The only Fishman Fluence pickups I've tried were the strat singlecoils. They sounded pretty authentic, however the absolutely lack the feel of real singlecoils... I didn't like them.
Ive had a SC sig set and a regular modern 7 set for about 3-4 years. They are certainly for high gain but you can get some interesting clean sounds for sure. I have mine wired to have voice one and two on the tone push pull and inner coil tapped on the volume push pull. The coil tap helps for cleans cause it lowers output and on the neck pickup voice 2 is really the best clean tones these pickups offer. With that said I use clean tones almost more than dirty, my marshall DSL100HR excells at both. But if i was only going to have one guitar theres no way in hell it would have fishman fluence moderns in it lol. They are really fun pickups to have and do a MASSIVE gain tone but they just are too high output to do all the low gain and clean stuff i like to do. So i have a 7 string LTD that has the Fishman Modern 7's in it (It has a SC sig in the middle which is what im refering to when i say neck but thats the same as the Fluence modern 7 neck, his sig set only changed the bridge voicing and i wasnt a fan of it) and i have a Schecter six string with a JB/59 set that i wired for coil splits on both. With the coils splits the Schecter is an incredible clean tone guitar. Anyways, if cleans are important to you dont put fishmans in your main guitar. They are fun and can do some killer tones and their cleans arent useless. The cleans just arent traditional and lots of guitar players probably wouldnt like not being able to get traditional tones out of their main guitar.
The advantage of having the PR guy and the Demo guy being one and the same is very useful :) thinking about the KSE set. i never commited to active's because i didn't want to lose the warm neck, this might be the ticket.
Order them NOW? Anywhere? Uh, nope. I am very interesting in ordering these (either the Adlers or Killswitch PUs), but I can't find them anywhere. So, when do they actually come out? My brother works at Guitar Center and he can't order them for me yet...
They will be available at the very least from Sweetwater online after NAMM is over. Guitar Center will take a bit longer to get them in as they have a corporate buyer who selects what to carry before they can order them on a store level. I don't think Ken knew how quickly the video would be uploaded by Premier Guitar.
Not sure if you are aware of this, but this video actually took quite a while to get uploaded. NAMM 17 ended on Jan 28. Fluff (Ryan Bruce, a friend of Ken's) and Guitar World put up similar videos to this one a month ago. I have been checking Sweetwater weekly since NAMM ended. There is one guy on eBay selling the Killswitch PUs, but nobody else has anything.
I emailed Fishman about this 2 weeks ago, specifically in regards to the Tosin Abasi models. This was their response on 2/28: "I've been told these will be shipping to stores in the next couple weeks. I would assume you'll see them in stores after the 2nd week in March."
Pete Luisi Thanks for the info Pete. The Tosin pickups look really nice too. Tosin put up a comparison video on his RUclips page and the cleans sound incredible.
I think this was a good review....he didn't use clean but he even said that they weren't because of the artist they were promoting. but I did like the fact that he gave a clean signal for tosin especially after admitting that we can't play like him...
Oh man I knew I recognized him, I just went and watched "Zombie Autopilot" again and...sure enough there he was. That's cool he works with Fishman now. It makes a lot more sense that he filled in with KSE now.
the hater comments here are comical. as if their ears are better than a greg koch or any of the other ever-growing numbers of A-list players defecting to Fishman. sounds to me like some emg and duncan fan-boys are butt-hurt. this is the next level, but you don't have to like it.
The Fishmans sound alright, but I personally don't care for the tone. They're not as groundbreaking as everyone has talked them up to be. If i want to go for the Killswitch tone, I'll use an EMG 85, seeing as that IS the tone from The End Of Heartache, As Daylight Dies, and the second Self Titled records. And if I want to go for Lamb of God's tone, I'll use some Duncans.
Crazy how Ken has like morphed from rocker to salesman...I still love him, he's great at both jobs
Fishman are taking over. Everyone is going to them.
And here I am such a hater thinking "They sound like higher active more gain EMG's"....
just like everyone went to seymour duncan blackouts years ago. i haven't played them but it may be a fad.
I think I'm the only person left that still uses a blackout.

the amount of artists going over to fishman is starting to get scary
"AT FISHMAN WE ARE FISHING EVERYONE" - FISHMAN
Fishman taking over the world...
...1 badass guitarist at the time
Megat Yaesree DON’T TOUCH THAT FISH
great video, very informative on the pickup construction.
awesome tones.
a little less gain would make the demo much better
They are mostly higain pickups so I guess that's why they use so much gain...
I can attest that the Devin Townsend set are pretty damn good. It really does feel like I've got two different guitars in one.
You can tell this dude is personally motivated in progressing metal guitar tone, he pretty much made the maxon od808 famous years ago.
To switch from passive to active with a pull of a switch, impressive stuff from fishman
Matt the pickups are still active in both modes, the change is in the resonant peak, to a more "passive"-sounding response
thanks for clearing that up
that wilie adler set tho. very tempting if i can find them
Exactly. If you can find them. I can't.
i would like to hear more clean tone rather than high gain.
Yeah, but they are higain pickups...
CreamFreshCream Man, does Tosin Abasi playing dirty tone only? No.
Watch Abasi's demo

It's tuned to drop-D and down a quarter step, I love that
That's it. I'm getting the Killswitch ones for My Ibanez... Those are amazing.
I like the option of 3 voicings and making the 5 way sector switch split the pickups in the 2 and 4 positions
can you do a Rammstein Rig rundown? :)
Name drop guy!
The advantage of having the PR guy and the Demo guy being one and the same is very useful :) thinking about the KSE set. i never commited to active's because i didn't want to lose the warm neck, this might be the ticket.
Well i was wondering if i should mention that too, but a lot of times they do have signed musicians, but just lacking that connection
I have the original modern ones. I need those kse ones asap

Best pickups of the nowdays..i think
Did he just say "pummelise"?.......Hang on a minute
and with these new pickups, you barely need to tune you first two top strings... everything else seems to be optional I guess!
It pissed me off that the guy in the intro completely shat on ruin.
Think the guy demoing the guitars needs to use that clean channel.
I won't be hopping on this Fishman band wagon any time soon.
What a fan boy
Please tune. Please.
Isn't Ben Susi in Unearth?
H3R3T1C ken
They should sell it in much cheaper, too expensive
TUNER.........................
Not familiar with Ken?? Listen to Endless by Unearth. Not only is he a great player but a true showman as well.
Oh man I knew I recognized him, I just went and watched "Zombie Autopilot" again and...sure enough there he was. That's cool he works with Fishman now. It makes a lot more sense that he filled in with KSE now.
is Ken no longer with Unearth? I mean is this now his full time job lol
Alfian Banjaransari he still is just when ever they are not touring or they have some downtime he does this
I'll stick with alpha/omega for now. sounds great though.
terria 88 Best pickup set ever.
They all sound the same.

Am I the only one that thinks these don't sound very good?
