  • I took the stock Fishman Fluence classic open core pickups out of my ESP LTD EC1000T CTM Violet Shadow and replaced them with the recently released Fluence Richard Z Kruspe Rammstein set. However, this didn't go as planned! Enjoy this review and pickup comparison! Let me know your thoughts! Cheers!

you got it for free so this upgrade totally makes sense for you but i would not spend such an amount of money for a sign and some minor tweaks but thats just how commercial signature marketing works apparently. great video thank you again 🖤

After a couple instances of having to modify a guitar for pickups, I invested in some small sharp chisels. Makes doing small route adjustments quick and easy and you can shave off fractions of a millimeter. You would never suspect that it didn’t come from the factory.

If I had a dollar for every time I had to forcefully make something work, I’d be able to afford to not have to forcefully make things work. Lololol good job taking control of the situation and getting results. I hope fishman takes note and maybe adjusts their pickup dimensions.

Pickups aside, that guitar is gorgeous ! Esp's aesthetically never grab me, but something about the silver accents and that burst really do it.

Awesome cleans also. Thinking my next guitar will have Fishmans of some kind.

I’ve taken a rotary tool to quite a few pickups in order to make the screw wings of the baseplate fit the guitar routing, as well as to shorten the pole screws sticking out of the bottom.

I think I prefer the classic open core ones, but that just me. I think they sound pretty close, the rz being a bit more modern. They sound great through your kit.
The fact the rz do not fit in standard routing is a no go for me. I think you did the right move modifying/sanding the pickups. If you are to sell the guitar you will get more value than if you had sanded pickup cavities. You can always put back the original pickups in. I hope fishman have the pickups casing dimensions somewhere on their site, they should have them. It is always a good idea to double check this before buying. Like emgs it seems they have diffrent sizes available.

had the same fitting issues when changing from fluence merrows in the schecter KM6 to duncans.
the duncan wes hauch humbucker was wayyyyy to big, so i decided to make it work with a Nazgul.
i didnt want to modify the guitar body as well, so i grinded away on the nazgul, even losing the ground wire solder on it.
but i managed to get everything into place, a bit to snug for my comfort, as resonance in the guitar really easily conducts into the pickups making the guitar prone to feedbacking haha.
on the neck position i was lucky enough to get my hands on an OEM dimarzio john petrucci model, that have the same dimensions as the fluence open core, so no work was needed to be done there.

Also I wish they would make triangle tabs on all these pickups. I’ve clipped the bulky square tabs on most of my pickups to fit them in the direction mount holes in my Ibanez guitars

I’m about to do this exact upgrade on my E2 Eclipse, but I think I’m going for the Open Core Moderns. The Open Core classics sound amazing. But I need something heavier for my style right now. The Open Core classics have amazing sustain and the notes just ring out forever. They might be the best pick ups I’ve ever played, but I do want something heavier.

Has anybody done anything like that? All the time! 😁I've re-soldered 5 guitars. Most common problem - ponentiometers. They often don't fit holes. Had to do hole bigger on PRS S2 and Mayones. And stock potentiometer knob does not fit😁Also Mayones has frameless mount with M2.5 bolts and that does not work with major part of pickups. Stock EMGs have drilled holes to fit M2.5 bolts. You have to drill bigger pickup mount holes. And this is not what you want to do if you plan swap the pickups. But DIY solution comes to help here: just solder regular bolt nut to pickup mount ear. Works like a charm.
First time see that pickup does not fit. I have resoldered PRS pickups to classic zebra open core on PRS and was able to swap modern as well.
But, at the end, all that DIY stuff when things are not fitting together rewards you with some degree of freedom. Now pickup swap between EMGs and all sorts of Fishman - easy cake.
Few weeks of swaps and listening and you got perfect matches. Well, gold Adler pickups and Jackson Skullyard looks weird😁 but that's best pair of pickups for that guitar for me.
Fishman Classic zebras on brown PRS look stunning and sound good.
White moderns on BC Rich warbeast also look stunning, and so far, best match for that guitar.

Guitar looks so much better with covered pickups. Besides the troubles with dimensions, you didn't had any trouble with the wiring, considering Krupse model is more based around the Modern Fluence ?

great to have them in a new guitar but as a replacement it will cost you a whooping 370€, heavy price increase over the standard just for his sign as it always happen with overpriced signature stuff.. i think i pass on this one, thanks man & peace ✌🎸

I like the versatility of the Fishmans compared to standard humbuckers without different voicings/coil splitting. but, to be honest, somewhere in the back of my mind I hear Glen Fricker from SMG screaming "bumping the microphone, that is recording the cab, will affect the sound more than a pickup change" and I totally get what he's saying.

Not really a fan of direct mount pickups. Can look nice, but I also don’t mind the look of rings and appreciate their simplicity and adjustability. With that said, as a solution, I’d probably go ahead and rout it out and use mounting rings.

    • @RyRyTheBassGuy
      @RyRyTheBassGuy 6 месяцев назад

Yeah, rings would be the thing to do in this situation. Since you can only enlarge the neck cavity towards the bridge, it would look bad having bigger cutouts for the mounting tabs exposed.

Interesting how passive voicing on RZK compares to Adler set passive voicing. RZK seems to have pretty good passive voicing, not modern standard one. At the same time, it has Modern active voicing which I prefer on my amps over Modern passive voicings. Looks like RZK took best voices from Modern and Adler set.

Looking from the standpoint of mechanical engineering, the Guitar industry is stuck in the 50s - Which is no wonder regarding historical correct Guitars but when you look at modern Guitars it is a shame that even simple things like the pickup screws are not standardized and are chosen seemingly arbitrary... The switch to the metric system is absolutely overdue in my opinion.

To be honest, I was surprised that you, with obviously a lot of experience with musical equipment, still didn’t know that on guitars without mounting rings, the dimensions of the cavities are usually precisely adjusted to the sizes of the installed humbuckers and you cannot easily change uncovered pickups to covered ones. :)
