- A trilogy remastered. All three games in the Legendary Edition get tested today in a comprehensive look at PS5, Xbox Series X and S machines. The Xbox Series X version in particular is standout for a stable 4K60 mode - plus a bonus 120Hz option not seen on the PS5 system at present. But how do they stack up against each other - and what of the visual 'upgrades' over the original Mass Effect?

You guys have bad eyesight and non reliable memory 🧠
@@Keepskatin Maybe youre just too young to understand many things. You obviously werent around when old games came out, they were amazing graphics for their times, and now they can be unplayable. But if you played an old game when it first arrived on the scene, you would have been impressed, and that impression would leave a lasting imprint of how your memory compares an old game you havent played in over a decade or two, to games you have gotten used to in the present. Actually revisiting an older title can be jarring as you have fond memories of a game that is now aged for better or worse
Exactly how i feel, i remember playing mass effect 1 and 2 and everything would look like the remaster to me

Hey DF. I was wondering if you guys might do a "farewell" video for the Xbox One/PS4 generation? To take a look back at the graphics and performance showcases, maybe get some devs in to talk about the quirks of each of the systems, anecdotes. etc. I would love to see it.

12:30 is a problematic and stuttery location on many systems, has always been since the OG release of ME1 and I guess that is why it is featured in so many clips in this vid. It is an area that drops my fps from 100-144 to 60+ just when looking in that direction, no matter the resolution or other graphics settings on an RTX2070. Seems like a culling optimisation issue in UE3 because the same fps drop happens if you go to the other end of the Citadel and look toward this point, the same thing happens.
This is the video I wanted from DF this week. Thank you, gentlemen.

This is amazing. ME1 is really hard to get into on PC. Mods, fixes, control issues, antiquated gameplay. This is a great reason to give it another go.
Yeah the work done on ME 1 was one of my main reasons for getting this remaster. Not just the PC specific fixes like making it work "out of the box" with controllers (any X-input based ones I think), fixes to work perfectly on modern Windows, and most of all the gameplay tweaks they made to ME 1. I love Mass Effect but could never really get into ME 1 like I did ME 2 and 3. So far a few hours in this remaster and the tweaks they have made to ME 1 have worked for me and I'm enjoying it a lot.

I think that Series S resolution should be modified in a patch. 1440p/30fps for quality and 1080p/60fps for perfomance. Hopefully that would deliver no fps loss at each resolution and no tearing.
Also, and I insist this should be on EVERY game out there on every console, there should be a fps unlock toggable option on every 30fps game, scratch that, on every game that has any fps lock, for future proofing and/or user choice. This way, newer consoles, or newer iterations of same console could improve perfomance. I still remember BioShock and Saints Row 2-3 on PS3-360 having that option and both now play at 60fps on Xbox Series X (all 360 games, not remasters).
Anyway, ME Legendary Edition looks absolutely great, going to get it on SX. Thanks!

I was really hoping Bioware would finally fix the constraint they had regarding Saren's character model. Originally, the goal was to have Saren start out as a normal Turian and then slowly morph over the course of the game into the organic/synthetic hybrid we initially see. The Xbox 360 with it's RAM capacity couldn't accommodate that plan so they ended up just sticking with the one model, so they say. I was thinking that with the current hardware, even PS4/Xbox One could have made that a reality but I guess not, and you have to witness that scene of Saren with obvious Geth enhancements on him and the Citadel Council is like "there's no way this guy is evil"

Just a heads-up HDR is bugged on Xbox series consoles. If you have auto HDR turned on it enables it for the launcher and the games for some reason, even though the compatibility options say it's disabled. If you disable auto HDR in your video settings HDR is disabled in the launcher, but works once you launch the game. The auto HDR version isn't horrible, but the real HDR version definitely looks nicer.
So turn off auto HDR?
Thats because this game is a remasterd with hdr 4k 60fps ,auto hdr will only be enable in older games like a skyrim for example .

5:33 - Not screen space reflections. Notice how reflected geometry/objects
don't vanish when out of view. In other cases, the angles don't add up
for screen space reflections. Like the panorama windows in the Flux bar
on the Citadel. These are likely planar reflections.
Want to see comparisons to PS4 base, PS4 Pro, other Xbox models and PC if possible.
I have a VRR tv (Q80T) and a series X. 120 fps is pretty smooth, I don't notice the swings in framerate with VRR and it definitely feels more smooth than 60 fps, though 60 fps is more than smooth enough. the 1440p, I can see a slight softening though in my display. So its more preference. Maybe the resolution diff would seem better if I had a smaller screen (I have a 65" and only sit like 7' away). VRR is definitely nice to have, as then you don't notice frame drops like if your display was fixed (I use my tv as a pc monitor too, once you go VRR/Gsync/freesync, you do not go back to fixed framerate, no matter how "locked" a game seems you notice every little stutter without it).
You don't need 120fps for a third person shooter. 120fps are mostly for fps.
So, the best choice is 4k and 60fps for thus game. Clarity and 60fps without the need for VRR or a lower resolution.
@@kostasbousbouras2654 I mean or you can just let him choose what he wants to play with it’s not like the option for 4k 60fps isn’t there anyways
@@kostasbousbouras2654 If my OLED was newer and had 120hz and VRR, I would be playing 120hz for sure. The difference between 1440p and 4k to me just doesn't matter much while an ultra buttery smooth framerate is always appreciated.
I have the same TV and I can't perceive any drops at all either.
Makes me wonder - if Devs can't get that perfectly fixed 120fps they should probably add a little text disclaimer "recommended for use with VRR displays" or something.
@@Buffinator1988 I wish games would add an unlocked frame rate mode for those of us with VRR. So you’d get “quality”, “performance” and “unlocked for VRR”. One can dream, perhaps when VRR TVs have been around for a few years and HDMI 2.1 is better adopted we will see such an option.
Did they change the way reflections are handled sometime after this review? They're definately not screenspace any more. I can look down at water and see everything reflected from the tops of the trees to the sky. It's not just static objects either, NPCs offscreen are also fully reflected.
The instant loading times are the best improvement, you got to be a speed reader for the tips lol
Love seeing the Original and Legendary side by side. This remaster bundle is incredible. I always loved ME1 but it was always the hardest to go back to. Now that I'm playing the Legendary Edition I'm really enjoying the combat and visuals of ME1. I also love that they've added a photo mode! $60 for three games with all of these improvements and all 40 DLC (most of which cost $5-15 each in the original games) this Legendary Edition is awesome.
Great video as usual. Went Series X on this release and picked up Returnal for PS5. No regrets.
Best of both worlds :)
Returnal is the worst game of the year lmao
Returnal has entered my most unique games list
Such a great game and I've never expected it to be that great In artwork, creativity and gameplay from a studio that is not even mainstream
Puts other popular stuidos AAA titles to shame
@@john45hhh yep. Got lucky and was able to pick up both consoles out the gate. Looking at how things are right now, I realize how lucky I got. People are still struggling to get either systems.
@@danny.4506 Nope.
@ 12:29 I believe that area of the citadel was like that in the original PC version. I believe that might be a engine limitation from 2007. As that's the largest and most complex area in the game (with NPC, size, water, trees).
I will miss Shepard's sprint from ME1 that was, the camera is now slightly closer
i think they did an amazing job
it makes FUN now to play ME1
Looking forward to actual nextgen native copies, backward compatible games always use last gen hardware as the foundation so SX generally has the edge with that.
Geat video, waiting on the pc version analysis tho. NEED FAST
Does anyone remember the sound of the ME1 sniper rifle and its echoing BOOM? I was genuinely impressed by that back in the day.
Anyway, the remaster looks about as good as it gets without an engine overhaul. As if the last-gen version had a layer of vaseline smeared all over it due to its blurriness. Absolutely love the sharp textures.
