Rammstein is one of my top rock/metal three bands. They are one of the few bands I play covers of. Richard and Paul are probably some of the guitarists I "get" most. They are talented but typically their guitar parts are simple and fitting for the song, which you don't always find nowadays; a lot of their songs only have two or three distinct guitar parts. I'm glad you did this!
@@baronhelmut2701 exactly, as EVH said, play lead whike playing rhythm: EVH, T-Ride (Eric Valentine), Nuno Bettencourt, Vito Bratta, Jake E. Lee, Kevin Cadogan...
@@EDEN-LIMINAL well look at the more modern guitarists. Mick Gorden … cant believe im saying this: Tim Henson. Or friggin Steven Vai bro. The dude straight up doesn’t need to play rythm … it just happens along the way.
Very nice indeed! I was able to see Rammstein in Philly recently and their live tone nearly buried me. The sheer girth and power of it...it was epic. I cannot see myself investing in that Mesa rig at this point, but the PL-1 sounds like a great piece for the home-recording toolkit, and a bargain at that. Killer jam you worked up here. Bravo!
Paul’s and Richard’s sounds complement each other perfectly. I doubt they even landed on this format intentionally…each seem to have their own preferences. But that ultra-present, aggressive solid state sound and the big, thick dual rec work perfectly together.
It sounds really good. I was surprised to see how obviously different they were when you jumped back and forth. I purposely wasn't looking at the screen so my ears wouldn't be affected by my eyes. It just jumped out. But that blended sound is just so good, they complement each other for such a full sound. Well done.
Greetings from Russia! Thanks for the video! I've done a lot of articles about the Rammstein guitar sound. It's funny, but you're the first one who made the most correct video on this topic. Microphones and the number of guitar recording layers are very important in the Rammstein sound. Usually, they are used 8-12 in a record.
Great video ! you definitely manage to capture the core tones every time ! Please make some Adam Jones from TOOL tone video. Spoiler: seymour duncan JB into a VH4 AND a dual rectifier into 4x12 OS mesa cab.
Great video again Jon… Rammstein is definitely one of my favorite bands, and especially live sounding bands, saw them live for the first time in 2004 in Ahoy Rotterdam, and I was a 13 year old kid who JUST started playing guitar that year, and that freaking sound blew me the hell away… that also started my love for the Rectifier sound. And also the last performance I saw by them in 2019 again Rotterdam, was one of the best sounding concerts I’ve ever been to, can’t wait to see them again this year =P
Paul doesn't use the FlyRig on stage. What he meant by that is that he also used it live (i guess during soundcheck and stuff) to try it out. Rammstein's equipment (mostly digital now) is fully automated via a logic-session. Including patch changes, fireworks, lights, playbacks / samples etc.
Great video ! Totally nailed their tones! Like many mentioned they compliment each other very well. I also enjoy doing this blend for Rammstein covers using the Recto 1 red or even soldano models from the Axe Fx 3 with YA IR’s.
It was pretty cool and close, really Rammstein like and I heard Richard used modded Rectifier Rev F, you can get this sound by boosting Rectifier with TS9 Tubescreamer pedal.
Really nice analysis! Great video I sometimes also use the ENGL Fireball 100 Emulation of Helix together with the OH ENGL v30s Cab Sims. Also a very Rammsteiny sound! It has a certain heavy bottom end, as well as the juiciness that I love. Also great with a Rectifier in a dual chain setup :)
Excellent video! Rammstein's sound has been changing over the years but the sound you have shown is identical to the last album The most difficult to imitate in my opinion is the one from the mutter album where Richard said that he made up to 25 guitar layers to have a more punchy and thick sound. Greetings from Chile.
I recall Reznor user pedals (distortion, probably a sansamp too) direct to desk and turbosynth a lot...then process it further...gain staging is the key.
These sound like modern Rammstein. But so far nobody has been able to come up with their true old school 90’s sound, that tone was a German bestial machine.
In the early days, to get that unique sound, Richard and Paul would record the same song for like 10 to 20 times and put them together to get to that famous result. Richard, f.e., used a Mesa Boogie Mark II C+ and a ESP 901. The rest of his studio equipment from that era is (almost) totally unknown to the public.
Damn it, that sounded amazing! Rammstein would definitely benefit from your writing … the melody part gave me instant goosebumps! 🥰 But other than the writing, the sounds were just amazing!!
The Tech21 stuff is made to sound like a tube amp, as the SansAmp circuitry Tech 21 have created is a tube emulation (and cabinet emulation). Even if the pedal doesn't have tube in it
Sounds killer is it possible we could ever see a sounds like rammstein done on a helix I’ve seen a few really good tones but i personally think you would and could nail it on the head big time since the rectifier in the helix is a little bit hard to work with in my opinon I honestly think you could do an amazing job with a rammstein helix tone
Amazing video! Thank you! I have a question. You said that recording-wise you quad-tracked the guitars. Did you put both Tech21 tracks hard left and the two Mesas to the right or did you put the Tech and Mesa on top of each other to both sides?
This is exactly what I was looking for!!!!!!! Industrial guitar sounds from the 90’s. I have a Carvin V3 I can get close to the Mesa with, other than a FlyRig is there a pedal that would get close? I have a Tech 21 XXL (Black/White v2). It’s what Page Hamilton used before his signature ProTone pedal now. Awesome video btw.
Line 6 Helix doesn't work for Rammstein sound. As they VST sims of 3 chan. Dual or Triple Rectifier don't get any close to Rammstein tone. Richard plays Revision C 1992 Dual Recto 2 channel. A similar Rev F will do too.
@@david37485, you can check Fkuff's pack of amp Sims and STL tones too. There are some great Sans sims too. The mics however as in the tonal blend and in the mix are the tricky ones.

The first time that somebody has worked out this sound properly. THANKS! Also these short demos sound better than the last album and the last single. Rammstein's guitar sound is unique, but what is often forgotten is that the drums are even more important. Unfortunately, these have also become significantly worse in the last two LPs.
RAMMSTEIN! Who loves them? What's your favorite Rammstein album and guitar tone? Also, what did you think of my tones? Danke! :)
I love 'em! Mutter is still my favorite album in terms of songs and tones. I'd say your tone was pretty close!

This was pretty freaking good. The mesa sound reminds me a lot of the first Emigrate record.
Could it be because Kruspe just happened to use a Mesa?
Kruspe uses a Mesa even exactly this one up until recently, when he switched to the Triple Rectifier.
