Andy.....Mr. Timmons, that's an exceptionally well put together and tasteful movement....you have my Deepest Respect....I asked Tim to thank you next time you talked,...please allow me to thank you personally....I have enjoyed your work for years...Best Wishes...
Andy! Been a fan of yours for years and when I first heard that piece you did on TPS that Tim talks about in this video I was floored, and pretty much had the same reaction as Dan, and instantly had to pause and rewind that part until I had it learned. It's the best "lullaby" guitar music I've ever heard. My family loves it.
When I was 16 (54 now) Andy was at the University of Miami and he was my guitar teacher and helped me get into Berklee College of Music. Even way back then the chops, musicality, touch, passion, humility, THE EVERYTHING- was a revelation. It was so impressive I have tried and wanted to emulate that ever since and he defined it. So thankful for that time, and love the pedal.
What a cool experience to study with him there in Coral Gables - A great jazz program to study in. When I auditioned in 84' on Bass they did everything they could to help people get into their Masters in Jazz Performance.
Not only is Andy Timmons a great guitarist, but he's also a great person. I reached out to him to thank him for a backing track he produced and he immediately replied to me. Such a nice guy. So humble to be such a great talent. Like another we all know. :) 🏆
Love the fretboard view while Andy was playing. Your reactions are priceless, and honestly your tone and the emotion in your playing during your breakdown/teaching us the song... moved me more than the original.
@@timpierceguitar I agree with Craiger on the fretboard view! Even I could follow that lol! Are these fretboard views on your masterclass videos as well?
That B section (1:47) is basically just the ending of 'No Other Love' by Jo Stafford. The part that goes "...let no other love know the wonder of your spell." And that makes perfect sense, since Andy has reportedly called this song his tribute to Chopin, and Chopin is the one who wrote the piece that 'No Other Love' was based on - Étude No. 3 in E, Op. 10. I think that's partly why it feels like this song was just "always there" (0:29). Granted, Andy adds a lot of his own tasty bits to it! Cheers.
Wow, love the real time guitar view! Great to actually see what’s being played. Amazing pedal too. And wow, when you’re so good at guitar you make people cry, that’s amazing
@@timpierceguitar Great demo Tim! I imagine that on this clip the pedal is plugged into the effects loop. Is it also effective ‘in front of the amp’? Thanks a lot Eric
Andy's music has always had a "feel" quality to it that is unmatched in its' uniqueness, IMHO. And kudos to you, Tim, for recognizing him: I love how you remain in awe of great players, even though you are one of them, as well.
I never once forgot how good Andy is, and what an influence he is to me and so many others. But, this piece of music on TPS was the stake in the ground to remind me “Oh yeh, that’s why I love the guy” I must’ve rewatched this entire episode half a dozen times, and that specific clip north of 30. Hauntingly beautiful.
Well, I have a TC Flashback 2. And I made that wonderfull Andy Timmons double delay preset myself. Delay 1 at 500ms, delay 2 at 375 ms. By mapping both delay times under the "Delay" knob in a clever way, you can change both delay times while remaining that magic ratio of 500:375!
Andy always credits seeing Jeff Beck live as a major inflection point in his music career. Not surprising that some of Jeff’s style comes through. What a player!
I got to see him live for the first time last November just before he passed. I'm so glad I went to that show and even at 78 years old he put on an incredible show and never missed a single note.
I’ve heard his name many times over the years, and come across ‘his’ pedal everywhere. I’ve meant to check him out for a long time now, but for some reason have not gotten around to it yet. I’m a fairly regular viewer of TPS also, but haven’t seen the episode mentioned here. Guess what suddenly became the next video on my watchlist today! Man, I get why his name is everywhere now, and I will DEFINATLY check out his channel and of course his music now! Also, thank you so much Tim for sharing this with us! Love your channel and your amazing work! Shout out to my two other favourites over at TPS, and to Mr.Timmons who I’m shure will also find his way in to my favourites quite rapidly! ❤
I was zoned in to that BEAUTIFUL melody - i too, was in tears by the time AT finished... just incredible - nothing like a emotionally-moving melody. Great job in breaking it down, TP!!!!
I bought a Kemper stage and sold all my pedals (but not my tube amps), going all in about three years ago. I Love, Love, Love the Kemper. The Halo is the first pedal since that's peaked my interest. Now I'm thinking of building a small board with a couple of boost/OD pedals, a Styrmon Iridium and a Halo ;) Andy has been one of my tip top favorite players for decades, and he keeps getting better.
It seems like Andy is one of those overlooked giants. I’ve listened to him since Danger Danger but when I mention him to others I get blank stares. Thanks for covering this.
I just bought the Halo pedal! I found the clip Tim is referring to last week and was just blown away by both Andy's playing and the sound that pedal makes. So awesome to see Tim break that bit down, too.
Beautiful video, Tim! Andy Timmons plays guitar with inimitable elegance and eloquence. He always seems to know what to say, when to say to it and how to say it. His tone is always perfect for his compositions which adds much to the listening experience. You don't listen to his playing with only your ears. When he wants to capture all of you, he can and does. Does Andy play the music or does the music play through Andy? His music is a gift for us all.
I watched and met Andy a couple different times, his tonality and feel are unmatched, and he is a very humble person as well. Check out his Sargeant Pepper album re-creation.
Tim, I've been watching your channel for quite some time, You always bring the best of guitarists and their techniques to your videos. Man Andy can make tears drop, that's truly one of the best heart wrenching guitar melodies I've heard in a long time! Thank You both!
Got goosebumps from your description of Timmons' piece - that's exactly how I've always described Jim Keltner's drum parts - like a musician would unearth some timeless naturally occurring formation, and built a song around it. (granted, "timeless" may not be the best adjective for a drummer... ). All that to say, I know what you mean, and it was a great piece of music. And great pedal. And great video, thanks!
It's one of the most, if not - the most, emotional playing and beautiful musical genius... ever played by Andy, and wonderfully explained and demonstrated by Tim - Ever! Thank you Guys... Music, great music, is an Experience... Yes it is!
WOW!!! Seeing Dan moved to tears to the point of having to leave put me over the edge too. That's was a beautiful piece. It would not have surprised me in the least to know that Andy pulled that out of his hat right as the tape was rolling. Very nice tutorial Tim.
Just heartbreakingly beautiful. Incredible. Makes me happy I've devoted nearly all my life to learning this beautiful instrument of expression - and have so much more to learn!
I got this pedal not to recreate anyone…but just to help me create. I am not a great guitar player even though I’ve been playing for over 40 years. What this did was unlock my sonic creativity. Of the 20+ delay pedals I’ve owned over the years…this is the first one that opened my heart and has lead me to build amazing guitar parts. Love it!
Thank you for posting again. I thought I lost my mind when it disappeared on Sunday. When it's good stuff please don't post and take down anymore🙂. This is awesome
Great video Tim! Andy is such a gift. I’ve been fortunate to have met him a couple times at NAMM, and he’s always so gracious and kind. I saw him perform Ave Maria live back in 2020 and I cried too.
Bought it as soon as I heard it from Keeley site. Use every gig and extremely versatile once you get your head around it. Thanks Tim always great and as always, JD
Very beautiful. I'm hearing bits of Moon River - the "up around the bend" bit. He did well not to get dragged into just repeating that, but took it in different directions.
5 Stars! 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟 I nabbed a Halo as soon as it was avaliable. This Timmons performance about made me cry too... because I saw it when they first released the video!
This piece is one of those elegant whispers from the cosmos that remind me why I ever attempted to be more than a complete hack on the guitar in the first place. As much as it’s Andy’s work, the phrasing and spacing also evokes David Gilmour for me. I can understand why the TPS guys were crying. ❤
Andy’s humanity, humility , and kindness bleed through his playing. The way he consoles Dan ! Man that is the greatest fucking thing I’ve ever seen on TPS. ❤
Tim, I agree with you 100%. Andy performs excellent note placement along with an absolutely beautiful melody that creates a warm, and sentimental feeling. His rendition reminds me of Mark Loeffler from Dire Straits song "Fade To Black". Haunting and beautiful at the same time!! Excellent!!
andy timmons , to me, since he went solo, has always seemed the perfect successor to JB. that said... "oh the sun was in their eyes"... the first part you said you loved... i just happened to be listening to 'theme for an imaginary western' earlier...yeah...i'm old...but profound is profound.
Very nice from all concerned, particularly the man who had to leave the room and compose himself. Creative music generously received and appreciated by a great and fatherly maestro, whose impulse is to hand it on. When your musical instinct is to create and share, and to lift everyone, whether writer, player, student or innocent bystander... then we're in a good place. All hail Tim and Andy - these are the good guys, and they're not alone. Most real, genuine musicians are aware of the elevating effects of music - that's what they get from it, and that's what they want us all to experience, and to have in our lives.
Wow, that was a piece of music truly worthy of being called a composition. Bravo Mr. Timmons. Also, lovely pedal and your rendition of the Hysteria clean guitar part was really nice to hear using it, Tim. I’ve always loved that riff - I remember learning it at 14 and thinking it was dreamy.
We all know the perfect tone doesn't exist and we all know that Andy Timmons has it. He did a video on the BB Preamp a couple years ago titled '2017 Limited Edition Andy Timmons Signature BBP-AT by Xotic Effects'. I think the way he plays and noodles in that video is some of the most beautiful and inspiring playing I have heard in my entire life. I understand the tears in that Halo vid, this man has the magic touch.
Andy is just at that top level I aspire to. He’s so versatile: he can move quickly, he can be bluesy, but he’s always melodic and tasteful. In my mind Andy is cut from the same cloth as Joe Satriani, Robben Ford, Jeff Beck, and more, all while having his own voice. What a beautiful piece of music!
There are many words to describe what I just heard! Beautiful, sublime, amazing, intuitive yet surprising! A sonic journey, of the perfect chord progression , climbing, and descending! a work of art! THANK YOU!
Check out the opening phrase of Willie Nelson's solo in Pancho and Lefty. It's very much the same as the major penta leaving out the 6. This is a wonderful lesson! I hope I get to meet you someday Tim!
Tim I remember watching Andy's spontaneous song on that pedal show and caught the first broadcast of it. I completely understand Dan's reaction. I don't feel Andy Timmon's gets his due accolades as a virtuoso incredible guitarist. No one can copy his energy and style of playing. The Halo truly makes that type of playing even more expressive. Thanks for bringing memory back.
Andy is one of the best out there and it’s great to see Tim recognize him. I got to treat my youngest daughter to one of his performances at the iridium in New York City three or four years ago and she loved it!
I’ve head this pedal for a while now. It has replaced pretty much all of my delay, pedals and some of my reverbs as well. Love Anys sound and would highly recommend this pedal
Andy has been a massive influence on me, I love his tone and his phrasing is like no other...I've been using the Mesa Lonestar ever since I discovered him years ago.
"What goes around, turns around" some one from the 60's would easily say Andy Timmons is inspired by Hank Mavin and The Shadows....Absolutely beautiful sound and master of skills, the ability to stir the emotions of the Pedal Show guys - what more can you say. Tim I love your channel, cheers Stewart
When Andy starts to play I get choked up. When he hits that spot at the 1:00 minute mark, I start to cry. Every. Freaking. Time. It’s glorious. Your description of him discovering that piece was perfect. So simple but so beautiful. ❤ I want to become a decent guitar player so I can go back to Guitar Sanctuary and plug in Andy’s signature Ibanez and that incredible pedal (and be able to justify taking them home). 😂
Wow Tim Pierce! Very cool of you to demonstrate what you liked about Andy Timmons, the effects (pedal) and your breakdown of the tune performed along with the sample for the pedal. Love the fretboard view - Killer! Andy is my favorite guitar Virtuoso. His harmonies, tone and applied techniques are combined to bring a soundscape uniquely Timmons. Like many Timmons compositions very moving. Many thanks!
I like to think I was the originator of this quote because I've said it so much, but I'm sure I'm not. "Andy Timmons bleeds melody." It's such a gift he has to take melodies to places we can only dream of.
That show was incredible. It really stuck in my mind. The pedal is destined to be one of the best, and he talked about how he developed it. The local music store sells quite a few of them. He is such an asset to the guitar world. Nobody like him. BTW, your studio looks awesome. Great episode.
After all of these years, Tim, I just noticed that "we' all have the same wedding band. Just 1 more great thing to know. Thank you again for this and all you do - and for all the music I have loved!
Tim, Andy was turning you into Beato there for a minute!! Beautiful sound and playing, yes, Andy T one of the most soulful dudes out there. With and without pedals.
The three kings of tone are Eric Johnson, Andy Wood, and Andy Timmons. The trifecta centerpiece of my pedalboard is a combination of Andy Wood’s Wampler Gearbox dual OD and Suhr Woodshed compressor and Andy Timmon’s Keeley Halo. Each one is the best in its class by my ear. Seriously, everyone check out the Gearbox…I have two of them.
Andy does that to me too. Only person to be able to pull tears from me with totally unfamiliar music, zero nostalgic attachment. Pure unadulterated emotion perfectly conveyed.
Great Cover Tim. ! I Am A Christian And A Guitarist and have followed and admired Phil Keaggy for Decades! That Piece By Andy Is Melodically Beautiful!!! I love your Humility and " Sportsmanship" As a Musician To be honest and Honor another's piece Of Work! I listen to Pedal Reviews on My P.C. at Work and just listened to the " HALO " review By Mike Hermans who also does great work! I have the Keeley CAVERNS! Another great pedal!! Thank you Again.
This is what and why playing guitar is all about! The Timmons performance was amazing! I also love That Pedal Show! I have to admit I did laugh when I saw Dan start to cry. I wasn't laughing at Dan. I was laughing with happiness. Being a musician is awesome when you can move a person emotionally with the sounds a player can create with not just guitar but any instrument! Great video! The world needs more live players and LESS COMPUTERS
This reminds me a bit of what I love about Bill Frisell’s playing. Considering Andy and Bill are two of my all time favorite players I absolutely love this
You tube is so great. Ive never been an Andy Timmons fan, but that piece was incredible. Never would I have gone out of my way to find one of his vids.
That was a GREAT episode! I had not seen the "That Pedal Show" episode with Andy and I too was moved with his performance, but was so beautiful! Thank you for breaking it down for us, now I have to go work on playing that!!!
Great video & showcases Andy Timmons' magic perfectly.....I'm "all in" to his creativity and a big fan all over again!!! INCREDIBLE pedal and the AT Halo setting is way more present playing with it vs. demos in youtube videos...I'm guessing it may be the compression in producing the videos. I use it mono and it is incredible. It is magic for some rockabilly slapback or adding rich "doubling" texture on both tape and analog for soloing. For what it delivers vs. the offerings from some of the most popular delay machines on the market, it is actually a bargain at the current price. I have the red one!!!
The guitar playing in this video is epic and terrifying. I'll admit that I bought the Keeley ECCOS instead. A very similar delay pedal to the HALO. I really like it a lot. It has amazing sounds. My other Keeley pedal is a Bubbletron. It's really cool too but the ECCOS sounds more "Hi-Fi" to me. I'll bet that HALO hits that mark too. The fancy new chips make a diff. Bless ya Tim, always with the straight trip, no bs.
Great performances, both. The first has such nice feel. The second shred one is amazing too. Those bends at 4:20 for example. The first performance reminded me a lot of Marty Friedman Lovesorrow. Not quite the same but some parts have similar touch and feel.
So glad you did this! When I saw that TPS video and was floored by how beautiful that song was. I searched for the track and couldn't find it. Thanks for teaching it! (And thanks Andy for writing it)
Thank you sir. Not much of a player myself, but you deconstruct so much of what I am interested in. The mind process that great talents are able to put into their fingers that coax metal strings into music that worms its way into our minds and will not let go.
@timpierceguitar thanks very much Mr Tim Pierce for highlighting Andy Timmons 'Here Lies the Heart' and mastefully explaining it with such a musical sensibility, thanks so very much

Also, lovely pedal and your rendition of the Hysteria clean guitar part was really nice to hear using it, Tim. I’ve always loved that riff - I remember learning it at 14 and thinking it was dreamy.
Glad you enjoyed it!
AT totally top of the heap, such tastefulness, range and impeccable playing. Thanks for bring more attention to a truly amazing musician.
Thank you too!
Absolutely beautiful. That subtle expression on the tremolo is exquisite.
So gorgeous. Andy's compositions are genius.
Beautiful Tones. Great write by Timmons.
Great episode.
great video Tim, such a joy to see how much you loved Andy's insanely emotional playing.......Awesome mate!
Andy Timmons just blew me away. What a phenomenal player and an even more impressive composer.
After all of these years, Tim, I just noticed that "we' all have the same wedding band. Just 1 more great thing to know. Thank you again for this and all you do - and for all the music I have loved!
Made me cry, too! Total tribute to Beck.
Goodlord that was beautiful. That solo is one of the most musical passages I've heard in a longtime. Thanks Tim/Andy....
Andy Timmons is crazy beautiful musically. Plays with real soul 🤟
This reminds me a bit of what I love about Bill Frisell’s playing. Considering Andy and Bill are two of my all time favorite players I absolutely love this
Andy Timmons has such great note selection and phrasing, and killer tone!
You tube is so great. Ive never been an Andy Timmons fan, but that piece was incredible. Never would I have gone out of my way to find one of his vids.
That was an awesome thing Andy played. Reminds me a lot of the things Devin Townsend plays that move me the most.
I love that you dropped some Hysteria in there! Absolutely perfect for that preset
Wow..!! Tim ..!!! That real-time fretboard diagram is genius
'CRY FOR YOU'...LIVE...BEST EMO
GUITAR PERFORMANCE I'VE EVER HEARD!
EVERY NOTE IS AUTOGRAPHED WITH
GORGEOUS NUANCE.
Oh man that is truly astonishing, Andy Timmons is definitely wearing a halo 🙏 and also hats off to Tim as always...🎸🧛
Dan crying to that beautiful piece of music, shows you, if it was ever needed, the power of music. 👏
Great performances, both. The first has such nice feel. The second shred one is amazing too. Those bends at 4:20 for example.
The first performance reminded me a lot of Marty Friedman Lovesorrow. Not quite the same but some parts have similar touch and feel.
I love Andy and seems like just an all around great guy. With this, I bought the HALO the day I saw Andy Demo it with Robert on his channel.
It was awesome when I saw it on That Pedal Show, and it's awesome that you broke it down for us. Thank-you!
Simply wonderful... I love these sounds. Andy is a "true guitar player", and his own man.... and Tim you too are very verygood .
@timpierceguitar thanks very much Mr Tim Pierce for highlighting Andy Timmons 'Here Lies the Heart' and mastefully explaining it with such a musical sensibility, thanks so very much
One of the most beautiful guitar passages ever written,,, love it!
