Rammstein sounds are untouchable. Richard and Paul have great chemistry. The guitar sound of the album "Sehnsucht" is just breathtaking even after more than 2 decades! Cool video! :)
in general I love the sound of blended tube and solid state distortion better than either one separately. No wonder I love Rammstein's overall vibe and tone so much.
Dude!! They are the reason I started playing drums and been playing 18 plus years and going. As a beginner guitarist this was just too cool to hear and watch. Definitely will check this out! Definitely one of my top fives in bands for sure !
That clean tone is perfect! I have been trying to dial in a really good clean tone on my quad cortex and I think getting the compression right is the key. Trying to go for that full sounding clean you have here where it doesn't really drop off. Absolutely love rammstein
I like the simplicity that pedal has for gigs. Just take it on a back pack and you are set. Specially as a... fly rig... Also, you can bring 2 and have a backup just in case!
Richie Kotzen also has a version, they're very cool! Probably the only thing I "dislike" is that there's no preset functionality. The Nux Cerberus is a similar type of analog + digital pedal which has both stomp mode and preset modes, also a built-in IR loader. These pedals are really cool for your rehearsals or maybe a small rig somewhere in the house.
I got the fly rig V2 recently and im really, really happy with it. The delay and reverb sounds are ace, the boost is perfect and the XLR out means this is all I need to take to gigs.
I feed my guitar through a noise gate and then to an aby pedal, on one channel I’ve got the fly rig pl1 and on the other the amt R2 which goes to the mooer radar. The pl1 packs warm and round tones while the R2 is pure rawness. These 2 together put out a pretty badass sound. +1 for the pl1!
It's really refreshing to see a solid state amp simulation that does its own thing. The market is pretty saturated with simulations of vintage kit, which is fine if that's what you're after, but its nice to see some innovation in tone!
surprising little box, very interesting, I always liked the sansamp gt2, used to record with it a few years ago, I was not aware of this one , I like it and there is nothing wrong in not replicating a tube amp and being its own thing/sound. Very cool rig to me.
Sounded really good, but it's a major oversight to be unable to turn off the cab sim. Running the xlr to a sound desk and the 1/4 inch out to the fx return of an amp would be really useful.
I never comment on You Tube ….however watched this Video clip loads, great for me - as a novice, tip top guitar work, engaging and really enjoyed this [whoever this guy is, great work].
This is a great unit, that said I think the Ritchie Kotzen model might be more up your alley. And yeah, I really wish the internal cab sim could be disabled as well, but that's Sansamp. 🤷♂️
This is one of the better reviews on this awesome piece from Tech 21. When it got released I was in the market for a high gain practice amp with a headphone out that I can play at home all times of day. However I didn’t really want a digital emulation and wanted as close to analog signal as possible and something made by a reliable/reputable company. Checked out Tech 21s site and low and behold, there was the PL-1 it checked off every box and with limited reviews and videos at the time I went for it. Instantly great tone and it sounds massive through studio headphones or direct through monitors. The ambiance feature set properly sounds like a double tracked guitar and you don’t feel like your playing in headphones at all for late night sessions. The extra features like the tuner, delay and boost/mid scoop or punch functions are all amazing additions. The only thing I wish it had was an FX loop! However I can do without it. I play hardcore, metal, jazz, post-metal, doom and alternative rock styles through this no problem. Someone said pickups act different with it and I find that to be true. I personally like one of my ESP LTD models the K-500 which has a HZ4 through it. Seems to be a great match.
i really like the tone of the pedal. but when you double track it, it gets nice and warm and three dimensional. maybe a double track effect after unit would be nice for live use. i'm considering the captor X to run my boogie through for live use and can't wait to try their double track idea subtly. but, till bands can play live again in our lock downed country, Australia, i'll not be going there. loved the clean tones especially for the modern rock cleans.
I got this Fly Rig after watching your videos on it, absolutely love it. I’m having a very difficult time editing my tracks on this though, as the transients almost unidentifiable. Is there any way to get the DI signal with the track???? Please let me know
I find this pedal to ve extremely sensitive to the pickup you use. I for instance use a JB SH4 with it and it sounds terrible. But with Ibanez Quantum pickups it sounds marvelous.
@@karelg123 just the stock pickups from the rgrt421 into the PL1 and the to the audio interface. The pedal is awesome although I sold it and got a sansamp gt2. Can definetely tell the pl1 is based on the gt2, and they both sound way better with the quantum pickups.
@@SonicDriveStudio I know this is an old comment but I tried a Sansamp PSA2 with an impulse and you were right, these don't work really well with IRs. They definitely sound better with the Sansamp cab sim, but I still don't like that analog cab sim sound lol. But it was sstill better than an IR which came out a super thin and harsh no matter how much I dialed it in. A shame.
Mooie informatieve video!
I thought about getting one of these, but then I read an interview where Paul was specifically asked if he would use this and he said no, he was still using the GT2. Those are cheaper anyway, so I got one of those instead, and I hate it! If I hate my GT2, will I also hate this?
Yes this works but you get even better sounds when you use the PL1 as a preamp into the FX return. Otherwise you have 2 EQ sections connected in series (amp & PL1) and here less is more. J
How do you get the guitar to sound so clean? I have one of these and have been messing around with it for about a year or two now. I just can’t get a good tone at all from it. I have PL-1 going through an XLR into a Scarlett FocusRite 2i2 into GarageBand. Is it my DAW that’s getting me the shitty tone? I don’t have any settings super high. Any input would be helpful! Or did I just get a Lemon lol? I’m thinking about calling Tech 21 and seeing if they have any input as well lol
You running reference monitors on the Focusrite or DO from the workstation? Most Headphones and internal speakers it’ll sound wank, also look at what you got going on settings wise. When I run my DOD FX98 DI into GB it sounded wank, so SM58’d a 1982 Carlsbro Cobra 90 SSA and now it sounds Epic lol
I’m a big Rammstein fan and it sounds cool, but honestly there are probably a thousand ways to get a similar tone. Seems like twenty or even ten years ago, everyone wanted warm EQ and a soft dynamic response that was most easily produced by a tube amplifier. Gear companies responded by coming up with lots of ways to make inexpensive and reliable solid state amps sound like tube amps. But this tone is more hard and abrasive. Almost any amp would do the job. And I really don’t care for the preamp in a pedal idea as a practical matter.
When it comes to the distorted tones, sure, you could also get a Sansamp like the GT2. However it's not just about that. There's also a clean channel, each channel has voicing options like the bite switch, you have a solo boost, a tuner and the effects. It's about the whole package
