Today I’m checking out the Fishman Fluence Classic Humbuckers…again?! Seeing as I went pretty in-depth with my demo of the Fluence Modern Humbuckers, I saw this as an opportunity to get out as much as I could from the Fluence Classics before the Moderns stay in my guitar for good.

Hey friends! I've been getting a lot of requests for a wiring diagram that can replicate what I did for this demo. I finally got around to making one and you can download it here: drive.google.com/open?id=1Q1ik65HtAnn8AegQLN4T896-KQyOzjH2 Just note that it's not for official use!

How can I engage the tone function?
@@emilianocalvillo8527 Just wire it in! There are a lot of examples on how to do this on Fishman's website. I chose not to do it for this video to keep things simple and consistent.

Thank you for posting this! It’s so cool to see a review of the classic set this in depth and I the style of music that I actually play myself. I’ve been trying to decide between the Tosin Abasi signature set and the classics for a six string guitar. I love the sound of an alnico bridge pickup for metal rhythm sounds, but the split coil sounds on the Tosin set are just so good. I hadn’t really heard the split coil sounds from the classic set but they are lovely too.
Anyway ... glad I found your channel, thank you 🙂
Thank you for checking out my video! I plan on demoing the Tosin set in the future, I just need me some money!

Dude you should do a video combining some of these pickups i havent seen anyone do this. i currently have a modern in the bridge and a classic in the neck. i have it wired so my voice switch controls both pickups so what i like to do for some of my clean stuff is put the selector in the middle position and switch them both to voice 2. That modern passive voice just blends so damn well with voice two of the classic. Ive never had an electric guitar that i like to do strumming type licks on until i installed these pickups... i almost like the sound more than my acoustic guitar for some of that stuff.
What a neat idea! Maybe I'll try it someday!

Can you Know if is possible conect this pickups set in 18v??

Gerry,
Great video !, the best I have seen so far. One quick question mate, I bought 2 Fishman Fluence Classic pickups (neck and bridge) because of this video, however the Neck one says Rev 3.1 and the Bridge one says Rev 4.1
Do you know the Rev (version) of yours ?, just wondering to see if I can do the split coil function.
Thank you! I bought these Fishmans like yeeeeeaaaaarrs ago, so I'm guessing that the set that I have are an early version of them, but I'm not quite sure which one exactly. Either way, the newer revisions of Fishman Fluence pickups make it easier to achieve the single coil sounds (or Voice 3 as they like to call it). Check out this diagram! Hopefully it helps: www.fishman.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/08/Classic_Humbucker_Set_Rev45_2xVol_2xT_US_Toggle_Switch_9V.pdf

Excellent video! Really helped make my decision. Did you do the wiring yourself, if so how did you wire the Classic Pickups for coil tapping?
Thank you! And yes, I did the wiring myself. I finally got around to making a wiring diagram since I didn't make one when I first wired these. Just note that this isn't for official use. drive.google.com/open?id=1Q1ik65HtAnn8AegQLN4T896-KQyOzjH2
The guys at Fishman (I believe i spoke with a guy named mike?) are fantastic dude. i have never done any type of wiring before and had several questions they were happy to answer and even provided a custom wiring diagram for my specific needs. The best part is i didnt have to wait a month for a reply. Each time i emailed them i received a reply back in less than 6 hours

Def want to hear this same tune with the moderns to compare
A Fluence Moderns vs. Classics should be up on my channel in about a week or two, but this tune will most likely be on my upcoming solo album/EP and I plan on recording that song with the Fishman Fluence Modern pickups, so hopefully that fills your needs!
@@GerryTrevino Super awesome bro can't wait
Thank you for making these videos, they've helped so much with making a choice!
Also, I'm kind of confused as how you get so many options with the pickup selection? Normally theres only 5 options with a 5-way switch but you're getting 9 in total, do you mind sharing how you did that?
Hey, Ty! Thanks for taking the time to watch my video.
I've been asked this question before and unfortunately I don't have a master diagram that I used to make the wiring happen for this demo. Here's what I told another person about how I achieved this.
"I dug through Fishman's website and took bits and pieces of info from several diagrams in order to be able to switch between the two voices and coil tap sounds. However, here's a link to the digram from their website that demonstrates how to achieve the coil tap: www.fishman.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/04/fluence_humbucker_coil_tapping.pdf
Essentially, connecting the center taps (CT) to ground activates the inner coils and connecting the hots (H) to the center taps (CT) activates the outer coils.
So, what I did was to get the Outer Coil sounds, I wired a push/pull pot that would connect the CTs to the Hs. From that same pot, I wired jumpers that connected the CTs to a second Push/Pull Pot. When I pulled up on the second Push/Pull pot it connected the CTs to ground, thus giving me the Inner Coil sounds. *Note: If you pull up on both knobs, the circuit will short, thus giving you no output out of the guitar. Not dangerous, but I thought you should know!
To switch between the two voices, just solder the orange and green wires to a Push/Pull knob so when you pull on it, it connects them to ground.
I'm no expert on the Fluence pickups, but I hope that helps! Be sure to check out Fishman's website for various other types of diagrams. That's where I got all of my info from. www.fishman.com/products/series/fluence/"
Feel free to ask me any more questions!

Great video Man , I just instaled same Gold Classics in my Les Paul :)
I got one question . When I switch to single coil voice I hear some extra noise comparing to hummbucker voice ,when i play Hi Gain .
Is that normal ? Or I missed something in wirring diagram .....?
I ask because I dont hear some extra noise when you play on single coil voice ..
Thanks
Thank you for watching! Yeah, just by their very nature, single coil pickups will always introduce more noise than humbuckers will. Although I will say that Fishman reduce A LOT of the noise that traditional pickups omit. So yeah, kind of hard to dance around, but the noise that you're hearing is completely normal. I hope that helps!
@@GerryTrevino Thanks a Lot man :)

Awesome playing! I’m planning on getting the set myself, just wondering if it could be indtalled with a single push/pull volume. Any tips?
Thank you! Absolutely! You could do something like the push/pull volume knob switches between the two voices and the pickup selector switch and activate some of the single coil voices similar to how the Tosin Abasi set is typically wired. Hope that helps, consider checking out my EP! li.sten.to/TnIWX1e
Hey Gerry great video and content you provide. You really deserve alot more subscribers. I installed the classic Fishman set into an esp eclipse. Now I really believe I might have worked them wrong because they dont sound like your set. They sound a bit muddy. What wiring diagram did you follow while installing. I looked on there site and could not find the proper diagram for my classic set of humbucker. Thanks
Hey Bryan! Thank you for taking the time to watch my videos. It means a lot! Hmm, there's a couple of diagrams that you could use for your Fishman classics. Here's what I found from the Fishman website:
Fishman Fluence Classic Humbucker Pickups:
www.fishman.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/08/Classic_Humbucker_Set_Rev45_2xVol_2xT_US_Toggle_Switch_9V.pdf
Fishman Fluence Open Core Classic Humbucker Pickups:
www.fishman.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/04/Fluence_Classic_Open_Core_2xVol_2xT_US_Toggle_Switch_9V.pdf
However, to achieve all of the single coil sounds that I used in my demo, you'll have to do a little more wiring. Here's a wiring diagram I made that shows you how I did just that. Note, this isn't for official use and there's no tone knob circuit. This makes the output a bit brighter and clearer. This might help you with that muddiness issue!
drive.google.com/open?id=1Q1ik65HtAnn8AegQLN4T896-KQyOzjH2
Hope that helps!

Really nice review dude! Did you find more definition on these or the modern set?
Thank you! They're both really different. The moderns are definitely more articulate (better for single note runs) and the classics have a chaotic harmonic distortion thing going on (better for chords and such). I think it's because the moderns have blade magnets whereas the classics have traditional pole pieces. Both are excellent though! If you liked this, consider checking out my solo EP! li.sten.to/TnIWX1e
I like these better than the moderns in your other video. Have you tried them in standard tuning at all?
Yes! I used to play in a Pop Punk band and I used the Classics for Standard tuning and Drop D tuning all the time. These are perfect for that!
@@GerryTrevino thanks Gerry

I noticed the wiring diagram is for the modern pickups and the moderns have a few extra pins for the hook up wires .. does it make a difference ? Not really ?
That's for the Voice 1 Low Gain setting. In your Modern Fluence set, it comes with an extra cable to hook up to the other unused pins. This gets soldered to ground and it will reduce the output of Voice 1 by -6db. This is there if you think that the output is just a little too hot.
@@GerryTrevino alright thanks. So the diagram is for 3 push pull pots 1 volume, 2 tones ? And it works for either the modern or classics right ? Thanks
@@jayz6008 Yes, although the tone knobs don't really do anything. Based on the wiring diagram I made, the two push/pull knobs are only there to switch between the coil split sounds.
