence why I think a little below it will be a sweet point! Anyway, it runs extremely well out of the box on PC, I'm really surprised!
God that's the one thing I HATE about PS4 Pro and Xbox One X. PS4 Pro specifically. Let me set the resolution to 1080P. I don't care about 4K, and it makes my console sound like a jet engine taking off.
You *can* in the console settings but in-game it'll still be rendering at 1440p or higher though. This really sucks and the reason why I sold my Pro as I couldn't handle the jet plane noise anymore.
Incredibly impressive work even on the old base xbox. Not bad for a game that was in nearly a decade of development hell. Dambusters should hold this game up with pride.
PC version technical review (PC Gamer): "I played through Dead Island 2 on two separate builds, one that was relatively high end (Ryzen 9 5900X, RTX 4080, 64GB RAM) and another that was a bit more modest (i7-7820X, GeForce RTX 2060 SUPER, 16GB RAM), and both generally ran pretty smoothly. In fact, even the more modest build managed to run the game with all settings on Ultra - with only minor FPS drops compared to its beefier counterpart. Regardless of which build I ran the game on, I did run into some pretty hefty FPS drops during certain set pieces in the main story. These issues seemed to be the exception rather than the rule however, as from what I tested, the game seems to run extremely well even on relatively dated hardware - something that was a bit of a relief given the recent uptick in poorly optimised PC ports."
This game looks so pristine and the level design adds to that. It’s truly a very beautiful and polished game. Wish there was some RT for reflections & more SSR instead of cube maps.
@@kubeanie18 But the Radeon 7970 and 7870 can hardly run this game. These two cards used to be called the PS4 equivalent or better according to PC fanboys 10 years ago. If you got the money burning a hole in your pocket it’s not a bad buy but I definitely wouldn’t fault someone who waited for a sale.
@@TnerB91 Yup that's what I'm looking for too, I'll grab it once it's on sale!

@@alexanderluna1845 well you won't be disappointed, this looks amazing on my C1 OLED running on ps5. Enjoy the new OLED!

Very refreshing to see a release that runs so smoothly across multiple consoles. Some games worry about having like 5 different graphical settings but don't make sure any one of them works really well. Better off to make sure the base settings work smoothly then add from there..
Very impressed with the devs here. A game that's released on all consoles with a stable frame rates is rare these days. I love the colour of the game and the world. Will definitely pick this up at some point.
I was waiting to get this one, but honestly, I give these guys props for finally getting this thing out in such a decent state, so I went ahead and grabbed the deluxe. Gj fellas.
The fact that this is a relatively short video for all the platforms covered is a good sign.
Edit: the game runs fine on all platforms covered in the video
It covers all consoles, not platforms. It doesn't compare and barely mentions PC. Thats a shame
@@psy-bun this one is just a Last Gen vs This Gent comparison... they will release more videos for certain.
@@TaskerTech Yea I get it, just wish they would combine it in one video. It always seems as if PC is excluded with their videos, especially considering people don't always run top end PCs and lower end PCs would compare well with last-gen consoles. But I digress
@@psy-bun because Alex has been doing PC only content on these things for the last few years?
@@psy-bun It's better for creators (on RUclips specifically) to make as much content as possible as frequently as they can. It makes more sense for different people on staff to cover different platforms or analysis styles.
I still can’t believe this game actually released, and that it’s pretty good:
Do you fanboys have any proper opinion or just copy paste the same comment in all videos?
@@xacvhFAs Do Dead Island fanboys even exist? The game is like 10 years old. This is probably a common comment because many people who saw the 2014 announcement trailer never thought the game would see the light of day. It’s a pretty inane comment though. Is your life that miserable that seeing a throwaway comment throws you into a frenzy, punching the air, and cursing the God that placed you in this cruel world? Come on man. What a weird response.

@Two-wheelsCollector93 You can't read a couple sentences? Double digit IQ moment .
all these people saying "ps5 has better shadows"
1)please go outside and actually see how shadows are supposed to look, u perhaps forgot
2)the highest PC shadow settings are very similar to series X's, more diffused
This isn't ray tracing goofball. If it was you'd have a point. In this case blurrier means worse...that's why he pointed out Xbox Series S having lower quality shadows compared to PS5 and Series X but Series S had the blurriest shadow.
Also there is no PC version to compare so you're just throwing shit at the wall trying to damage control. This isn't the first or the last game where PS5 will have higher graphical settings than Xbox Series X so you might as well get used to it.
Triggered much.
The ps fanboys don’t go outside buddy.
True idk why would they say that. Must still hurt that xsx has better specs than super genius mark cerny station lol
A game that works at launch should be applauded these days and it doesn't suck either!
Overall this seems to be a great technical package. Kudos to the devs.
Honestly I just played a few hours of it on PS5 just now and I gotta say… I am impressed by the level of polish here.. which is such a rare thing these days sooo kudos to the devs for that! I don’t think anyone expected this game to blow the doors down or be a GOTY contender but the game is pretty decent .. nothing amazing or anything but it’s fun and it’s well made. The flesh system however is the highlight here.. that is such cool tech .. Im really enjoying that!!
They Did such a great job, runs and looks great with a fresh gore system. I can die happy having seen it Launch and someone created a procedural anatomical damage system, I almost ended up doing it myself
wow. this game looks awesome. the resolution and framerate target are spot on. overall the best release of 2023 so far.
even the older consoles are playing it very nice.
Looks great, runs great and seems to be a solid game. Extremely impressive after the crazy dev cycle these dudes definitely deserve praise for this.
I love that they put this game out with stable framerates, so refreshing!
i wish every game released as polished and well-scoped as this seems to be.
Looks better than redfall and has 60fps👀
This game looks better than most next gen games. And it genuinely has the best gore physics I’ve ever seen. Even better than ILL
I'm playing on my One S, and i'm quite shocked how well the game is holding up on it! Was expecting something awful with how low powered it is compared to everything else, and have just ended up enjoying it overall!
I’ve been looking forward to this one. Been watching the channel for years really love and appreciate the content!

@@johnbishop2536 so crazy that I noticed a comment while I'm reading comments.
Just some flesh for thought
controller isnt utilized so far in my time playing
Also 🤔I wonder why he didn't mention the obvious lower quality shadows in the Xbox Series X version when compared to the PS5 version in the same section he pointed out Xbox Series S lower quality shadow maps @9:44????
@born2serve92 ohhhh thats is very disappointing. So far pc is winning for me
Does it have Adaptative triggers?
Kudos Dambuster studios! You delivered a fully competent and fun game against all the odds stacked against you! We'll be watching your career with great interest.
Amazin work by Dambuster
I could listen to Tom all day! 😂 Love his videos
Thank you for the review Tom as always!
And iam so happy for this game, so much problems in the development and here it is! Great optimization, nice graphics, on ALL platforms in the day of release without 10x patches.
Shame on some developers who betatesting their games on release, so players test for them. (Also sorry for my bad english)
It's really nice to see such a stable launch, both on last gen and current gen. It's a great looking, and great running game, no matter what hardware you have. Refreshing to see.
Kudos to Dambusters.
Good to see that a good looking game comes out rather polished in terms of performance these days.
It’s great to see a polished 60fps game 👏🏼
Almost 3 years into the next gen & the last gen goes strong.. Kudos for making it playable and enjoyable on the last gen consoles as well. It deserves it!
The team should be incredibly proud to turn out such a polished product across seven SKUs! Well done!
It managed to come out and be a pretty good game after all these years and dev changes. 👍
It's a 6/10 that costs 70 dollars. Nothing good about any of that
One of those times where the delays paid off. Current gen version doesn't look held back at all, yet the older systems still have solid performance.
Looks better than Redfall
wayyy better
Absolutely loving this game so far, about 5 hours in on series X. It's a throwback to when games were fun and worked on day one.
Please more day 1 console reviews !!! It lets us who own both consoles make a better purchasing decision
Is there a contest for game developer of the year? Because if so, Dambuster Studios should win. Absolute legends.
This is how a game should release. I hope other publishers are taking notes.
10:32 load times are even faster than that for me because i installed a 4tb M.2 Gen4x4 SSD with 7400mbs read speeds it's super fast ⚡️⚡️⚡️⚡️

Being nit picky here but also looks like series s treats hair differently. 9.59 in the vid the hair looks like their are less strands.
Holy shit. Thats 2 miracles for the studio. 1st, they resurrected Dead Island and did not suck, 2 they even managed to that while being so optimized that DF has the approvql of "optimized". A seal so valuable and quite rare in todays state of launches.
Finally! Need to know before I buy.
Their FLESH engine is basically the holy grail for gory zombie games. Nice.. Looks good, runs good. Well done.
Even PS5 only games look like last gen games lol
PS5 new game FF7 rebirth and rise of ronin looks like a PS3 game
Finally a game not influenced by any company like PlayStation or Microsoft and is great every we’re
The video I was waiting for !!!
10:20, spoke with the lead designer, and it was done so they could detail the maps more compared to an open world game
Love all your videos❤
Incredibly impressive work even on the old base xbox. Not bad for a game that was in nearly a decade of development hell. Dambusters should hold this game up with pride.
Gotta say the lighting in this game looks really nice, I did not think this was running in UE4.
I can't believe a new AAA game got released with no issues at launch and all around stable performance, especially on last gen!
FOV slider on current gen consoles? Hell yeah! Will pick this up on PS5 next week!
I know I was surprised to see that.
@@johnwest6977 That's a massive bonus. Love me some FOV slider
PC version technical review (PC Gamer):
"I played through Dead Island 2 on two separate builds, one that was relatively high end (Ryzen 9 5900X, RTX 4080, 64GB RAM) and another that was a bit more modest (i7-7820X, GeForce RTX 2060 SUPER, 16GB RAM), and both generally ran pretty smoothly.
Thanks,
DI2 runs fine also on my PC, 4K Ultra, 120 fps prety stable…

@@kubeanie18 But the Radeon 7970 and 7870 can hardly run this game. These two cards used to be called the PS4 equivalent or better according to PC fanboys 10 years ago. Today they cannot even run Resident evil 4 remake at 540p 25fps low settings. So yes it is very impressive indeed for PS4 to run this game with these visuals at locked 30fps
